• Holding value in collection

  I have a application which is on timesheet. I have total of 54 columns out of which 10 columns are visible rest invisible. First 3 columns are Project, MileStone and Classes. Rest are Sun- Sat work hrs. Now I have a column named 'taskid' as SunTaskID,MonTaskID and so on till SatTaskID for holding each days taskid. Now on the selection of SunHrs (Sunday's Work Hrs), i retrieve that days taskid and on the basis of task id i retrieve attachments which is displayed under a listbox. Now the problem is that since a day can have multiple attachments and a user can attach multiple attachments at time. He can enter values from grid to. Grid cells are editable. I am using BindingList(of TaskClass) in VB.Net for binding grid. I have total 54 properties n my task class. So i want to what property do i need to hod each days attachment and in what way. Earlier I tried Dictionary. But i was not aware of its usage as a property so i gave. Then prepared a separate class for attachment but, it was difficult to synchronize the existing attachments with taskid...

• c# webbrowser | pushed realtime quotes

  Hi, I am programmer and share trader. Before I have written a day trading application. Until last week it was possible to fetch realtime quotes from http://aktien.boerse.de/aktien_startseite.php?view=2&order=name%20asc&liste=prime&page=0 . Every time the site was surfed the quotes had changed. The HTML contents could then be decoded with regular expressions (regex). Problem They have stopped this service by today. Now the quotes are not realtime when surfing on the page. The only way to get stock quotes now is to use pushed quotes "Push starten"-Button. However I do not know how to basically fetch them in C#. When I create a webbrowser element the only way which I know to get the push quotes out of it is to give the webbrowser element the focus send key ctrl+A and ctrl+C and insert the data some where for decoding. This is not desired since the control is moved away from the user and in case some other control is clicked during the process this may result in unexpected behaviour. Question So is there a proper way to decode push stock quotes in C#? Thanks a lot in advance, --eric

• Tips on managing dependencies for a release?

  Our system comprises many .NET websites, class libraries, and a MSSQL database. We use SVN for source control and TeamCity to automatically build to a Test server. Our team is normally working on 4 or 5 projects at a time. We try to lump many changes into a largish rollout every 2-4 weeks. My problem is with keeping track of all the dependencies for a rollout. Example: Website A cannot go live until we've rolled out Branch X of Class library B, built in turn against the Trunk of Class library C, which needs Config Updates Y and Z and Database Update D, which needs Migration Script E... It gets even more complex - like making sure each developer's project is actually compatible with the others and are building against the same versions. Yes, this is a management issue as much as a technical issue. Currently our non-optimal solution is: a whiteboard listing features that haven't gone live yet relying on our memory and intuition when planning the rollout, until we're pretty sure we've thought of everything... a dry-run on our Staging environment. It's a good indication but we're often not sure if Staging is 100% in sync with Live - part of the problem I'm hoping to solve. some amount of winging it on rollout day. So far so good, minus a few close calls. But as our system grows, I'd like a more scientific release management system allowing for more flexibility, like being able to roll out a single change or bugfix on it's own, safe in the knowledge that it won't break anything else. I'm guessing the best solution involves some sort of version numbering system, and perhaps using a project management tool. We're a start-up, so we're not too hot on religiously sticking to rigid processes, but we're happy to start, providing it doesn't add more overhead than it's worth. I'd love to hear advice from other teams who have solved this problem.

• iPhone OpenGL and NSTimer issues

  I have an NSTimer that runs at 60hz. With an OpenGL scene loaded and rendering, my game can get 60fps, solid, all day long.. Then if I go and recompile the app, or reload it, it will get 40fps. Same resources loaded. I've been running into this problem for years, and I just want to know why. It's crazy, and I want to know if I should just abandon this stupid Timer. Conditions are not different on my 3GS between loads. It will just get 40fps sometimes. Obviously the clockrate is not different between loads, so the performance figures should be constant given a constant scene. Here is a log of my framerates: A good load: :-) FrameRate: 61 FrameRate: 61 FrameRate: 61 FrameRate: 60 FrameRate: 60 FrameRate: 61 FrameRate: 60 FrameRate: 60 FrameRate: 61 FrameRate: 60 FrameRate: 61 Now, I'll go ahead and do nothing, recompile, and run: FrameRate: 43 FrameRate: 50 FrameRate: 45 FrameRate: 48 FrameRate: 40 FrameRate: 45 FrameRate: 42 FrameRate: 41 FrameRate: 42 FrameRate: 44 FrameRate: 41 FrameRate: 46 ^- Massive difference visually. What the flying heck could cause this? SAME area of the scene, SAME camera setup. No variables are different.

