One is assigned to the "admin" role, the other to the "user" role. I could, of course, add a Login dialog to the "SwitchToAdminAction", so that authentication is required in order to switch to the "admin" role. Now, let's say I am now in the "user" role. So, the "UserTopComponent" shown above is now opened. I decide to also open another window, the Properties window, as below... ...and, when I am in the "admin" role, when the "AdminTopComponent" is open, I decide to also open the Output window, as below... Now, when I switch from one role to the other, the additional window/s I opened will also be opened, together with the explicit members of the currently selected role. And, the main window position and size are also persisted across roles. When I look in the "build" folder of my project in development, I see two different Windows2Local folders, one per role, automatically created by the fact that there is something to be persisted for a particular role, e.g., when a switch to a different role is done: And, with that, we now clearly have roles/profiles/perspectives in NetBeans Platform applications from NetBeans Platform 7.1 onwards.

• Using BizTalk to bridge SQL Job and Human Intervention (Requesting Permission)

  I start off the process with either a BizTalk Scheduler (http://biztalkscheduledtask.codeplex.com/releases/view/50363) or a manual file drop of the XML message.  The manual file drop is to allow the SQL  Job to call a "File Copy" SSIS step to copy the trigger file for the next process and allows SQL  Job to be linked back into BizTalk processing.   Hi, I have a GridView to which I bind a dataTable I manually create. Both the GridView and the dataTable contain 2 columns, Name and isBusy. • Multithreading recommendation based on program description

  I would like to describe some specifics of my program and get feedback on what the best multithreading model to use would be most applicable. I've spent a lot of time now reading on ThreadPool, Threads, Producer/Consumer, etc. and have yet to come to solid conclusions. I have a list of files (all the same format) but with different contents. I have to perform work on each file. The work consists of reading the file, some processing that takes about 1-2 minutes of straight number crunching, and then writing large output files at the end. I would like the UI interface to still be responsive after I initiate the work on the specified files. Some questions: What model/mechanisms should I use? Producer/Consumer, WorkPool, etc. Should I use a BackgroundWorker in the UI for responsiveness or can I launch the threading from within the Form as long as I leave the UI thread alone to continue responding to user input? How could I take results or status of each individual work on each file and report it to the UI in a thread safe way to give user feedback as the work progresses (there can be close to 1000 files to process) Update: Great feedback so far, very helpful. I'm adding some more details that are asked below: Output is to multiple independent files. One set of output files per "work item" that then themselves gets read and processed by another process before the "work item" is complete The work items/threads do not share any resources. The work items are processed in part using a unmanaged static library that makes use of boost libraries.

  I am using jQuery UI dialog for modal popups. I have some iframes in my page as well. The iFrame (z-Index = 1500) sits on top of the parent page (z-index =1000). I open the modal dialog from the parent page. I am trying to set the z-index using $('modal').dialog('option','zIndex',3000); but this is not working. I also tried stack:true (to stack it on top), and .dialog( 'moveToTop' ) as well, but they don't seem to work. • Threading 101: What is a Dispatcher?

  Once upon a time, I remembered this stuff by heart. Over time, my understanding has diluted and I mean to refresh it. As I recall, any so called single threaded application has two threads: a) the primary thread that has a pointer to the main or DllMain entry points; and b) For applications that have some UI, a UI thread, a.k.a the secondary thread, on which the WndProc runs, i.e. the thread that executes the WndProc that recieves messages that Windows posts to it. In short, the thread that executes the Windows message loop. For UI apps, the primary thread is in a blocking state waiting for messages from Windows. When it recieves them, it queues them up and dispatches them to the message loop (WndProc) and the UI thread gets kick started. As per my understanding, the primary thread, which is in a blocking state, is this: C++ while(getmessage(/* args &msg, etc. */)) { translatemessage(&msg, 0, 0); dispatchmessage(&msg, 0, 0); } C# or VB.NET WinForms apps: Application.Run( new System.Windows.Forms() ); Is this what they call the Dispatcher? My questions are: a) Is my above understanding correct? b) What in the name of hell is the Dispatcher? c) Point me to a resource where I can get a better understanding of threads from a Windows/Win32 perspective and then tie it up with high level languages like C#. • Looking for a workaround for IE 6/7 "Unspecified Error" bug when accessing offsetParent; using ASP.N

  I'm using jQuery UI's draggable and droppable libraries in a simple ASP.NET proof of concept application. This page uses the ASP.NET AJAX UpdatePanel to do partial page updates. The page allows a user to drop an item into a trashcan div, which will invoke a postback that deletes a record from the database, then rebinds the list (and other controls) that the item was drug from. All of these elements (the draggable items and the trashcan div) are inside an ASP.NET UpdatePanel. If not, what's the best way to manage keeping my changes in sync when I update the jQuery libraries in the future? • Databinding in WinForms performing async data import

