• Grails 1.2.1 with Spring 3.0.0 dependency problem under Jetty

  Just moved to Grails 1.2.1 (used 1.1.1 before). Changed application.properties, ran grails upgrade, fixed BuildConfig and Bootstrap - everything works just fine from grails console. However, getting a problem when deploy packaged war under jetty 6.1.22: 1581 [main] ERROR org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader - Context initialization failed org.springframework.beans.factory.access.BootstrapException: Error executing bootstraps; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.codehaus.groovy.grails.commons.spring.ReloadAwareAutowireCapableBeanFactory.setParameterNameDiscoverer(Lorg/springframework/core/ParameterNameDiscoverer;)V My project is built with maven2. I researched the war dependencies and see that both spring 2.5.6 and 3.0.0.RELEASE are used there. I then tried to suppress use of spring 2.5.6 and got a problem with Acegi plugin (using version 0.5.1): 2010-03-10 21:06:56.440:WARN::Nested in org.springframework.beans.factory.access.BootstrapException: Error executing bootstraps; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.springframework.web.context.ConfigurableWebApplicationContext.setId(Ljava/lang/String;)V Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Postgresql 8.4 reading OID style BLOBs with Hibernate

  I am getting this weird case when querying Postgres 8.4 for some records with Blobs (of type OIDs) with Hibernate. The query does return all right but when my code wants to read the content of the BLOB with the simple code below, it gets 0 bytes back public static byte[] readBlob(Blob blob) throws Exception { InputStream is = null; try { is = blob.getBinaryStream(); return org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils.toByteArray(is); } finally { if (is != null) try { is.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } Funny think is that I am getting this behavior only since I've started adding more then one such records to the table. The underlying JDBC library is type 3 (postgresq 8.4-701). Can someone give me a hint as to how to solve this issue? Thanks Peter

• Can't authenticate with different NTLM credentials in one session with java.net.URLConnection

  When I access a HTTP server using the standard Java API (java.net.URLConnection), the credentials are "cached" after the first successful authentication, and subsequent calls to Authenticator.setDefault() have no effect. So, I need to restart the application in order to use different credentials. I don't observe this effect when Basic Authentication is used. But I need to use NTLM for the server I'm accessing, and the Jakarta Commons HttpClient isn't an alternative either because it doesn't support NTLMv2 (see http://oaklandsoftware.com/papers/ntlm.html) Looking at the packets using Wireshark, I also observe that before the first successful authentication, an authentication with the current Windows credentials is attempted first. But after succesful authentication, only the saved credentials are used. Is there any way to reset or change the credentials java.net.Authenticator is using after a successful NTLM authentication?

• java: how to compress data into a String and uncompress data from the String

  I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into data.zip server send to repository content of data.zip repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool I have tried a lots of compressing example found on the web but each time a send the data to the repository, my resulting zip file is corrupted. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. • OpenCV SVD Matrix format.

  I currently have a set of 2D Cartesian coordinates e.g. {(1,3), (2,2), (3,4)} Which will be put into a 2D array, to perform SVD properly would the matrix be put together such that the coordinates form the columns or the rows e.g. 1 3 2 2 3 4 or 1 2 3 3 2 4 I have been doing a little trial and error comparing to examples of SVD I have found online, the resulting matrix usually seems to be negated, with some of the values shuffled around. To clarify further if I had a matrix E which was MxN as shown here http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bb/Matrix.svg To define the matrix as a 2D array would it be Array[M][N] or Array[N][M] I am assuming this actually matters due to matrix arithmetic not being commutative? Can anyone actually verify this?

• problem using base64 encoder and InputStreamReader

  I have some CLOB columns in a database that I need to put Base64 encoded binary files in. These files can be large, so I need to stream them, I can't read the whole thing in at once. I'm using org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64InputStream to do the encoding, and I'm running into a problem. My code is essentially this FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(file); Base64InputStream b64is = new Base64InputStream(fis, true, -1, null); InputStreamReader reader = new InputStreamReader(b64is); preparedStatement.setCharacterStream(1, reader); When I run the above code, I get one of these during the execution of the update java.io.IOException: Underlying input stream returned zero bytes, it is thrown deep in the InputStreamReader code. Why would this not work? It seems to me like the reader would attempt to read from the base 64 stream, which would read from the file stream, and everything should be happy.

