local vs core contoller

Hi, I am adding new column and action in the local admin app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product/Grid.php which works fine, however. The local controller/app/code/local/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php is not being used or is not overloading the admin one /app/code/core/Mage/Adminhtml/Block/Catalog/Product.php. This is almost fresh install of Magento 1.4.0.1. I am the only one working, so i know it is not overloaded by some custom controller. I have disabled all custom modules. I have rolled back most of my changes. I have checked /etc/Modules/Mage_Catalog.xml. Refreshed cache all possible ways, loged in and out. Nothing....still using the core contoller copy. why? How do you troubleshoot, meaning, at what moment magento decides using between core or local copies? ...its even more strange because it does not parse local Adminhtml config.xml but uses local Adminthml copy of Blocks. Any pointer would help. I would like to keep everything in local code. Thank You, Margots

JQuery DataTables link item

I'm trying to link the items from a specific column, but each one will be linked for a different id from the json string. Unfortunately I can't find a way to do this using the API (I know there is a lot of ways to do that without using the API ), but I'm looking for a way to link a item from a column (each one with a link for a specific id). So here is my code, I use getJSON to get the JSON from the server, and I load the data from this JSON to the table like this: $.getJSON("/method/from/server/", function(data) { var total = 0; $("#table_body").empty(); var oTable = $('#mytable').dataTable( { "sPaginationType" : "full_numbers", "aaSorting": [[ 0, "asc" ]] }); oTable.fnClearTable(); $.each(data, function(i, item) { oTable.fnAddData( [ item.contact_name, item.contact_email ] ); }); }); What I want to do, is for each row, link the contact_name to its id, which is also in the JSON, and can be accessed inside this $.each loop by using item.contact_id. Why do you have to call URLConnection#getInputStream to be able to write out to URLConnection#getOutputStream?

I'm trying to write out to URLConnection#getOutputStream, however, no data is actually sent until I call URLConnection#getInputStream. Even if I set URLConnnection#doInput to false, it still will not send. Does anyone know why this is? There's nothing in the API documentation that describes this. Get category count for a category where only the child categories have products

I'm having problems getting a count for a category collection that will include products in any of that categories children. However I don't want just a full count I want to filter that count by a product collection (so only include products in the count that appear in the product collection)... Any suggestions? In the form we have this where IntaktsBudgetsType is a poorly named enum that only specifies wether to populate the datagridview after customer or product (You do the budgeting either after product or customer) private void UpdateGridView() { bs = new BindingSource(); bs.DataSource = intaktsbudget.GetDataSource(this.comboBoxKundID.Text, IntaktsBudgetsType.PerKund); dataGridViewIntaktPerKund.DataSource = bs; } This populates the datagridview with a database view that merge the product, budget and customer tables. The logic has the following method to get the correct set of IList from the repository which only does GetTable<T>.ToList<T> public IEnumerable<IntaktsBudgetView> GetDataSource(string id, IntaktsBudgetsType type) { IList<IntaktsBudgetView> list = repository.SelectTable<IntaktsBudgetView>(); switch (type) { case IntaktsBudgetsType.PerKund: return from i in list where i.kundId == id select i; case IntaktsBudgetsType.PerProdukt: return from i in list where i.produktId == id select i; } return null; } Now I don't want to use a database view since that is read-only and I want to be able to perform CRUD actions on the datagridview. I could build a class that acts as a wrapper for the whole thing and bind the different table values to class properties but that doesn't seem quite right since I would have to do this for every single thing that requires "the merge". Something pretty important (and probably basic) is missing the the thought process but after spending a weekend on google and in books I give up and turn to the SO community.

Sort queryset by a generic foreign key (django)?

I am using Django's comment framework which utilizes generic foreign keys. Question: How do I sort a given model's queryset by their comment count using the generic foreign key lookup? Reading the django docs on the subject it says one needs to calculate them not using the aggregation API: Django's database aggregation API doesn't work with a GenericRelation. [...] For now, if you need aggregates on generic relations, you'll need to calculate them without using the aggregation API. The only way I can think of, though, would be to iterate through my queryset, generate a list with content_type and object_id's for each item, then run a second queryset on the Comment model filtering by this list of content_type and object_id ... sort the objects by the count, then re-create a new queryset in this order by pulling the content_object for each comment ... This just seems wrong and I'm not even sure how to pull it off. Ideas? Someone must have done this before. I found this post online but it requires me handwriting SQL -- is that really necessary ?

