• Inline Image in ASP.NET

  Inline images is a technique that, instead of referring to an external URL, includes all of the image’s content in the HTML itself, in the form of a Base64-encoded string. It avoids a second browser request, at the cost of making the HTML page slightly heavier and not using cache. Not all browsers support it, but current versions of IE, Firefox and Chrome do. • What is an effective git process for managing our central code library?

  Quick background: we're a small web agency (3-6 developers at any one time) developing small to medium sized Symfony 1.4 sites. We've used git for a year now, but most of our developers have preferred Subversion and aren't used to a distributed model. For the past 6 months we've put a lot of development time into a central Symfony plugin that powers our custom CMS. This plugin includes a number of features, helpers, base classes etc. that we use to build custom functionality. This plugin is stored in git, but branches wildly as the plugin is used in various products and is pulled from/pushed to constantly. The repository is usually used as a submodule within a major project. The problems we're starting to see now are a large number of Merge conflicts and backwards incompatible changes brought into the repository by developers adding custom functionality in the context of their own project. I've read Vincent Driessen's excellent git branching model and successfully used it for projects in the past, but it doesn't seem to quite apply well to our particular situation; we have a number of projects concurrently using the same core plugin while developing new features for it. What we need is a strategy that provides the following: A methodology for developing major features within the code repository. A way of migrating those features into other projects. A way of versioning the core repository, and of tracking which version each major project uses. A plan for migrating bug fixes back to older versions. A cleaner history that's easier to see where changes have come from. Any suggestions or discussion would be greatly appreciated.

• Development environment to manage multiple Oracle databases

  I am in an enterprise environment where we have applications that need to run against multiple Oracle databases. Developers may need to manage multiple vintages of these databases to support different test data or diagnose bugs against different versions of the code. Right now, we have a limited set of test environments set up on "real" Oracle servers within the data center. We juggle these among development and QA groups and there is a lot of conflicts and inefficiencies that arise because of it. I am taking a look at Oracle Express Edition which would allow me to spin up a local Oracle database. This is similar to the workflow I most often see with SQL Server. Devs work on their location machine until they are ready to integration and then they push their DB changes to integration / QA environments. However, from what I read it seems that Oracle XE only supports one database instance at a time. So if I have an application that utilizes two different databases, I can't have both of them running on my local machine. Is that correct? Does Oracle Standard or Personal editions get around this limitation? If I had one of those installed locally, how difficult would it be to get multiple databases working on the same development machine? How do dev shops handle developing against Oracle where they need to be using several different Oracle instances for their applications?

  here is my scenario i have a website where i redirect my users basing upon the device they were using, lets say a user is visiting from an iPad, i take him directly to the page of iPad wallpapers, the user selects iPad version & i take the user to the gallery of wallpapers where the user can select & download any wallpaper. Every wallpaper is the required resolution, i have my reasons for doing this, now the thing is there are diff. resolution. versions of an image appearing one 5 diff. sections of my website, each having their own view page Now there is only one record in db.table for the image, and basing on the my consistent naming convention of the images, i pick the required image. this means when 5 different pages are generated in 5 categorized sections of the website, due to a shared DB record, the keywords, the titles and every single detail of the 5 pages is same besides the resolution of the image, and the section specific details that the page has and yeah the pages also have different paths like wallpapers.com\ipad-1\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-2\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-3\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-4\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-5\cars\Ferrari-dino.html now this is my scenario, How do Search Engines see it and how do they rank it? • What is up with the Joy of Clojure 2nd edition?

