• How much is too much memory allocation in NDK?

  The NDK download page notes that, "Typical good candidates for the NDK are self-contained, CPU-intensive operations that don't allocate much memory, such as signal processing, physics simulation, and so on." I came from a C background and was excited to try to use the NDK to operate most of my OpenGL ES functions and any native functions related to physics, animation of vertices, etc... I'm finding that I'm relying quite a bit on Native code and wondering if I may be making some mistakes. I've had no trouble with testing at this point, but I'm curious if I may run into problems in the future. For example, I have game struct defined (somewhat like is seen in the San-Angeles example). I'm loading vertex information for objects dynamically (just what is needed for an active game area) so there's quite a bit of memory allocation happening for vertices, normals, texture coordinates, indices and texture graphic data... just to name the essentials. I'm quite careful about freeing what is allocated between game areas. Would I be safer setting some caps on array sizes or should I charge bravely forward as I'm going now?

• Sending emails with CodeIgniter in a local XAMPP server

  Hi, I'm trying to send emails through localhost (XAMPP Windows 1.7.3 installation), but I've been trying for hours with no success. Is there anything I need to setup in my server to insure email delivery? I messed with php.ini and sendmail's config a bit with no luck. And openSSL isn't available in case that matters. Any idea what's wrong?

• Cakephp cache only caching one file per action

  Hi, I have a songs controller. Within the songs controller i have a 'view' action which get's passed an id, eg /songs/view/1 /songs/view/5 /songs/view/500 When a user visits /songs/view/1, the file is cached correctly and saved as 'songs_view_1.php' Now for the problem, when a user hit's a different song, eg /songs/view/2, the 'songs_view_1.php' is deleted and '/songs/view/2.php' is in it's place. The cahced files will stay there for a day if I don't visit a different url, and visiting a different action will not affect any other action's cached file. I've tried replacing my 'cake' folder (from 1.2 to 1.2.6), but that didn't do anything. I get no error messages at all and nothing in the logs. Here's my code, I've tried umpteen variations all ending up with the same problem. var $helpers = array('Cache'); var $cacheAction = array( 'view/' => '+1 day' ); Any ideas? EDIT: After some more testing, this code var $cacheAction = array( 'view/1' => "1 day", 'view/2' => "1 day" ); will cache 'view/1' or 'view/2', but delete the previous page as before. If I visit '/view/3' it will delete the cached page from before... sigh EDIT: Having the same issue on another server with same code...

  I've been able to get my Twitter web app working just fine, but I've recently decided to add Tweeting functionality from a Windows Form, but I'm having no luck sending tweets. No errors are thrown or anything. • Flex Tree with infinite parents and children

  I am working on a tree component and I am having a bit of the issue with populating the data-provider for this tree. The data that I get back from my database is a simple array of value objects. Each value object has 2 properties. ObjectID and ParentID. For parents the ParentID is null and for children the ParentID is the ObjectID of the parent. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. • App crashes frequently at time when UIActionSheet would be presented

  I am getting the following error intermittently when a call is made to display an action sheet. Assertion failure in -[UIActionSheet showInView:] Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Invalid parameter not satisfying: view != nil' Now in this case I've not changed screens. The UIActionSheet is presented when a local notification is fired and I have an observer call a local method on this view as such: I have the property marked as strong. When the action sheet is dismissed I also set it to nil. I am using a story board for the UI. It's fairly repeatable to crash it, perhaps less than 5 tries. (Thankfully I have that going for me). Any suggestions what to try next? I'm really pulling my hair out on this one. Most of the issues I've seen on this topic are pointing to the crash occurring once the selection is made. In my case it's at presentation and intermittently. Also for what it's worth, this particular view is several stacks deep in an embedded navigation controller. Hometableviewdetail selectviewController in question. This same issue occurs so far in testing on iOS 5.1 and iOS 6. • Why is Routes.rb not loading the IPs from cache?

  I am testing this in local. My ip is 127.0.0.1. The ip_permissions table, is empty. When I browse the site, everything works as expected. Now, I want to simulate browsing the site with a banned IP. So I add the IP into the ip_permissions table via: IpPermission.create!(:ip => '127.0.0.1', :note => 'foobar', :category => 'blacklist') In Rails console, I clear the cache via; Rails.cache.clear. I browse the site. I don't get sent to pages#blacklist. If I restart the server. And browse the site, then I get sent to pages#blacklist. Why do I need to restart the server every time the ip_permissions table is updated? Shouldn't it fetch it based on cache? • PHP.ini Settings Are Ignored By PHP5.3.5 Running With Windows 7 And Apache 2.2.15