• Rotating an object in OpenGL ES for iPhone [translate to origin --> rotate --> translate back is not

  I recently started working with OpenGL ES for the iPhone, and I am having a bit of trouble with it. I want to be able to rotate an object with your fingers. My problem is that I have my object placed at (0, 0, -3), and I would like to rotate it about its center. I know that I need to translate back to the origin, rotate, and then bring it back to the original place. I think I am facing a problem because I am using a matrix to keep track (?) of all of my rotations/translation/scaling etc, and I think it may be combining the operations in a way that order is not even considered (so the two translations would cancel each other). I just started learning OpenGL a day ago and am a complete newbie, so my assumption may be wrong. • ActionScript 3.0: placing code on stage/MC timelines a la AS2 instead of in classes

  I'm aware that ActionScript 3.0 is designed from the ground up to be a largely object-oriented language and using it means less or even no timeline code in Flash documents. I'm quite experienced with OOP and am comfortable writing classes. However, since I mostly use Flash for animations, I hardly ever need to write ActionScript code other than for preloaders, subtitles, quality controls, website links and so on. In fact, I still set my Flash movies to use AS2 to this day because I'm used to gotoAndPlay()/gotoAndStop(), AS2 preloaders, subtitles, quality controls and even getURL(). Of course, I really want to move on now that practically everyone's on Flash Player 9 or 10 and now that I've dabbled with other OO languages like Java, C# and Objective-C too. I'm a complete newcomer to AS3 and am not very learned with AS2 either. Considering my current use of ActionScript, are there any cases where it's still OK to use very simple AS3 code in the timeline instead of moving code to a class, especially since moving to a class might mean unnecessarily increasing the number of LOC from 4 to 40? (Heck, is the latter case ('instead of ...') even a valid concern at all?)

• Possible to recover mysql root pass with sudo server access?

  I've inherited development for a website on vps hosting, and have login info for a user with sudo privileges, but don't have the password for the mysql root user. After digging around a little, it looks like the only way to fix this is to stop mysql (something like this: http://waoewaoe.wordpress.com/2010/02/03/recover-reset-mysql-root-password/). But because the website it's serving is currently in production, I'm hoping you guys can enlighten me to any potential consequences (or let me know if there's typically a file where the password would be accessible). a) during the time mysql is stopped, information in the database won't be accessible, right -- even by other users? b) will resetting the root password have any impact on other users after mysql has restarted? Will their username/passwords still be valid? The current application is using an account with limited privileges to read/write to the database, and while 5min downtime in the middle of the night would probably go unnoticed, half a day while I tie up loose ends/figure out what I screwed up will land in me hot water. • sfJQueryUIPlugin: No Picker for new records

  Everyday is a new day with Symfony, but I'm loving it! This morning I installed the sfJQueryUIPlugin. It has very little dependencies & accepts themeRoller styles. However, it has 2 issues: [Feature_Request] There is no way to specify the year range. By default, it shows a 20 year range around the year in the field value. eg. if field value is 1993-01-20, the range will be 1983 to 2003. ??? Has anyone found a way out??? The DatePicker does not appear when the field is empty, Thus it does not show up during new record creation. To solve this, I tried setting up the default value in the date input field (which now appears as a text input) using $this->setDefault('date_of_birth',date('Y-m-d')); ??? Is anybody facing this problem of picker now available during new record creation ??? ??? Also is it the right way to set default value ??? Thanks in advance.

