• Any way to pass parameters programmatically to an onclick function?

  I have an onclick function which performs several tasks. In another javascript function I do not have access to the context variables needed to perform these tasks. To get around this I have been simply calling the onclick function directly. The problem I have now is that I'd like to perform a task after an Ajax action in the onclick completes. Is there any way for me to pass a function to the onclick method of a link? What would the onclick attribute look like? e.g. something like this: <a id="link3" href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function(callback) { X(a); Y(b); Z(c, callback); };">click me</a> Clicking on this would pass "undefined" as the callback, while I could also call it explicitly like this: document.getElementById("link3").onclick(function() { alert("Completed all tasks"); } ); Is something like this possible? Basically I want to be able to pass an optional parameter to the onclick method, but if it's absent I want it to behave as if there were just procedural code in the onclick.

  Ok the thing is that I am using asp.net mvc with linq to sql. I have a scenario where there are two tables group and features with many to many relationship with the third table groupfeatures. I have drag and drop all three table in the dbml file.   I need to implement time calculation for repository methods in my asp .net mvc project classes. The problem is that i need to send time calculation data to WCF Service which is time consuming. I think about threads which can help to cal WCF service asynchronously. But I have very little experience with it. Do I need to create new thread each time or I can create a global thread, if so then how? • Add a custom variable to an email header already within a gmail inbox

  Hi guys - this may seem odd but I was wondering if it was possible to add custom header details to emails already in an inbox. Like lets say I wish to add in the Header of the email something like - myvariable = myvalue and then be able to query it somehow. I'm looking at code from Iloha mail and most of the details like subject and from recieved etc are in the headers and you can search through them. SO is it possible to add my own custom variable to an email header and query it in the same way? How can it be done using php? EDIT ==================== Thanks I know how you can modify the headers of sent messages plus also query for custom variables in message headers however in this case I want to know if it would be possible to add a custom variable in a recieved message already in my inbox. Actually let me define the situation here. I'm working on a google apps solution which requires maintaining references to emails. Basically the application is as such that when an email comes in - we create an order from that email and wish to maintain a reference to that EXACT email by some kind of identifier which would enable us to identify that email. The fact is that we don't want to download the emails in a database and maintain a separate store as we would want to keep all the emailing on GMAIL. We just need: A way to be able to 'link' to a specific email permanently - the UID is just a sequence number and not very reliable. We couldn't find any property of emails that could function as a unique ID or primary key and so we thought if we could instead generate a key on our end and store it in a custom variable on the email itself. However it seems unfortunately that there isn't a way to manipulate headers of an already existing email. :( is there any solution to this problem I could use any IDEA !

Inside the function i call 2 other functions that use getJSON and POST (with json as a return object) to get some data.   Suppose you had code like this: _READERS = None _WRITERS = None def Init(num_readers, reader_params, num_writers, writer_params, ...args...): ...logic... _READERS = new ReaderPool(num_readers, reader_params) _WRITERS = new WriterPool(num_writers, writer_params) ...more logic... class Doer: def __init__(...args...): ... def Read(self, ...args...): c = _READERS.get() try: ...work with conn finally: _READERS.put(c) def Writer(...): ...similar to Read()... To me, this is a bad pattern to follow, some cons: Doers can be created without its preconditions being satisfied The code isn't easily testable because ConnPool can't be directly mocked out. Init has to be called right the first time. If its changed so it can be called multiple times, extra logic has to be added to check if variables are already defined, and lots of NULL values have to be passed around to skip re-initializing. In the event of threads, the above becomes more complicated by adding locking Globals aren't being used to communicate state (which isn't strictly bad, but a code smell) On the other hand, some pros: its very convenient to call Init(5, "user/pass", 2, "user/pass") It simple and "clean" Personally, I think the cons outweigh the pros, that is, testability and assured preconditions outweigh simplicity and convenience.

  Is there a way that I can get to the exception that was handled by the MSTest framework using the TestContext or some other method on a base test class? If an unhandled exception occurs in one of my tests, I'd like to spin through all the items in the exception.Data dictionary and display them to the test result to help me figure out why the test failed (we usually add data to the exception to help us debug in the production env, so I'd like to do the same for testing). Note: I am not testing that an exception was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN (I have other tests for that), I am testing a valid case, I just need to see the exception data. Here is a code example of what I'm talking about. • New at Python: GLPK not building properly / Python ImportError

  This is a beginner question, and a follow-up to this one, where I was pointed to GLPK. I'm trying to get PyGLPK, a Python binding for the GNU Linear Programming Kit up and running, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to build and install GLPK so that Python finds it correctly. This comes after running ./configure, make, and sudo make install on the GLPK libraries, and following the instructions for PyGLPK. Specifically, here is the error I get: >>> import glpk Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site- packages/glpk.so, 2): Symbol not found: __glp_lpx_print_ips Referenced from: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/lib/python2.6/site-packages/glpk.so Expected in: dynamic lookup I assume that something isn't linking to somewhere else, and that it probably has something to do with paths and environment variables. • Universal Authentication to Google Data API?