  I did an install of PHP5.3.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium using the MSI installer download. I got it to overwrite a previous version of PHP5 in C:\php5\ When first testing it, the server failed to start. I fixed this by adding the path to PHP in the Apache2.2 httpd file where the installer had inserted 2 lines of coded pointing to the ini file directory and the PHP DLL but had left out the directory path. After doing this, the server starts ok and I can run phpinfo to view the PHP settings in my web browser on local host. In the phpinfo it states that the loaded configuration file is C:\php5\php.ini as expected. But if I make any changes to the settings, and reboot the server, none of the changes are reflected in phpinfo. Yes, I do refresh the browser window. If I rename the php.ini to something else to make it invisible phpinfo then correctly identifies that there is no php.ini file loaded. So the settings in php.ini are being ignored and some default settings are being used (but I have no idea where these are derived from). As far as I can tell, there are no other php.ini files on my computer. In phpinfo it states that the Configuration File (php.ini) Path is C:\Windows but this is the same as on a Windows XP computer that I work on. And in the windows folder I don't see any php.ini file. In the windows registry, there is no mention of PHP5, and the PATH environment variable starts with C:\php5\; So hopefully someone can suggest how I can get PHP5 to take notice of the C:\php5\php.ini settings. :)

  Here's the code i'm using to rotate: Dim m As New System.Drawing.Drawing2D.Matrix Dim size = image.Size m.RotateAt(degreeAngle, New PointF(CSng(size.Width / 2), CSng(size.Height / 2))) Dim temp As New Bitmap(600, 600, Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppPArgb) Dim g As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(temp) g.Transform = m g.DrawImage(image, 0, 0) (1) Disposals removed for brevity. (2) I test the code with a 200 x 200 rectangle. (3) Size 600,600 it just an arbitrary large value that I know will fit the right and bottom sides of the rotated image for testing purposes. (4) I know, with this code, the top and left edges will be clipped because I'm not transforming the orgin after the rotate. The problem only occurs at certain angles: (1) At 90, the right hand edge disappears completely. (2) At 180, the right and bottom edges are there, but very faded. (3) At 270, the bottom edge disappears completely. Is this a known bug? If I manually rotate the corners an draw the image by specifying an output rectangle, I don't get the same problem - though it is slightly slower than using RotateAt.

• Masonry js won't bunch images vertically

  I’m having trouble getting a AJAX/JSON function to work correctly. I had this function grabbing value from a drop down box but now I want to use an anchor tag to set it's value. I thought it would be easy to just use the onClick event to pass string to the function I was using for the drop down box but it doesn’t do anything. I’m stumped! I've been trying to create a SWIG wrapper for this tiny little C++ class for the better part of 3 hours with no success, so I was hoping one of you out there could lend me a small hand. My steps were Create an example.i file Compile original alongside example_wrap.cxx (no linking) link resulting object files together Create a little java test file (see below) javac all .java files there and run Well steps 4 and 5 have created a host of problems for me, starting with the basic ( library 'example' not found due to not being in java's path ) to the weird ( library not found even unless LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to something, even if it's nothing at all). I have tried researching this issue and have found some information on this, but nothing that seems to help with my problem. I am using a rather basic C++ compiler, with little debugging utilities and I've not used C++ in quite some time (even then it was only a small amount).   In my database I have a hierarchical flat table that returns data ordered by ParentID, ObjectID asc I am having a bit of an issue getting this recursive function to work properly. I get the first ParentChildChild but after that I get nothing else. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. • How does SVN store commit time

  I am working on a project that involves extracting details from a SVN server using SVNKit. My project is already complete and has been working we for a while now. During the testing, I noticed something rather very strange. the Commit Times my extract data seems is alway different from whats there in SVN Logs. I couldnt find any code in my project that could be inducing this difference but now I am looking as to how SVN server stores the Commit time in itself. As we have developer working from different part of the world thus resulting in different timezones, I was thinking that SVN might be storing time after converting them to GMT or timezone of the system on which SVN server is running. But that does not seem to be happening. Instead the times are stored as per the time when the commit was done and in that local timezone itself. I have been unable to find any substantial document on internet to support my theory so far. Can anybody in brief explain as how SVN store the Commit Time for each change? Documentaion links referring to this will be of great help.

• BackOffice Database Application FrontEnd - Program in C#/VB.Net or PHP?

  I'm working on a project where there will be a MySQL database containing data that will mostly be displayed on the web using PHP. However, there is a need here for a back-office data entry application (linked to the same MySQL database) that is feature rich and easy to use. what I'm trying to understand is where we are at with web-based frontends. I find that there are still so many events and features that I can make use of in a Windows Desktop GUI written in something like C#, VB.Net or MS Access. I don't have a lot of experience programming UI for web but it's my impression that it's still more difficult and takes longer to get similar or the same functionality using non-MS web technologies (I dislike ASP.net, sorry) as compared to programming the desktop portion in a traditional desktop application language like C#, VB.Net, or MS Access. jQuery and jQuery UI are definately making things easier. Also, there's very rich online applications like Google Docs and Zoho but it's my impression that these are programmed by some of the top web UI programmers around, not to mention that it takes longer to write it and intensive testing to make it work in all of your target browsers. It also takes extra time and code to "block" browsers that don't meet the requirements. What programming language would you recommend? I know I may not have given enough information here but I'm not sure what I'm missing. If you have questions just leave a comment below so I can edit this post and answer the questions.

