Data flows from industrial machine, setup is fairly simple, but I can't find any good open source examples on parallel port reading for Windows. I have look at many services out there, such as: http://www.backblaze.com/ http://www.crashplan.com/ Those services look very good, and a reasonable price. But I am worried about them because of incidents like this: http://jeffreydonenfeld.com/blog/2011/12/crashplan-online-backup-lost-my-entire-backup-archive/ I am wondering if there is any online back solution that offers a service level agreement (SLA) with compensation for data loss at a reasonable price (under $30 per month). Or is there a good solution that offers a high enough level of redundancy to mitigate the risk? Required: Offsite backup to prevent data loss in terms of fire/theft. Redundancy to protect the backup from corruption. A reasonable cost (< $30 per month). A SLA in case the service provider faults on its agreements.

    Hi Im programming webserver (C), which should send big files. My question is: What are the main differneces in two syscalls: write and sendfile. Does sendfile depends on size of socket system buffer ? I noticed that write often writes less then i requested. For example, if got many requests for one file: should i open it, copy into memory and use 'write', or maybe i can do 'sendfile' for each client ? thx in advance for all answers

    I'm comparing these two Apple laptops: MacBook Pro (13", 2011 model): 2.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache 4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on 2.4GHz configuration MacBook Air (13", 2011 model): 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with 3MB shared L3 cache 4GB of 1333MHz DDR3 onboard memory Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory There's definitely a gap between them in terms of CPU speed and graphics, but what practical difference would this make on a day-to-day basis? On the one hand, I love the sleek, thin appearance of the Air. On the other hand, I don't want a machine that's going to be dog-slow when doing tasks such as running Virtual Machines, dual-booting to Windows and running multiple instances of Visual Studio, and maybe some light gaming. Is there going to be a major difference that makes the MacBook Pro a more attractive purchase?

How do gcnew, __gc, __nogc work with Polymorphism Structs Inner classes Interfaces The "fixed" keyword; does that exist? Compiling DLLs loaded into the kernel with C++/CLI possible? Loaded as device drivers? Invoked by the kernel? What does this mean anyway (i.e. to load something into the kernel exactly; how do I know if it is?)? L"my string" versus "my string"? wchar_t? How many types of chars are there? Are we safe in treating chars as uint32s or what should one treat them as to guarantee language indifference in code?   • Solaris Administration Web GUI?

    I recently installed Solaris 11 x86 text install (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/solaris11/downloads/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen) to be used as a file server running ZFS. I noticed that I'm given the bare minimum in terms of packages. Is there an official oracle web GUI for managing ZFS? I ran a netstat and it doesn't appear to have installed any webserver thats listening. I saw something from a couple years ago, but apparently it's not packaged or maintained anymore (https://blogs.oracle.com/talley/entry/manage_zfs_from_your_browser). I tried pkg install network-console, but it says that the package isn't available for my platform. Any ideas? I'd like to stick with Oracle Solaris instead of the open source alternatives, if possible.

    Actually, I do not know if I have used the right terms to describe our situation. Basically, We would like to have a system to help us to do billing and support at the same time. For example, we would like to offer outside users a customer support with ticket system, however the outside users need to purchase some credits beforehand through the system in order to submit their requests. Sometimes, our representatives will charge extra unit of credit for solving some open tickets due to the complexity and hours spent. Telnet ... before SSH, not secure SSH ... ( secure shell ) the general name of the system/protocol Shell ... short name for SSH Command Line/Command Prompt ... the windows version Terminal ... the Unix version, also used by apple. Two further questions: What is the Linux version commonly called, is it just called SSH ? What is bash ?