  Manning just released the second edition of the beloved Joy of Clojure book, and while I share that love I get the feeling that many of the examples are already outdated. In particular, in the chapter on optimization the recommended type-hinting seems not to be allowed by the compiler. I don't know if this was allowable for older versions of Clojure. For example: (defn factorial-f [^long original-x] (loop [x original-x, acc 1] (if (>= 1 x) acc (recur (dec x) (*' x acc))))) returns: clojure.lang.Compiler$CompilerException: java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: Can't type hint a primitive local, compiling:(null:3:1) Likewise, the chapter on core.logic seems be using an old API and I have to find workarounds for each example to accommodate the recent changes.   NOTE - Although this question is for a specific version of Ubuntu and a specific Broadcom model, the answer to it is for most Broadcom models and versions of Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10, 12.04 and 12.10. If you have come here from another question, feel free to read the answer instead. The answer covers many problems with several solutions. I'm having serious problems installing the Broadcom drivers for Ubuntu 11.04. It worked perfectly on my previous version, but now, it is impossible. I'm a user with no advance knowledge in Linux, so I would need clear explanations on make, compile, etc. I was following the instructions on the following blog, with no luck. How can I get Broadcom BCM4311 Wireless working? Can someone help me? Edit: For the command: "lspci | grep Network", I get the following message: 06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN (rev 01) For the command: iwconfig, i get the following: lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. When i follow the following steps (from the above link), there are a NO error message at all: open the 'Synaptic Package Manager' and search for bcm uninstall the bcm-kernel-source package make sure that the firmware-b43-installer and the b43-fwcutter packages are installed type into terminal: cat /etc/modprobe.d/* | egrep '8180|acx|at76|ath|b43|bcm|CX|eth|ipw|irmware|isl|lbtf|orinoco|ndiswrapper|NPE|p54|prism|rtl|rt2|rt3|rt6|rt7|witch|wl' (you may want to copy this) and see if the term blacklist bcm43xx is there if it is, type cd /etc/modprobe.d/ and then sudo gedit blacklist.conf put a # in front of the line: blacklist bcm43xx then save the file (I was getting error messages in the terminal about not being able to save, but it actually did save properly). reboot 'End of procedure' Before (not ubuntu 11.04), if i wanted to connect wireles, i just went to the icon at the upper side of the screen, click, showed ALL the wireless network available, and done. Scientists at McMaster University took subjects who, as the result of surgery correcting congenital cataracts, had less than 20/20 vision. Subjects played Medal of Honor for a total of 40 hours over the course of 4 weeks before having their vision retested. The results?   We have just migrated our systems from Windows to Ubuntu. We have more than 50 systems previously running Windows XP & Windows 7. After the release of 12.04 we decided to switch to Ubuntu. While we were installing Ubuntu 12.04 on Pentium 4 systems we have faced some issues. We tried it with a USB flash driver & CD. The typical configuration of the system is as follows: Pentium 4 with HT & 512 MB RAM, 40/80 GB IDE / SATA HDD. In windows there were several partitions and data on all the drives in all the systems. We have addressed this by taking backup of the C: drive on other drives & while installing Ubuntu we have just deleted & the C drive & recreated Linux partitions as follows - /root , /Boot, /Home & Swap.(in 10 GB) The problem is that the Linux gets installed without any error. However when I restart the system after the installation the system hangs in while detecting the HDD in BIOS and the system fails to start until I remove the HDD. When I installed the previous Ubuntu version it worked fine, without any hassle. Also if we install Ubuntu 12.04 on same HDD on any other higher capacity system & reconnected to old system it works fine. How can I fix this problem? Also, is there is any Antivirus which will give me real time protection on ubuntu 11 & higher versions with both 32 & 64 Bits?

  I think back to the days of the first versions of Visual Studio (when it was called Visual Studio .NET, remember?) and I think about how far Microsoft has come with this IDE. It really is the best IDE on the market. There is so much to this IDE it is amazing. It now can really handle managing your complete software application development lifecycle. For me, it is (besides Windows 7) the best and most successful product Microsoft has developed. You can obviously get this now and it is available on MSDN and some other places: MSDN Visual Studio Trial Editions Visual Studio 2010 Express Editions (free) You will also find great info at the Visual Studio Developer Center. Some other interesting tidbits of info: JetBrain’s ReSharper 5.0 has been released for VS2010 Oracle will have the new Oracle Dev Tools for VS2010 within one month - http://bit.ly/9gC9NE Visual Studio 64-bit - Why there is no 64-bit version of VS - http://bit.ly/dhhwAj In installing this version of Visual Studio, if you have been working on the previous RC builds, then you are going to want to uninstall these previous editions of the 2010 product. You can do this through the Add Remove Programs dialog and you are going to want to select the appropriate item from the long list of Visual Studio items. You are then going to want to step through the Visual Studio dialog (it will seem as if you are installing it again) – and you will then come to a point where you can select the option to Uninstall the entire application. If you have installed the Silverlight 4 RC stuff, then you are also going to want to uninstall this and you are also going to want to uninstall the “Update for Visual Studio 2010 (KB976272)” before installing Silverlight RC2 – which you can find on www.silverlight.net. • Netbook performs hard shutdown without warning on low battery power

  My Asus EEE netbook performs a hard shutdown when it reaches low battery power, without giving any warning - i.e. the power just goes off, without any shutdown process. I can't find anything in the syslog, and no error messages are printed before it happens. I've had this problem on previous (K)Ubuntu versions, and hoped updating to Ubuntu Precise would help resolve the issue, but it hasn't. The option in the Power application for "when power is critically low" is currently blank - the only options are a (grayed-out) hibernate and "Power off". I have re-installed indicator-power to no effect. The time remaining reported by acpi is unstable, as is the time remaining reported by gnome-power-statistics. (For example, running acpi twice in succession, I got 2h16min, and then 3h21min remaining. These sorts of jumps in the remaining time are also in the gnome-power-statistics graphs.) It might be possible to write a script to give me advance warning (as per @RanRag's comment below), but I would prefer to isolate why I don't get a critical battery notification from the system before this happens, so that I can take action as appropriate (suspend/shutdown/plug in power) when I get a notification.   I am using vb to send emails through outlook. Currently we have a mix of outlook versions at our office: 2010 and 2013 with a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit (a mess, I know). I have referenced the version 15 dll for 2013 and it seems to be backward compatible, but when I try to use the above code for 2013 (it is 64 bit) it says it cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A program error has occured. This is happening on the application Dim statement line. I have tried googling around but there doesn't seem to be much out there referencing 2013 but I feel that the problem here probably has more to do with 64 bit than the software version. • How do I nstall MS Office 2010 via WINE?

