  Using an NSPredicate for an array is rather straight forward using filteredArrayUsingPredicate:. How is this done for key-path values? Meaning, I have an array of objects (in this case, the objects are of the same type). The objects each have an instance variable called name. As per the documentation, it says to do the following: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat: @"ANY employees.firstName like 'Matthew'"]; Is that -also- used in filteredArrayUsingPredicate? • How can I bind a winforms Opacity to a TrackBar (slider)

  I've got a winform with a BindingSource that has an int property named Opacity in its DataSource. I also have a TrackBar on the winform that I want to use to control the Opacity of the winform. I've bound the Value property on the TrackBar to the Opacity and that functions just fine, sliding the TrackBar will change the variable from TrackBar.Minimum (0) to TrackBar.Maximum (1). I've also bound the Opacity property of the winform to this value, however, since the TrackBar's values only go from Minimum to Maximum in +/-1 rather than +/- .1 or so (like Opacity does), it doesn't properly fade the winform. Instead, 0 will turn it opaque and 1 will turn it fully visible. I need a way to work within the architecture described above, but get the TrackBar to change its value from 0 to 1 in defined increments smaller than 1.

• Can't detect wireless networks, running ubuntu 9.10 on eeepc 1000he

  Hi, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on an ASUS eeepc 1000HE, and my wireless card, RaLink RT 2860, is failing to recognize any wireless networks. It was working fine this morning, until I accidentally hit Fn F2, disabling the wireless card. I hit Fn F2 again to reenable it, but it no longer will detect any wireless networks (and other computers in the household do recognize them). Any help at all will be greatly appreciated! I googled quite a bit and talked to a human about this but could not fix it. • Can I force MySql table name case sensitivity on file systems that aren't case sensitive

  So our target environment is linux, making mysql case-sensitive by default. I am aware that we can make our linux environment not case sensitive with the lower_case_table_names variable, but we would rather not. We have a few times been bitten with a case mismatch because our dev rigs are OSX, and mysql is not case sensitive there. Is there a way we can force table names to be case sensitive on my OSX install of MySql (5.0.83 if that matters) so that we catch a table name case mismatch prior to deploying to the integration servers running on linux?

• EJB3 Business Delegates

  Is there any reason for making delegate when using EJB3? Because the only real benefit i see from delegate is that it allows to hide lookup and access details of EJB architecture. Well it also provides some decoupling but it's mostly unused, imho. With EJB3 we have injection so now i can just create a variable with @EJB annotation and use it as is. Do i still need delegates? Is this injection resource consuming? I mean if i use it in JSF's request managed beans may be it's still better to use delegates just to lessen these injection calls? Thank you!

• Using nginx's proxy_redirect when the response location's domain varies

  I am making an web app using SoundCloud's API. Requesting an MP3 to stream involves two requests. I'll give an example. Firstly: http://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/59815100/stream This returns a 302 with a temporary link to the actual MP3 (which varies each time), for example: http://ec-media.soundcloud.com/xYZk0lr2TeQf.128.mp3?ff61182e3c2ecefa438cd02102d0e385713f0c1faf3b0339595667fd0907ea1074840971e6330e82d1d6e15dd660317b237a59b15dd687c7c4215ca64124f80381e8bb3cb5&AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ4IAZE5EOI7PA7VQ&Expires=1347621419&Signature=Usd%2BqsuO9wGyn5%2BrFjIQDSrZVRY%3D The issue I had was that I am attempting to load the MP3 via JavaScript's XMLHTTPRequest, and for security reasons the browser can't follow the 302, as ec-media.soundcloud.com does not set a header saying it is safe for the browser to access via XMLHTTPRequest. This works! However, I have hit a snag. Sometimes the 302 location is not ec-media.soundcloud.com, it's ak-media.soundcloud.com. There are possibly even more servers out there and presumably more could appear at any time. Is there any way I can handle an arbitrary 302 location without having to manually enter each possible variation? Or is it possible for nginx to handle the redirect and return the response of the second step? So myserver/soundcloud/tracks/59815100 follows the 302 behind the scenes and returns the MP3? The browser automatically follows the redirect, so I can't do anything with the initial response on the client side. I am new to nginx and in a bit over my head so apologies if I've missed something obvious, or it's beyond the scope of nginx. Thanks a lot for reading.