  Where at all did I say ANYTHING about organizing some kind of anti-government activity? Nowhere. I do not give a flying fuck about America in case you hadn't realized, I'm talking about what I'm going to do when Jesus Christ returns. Besides, why would I make it easy for them to throw me in a black site prison? Use common sense, sheeple. In the end I guess it doesn't matter anyways, since I do not recognize the government as my ultimate authority. Police/Army/Whatever-- funny outfits and a shiny badge don't make you better than me. Allah will do away with your kind. However, as long as they're with me (as they semi-currently are), we have no problems. I fear the government will have other plans to control the population when things start to further decline, and that is when they will run into problems with me and mine, and probably a large percentage of the public. You'd have to be a fucking fool to think we'd fall into anarchy immediately, given the vast resources and blind loyalty of this country. Saying there are practical limits to free speech for anything I have said in this thread is not only ignorant, it is unpatriotic. I should be being celebrated as the modern day Paul Revere for warning you people about our impending doom. You would do well to study the foundations of this country. Nothing I have said is treasonous at all. Besides, the DoD knows I'm harmless until shit pops off, they have bigger fish to fry right now, go forward. Keep in mind, I don't personally have to do anything to overthrow the government. I just said, I would not advocate for any paramilitary organizations at this time, only if/after we dissolve into (more) tyranny. I am not a terrorist, like some soldiers in Iraq. The machine is doing a great job of ruining itself, while I get to comfortably laugh at it on the nightly news knowing that I'm ready for it to shut down.

  Hi Everyone, I'm new to Qt and I'm learning something new every day. Currently, I'm developing a small application for my Nokia N900 in my free time. Everything is fine, I am able to compile and run Maemo applications on the device. I've just learned about the foreach keyword in Qt. (I know it is not in C++, so I didn't think about it until I accidentally stumbled upon a Qt doc that mentioned it.) So, I decided to change my quite annoying and unreadable loops to foreach, but I failed with this: QDomNodeList list = doc.lastChild().childNodes().at(1).firstChild().childNodes(); for (int x = 0; x < list.count(); x++) { QDomElement node = list.at(x).toElement(); // Do something with node } This is how I tried: foreach (QDomElement node, doc.lastChild().childNodes().at(1).firstChild().childNodes()) { // Do something with node } For some reason the above code doesn't even compile. I get cryptic error messages from the compiler. Could someone please explain to me how to get it right? If the foreach loop doesn't support QDomNodeList, is there a way of handling XML files that do support foreach?

If I convert the dates using as.date to variable x, and do the GAM plot, I get an error. It works fine with the raw day numbers. • Does Team Foundation support cross-app workitem groups?

  We're currently using Visual Source Safe and BugNet and looking to migrate up and away from VSS. I've been pushing for either SVN ( a) we're an ASP.NET shop, b) DCVS is not an option - no matter how much I like Hg ;-) or TFS. Well we finally got a new dev server, so I talked the boss into installing TFS on it (30 day trial). In the meantime, we had started experimenting with FogBugz. We really like FogBugz for about 80% of what we want to do, and the other 20% is probably stuff that we don't know what we want. I'm pushing for TFS because it allows for IDE integrated (mostly) everything. He's pushing for FogBugz because he can group tasks by customer and then project and manage everything from one dashboard. (which means I lose most of my IDE integration - no huge loss I agree) Does TFS support a single dashboard that would span all our solutions (in this case each solution is a full app that we sell to a vertical market client) and let us assign workitems to each solution-spanning-group? So for instance I think we envision something like this: PROJECT1 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT2 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT3 - Bugtracker and workitems CUSTOMER1 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT2) CUSTOMER2 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT2, PROJECT3) CUSTOMER3 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT3) Hopefully that makes sense. naturally it's more complicated than this but I think I've given the details enough to paint a picture. I offered the option of creating dummy projects per customer but he doesn't like that and it doesn't really give us the single dashboard view that we're hoping to end up with (and that FogBugz as we've sorta implmented things does do now). Has anyone got a good suggestion on a management app that would accomplish what both of us want?

• How to find Part Time development/IT work?

