Hello All, I am trying to learn EF 4 and its code only features. Does there exists a method to render an object using DebuggerDisplayAttribute

I have a number of classes that are decorated with DebuggerDisplayAttribute. I want to be able to add trace statements to Unit Tests that will display instances of these classes. Does there exist a method in the .NET Framework that will display an object formatted using DebuggerDisplayAttribute (or fall back to using .ToString() if no DebuggerDisplayAttribute is defined)?

Is there a way to force Report Builder to use "WITH (NOLOCK)" in the queries it generates?

Hi. At work, users are very happy to generate their own reports using Reporting Services' Report Builder. But, alas, the queries it generates are very inefficient, and they don't use "WITH (NOLOCK)" - slowing down things for everyone. These are reports that really do need to be run using latest data - can't be offloaded to the reporting server. And since they query very specific, detailed data, hypercubes are of no use here. So the question is: Is there a way to configure Report Builder's Data Models so the queries it generates always use "WITH (NOLOCK)" when querying a table?

Dynamic Views based on view models

I have an asp.net mvc 2 app. I need to display the same page to each user. But each user has different rights to the data. IE some can see but not edit some data, some cannot edit nor see the data. Ideally data that cannot be seen nor edited is whitespace on the view. For security reasons I want my viewmodels to be sparse as possible. By that I mean if a field cannot be seen nor edited , that field should not be on the viewmodel. Obviously I can write view for each view model but that seems wasteful. So here is my idea/wishlist Can I decorate the viewmodel with attributes and hook into a pre render event of the html helpers and tell it to do   instead??? Can I have the html helpers output   for entries not found on the viewmodel?? or can I easily convert a view built into code then programaticlly build the markup and then put into the render engine to be processed and viewd as html on client side??

How to get two TD cells side by side WITHOUT using css

Hi, in the following HTML snippet, I would like the two cells be placed side by side with NO spaces between them; without using css if possible. How to change the opacity (alpha, transparency) of an element in a canvas element after it has been

Using the HTML5 <canvas> element, I would like to load an image file (PNG, JPEG, etc.), draw it to the canvas completely transparently, and then fade it in. I have figured out how to load the image and draw it to the canvas, but I don't know how to change its opacity once it as been drawn. How do I find where a ruby method is declared?

I have a ruby method (deactivate!) that is on an activeRecord class. However, I can't seem to find where that method is declared. There have been numerous developers on this project, so it could be anywhere. There is a deactivate! on an unrelated class, but it doesn't seem to get called. Any ideas how to find all the superclasses for an instace, or where to find the code for deactivate!?

IE8 disappearing image bug

In IE8 (& maybe others), when I leave my page to go to another tab in IE and then come back to my page's tab, each time the cursor runs over an image it disappears until I refresh the page. I've heard of disappearing image bugs, but I couldn't find anything on this particular case, especially given this isn't a weird pre-IE8 bug. PHP download script for "processes running limited" hosting (eg. hostgator)

I am currently with HostGator on a shared hosting plan. I have a new website I'm trying to setup with a download.php script. The issue I am having is that, while someone is "downloading" a file through the download.php script, it counts as a "process" and my hosting plan limits the processes that can be running at the same time to 25 at present. My question is, what options do I have? a). Move to new web hosting that doesn't limit processes running. b). Change the way files are downloaded. I would like to choose option b), however it occurs to me that I need to have the file accessed through PHP in order to restrict the number of downloads and to track download statistics, as well as protecting against hotlinking. If there was a way to have the PHP script send them the file so that the process doesn't need to be running the whole time the file is being downloaded, I would eliminate the problem, however to my knowledge that isn't possible. Should I make the move to a new hosting company? I really enjoy HostGator as they have provided the best hosting experience for me thus far, except for this one issue of course, so I don't want to go on the hunt for another decent shared hosting company that doesn't limit processes running, only to find out there is another restriction or "catch" to the shared hosting deal.

Spring security with database and multiple roles?

I'm trying to make an application using spring 3.0. Now I've decided to try my hand at spring-security and hibernate. I've already seen that it's possible to back it with a databasem and I've seen a reference to defining your own queries? Now the problem I have is that the tutorials I've been finding aren't too clear and that they assume that a user can only have one role. I want to give some users multiple roles. So I was thinking about a database scheme along the lines of: User: user_id username password registrationDate User_Role: user_id role_id Role: role_id rolename Now I was wondering if anyone had some pointers to some usefull tutorials/advice/comments.

django flatpage redirects

I want to make sure all of my flatpages have the "www" subdomain and redirect to it if they don't. I've looked at some middlewares that redirect to www, but 1. they usually redirect all urls to www and 2. the ones I've found don't work with flatpages. I don't want all of my site urls to redirect to include the www subdomian, just the flatpages. Anyone know how I should go about doing this? Thanks

Zoom controls not showing when using a MapView with fill_parent

Hey everyone I am working on an applications and I am using the built in zoom controls. When using a specific size I can see the zoom controls. When using fill_parent the zoom controls are not visible. How it is setup is a mapview inside of a frame layout(also using fill parent for the height and width but with an offset down the screen. The only thing I can think of is the fill parent issue is with the framelayout and the zoom controls are off the screen. Sorry if this is confusing, I confused myself writing it. Thanks in advance

Font display in iPhone

I develop a simple mobile page; the font displayed is very samll although I set it as 33px and the screen resolution for iPhone is 320 X 480. Does anyone know why it is so small? Or the screen resolution is not 320 X 480 since it can be zoomed. Then how do I make the font to be adapted to the resolution automatically?

Implementing "select distinct ... from ..." over a list of Python dictionaries

Hi folks, Here is my problem: I have a list of Python dictionaries of identical form, that are meant to represent the rows of a table in a database, something like this: [ {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '8th', ... }, {'ID': 1, 'NAME': 'Joe', 'CLASS': '11th', ... }, ...] I have already written a function to get the unique values for a particular field in this list of dictionaries, which was trivial. That function implements something like: select distinct NAME from ... However, I want to be able to get the list of multiple unique fields, similar to: select distinct NAME, CLASS from ... Which I am finding to be non-trivial. Is there an algorithm or Python included function to help me with this quandry? Before you suggest loading the CSV files into a SQLite table or something similar, that is not an option for the environment I'm in, and trust me, that was my first thought.

scrollTop issue on constant moving div

I have a FLASH object that I mouse over which in turn calls the following function to scroll a div. It works but due to the constant high speed scrolling it would throw up NULLS. This in turn caused IE to open a new page through my FLASH ActionScript 2.0 I found that by creating the SC variable and throwing in the condition "if it exists" keeps FLASH from causing IE to open a new page. However, it still creates an error behind the scenes of "Object Required". Although my application works I do not want load up memory with errors. Select list shrinks in size horizontally when empty

Hello, I have two select list boxes and i can move items back and forth between them using the forward (--) and backward (<--) button. However, if there are no items in a select list, it shrinks in size horizontally. Any way to keep the select list a fixed size, irrespective of whether it contains any options or not ?