• Some DHCP clients end up with wrong DNS server

  The scenario: DC running Windows Server 2008 R2 providing DNS + DHCP Cisco 1811 Router as the gateway 30 Windows XP DHCP clients on the LAN The problem: Some workstations are spontaneously switching to an incorrect DNS server. Specifically, ipconfig /all shows that they start using the gateway as a DNS server. This happens about 5-10 times a day to various computers, sometimes more than once per day. The workaround: Repairing the connection on the XP client always fixes the problem, and the correct DNS server address is obtained. We lost our main DNS/DHCP machine a week ago, and had to bring this one online as a spare. We've been having this issue since then. DHCP leases on the old and new servers are configured for "wired" (8 day) duration. There are definitely no other DHCP servers active on the LAN. So far there is no discernible pattern about which clients will show this problem, or when. When I ran DCDIAG /test:DNS it came back clean. Manual inspection of the DNS zone shows that all the records are appearing as expected, with no traces of the previous machine in there. Update Feb 27: Added screenshots. Here is a screenshot of the DHCP scope options on the 2008 R2 server. And here is a screenshot of ipconfig /all running on a healthy host. I don't have any ailing hosts at the moment, but will grab a screencap next time it happens. Update Feb 28: More screenshots. Here's a screenshot of DHCP and DNS traffic from a healthy client when repairing the local area connection. There's definitely only one server responding, but it does seem strange that the negotiation takes place twice. I'll try to get a similar capture from a sick machine this coming week. Update Mar 01: Caught a bad ipconfig. Here's a screenshot of ipconfig /all from a client that had this issue. It says the lease was issued this morning, but it doesn't even have an entry for the secondary DNS I set up yesterday. Both DNS servers were discovered properly when repairing the connection. Update Mar 01: It even got the sysadmin! This issue finally affected my personal workstation this morning. Unfortunately I had just rebooted and wasn't running a packet dump at the time. I set up a secondary server yesterday, and was logging all DNS traffic to it. My machine had not contacted the secondary DNS in over half an hour, so that says to me that it's just spontaneously reverting to the gateway without even failing over to secondary DNS first. Today I swapped the order of the DNS servers in DHCP, so the secondary is primary and vice versa. I will update again once I know how that goes.

  What encoding are the elements of sys.argv in, in Python? are they encoded with the sys.getdefaultencoding() encoding? sys.getdefaultencoding(): Return the name of the current default string encoding used by the Unicode implementation. PS: As pointed out in some of the answers, sys.stdin.encoding would indeed be a better guess. I would love to see a definitive answer to this question, though, with pointers to solid sources! PPS: As Wim pointed out, Python 3 solves this issue by putting str objects in sys.argv (if I understand correctly). The question remains open for Python 2.x, though. Under Unix, the LC_CTYPE environment variable seems to be the correct thing to check, no? What should be done with Windows (so that sys.argv elements are correctly interpreted whatever the console)?

• Why does Visual Studio 2008 change namespace characters in a generated file?

  Hello, I am working on a asp.net 3.5 project in sweden, where some of the namespaces include swedish characters, such as 'å', 'ä' and 'ö'. When building the project and generating the design-file, visual studio replaces these characters with some other strange characters. This only happens when the characters occur in a namespace or class name. If a field or variable contain a swedish character, everything works fine. To clarify, the strange character occur in the design file when a namespace and/or control contain swedish characters. Does anyone know why this happens and if there is a solution for the problem that doesn't mean changing the names of the namespaces? Sincerely, Fredrik

• How do I make a shortcut for a Perl program under Windows using a DOS batch file?

  I'm trying to "hide" some of my perl program from the end user to make things easier on them. I'm doing what I can to keep them out of the command prompt. The program itself has a GUI designed in Perl/Tk, so they don't have to worry about the command prompt. Could I write out a quick batch file that goes along the lines of: START perl 'C:\[some path here]\myscript.pl' with START to start a program, the perl interpretor as my program, and the path/name of my perl script as the parameter? Would I have to specify where to find perl or would Windows just know because perl is in the computer's PATH variable? Thanks for the help!

