    - by Darmen
Suppose I have ActivityA and ActivityB, also suppose that ActivityA is active. I need to: Programmatically set a text of EditText in ActivityB from ActivityA Launch ActivityB Here's my code: EditText res; final LayoutInflater factory = getLayoutInflater(); final View resultView = factory.inflate(R.layout.ActivityB, null); // get widget res = (EditText) resultView.findViewById(R.id.txtResult); // set the text res.setText("foobar"); // create intent Intent i = new Intent(ActivityA.this, ActivityB.class); startActivity(i); ActivityB starts, but without any text in txtResult. How can I fix that?

  • click buttons error

    - by sara
I will retrieve student information (id -number- name) from a database (MySQL) as a list view, each student have 2 buttons (delete - alert ) and radio buttons Every thing is ok, but how can I make an onClickListener, for example for the delete button because I try lots of examples, I heard that I can use (custom list or get view or direct onClickListener as in my code (but it is not working ) or Simple Cursor Adapter) I do not know what to use, I looked around for examples that can help me, but in my case but I did not find any so I hope this be reference for anyone have the same problem. this is my code which I use direct onClick with Simple Adapter public class ManageSection extends ListActivity { //ProgresogressDialog pDialog; private ProgressDialog pDialog; // Creating JSON Parser object // Creating JSON Parser object JSONParser jParser = new JSONParser(); //class boolean x =true; Button delete; ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>> studentList; //url to get all products list private static String url_all_student = "http://10.0.2.2/SmsPhp/view_student_info.php"; String cl; // JSON Node names private static final String TAG_SUCCESS = "success"; private static final String TAG_student = "student"; private static final String TAG_StudentID = "StudentID"; private static final String TAG_StudentNo = "StudentNo"; private static final String TAG_FullName = "FullName"; private static final String TAG_Avatar="Avatar"; HashMap<String, String> selected_student; // course JSONArray JSONArray student = null; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.manage_section); studentList = new ArrayList<HashMap<String, String>>(); ListView list1 = getListView(); list1.setAdapter(getListAdapter()); list1.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { @Override public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int pos, long l) { selected_student =(HashMap<String, String>) studentList.get(pos); //member of your activity. delete =(Button)view.findViewById(R.id.DeleteStudent); cl=selected_student.get(TAG_StudentID); Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(),cl,Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); delete.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { Log.d("id: ",cl); Toast.makeText(getBaseContext(),cl,Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } }); } }); new LoadAllstudent().execute(); } /** * Background Async Task to Load all student by making HTTP Request * */ class LoadAllstudent extends AsyncTask<String, String, String> { /** * Before starting background thread Show Progress Dialog * */ @Override protected void onPreExecute() { super.onPreExecute(); pDialog = new ProgressDialog(ManageSection.this); pDialog.setMessage("Loading student. There is no error in my log cat. What is the alternative way ?.. what should I do ?

  • Is there a way to animate on a Home Widget?

    - by David
Hi All, I want to use an animation on a Home page Widget, i.e. an AppWidgetProvider. I was hoping to use the "Frame Animation" technique: http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/graphics/2d-graphics.html#frame-animation which I've used successfully in an activity. But I can't translate that code to an AppWidgetProvider. Basically, in an AppWidgetProvider, I create and work with a RemoteViews object, which AFAIK doesn't provide me with a method to get a reference to an ImageView in the layout for me to call start() on the animation. There is also not a handler or a callback for when the widget displays so I can make the start() call. Is there another way this can be done? I suppose that I can probably do the animation on my own with very fast onUpdate() calls on the widget, but that seems awfully expensive.

  • Poor Transparency on Images

    - by KyleStew
I am having problems getting transparency to work well on an ImageView. The images at (http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6233/whatn.png) were screen captured from a Droid (hdpi). The top image I made in Photoshop and left the background white. The bottom image is the same image with the background transparent and the layout's color (white) shows through. Whenever I have transparent backgrounds in images it dithers shadows like this. Also, it only happens on hdpi devices, on my G1 (mdpi) it looks just fine. What is going on? How can I make the bottom image look as good as the top one?

  • How to change ScrollView's position after touch?

    - by Matt
I'm trying to make a ScrollView with a list of numbers in it that the user can select from. After the user touches and scrolls, after the finger is lifted I want the scroll to "snap" to the item in the middle of the ScrollView and give me the output. My ScrollView contains a vertical linear layout with TextView objects in it. The ScrollView's vertical size is about 60sp. I think this would involve the ScrollView.onTouch with a ACTION_UP, but I don't know how to use it. Also, is there a way to get an item's index or value based on a position in the list? Thanks!

  • SlidingDrawer handle design issue

    - by bali182
I would like to create a SlidingDrawer, which has a handle like this: Until now i tought my solution was ok, which was: 1.) I created a 9 patch: As you can see, the center part is not strechable, only the two sides (and the height, if needed). On most of the phones i got the desired result, shown above. 2.) Put it in this layout (just pseudo-code): <SlidingDrawer (fullscreen)> <Button as handle (full width, backround the 9patch)/> <LinearLayout as content /> </SlidingDrawer> However, i tested the app on my friend's new Galaxy S3, and the result was something like this: The part, which should be centered, was completely off one side. And i have no idea, why and it bugs me since then. My Question: Is this the prefered way (9 patch with full width) to acomplish the look i want? If not, could someone suggest me a better solution?