Implementation help... Subclass NSManagedObject?

I'm working on an app where I have some products that I download in a list. The downloaded products are displayed in a table and each will is showing a detail view with more information. These same products can be saved as a favorite, and for this I am using Core Data. I'd like to be able to re-use a bunch of views for displaying the products, which means the stores object and the downloaded object would have to be the same kind. Now, how would I go about best implementing the objects? Can I make a class such as this: FavoriteProduct : NSManageObject // implementation and then subclass Product : FavoriteProduct // implementation ? The CD class just doesn't give me everything. What would be the best way to merge these two object classes so I have as little work ahead of me in terms of implementing the different views for each object? Basically, I just want to be able to call the same methods, etc. on the Product objects as I would on the ones that are FavoriteProduct objects, and re-use views for both kinds. There's only a bit of difference between the two (one is of course stored as a favorite and has some extra values such as notes, tags, while the Product one doesn't). Thanks in advance

Consequent attribute calculations with a queuing system

For all of the following assume these: rails v3.0 ruby v1.9 resque We have 3 models: Product belongs_to :sku, belongs_to :category Sku has_many :products, belongs_to :category Category has_many :products, has_many :skus When we update the product (let's say we disable it) we need to have some things happen to the relevant sku and category. The same is true for when a sku is updated. The proper way of achieving this is have an after_save on each model that triggers the other models' update events. example: products.each(&:disable!) # after_save triggers self.sku.products_updated # and self.category.products_updated (self is product) Now if we have 5000 products we are in for a treat. The same category might get updated hundreds of times and hog the database while doing so. We also have a nice queueing system, so the more realisting way of updating products would be products.each(&:queue_disable!) which would simply toss 5000 new tasks to the working queue. The problem of 5000 category updates still exists though. Is there a way to avoid all those updates on the db? How can we concatenate all the category.products_updated for each category in the queue?

Unit testing a 'legacy' WPF Application

The product I have been working on has been in development for the past six years. It started as a generic data entry portal into an insanely complex part WPF/part legacy application. The system has been developed for all these years without a single Unit test in its fold. Now, the point has been raised for a comprehensive unit testing framework. I have been recruited recently to work on this product and have been tasked to get the 'Testing' in order. Since the team that worked on the product for the last six years adopted 'Agile', the project lacks any documentation of the business rules or any design documents. I have been trying to write unit tests for some of the modules. But I am not sure what to Mock, how to setup my Test fixture and eventually what to Test for, since a casual glance of the methods does not reveal its intentions. Also, it has come to my attention that the code was not developed with a particular methodology in mind. Given the situation, I was wondering if the good people of Stackoverflow could provide me with some advise on how to salvage this situation. I have heard about the book 'Working with Legacy Code' that has something to say about this general situation but I was thinking about getting some pointers from individuals who have encountered similar situations within the technology stack(C#,VB,C++,.NET 3.5,WCF,SQL Server 2005).

How to get a category listing from Magento?

I want to create a page in Magento that shows a visual representation of the categories.. example CATEGORY product 1 product 2 ANOTHER CATEGORY product 3 My problem is, their database is organised very differently to what I've seen in the past. They have tables dedicated to data types like varchar, int, etc. I assume this is for performance or similiar. I haven't found a way to use MySQL to query the database and get a list of categories. I'd then like to match these categories to products, to get a listing of products for each category. Unfortunately Magento seems to make this very difficult. Also I have not found a method that will work from within a page block.. I have created showcase.phtml and put it in the XML layout and it displays and runs it's PHP code. I was hoping for something easy like looping through $this-getAllCategories(); and then a nested loop inside with something like $category-getChildProducts(); Can anyone help me? Thank you!

.htaccess file on localhost throwing an error when using a Virtual Host config on my Localhost!!