  Dear All: Sorry this is probably a very simple question. I am using gradle http://www.gradle.org/ for my development environment. It works quite well! I have written a simple unit test that uses HtmlUnit and my own package. For my own package, I use java.util.Logger. HtmlUnit seems to use commons logging: http://htmlunit.sourceforge.net/logging.html I would like to see console output of my logging messages from java.util.Logger However, it seems that even messages at the info level are not displayed in my Unit Test Results GUI (System.err link), although the HtmlUnit messages are all displayed.   I want to put some compressed data into a remote repository. To put data on this repository I can only use a method that take the name of the resource and its content as a String. (like data.txt + "hello world"). The repository is moking a filesystem but is not, so I can not use File directly. I want to be able to do the following: client send to server a file 'data.txt' server compress 'data.txt' into a compressed file 'data.zip' server send a string representation of data.zip to the repository repository store data.zip client download from repository data.zip and his able to open it with its favorite zip tool The problem arise at step 3 when I try to get a string representation of my compressed file. Here is a sample class, using the zip*stream and that emulate the repository showcasing my problem. The created zip file is working, but after its 'serialization' it's get corrupted. Over the past month I've been studying really hard and I'm trying to modify and adapt some of the shaders as part of my personal 'study project'. If I set every bone transformation to a zero matrix, the model still shows up as if nothing had happened, but changing the Pos field in shader output makes the model disappear. • How do I get the size of a response from a Spring 2.5 HTTP remoting call?

  I've been poking around the org.springframework.remoting.httpinvoker package in Spring 2.5 trying to find a way to get visibility into the size of the response, but I keep going around in circles. Via another question I saw here, I think what I want to do is get a handle on the InputStream that represents the response from the server, and then wrap it with an Apache commons-io CountingInputStream. What's the best way to go about doing this? For the moment, I'd be happy with just printing the size of the response to stdout, but eventually I want to store it in a well-known location in my app for optional display.

• Spring online repository for Maven

  I've just installed Maven2 for the first time. By default it pulls down a few useful jars into a local project: jakarta-commons, junit etc. I wanted to pull in the latest Spring release (2.5.6 at the time of writing). But the online repositories I looked at (iBiblio and Maven) only had much older versions of Spring libraries. Are there any other repositories that are kept up to date? What is the best practice here; can we maintain them ourselves? I would be prepared to help out maintaining this stuff!

• How to configure MySQL connection properties with Spring, Hibernate 3.3 and c3p0?

  I am currently in the process of upgrading an application from Hibernate 3.2 to Hibernate 3.3. I though I'd stick with the default connection pool (Hibernate changed its default from Commons DBCP to c3p0) as I don't have any good reason to choose a non-default pool. At least non but having used DBCP before. The upgrade went pretty much without any problems so far. The only thing I can't get to work is passing properties to the underlying MySQL JDBC4Connection. Up to now, I used DBCP's BasicDataSource.addConnectionProperty(String,String) to pass properties (useUnicode=true, characterEncodin=UTF-8, characterSetResults=UTF-8, zeroDateTimeBehavior=convertToNull). However, I can't find any way to do the same with c3p0 other than including them in the JDBC URL. (That's something I'd like to avoid as I wanna keep the URL configurable without forcing users to include those parameters.) So far, I've tried to use a ConnectionCustomizer without success. Any other suggestions?

Obviously, to implement a comparison it not difficult, it is enough to compare all keys and their associated values. Like this however, I end up with a WEB-INF/lib containing the subdirectories from my patterns: WEB-INF/lib/external/castor-1.1.jar WEB-INF/lib/external/... Is there any way to flatten this, so the JAR files appear top-level under WEB-INF/lib, regardless of the directories specified in the patterns? I looked at mapper but it seems you cannot use them inside lib.

• Hibernate error: cannot resolve table

  I'm trying to make work the example from hibernate reference. I've got simple table Pupil with id, name and age fields. I've created correct (as I think) java-class for it according to all java-beans rules. I've created configuration file - hibernate.cfg.xml, just like in the example from reference. I've created hibernate mapping for one class Pupil, and here is the error occured. <hibernate-mapping> <class name="Pupil" table="pupils"> ... </class> </hibernate-mapping> table="pupils" is red in my IDE and I see message "cannot resolve table pupils". I've also founded very strange note in reference which says that most users fail with the same problem trying to run the example. Ah.. I'm very angry with this example.. IMHO if authors know that there is such problem they should add some information about it. But, how should I fix it? I don't want to deal with Ant here and with other instruments used in example. I'm using MySql 5.0, but I think it doesn't matter. • Spring/Hibernate: InvocationTargetException when deleting entity

  I'm sorry if this question is a bit vague, but I'm quite confused. I've got a controller that calls a service to delete an entity and then create an entity in its place. In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException.