  • Retractable button bar using animations

    - by AndroidDev
I want to create a button bar that is retractable: when the user clicks on a special "handle" button, the button bar should slide out of view partially so only the handle remains visible. When the bar is in retracted state only the handle is visible. Clicking on the handle should "slide out" the button bar so it is completely visible again. Ideally, the bar would start out in retracted state. I have tried some approaches using TranslateAnimation, including using a layout animation or calling "View.startAnimation" when the handle is clicked, but no luck so far. Do you guys have any tips how to approach this? Is there any decent documentation out there regarding Android animations? The documentation I find is sketchy at best. For instance, I found examples that cause a view to slide into view automatically using TranslateAnimation and a LayoutAnimationController when calling "addView", but when I call removeView no animation seems to be triggered at all, even if I set an animation that should create the opposite motion.

  • When marking an item (changing background color) in ListView it's repeating for other items.

    - by Adi
If I want to mark the second item I'm doing the following code: This code is from my Adapter that extends ArrayAdapter : if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater mInflater = (LayoutInflater)getContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.channel_list, null); } MyContent o = items.get(position); if (o != null) { TextView tt = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.toptext); TextView bt = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.bottomtext); if (tt != null) { tt.setText(o.Top()); } if(bt != null){ bt.setText(o.Bottom()); } if(position == 2) { convertView.setBackgroundColor(R.color.selectem_color); } } return convertView; It will show the list view but mark every 9'th item after this item (the 11'th item 13'th and so on). Does anyone know what's the reason?

  • What is the preferred method of device-specific rendering in .net websites?

    - by alimac83
I'm working on a website using webforms (although I'd be keen to hear how this works with MVC) and I'm trying to figure out the best approach for rendering content for mobile devices. Usually when I'm working on sites that have to be viewed on mobile devices, I use media queries to style the content differently. The problem is that in my current scenario I'm trying to display different content altogether, rather than just changing the layout of existing content. What's the preferred approach for this? I've had a look at 'device specific rendering' on msdn (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hkx121s4.aspx) although I'm not sure if this is a good approach? What are the pros/cons/alternatives? Thank you EDIT: I've found this but it's for use with mvc4, not webforms. EDIT #2: I think I've found what I'm after here but is this a good approach?

  • How to control a webView

    - by klaus-vlad
Hi, In one of my xml layouts I use an webview (besides other TextViews) for which I call loadUrl("myURL") to display the content from a url. The desired effect is to have displayed in a screen all the other textViews , and below them the content of web page. However when the webview loads the URL , it starts a new activity and displays the content in that activity, which is not what I need. Any ideas on how I could force the described behavior ? Later edit: I have succeed to have layout with several views mixed, one of them being the webview .Also I have succeed to obtain the described above behavior. But only after I setted a WebView client with setWebViewClient(WebViewClient); . Now I'd like to know why does it work like this only after a webViewClient is set ?

  • how to force onLayout

    - by rekisum
Hi i want to design a custom View where I need to recalculate my layout and redraw when user changes something. To force a onLayout(), the only solution that works for me until now is: onLayout(true, 0, 0, 0, 0); invalidate(); Of course that gives me a lint error and I have to add a @SuppressLint("WrongCall"). So there must be a smarter solution. Calls of forceLayout or requestLayout didn't work. Probably they only put a request on a stack but don't react immediately. As my view has no child elements and I do the drawing inside all by myself, could be I'm bypassing some Android design guides and abusing some principles. Can live with the lint error but maybe someone already found a solution. Thanks!

  • EditText and Button on the same line with Textiew underneath?

    - by Kevin
Hi, I am trying to have an EditText widget next to a button with a text view underneath. The EditText should resize and fill the screen accordingly, while the button's width is always only what it needs to be by setting the width to wrap_content. The layout should not be relative. Below is the code I have so far some of which was found here on StackOverflow. Removing the text view gives the desired appearance for the EditText and button, but when the TextView is added the view goes to ... well. Not sure why the code is not showing? I put it into a < code< pre block without success. http://pastebin.com/WgH6qrTm

  • Why isn't this simple program working?

    - by user1445478
I'm writing a very basic program that aims for the text view to display the phrase "Hello" after a button is pressed on the screen. However, I can't get this program to work; every time I run it, it says that the application has stopped unexpectedly. This is the program I wrote: public class EtudeActivityActivity extends Activity{ TextView tvResponse; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); final TextView tvResponse = (TextView) findViewById (R.id.tvResponse); } public void updateTV(View v) { tvResponse.setText("Hello"); } } Also, I inserted an android:onClick = "updateTV" into my main.xml file for the button. Thanks for any help!

  • How to set a custom font for a spinner?

    - by AndrewC
Is there anyway to set a custom font or color for the selected item in a Spinner? For example, I open the spinner and click a priority of "High". I'm my layout containing the spinner, I would like to see the word "High" in red or a custom font. I can't seem to obtain the textview to make the necessary change. I always obtain a NullPointerException if I typecast the spinner.getSelectedView() to textview and attempt to set the color. any ideas? thanks in advance!

  • How to make a slide gesture in a view?

    - by AedonEtLIRA
I have a grid layout that holds a limited 6 items per screen. This set number is just a base for the app and make it look and feel better so it must stay set to that. To get passed this and to add some flash to the app, I want to animate a style of screen change. For instance, when a finger is dragged left, push the current view to the side and bring the next it, very similar to how a gallery does it, except I would like it to be able to scroll vertical as well. Any help or tutorials will be appreciated ~Aedon.