I am trying to set-up my localhost development server. I have everything working but when I try to add an .htaccess it throws this error: Internal Server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. I dont know exactly why this is, this is pretty much the exact same setup as the other developers machine, but when using my .htaccess file I get that error. .NET remoting: System references wrong .NET dll, but how to cure ?

Question: I defined an interface like below. The problem now is, that when I add the dll (API.dll) as reference in an asp.net project, it references a wrong API.dll, though I referenced the correct dll. In turn, it doesn't find GetLDAPlookup, but there is another method that is not in defined here, but in an older version of API.dll... I rebuilt the dll I referenced, so it is definitely the latest version that I added as reference. Do I have to add another GUID, or something ? What are good examples of perfectly acceptable approaches to development that are NOT test driven development (TDD)?

The TDD cycle is test, code, refactor, (repeat) and then ship. TDD implies development that is driven by testing, specifically that means understanding requirements and then writing tests first before developing or writing code. My natural inclination is a philosophical bias in favor of TDD; I would like to be convinced that there are other approaches that now work well or even better than TDD so I have asked this question. What are examples of perfectly acceptable approaches that NOT test driven development? I can think of plenty approaches that are not TDD but could be a lot more trouble than what they are worth ... it's not moral judgement, it's just that they are cost more than they are worth ... the following are simply examples of things that might be ok as learning exercises, but approaches I'd find to be NOT acceptable in serious production and NOT TDD might include: Inspecting quality into your product -- Focusing efforts on developing a proficiency in testing/QA can be problematic, especially if you don't work on the requirements and development side first ... symptom of this include bug triaging where the developers have so many different bugs to deal with it, it is necessary to employ a form of triage -- each development cycle gets worse and worse, programmers work more and more hours, sleep less and less, struggle to keep going in death march until they are consumed. Superstition ... believing in things that you don't understand -- this would involve borrowing code that you believe has been proven or tested from somewhere, e.g. legacy code, a magic code starter wizard or an open source project, and you go forward hacking up a storm of modifications, sliding FaceBook Connect into your the user interface, inventing some new magic features on the fly (e.g. a mashup using the Twitter API, GoogleMaps API and maybe Zappos API), showing off your cool new "product" to a few people and then writing up a simple "specification" and list of "test cases" and turning that over to Mechanical Turk for testing.

Doing a virus check on a file from a build script

I would like to be be able to invoke a virus check as the final stage of the build process (please don't question why a dev machine would get a virus, it's just a belt-and-braces approach to avoid the risk of getting sued by customers...). Also I'd like the option of having AV on a machine but switching the auto file system protection off (at least for the build directories). What I would like is a generic way of scanning a file using whatever AV system is in place. I'm assuming that there's an Windows API to do this, given that Windows detects the presence of an AV system, and browsers such as Firefox invoke a virus scan whenever a file is downloaded. So what's the API that they're using? There's the Microsoft AntiVirus API but that seems to be specific to Office documents. Does the approach involve using WMI? (and if you can detect the AV provider from there, how do you then invoke it to scan a file?) I know that I could write the script to manually call the AV scanner that I know to be installed, but as an intellectual exercise I'm more interested to know how apps like Firefox are doing this.

(Each of the span3 is suppose to contain a product photo, name, price, etc.) Of course, my aim is that be responsive. So, I might display 20 products, which I'd like to possibly display 5 products per "row" on a wide screen, then 4 products per "row" on a slightly less wide screen, then 3, then 2, then 1. Processing data from an AJAX request

I have a PHP API I'm working with that outputs everything as JSON. I need to call one of the API methods and parse it out using an AJAX request. I am using jQuery (though it shouldn't matter). When I make the request it errors out with a "parsererror" as the textStatus and a "Syntax Error: invalid label" when I make the request. Simplified code: $.ajax ({ type: "POST", url: "http://mydomain.com/api/get/userlist/"+mid, dataType: "json", dataFilter: function(data, type) { /* Here we assume and pray */ users = eval(data); alert(users[1].id); }, success: function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { alert(data.length); // Should be an array, yet is undefined. }, error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown) { alert(textStatus); alert(errorThrown); }, complete: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus) { alert("Done"); } }); If I leave off the eval(data) then everything works fine. Well, except for data still being undefined in success. Note that I'm taking an array of objects in PHP and then passing them out through json_encode. Would that make any difference? There has been no progress made on this. I'm willing to throw more code up if someone believes they can help. This would be easy if all of the information was on the same html page, but I' am trying something that I am new too. So let me show my code... You already know what the rest does, it just passes the JSON to the Donors() function. Loading a view routed by a URL parameter (e.g., /users/:id) in MEAN stack