  Hey, I want to be able to have say 10 admin users store all their documents on google docs for a domain ('http://docs.google.com/a/domain.com'), and have everyone else be able to view them through 'domain.com/documents'. I'm just not certain how the whole authentication thing works in that case. Should I use OAuth? Or could I just use ClientLogin for say the root/global admin, and anytime someone goes to the site, they login as that? That works for personal docs, but it doesn't seem to be working for Google Apps. I would like it so the user has no idea they're accessing google docs, so I don't want them to have to say "Yes, Authenticate this App with Google", as seen in this Doclist Manager App. The app is basically: Admin stores a bunch of forms and documents User uses form and views documents the admin has posted ... so there's no need to access the user's Google Docs. But it seems like AuthSub and OAuth are addressing that instead... Thanks for the tips.

• AS3 - Unloaded AVM1 swfs trace out as unloaded but memory is not freed for the AVM2 machine

  I have a large project built in as3. Part of its main functionality is to load and unload various as2 swfs. The problem is that the memory ins't free up once they are unloaded. I have access to the as2 swfs code base and destroyed all objects, stopped and killed timers, listeners, removed from stage, destroyed all the MovieClip.protoypes that were created. They look to be clean as far as the AS2 debugger show no remnants of the object after the destroy function is run. In AS3 i've closed the local connection, cleaned all references/listeners to the AVM1Movie and ran Loader.unloadAndStop(). The trace out in flex says the swf was unloaded but looking at windows task manager the memory usage never drops to when it was before the as2 swf was loaded. Each as2 swf can take up to 80 megs each time it's run so memory gets eaten up fast and loading and unloading a few as2 files. At this point if the AS2 swfs are unloaded the only thing that I can assume that could be left is MovieClip.prototype and/or _global, _root variables add during the AS2's run time. But i've gone through those and can't find anything else that might be sticking. Has anyone ever seen problems before with the AVM1 machine not freeing up its memory?

  Hello, I have a test suite to perform smoke tests. I have all my script stored in various classes but when I try and run the test suite I can't seem to get it working if it is in a class. I run this as a script and call in variables into the tests. I do not want to have to run the tests by os.system('python tests.py'). I was hoping to call the tests through the class I have like any other function. This need's to be called from a class as the script that I'm calling it from is Object Oriented.   I wanted to try something new and so I designed some programming languages and wrote interpreters for them: A rather low-level, not very expressive language. (I didn't want to parse complex expressions right at the beginning) It featured: Variables (yay) Subroutines, with a call stack Basic arithmetic functions, basic string manipulation, ... Code in the language looks like this: set i 0 inc i print i Very, very basic you see. A more high-level language I decided to make it structured and so it featured things like if-else, while, functions, and so on. The stuff most programming languages have. Ended up like a unworthy Python clone, I hated that. A code-golf language Which ended up similar to J, golfcode, APL, etc. Nothing special As you can see: I don't lack the skills but the ideas. I can't figure out anything new, not even bad, unneccessary things, for my languages. - Do you know of some weird things I could implement in my languages, which don't try to make programming harder (like most esoteric languages) but funnier or more different from other languages? It can't be possible that every weird thing has been tried out so far, or?

• identation control while developing a small python like language

  Hello, Im developing a small python like language using flex, byacc (for lexical and parsing) and C++, but i have a few questions regarding scope control. just as python it uses white spaces (or tabs) for identation, not only that but i want to implement index breaking like for instance if you type "break 2" inside a while loop thats inside another while loop it would not only break from the last one but from the first loop as well (hence the number 2 after break) and so on. example: while 1 while 1 break 2 end end #after break 2 it would jump right here but since i dont have an "anti" tab character to check when a scope ends (like C for example i would just use the '}' char) i was wondering if this method would the the best: i would define a global variable, like "int tabIndex" on my yacc file that i would access in my lex file using extern. then everytime i find a tab character on my lex file i would increment that variable by 1. when parsing on my yacc file if i find a "break" keyword i would decrement by the amount typed after it from the tabIndex variable, and when i reach and EOF after compiling and i get a tabIndex != 0 i would output compilation error. now the problem is, whats the best way to see if the identation got reduced, should i read \b (backspace) chars from lex and then reduce the tabIndex variable (when the user doesnt use break)? another method to achieve this? also just another small question, i want every executable to have its starting point on the function called start() should i hardcode this onto my yacc file? sorry for the long question any help is greatly appretiated. also if someone can provide an yacc file for python would be nice as a guideline (tried looking on google and had no luck). thanks in advance.

• Setting Path and Expiration for session cookie in asp.net

  Anything I have tried didn't work. Currenly I have following code to change asp.net session cookie expiration date and path, but asp doesn't want to listen to me. I sends same cookie in Set-Cookie header two times sometimes, sometimes it sends it's default cookie ignoring path and expiration date, sometimes it sends everything as expected, and sometimes it doesn't send Set-Cookie at all. What should I do.
