• Google Chrome 20 fails to start in ubuntu 12.04

  Several days ago Google Chrome stoped working after an update. If I start it in the terminal I can see the following output: [6:6:4528137750:FATAL:sandbox_init_linux.cc(378)] prctl(PR_SET_NO_NEW_PRIVS) failed: Invalid argument Any idea how to solve this? Chrome version: 20.0.1132.47 Ubuntu: 12.04 x64 Kernel: 3.2.0-21-generic #34-Ubuntu EDIT: It is possible to start chrome with --no-sandbox switch.

• Thin configuration doesn't start on boot, but they do on manual start [migrated]

  I have some thin config files (generated with sudo thin install) which are slightly modified (only paths where they're located). I can start them just fine with /etc/init.d/thin start, but if the server is restarted, they're not auto started. I issued the update-rc.d thin defaults command to make it run on startup, but no luck yet. This server is running Ubuntu 12.04.1 32-bit, Ruby 1.9.3p194, MongoDB 2.2.0.

  Is there a way to specify a job that runs every 5 minutes between some start time and some end time on business days in a crontab? Update I think it's relevant that my start and end times are not at round hours. So, specifying 9-5 in the hour column isn't enough. I want 9:30-17:30.

  Hi, am trying to perform an update on multiple site that use an open source CMS but untaring a patch file in each sites httpdocs directory. My plan was to perform a find for the patch file then untar using the following command: find . -name "patchfile.tar.gz" -exec tar -xzvf {} \; -print but it doesnt seem to work successfully anyone have any ideas as to why not?   Does anyone know where to find various arguments for msi's, such as installing/running as administrator, or restart after installation. I am trying to push out an msi update through group policy, but after testing the msi I found out that it needs to be run as administrator to install, and that for it to begin working fully the computer needs to be rebooted. A closely related question from 2011: Are there any extensions or tricks to reopen several closed tabs in Safari Update Safari is now at 6.0.2: having the ability to re-open multiple closed tabs would still very much improve usability (i.e. not having to go searching the History). • VirtualBox running Ubuntu 11.10 in Win7 is suddenly way too slow

  For two months I've been running Ubuntu 11.10 64bits in VirtualBox 4.1.12r77245 but today everything has been really slow, freezing all the time. I've had to restart the VM about 7 times already because Ubuntu just freezed in the middle of a task. I'm using my laptop, it's a LG P420 i5 with 4gb ram. I don't know if it could be an update of Ubuntu or VB, but I really need it to work. Any guesses? Thanks in advance

• Is it possible to upgrade from a clean install in Windows 8?

  Does Windows 8 support upgrading from a clean install. For example, buying the upgrade key and entering it on a clear install? Or is it functionally necissary to have the version you are upgrading from installed on the computer. The former was the case with Windows 7, but I recal Windows 2000 needed the an installed copy before an update would proceed. I currently have a linux setup and I have the liceanse for Windows 7, but I don't want to have to downoad two 4 GB isos.

• Can you password protect access to a directory (to local and networked PCs) in Windows XP Pro?

  I could just compress the directory as a .zip file w/ a password (which I think would just look like a compressed folder w/ a password) but I'd like something with less overhead (i.e., none of the decompression, etc.) Any ideas? Clarification/update: I'd like to have anyone be able to access it from another computer if they know the password. I.e., I don't want them to have to log in as a different user, etc., but, rather just enter a password.

• Updating Dell Vostro 3700 (Nvidia GeForce GT330M) display driver?

  I've bought this laptop "Dell Vostro 3700", having inside an Intel integrated graphic card and an Nvidia GeForce GT330M. Depending on energy saving mode it switches between the two video cards. When I try to update the video driver (now version 189.99 on Windows 7 64-bit) with that found on Nvidia site an error message say that it cannot find compatible graphic hardware. Dell doesn't provide a newer driver version. Has anyone solved the same problem?

The SVN port is closed to the WAN but available via our LAN and we have a VPN setup locally. Is it difficult to setup the remote server to use VPN to connect to the remote SVN server and update code?   I have installed vmware toolbox in ubuntu (guest OS). I tried to share a location from the settings of the virtual machine. But when I click Ok, the following error in thrown in the host (Win 7) OS. "Unable to update run-time folder sharing status: Unknown error." The location is not showing up in /mnt/ What could be the reason? P.S I have vmhgfs process running in my Ubuntu VM. I was following this method.

• Thunderbird: where have the folder view switching arrows gone?

  The folder pane in Thunderbird used to have a left and right arrow that allowed switching between the folders displayed. However, since a week or so, the arrows are gone (update? miss-clicked something?) As I use them several times a day: how can I get the arrows back? I have Thunderbird 8.0. Note: I know, switching is also accessible via the menu bar View Folders, but this is too much clicks for me.

• Lenovo W500 keyboards locks when connecting to external screen

  I have a Lenovo W500, which has dual boot. When I boot into Windows 2008 R2 and connect to an external screen or projector, the keyboard locks. Sometimes it is just a few of the keys, sometimes keys start different programs. I do not have this problem if I boot with windows 7. I have run windows update, but it did not help.

• Sync folder outside SkyDrive on OS X

  After the recent 25 GB update, I wanted to sync my pictures with SkyDrive as I finally have enough space (My almost 10 GB Dropbox is full with other data and I need more than 10 GB for my pictures alone). Anyway, the symlink (ln -s) option is not really working as it just creates an alias inside the skydrive which is not even synchronised. Is there any other option or do I have to live with moving the pictures folder into SkyDrive (which I wouldn't really want to do).

• Browser Install with Bookmarks

  Goal: Install firefox and chrome with a default set of bookmarks on Windows 7 x86. The immediate need is for freshly imaged machines to have bookmarks. So I'm looking for an msi /flag or something to either import bookmarks for a file or import settings from IE. Another possibility it seems is push installers/import actions from GPO on the domain. Seems like this might be best since if stuff changes in the future I can update as needed. I'm open to other options as well.