I am having difficulties with trying to load a user by their id, for some reason my http.get call isn't hitting my controller. I get the following error in the browser console: TypeError: undefined is not a function at new <anonymous> (http://localhost:9000/scripts/controllers/users.js:10:8) Update I've fixed my code up as per comments below, but now my code just enters an infinite loop in the angular users controllers (see code below). I guess it's composition, because orders will be delated after delete of Order, right? My teacher told me that this is association, but I was wondering why it's not a aggregation/composition - he told me that aggregation or composition occur only when one class contains few instances of different class - is that right? I guess not, because e.g. car contains ONE wheel and it's aggregation I guess? What type of relation is that and why? Greetings

Error emailing outgoing sms

Is there anyway to listen for an outbound sms without having to import javax.wireless.messaging? I'm trying to write an app that listens for an sms sent from the device then emails the message of the sms, but I get the error: reference to Message is ambiguous, both class javax.wireless.messaging.Message in javax.wireless.messaging and class net.rim.blackberry.api.mail.Message in net.rim.blackberry.api.mail match I need to import net.rim.blackberry.api.mail.Message in order to sent an email. Is there a way to get around this as it seems that the two packages are clashing. Magento - save quote_address on cart addAction using observer

I am writing a custom Magento module that gives rate quotes (based on an external API) on the product page. After I get the response on the product page, it adds some of the info from the response into the product view's form. The goal is to save the address (as well as some other things, but those can be in the session for now). The address needs to be saved to the quote, so that the checkout (onestepcheckout, free version) will automatically fill those values in (city, state, zip, country, shipping method [of which there are 3]) and load the rate quote via ajax (which it's already doing). I have gone about this by using an Observer, and watching for the cart events. I fill in the address and save it. When I end up on the cart page or checkout page ~4/5 times the data is lost, and the sql table shows that the quote_address is getting save with no address info, even though there is an explicit save. The observer method's I've used are: checkout_cart_update_item_complete checkout_cart_product_add_after The code saving is: (I've tried this with the address, quote and cart all not calling save() with the same results, as well as not calling setQuote() $quote->getShippingAddress() ->setCountryId($params['estimate_to_country']) ->setCity($params['estimate_to_city']) ->setPostcode($params['estimate_to_zip_code']) ->setRegionId($params['estimate_to_state_code']) ->setRegion($params['estimate_to_state']) ->setCollectShippingRates(true) ->setShippingMethod($params['carrier_method']) ->setQuote($quote) ->save(); $quote->getBillingAddress() ->setCountryId($params['estimate_to_country']) ->setCity($params['estimate_to_city']) ->setPostcode($params['estimate_to_zip_code']) ->setRegionId($params['estimate_to_state_code']) ->setRegion($params['estimate_to_state']) ->setCollectShippingRates(true) ->setShippingMethod($params['carrier_method']) ->setQuote($quote) ->save(); $quote->save(); $cart->save(); I imagine there's a good chance this is not the best place to save this info, but I am not quite sure. How to transfer Eclipse workspace and project from Windows to Linux and Mac

We have a a product developed on Windows for years. The product is composed of one Eclipse workspace and about 20 projects. On Windows, we ask every developer check out projects into d:\dev\product folder, and copy a unified Workspace to d:\dev\prod_workspace. This way, whenever a new machine is set, we simply copy files to the same folder, and we can start working immediately. No We need to move our development environment to Linux and Mac. But there's no D:\ on Unix. And home folder for Linux is mostly like /home/username and /Users/username for Mac. We found Eclipse keeps absolute path in workspace when referring to projects, so simply copy workspace over does not work anymore. Even when we manually create/configure workspace on a Linux machine, it still cannot be copied over to another user, because the absolute path is changed. I guess our goal is to allow easy setup of development environment. Do you have any suggestion to move eclipse workspace around? Thanks! Li