  I am trying to open a file which normally has content, for the purpose of testing i will like to initialize the program without the files being available/existing so then the program should create empty ones, but am having issues implementing it. • Generated images fail to load in browser

  I've got a page on a webapp that has about 13 images that are generated by my application, which is written in the Kohana PHP framework. The images are actually graphs. They are cached so they are only generated once, but the first time the user visits the page, and the images all have to be generated, about half of the images don't load in the browser. Once the page has been requested once and images are cached, they all load successfully. Doing some ad-hoc testing, if I load an individual image in the browser, it takes from 450-700 ms to load with an empty cache (I checked this using Google Chrome's resource tracking feature). For reference, it takes around 90-150 ms to load a cached image. Even if the image cache is empty, I have the data and some of the application's startup tasks cached, so that after the first request, none of that data needs to be fetched. My questions are: Why are the images failing to load? It seems like the browser just decides not to download the image after a certain point, rather than waiting for them all to finish loading. What can I do to get them to load the first time, with an empty cache? Obviously one option is to decrease the load times, and I could figure out how to do that by profiling the app, but are there other options? As I mentioned, the app is in the Kohana PHP framework, and it's running on Apache. As an aside, I've solved this problem for now by fetching the page as soon as the data is available (it comes from a batch process), so that the images are always cached by the time the user sees them. That feels like a kludgey solution to me, though, and I'm curious about what's actually going on.

  I got a project of designing a Database. This is going to be my first big scale project. Good thing about it is information is mostly organized & currently stored in text files. The size of this information is 50GB. There are going to be few millions of records in each Table. Its going to have around 50 tables. I need to provide a web interface for searching & browsing. I'm going to use MySQL DBMS. I've never worked with a database more than 200MB before. So, speed & performance was never a concern but I followed things like normalization & Indexes. I never used any kind of testing/benchmarking/queryOptimization/whatever because I never had to care about them. But here the purpose of creating a database is to make it quickly searchable. So, I need to consider all possible aspects in design. • In C/C++ mode in Emacs, change face of code in #if 0...#endif block to comment face

  I'm trying to add functionality found in some other code editors to my Emacs configuration, whereby C/C++ code within #if 0...#endif blocks is automatically set to the comment face/font. Based on my testing, cpp-highlight-mode does something like what I want, but requires user action. It seems like tying into the font-lock functionality is the correct option to make the behavior automatic. I have successfully followed examples in the GNU documentation to change the face of single-line regular expressions. For example: (add-hook 'c-mode-common-hook (lambda () (font-lock-add-keywords nil '(("\\<\\(FIXME\\|TODO\\|HACK\\|fixme\\|todo\\|hack\\)" 1 font-lock-warning-face t))))) works fine to highlight debug related keywords anywhere in a file. However, I am having problems matching #if 0...#endif as a multiline regular expression. I found some useful information in this post (How to compose region like ""), that suggested that Emacs must be told specifically to allow for multiline matches. But this code: (add-hook 'c-mode-common-hook (lambda () '(progn (setq font-lock-multiline t) (font-lock-add-keywords nil '(("#if 0\\(.\\|\n\\)*?#endif" 1 font-lock-comment-face t)))))) still does not work for me. Perhaps my regular expression is wrong (though it appears to work using M-x re-builder), I've messed up my syntax, or I'm following the wrong approach entirely. I'm using Aquamacs 2.1 (which is based on GNU Emacs 23.2.50.1) on OS X 10.6.5, if that makes a difference. Any assistance would be appreciated!

• PHP Session variable isset(..)=1 after session_start()

I guess I am not understanding the scope of session variables, or the session itself, in PHP, hence this question: This is my code if(!session_id()==""){ echo "Getting rid of session"."</br>"; session_destroy(); } echo "Before session_start(): ".isset($_SESSION["first_date_of_week"])."</br>"; session_start(); echo "After session_start(): ".isset($_SESSION["first_date_of_week"])." ".$_SESSION["first_date_of_week"]->format("Y-m-d")."</br>"; The output is: Before session_start(): After session_start(): 1 2011-01-09 How come that when doing the isset(..) on the session variable it is set directly after starting the session, even though I haven't even used it or set it yet? It does, however, still have the same value as before. Also, session_id()="" since the if-clause is never triggered. I never kill the session, how come it is set to ""? I.e. I refresh the page and expects the session to still be alive. Using the isset(..) function is then pretty useless testing if it has been set already... Thanks in advance! /Niklas

If I remove it it works great. The problem is if I pull the click function out into it's own function and unit test it with qunit it will not work without the return false;

• How to separate sets of numbers onto separate lines

  About the script: The script below will create 300 sets of random characters. What is presently happening, is that it creates them but shows them all on one line, in one big chunk. With all the searching and testing I've done to try and achieve this, I have had no success. I would like to know which code and where to put it, so that each SET (300) of 15 characters long, will show and be saved to file.
