    Hello Everyone, I'd like to compile a list of best practices for getting the most out of a single charge of a typical notebook battery (be it Li-Ion or Li-Poly). Sources would be great as well. I've heard, for instance, that the best things to do to improve battery performance (not the total lifetime of the battery, just single charge performance) are, in descending order of effectiveness: Turn your display all the way down. Turn off WiFi Turn off Bluetooth Spin down disks when they're not in use. etc… I'd like to get sources together for these and other tips for extending life-between-charge for any battery on any notebook (as these really are all about Demand Management rather than Life lime extension. After a few searches on the we I tried downloading and running the sample the source here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc164067.aspx I get a compile error: error C2440: 'static_cast' : cannot convert from 'UINT (__thiscall CStaticLink::* )(CPoint)' to 'LRESULT (__thiscall CWnd::* )(CPoint)' 1 Cast from base to derived requires dynamic_cast or static_cast (VS 2008) The tooltips functionality seems to be a bit of a challenge. Any suggestions on how to get this working are much appreciated.

  • Windows repair console, impossible?

    I found an old Windows XP SP2 in my -trash- cd can and tried it on a 30 GB FAT32 partition. Installation went fine till the copying operation was completed and XP asked for reboot. After that either it starts over again or throws invalid disk. Starting over is an infinite loop the only way I see is to choose the "Repair console" but I'm not used to a DOS box. Can anyone help me through this harmful installation?

    Let me explain what I'm trying to do. I want to make a simple box which counts down numbers at intervals I specify. For example, I'd like to set it to start at 150, and then I want to set it to drop by 15 every 30 seconds. Is this possible with AJAX/Javascript? If so, could someone point me in the right direction?   • Can I build or test a computer without a case?

    I am in the process of building a really nice new PC right now. It's going to have a nice Lian Li case with the internals powder coated black and all the wires will be sleeved. So my problem is I am getting parts in a couple days but my case will not be completed for about a month because it is on back order plus time to powder coat it. I am purchasing many of m y parts from newegg.com and they claim you must return any dead parts within 30 days or the invoice for there warranty to replace bad parts. So is it possible for me to set up the PC without a case just to test that the main parts are working correctly within the timeframe I am allowed? If this is possible, how do I deal with turning the system on/off without a powere button? Or is therer one on a motherboard? Thanks for any tips/advice

    Hi, I've installed all the components of IIS 7 on a Windows Server 2008 box but I don't see IIS Out-Of-Process Pooled Applications in Component Services. How do I get it ? I have a .dll file that I want to drag it here. I have IIS 6 locally and it has IIS Out-Of-Process Pooled Applications under Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Component Services - Computers - My Computer - COM+ Applications.