  I am trying to install MS Office 2010 on Ubuntu 12.04 on my new MacBook Pro (15"). I already read and followed every existing threads on forums and followed every existing tutorial, but my problem seem unique so far, since whichever solution I try, the problem remains. When I launch PlayOnLinux, two boxes appear one after the other (before the latest upgrade of Ubuntu of last week, the second box did not appear, only the first one did); the first one tells me: Error: PlayOnLinux is unable to find 32-bits OpenGL libraries. You might encounter problem with your games." When I close this window, a second one pops up, stating: Error: PlayOnLinux cannot find 7z. You should install it to use PlayOnLinux. Of course, I tried purging PlayOnLinux (uninstalling it and re-installing it). I also tried other versions of PlayOnLinux. Nothing matters: the problem remains. I did not succeed so far to install 32-bits OpenGL libraries, since I have a Radeon graphics card (which seems to be unusual) and I just cannot find these libraries. Once the two "error" boxes are closed, PlayOnLinux is open, but does not seem to work properly; when I try to install Microsoft Office 2010, nothing happens. When I try to close PlayOnLinux, it is even worse: Unity seems unable to close it (I even had a frozen screen when trying to xkill it through the terminal).   One of the problems with recommending Ubuntu to potential future users, especially those not particularly given to technical endeavours, is that there is a chance that upgrades will break their machine, and they'll have to pay or otherwise coerce some knowledgeable person into fixing them. In my limited experience of running successive versions of Ubuntu since 8-something on a couple of different laptops, this chance is quite high. I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky with the hardware that I'm using, or if it's a result of the higher-than-average number of packages I have installed, or if upgrades are just typically problematic. So I'd like to know the likelihood, for a casual user, of doing a release upgrade, for example from 10.04 to 10.10, without experiencing any regression bugs. Obviously this is dependent on the hardware that people are running. Canonical seems to be making some efforts towards collecting data on this, for example with the "I am affected by this bug" checkbox on their issue tracker, and with the laptop compatibility reports, but I've not seen anything comprehensive. I'm hoping for an objective reference here, for example a study carried out by relatively unbiased individuals. However, anecdotal evidence is probably useful too.

In this article, we include a fully functional application that can be used to synchronize contacts between Google and QuickBooks. Like our QuickBooks ADO.NET Provider, the included application supports both the desktop versions of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online Edition. Getting the Contacts Step 1: Google accounts include a number of contacts. To obtain a list of a user's Google Contacts, issue a query to the Contacts table. For example: SELECT * FROM Contacts. Step 2: QuickBooks stores contact information in multiple tables. Depending on your use case, you may want to synchronize your Google Contacts with QuickBooks Customers, Employees, Vendors, or a combination of the three. To get data from a specific table, issue a SELECT query to that table. For example: SELECT * FROM Customers Step 3: Retrieving all results from QuickBooks may take some time, depending on the size of your company file. To narrow your results, you may want to use a filter by including a WHERE clause in your query. • External monitor is blank if I boot with the monitor plugged in

  Ubuntu 12.04 has problem with Intel GM45 Chipset, featuring the the Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ70 laptop with an Intel GM45 chipset that features the Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 4500MHD. I was using the second HDMI video port to drive both a projector or a second monitor. Everything was working fine under Ubuntu 8.04, 9.04, 10.04 and 11.04, however, when I upgraded to 12.04 the second monitor stopped working. What I mean when I say stopped working is: boot with monitor plugged in. Blank screen! Power off, unplug monitor and power on everything works. Plug in monitor (only mode that works in Mirror mode) two monitors that look same. Close laptop lid. screen goes blank only option for useful system is power off and unplug monitor. If I attempt to Adjust the monitor to maximum resolution that the monitor will handle and turn off mirror mode nothing can be moved onto that screen. This all worked fine with earlier versions of Ubuntu, is there a notes about the changes to the graphics management system in 12.04, like there is for the resolver change?

• SKYPE 4.1 Ubuntu 12.04 - Webcam's Image Upside Down and with Zoom

  I'm trying do my notebook's webcam works on Skype 4.1, but I am not having success. The problem is that the webcam's image appears upside down and with zoom. This problem don't happen on Skype Version 2.1 (Beta). On Skype 2.1 (Beta) my webcam works perfectly. However, on Skype 4.1 the webcam's image is upside down and with zoom. I managed to solve only the upside down problem with the following commands: $ export LIBV4LCONTROL_FLAGS=3 $ LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype After these commands the webcam's image become normal, but the image is still zoomed. I could not solve the zoom problem. To work around this I'm obligated to use the both versions (2.1 (beta) and 4.1). Does anyone know a way to make the image from my webcam stay perfectly normal? These are the information about my webcam: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0c45:62c0 Microdia Sonix USB 2.0 Camera It uses the driver "uvcvideo". And I'm using the Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits. Thank you very much!