• AJAX call in for loop won't return values to correct array positions

  I need to get a range of pages using AJAX and put them into an array, where their given place in the array is equal to the i of a for loop (it's a caching-like function for blog pages, and the range of the for loop is entirely variable). I'm doing something akin to the following: var bongo = new Array(); for (i = 0; i < 10; i++) { jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: http://localhost, data: queryString, success: function(request) { bongo[i] = request } }) } The problem is, that unless I add async: false to the .ajax options (which would make it... SJAX?), which causes the requests to basically pause the browser, going against what I'm trying to do, the i in the success callback will always end up being 11, whereas I of course want it to pour the returned data into each slot of the array from 0 to 10. • Java-Swing: Change getSource() in ActionListener

  I have a class that contains a JButton. This can't be changed. The problem is this: The actionListener calls getSource() and gets the JButton, not the container class. Can I change what getSource retrieves, before the actionListener is added? OR can JButtons have a variable reference to its container? I can't make a class extend a JButton. It caused bugs for drawing purposes... story of my week.

  hi i tried 2 things what should be the same however it my testing says different does anyone know why the only thing i do is put it in a variable... if ($_SESSION[$something] === null) echo("this is null"); $_SESSION[$something] does not exists so it indeed says: "this is null". now look at this $theSession = $_SESSION[$something]; if (theSession === null) echo("this is null"); now it does not say "this is null" while it should be exactly the same right?

  In my View (using Zend_View so the the view is an object), I make calls to object properties and methods to populate the template like so: <?= $this->user->name ?> // Outputs John Doe <br/> <?= $this->user->getCompany()->name ?> // Outputs Acme <br/> <?= $this->method() ?> // Outputs foobar If I make it so that all property requests (like for 'user') go through __get() is there any way that I can catch the subsequent calls so that I can force a method call on the final outputted value? For example so that I could do automatic escaping of output. As I see it right now, I either have to escape the input as it goes into the database or use compiled templates like Smarty does, or switch to assigning every variable to the View object so that it has direct control to force escaping before outputting the data.

• How does a debug build make reverse engineering easy?

  Some answer here stated that debug info would make it easier to reverse engineer the software. When I use Visual C++ and distribute an executable with debugging information but without other files (.pdb), will it contain any interesting things? I looked to the executable with a hex editor and found nothing like symbol names, for now I assume the .exe file just links to information in the .pdb files, right? Do you know whether it contains variable names? function/member names? line numbers? anything interesting? Thanks!

• Using a priority queue in Java

  Forgive me if this is a tried question, but I'm having a little difficulty figuring it out. I currently have a class Node, and each 'node' is a square in a maze. I'm trying to implement the A* algorithm, so each of these nodes will have an f-cost (int) data member inside of it. I was wondering if there's a way that I can create a priority queue of these nodes, and set up the f-cost variable as the comparator? I've looked at examples online, but all I can find are String priority queues. Can I implement Comparator for the Node class? Would this allow me to access the data member stored inside it? I have a following Kohana setup: All my files are placed under 'public_html/koh' My js files are placed under 'public_html/koh/media/js/' I use html::script helper to include those javascript files which generates me following html code: In my js I access one of controllers like 'json/getsomething' (which is http://localhost/koh/json/getsomething). It works OK as long as I'm staying in top of the controller: http://localhost/koh/home When I go to 'http://localhost/koh/home/index' it renders the same page of course but 'json/getsomething' is not accessible from Javascript anymore. How can I solve this problem? Include Javascript using absolute path? Create a variable in js like var fullPath = 'http://localhost/koh/'? What is the best practice to do it? Leonti

• Getting the record ID just added with mysql prepared statements

  I'm inserting a record using PDO (very similar to mysqli). $addRecord->execute(); To know if the operation worked, I've learned that I can save it to a variable $result that can be used as true false $result = $addRecord->execute(); if ($result){ //add successful } else { //add unsuccessful } What I'd like to do is also get the record id just added. In the table, each record has an auto_incremented field called id. I tried doing this $new_id = $result['id']; but it seems that $result is purely boolean and doesn't actually hold the actual record that was added. Can someone confirm this and how would I then access the record just added? Note that several people may be adding to the same table at the same time, so I think getting just the last one would not be very accurate.