  I've been working in the IT field now for 10 years. Originally trained as an Engineer, started out with C++ and have been a .Net specialist since beta. Currently seconded to a major city and working in the finance industry as freelance, I really feel like i've hit the glass ceiling. Have been contracting now for 5 years as the company politics and frustration of not being promoted and poor pay rises for excellent work but during the last decade of corporate cost cutting took its toll on my morale. Freelance made all the difference and i've had a very decorated career for good clients. What any Engineering student could ever dream of when starting out. The problem is, it doesn't particularly make me happy. It's good work, and i enjoy the problem solving aspects of it and having something to do each day. However there is always a large overhead of non-technical work and dealing with poor managers etc. I guess the Engineering was always a bit of a mistake i made the best out of, and now having 10 years behind a computer hasn't done wonders for my health or eye sight. In a nutshell i am in the process of retraining as a therapist and would like to open my own clinic. However, never having done this before, the fast pace IT skills outdate and the fact that all my experience and skills are non transferrable, i am a little worried. Any ideas how i can find part time IT work as i build up my business? (it's incredibly hard to find freelancing work that doesn't require long hours and overtime). Or other ideas to make the transition easier, and perhaps backout if it financially doesn't work/or i have enough marketing skills? I'd be interested to hear from people who have made a similar transition, successfully or unsuccessfully. Many thanks

• how to push different local git branches to heroku/master

  Heroku has a policy of ignoring all branches but 'master'. While I'm sure Heroku's designers have excellent reasons for for this policy (I'm guessing for storage and performance optimization), the consequence to me as a developer is that whatever local topic branch I may be working on, I would like an easy way to switch Heroku's master to that local topic branch and do a "git push heroku -f" to over-write master on Heroku. What I got from reading the "Pushing Refspecs" section of http://progit.org/book/ch9-5.html is git push -f heroku local-topic-branch:refs/heads/master What I'd really like is a way to set this up in the config file so that "git push heroku" always does the above, replacing local-topic-branch with the name of whatever my current branch happens to be. If anyone knows how to accomplish that, please let me know! The caveat for this, of course, is that this is only sensible if I am the only one who can push to that Heroku app/repository. A test or QA team might manage such a repository to try out different candidate branches, but they would have to coordinate so that they all agree on what branch they are pushing to it on any given day. Needless to say, it would also be a very good idea to have a separate remote repository (like Github) without this restriction for backing everything up to. I'd call that one "origin" and use "heroku" for Heroku so that "git push" always backs up everything to origin, and "git push heroku" pushes whatever branch I'm currently on to Heroku's master branch, overwriting it if necessary. Can anybody tell me if this would work? [remote "heroku"] url = [email protected]:my-app.git push = +refs/heads/*:refs/heads/master I'd like to hear from someone more experienced before I begin to experiment, although I suppose I could create a dummy app on Heroku and experiment with that.   Good day. I'm using Doctrine as ORM for my Zend Framework project. This is the first time I use it. I've followed the ZendCasts Doctrine chapters, and everything works for me, but I needed to perform some profiling; There is a Doctrine_Connection_Profiler class that should be used to profile the Doctrine Model internal queries, but I've tried to use it without success. I always get a "PDOException: You cannot serialize or unserialize PDOStatement instances" exception when I perform my Unit Tests. Here is a example: $conn = Doctrine_Manager::connection($doctrineConfig['dsn'], $dbconfname); ... if( APPLICATION_ENV != 'production'){ $obj_doctrine_profiler = new Doctrine_Connection_Profiler(); $conn->setListener($obj_doctrine_profiler); } All of my Unit Tests works if I comment/delete the $conn->setListener($obj_doctrine_profiler); line. This code block is located in my Bootstrap.php class; the weird thing is, the web application works just fine even with the mentioned code line. • SmartGwt DateItem useTextField=true - how to make text entry field UNeditable

  Since I can't figure out how to solve my problem presented here I'm thinking for the moment at a temporary solution. I have a smartgwt DateItem widget: DateItem date = new DateItem("Adate"); date.setWidth(120); date.setWrapTitle(false); date.setAttribute("useTextField", true); date.setAttribute("inputFormat", "yyyy/MM/dd"); date.setAttribute("displayFormat", "toJapanShortDate"); Because the attribute useTextField is set to true we can see the text entry field. How can I make this text entry field to be uneditable. Actually I want to have only the possibility to choose the date from calendar and not to change it manually. Resolved - the issue exposed above - thanks to @RAS user. TextItem textItem = new TextItem(); textItem.setAttribute("readOnly", true); date.setAttribute("textFieldProperties", textItem); Related link But I have now another issue: The date chooser won't show the date on the text field but Today's date. For example, enter 30/05/2009 on the text field, go to another field, then come back on click on the date chooser and the selected day will be Today's date instead on June 30th, 2009. Which is the reason for this? Can this be solved? Also let's say I let to the user to opportunity to manually modify the date - can I put some validators on it? Thank you.