  I have a scenario where I have a collection of objects bound to a datagrid in winforms. If a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I need to add a placeholder row into the grid and kick off a lengthy async import process. I need to communicate the status of the async import process back to the UI, updating the row in the grid and have the UI remain responsive to allow the user to edit the other rows. What's the best practice for doing this? My current solution is: binding a thread safe implementation of BindingList to the grid, filled with the objects that are displayed as rows in the grid. When a user drags and drops an item on to the grid, I create a new object containing the sparse info obtained from the dropped item and add that to the BindingList, disabling the editing of that row. I then fire off a separate thread to do the import, passing it the newly bound object I have just created to fill with data. The import process, periodically sets the status of the object and fires an event which is subscribed to by the UI telling it to refresh the grid to see the new properties on the object. Should I be passing the same object that is bound to the grid to the import process thread to operate on, or should I be creating a copy and merging back the changes to the object on the UI thread using BeginInvoke? Any problems or advice with this implementation? Thanks

  Hi, I am working on a JEE application with facelets running in Tomcat 6. I wrote I Filter which works fine. Inside some facelet pages there are <h:commandLink> elements refering to another page inside the application and passing parameters to a managed bean. The refered page works on with the managed bean which got the parameter passed. <h:commandLink action="SingleArtikel.xhtml">Details <f:setPropertyActionListener target="#{artikelBackingBean.primaryKey}" value="${artikel.primaryKey}" /> </h:commandLink> Now when I click on such a link, the filter is not beeing called. The URL inside the browsers url text field does not change. • Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

  I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so?   Question 1 In the DoWork event handler of a BackgroundWorker, is it safe to access (for both reading and writing) member variables of the class that contains the BackgroundWorker? Is it safe to access other variables that are not declared inside the DoWork event handler itself? Obviously DoWork should not be accessing any UI objects of, say, a WinForms application, as the UI should only be updated from the UI thread. But what about accessing other (not UI-related) member variables? The reason why I ask is that I've seen the occasional comment come up while Googling saying that accessing member variables is not allowed. The only example I can find at the moment is a comment on this MSDN page, which says: Note, that the BGW can cause exceptions if it attempts to access or modify class level variables. All data must be passed to it by delegates and events. And also: NEVER. NEVER. Never try to reference variables not declared inside of DoWork. It may seem to work at times, but in reality you are just getting lucky. As far as I know, MSDN itself does not document any restrictions of this kind (although if I'm wrong, I'd appreciate a link). But comments like these do seem to pop up every now and again. (Of course if DoWork does access/modify a member variable that could be accessed/modified by the main thread at the same time, it is necessary to synchronise access to that field, eg by using a locking object. But the above quotes seem to require a blanket ban of accessing member variables, rather than just synchronising access!) Question 2 To make this into a more general question, are there any other (not documented?) restrictions that users of the BackgroundWorker should be aware of, aside from the above? Any "best practices", perhaps?

  Hi everyone: I'm working with several widgets but the solution just won't come out. What I have is a series of buttons in series of QHBoxLayouts. Some buttons are hidden by default, but they will appear when needed. To solve space issues, all buttons have a minimum and maximum size so they always look well packed. Also I have a QTextEdit, visible by default, which is in a QVBoxLayout with the QHBoxLayout that hold the buttons So the problem is this: When I hide the QTextEdit and show the other buttons, the window won't resize. After searching I found that using self.ui.layout().setSizeConstraint(QtGui.QLayout.SetFixedSize) will do the trick, but the problem is that it takes the maximum size from all widgets, therefore I end a huge window. Doing self.ui.layout().setSizeConstraint(QtGui.QLayout.SetMinAndMaxSize) won't resize the window I already tried using self.ui.resize(0,0), and when doing a self.ui.layout().update() I got False (which I find odd, http://doc.trolltech.com/4.6/qlayout.html#activate), and also tried to override sizeHint() but it keeps using the max size for all widgets. Is there a way to resize the window and while taking care of the min and max size of a widget? Thanks in advance

• BackgroundWorker might be causing my application to hang

  I have a Form that uses a BackgroundWorker to execute a series of tests. I use the ProgressChanged event to send messages to the main thread, which then does all of the updates on the UI. I've combed through my code to make sure I'm not doing anything to the UI in the background worker. There are no while loops in my code and the BackgroundWorker has a finite execution time (measured in seconds or minutes). However, for some reason when I lock my computer, often times the application will be hung when I log back in. The thing is, the BackgroundWorker isn't even running when this happens. The reason I believe it is related to the BackgroundWorker though is because the form only hangs when the BackgroundWorker has been executed since the application was loaded (it only runs when given a certain user input). I pass this thread a List of TreeNodes from a TreeView in my UI through the RunWorkerAsync method, but I only read those nodes in the worker thread..any modifications I make to them is done in the UI thread through the progressChanged event. I do use Thread.Sleep in my worker thread to execute tests at timed intervals (which involves sending messages over a TCP socket, which was not created in the worker thread). I am completely perplexed as to why my application might be hanging. I'm sure I'm doing something 'illegal' somewhere, I just don't know what.

• PyQt4: Scrollbar doesn't show in scrollarea when resizing dockWidget

  I created a python test program (Test_InfoPanel.py) that has MainWindow with dockWidget, and within it, a tabWidget with scrollArea widget. However, when I resize the MainWindow, the vertical scrollbar doesn't auto-appear when the Similarly, when I undock the dockWidget & resize, the vertical scrollbar doesn't auto-appear. Pls help! Somehow there's an offset. This doesn't seem to be a problem if the mainWindow is a QtGui.QMainWindow instead of a QtGui.QDialog.