• Ideas for a rudimentary software licensing implementation

  I'm trying to decide how to implement a very basic licensing solution for some software I wrote. The software will run on my (hypothetical) clients' machines, with the idea being that the software will immediately quit (with a friendly message) if the client is running it on greater-than-n machines (n being the number of licenses they have purchased). Additionally, the clients are non-tech-savvy to the point where "basic" is good enough. Here is my current design, but given that I have little to no experience in the topic, I wanted to ask SO before I started any development on it: A remote server hosts a MySQL database with a table containing two columns: client-key and license quantity The client-side application connects to the MySQL database on startup, offering it's client-key that I've put into a properties file packaged into the distribution (I would create a new distribution for each new client) Chances are, I'll need a second table to store validation history, so that with some short logic, the software can decide if it can be run on a given machine (maybe a sliding window of n machines using the software per 24 hours) If the software cannot establish a connection to the MySQL database, or decides that it's over the n allowed machines per day, it closes The connection info for the remote server hosting the MySQL database should be hard-coded into the app? (That sounds like a bad idea, but otherwise they could point it to some other always-validates-to-success server) I think that about covers my initial design. The intent being that while it certainly isn't full-proof, I think I've made it at least somewhat difficult to create an easily-sharable cracking solution. Also, I can easily adjust the license amount for a given client/key pair. I gotta figure this has been done a million times before, so tell me about a better solution that's just as simple to implement and provides the same (low) amount of security. In the event that external libraries are used, I prefer Java, as that's what the software has been written in.

• Optimize GROUP BY&ORDER BY query

  I have a web page where users upload&watch videos. Last week I asked what is the best way to track video views so that I could display the most viewed videos this week (videos from all dates). Now I need some help optimizing a query with which I get the videos from the database. The relevant tables are this: video (~239371 rows) VID(int), UID(int), title(varchar), status(enum), type(varchar), is_duplicate(enum), is_adult(enum), channel_id(tinyint) signup (~115440 rows) UID(int), username(varchar) videos_views (~359202 rows after 6 days of collecting data, so this table will grow rapidly) videos_id(int), views_date(date), num_of_views(int) The table video holds the videos, signup hodls users and videos_views holds data about video views (each video can have one row per day in that table). I have this query that does the trick, but takes ~10s to execute, and I imagine this will only get worse over time as the videos_views table grows in size. What's more, Journey.id doesn't exists yet. I didn't try django.db.models.signals.post_save but suppose it will fail because Journey.route is empty as well (when does this get filled anyway?). I see a solution in django.db.models.signals.m2m_changed but there are a lot of steps (thousands), and I want to avoid to perform an operation for every single of them.

• Nested Groups in Regex

  I'm constructing a regex that is looking for dates. I would like to return the date found and the sentence it was found in. In the code below, the strings on either side of date_string should check for the conditions of a sentence. For your sake, I've omitted the regex for date_string - sufficed to say, it works for picking out dates. While the inside of date_string isn't important, it is grouped as one entire regex. "((?:[^.|?|!]*)"+date_string+"(?:[^.|?|!]*[.|?|!]\s*))" The problem is that date_string is only matching the last number of any given date, presumably because the regex in front of date_string is matching too far and overrunning the date regex. For example, if I say "Independence Day is July 4.", I will get the sentence and 4, even though it should match 'July 4'. In case you're wondering, my regex inside date_string are ordered in such a way that 'July 4' should match first. Is there any way to do this all in one regex? Or do I need to split it up somehow (i.e. split up all text into sentences, and then check each sentence)?
