• Reading in multiple words for prolog

  Im running prolog via poplog on unix and was wondering if there was a way to read in multiple words (such as encase it into a string). For instance, read(X) will only allow X to be 1 term. However, if I encase the user input with "", it will return a list of character codes, is this the correct method as I can not find a way to convert it back to a readable string. I would also like to be able to see if the multiworded string contains a set value (for instance, if it contains "i have been") and am unsure of how i will be able to do this as well.

• Linq to Sql GroupJoin Paging oddity

  I have noticed a strange Sql Translation in a LinqToSql Query I was trying to optimise. If I execute the following Recipients.GroupJoin( RecipientAttributes, x => x.Recipient_Id, y => y.Recipient_Id, (x,y) => new {Recipient = x, Attributes = y}) .Skip(1) .Take(1000) It executes in a single query as expected. However Recipients.GroupJoin( RecipientAttributes, x => x.Recipient_Id, y => y.Recipient_Id, (x,y) => new {Recipient = x, Attributes = y}) .Skip(0) .Take(1000) executes in a separate query for each Attributes selection. Removing the Skip(0) makes no difference either. Can anyone explain this and is there something I can do to get the first page query executing in a single sql statement?

  Okey, what I know so far; The entity contains a component(data-storage) which holds information like; - Texture/sprite - Shader - etc And then I have a renderer system which draws all this. But what I don't understand is how the renderer should be designed. Should I have one component for each "visual type". One component without shader, one with shader, etc? Just need some input on whats the "correct way" to do this. Tips and pitfalls to watch out for.

• Django GenericRelation doesn't save related object's id - is this a bug or am I doing it wrong?

  I have a model with a generic relation (call it A), when creating an instance of this object I pass an instance of another model (call it B) as the initializer of the content_object field (via kwargs of the constructor). If I don't save B before creating A then when saving A the content_object_id is saved to the db as NULL. If I save B before passing it to the constructor of A then everything's allright. It's not logical. I assumed that the ID of the related object (B) is fetched when doing A.save() and it should throw some kind of an exception if B isn't saved yet but it just fails silently. I don't like the current solution (saving B beforhand) because we don't know yet if I will be always willing to keep the object, not just scrap it, and there are performance considerations - what if I will add some another data and save it once more shortly after. class BaseNodeData(models.Model): ... extnodedata_content_type = models.ForeignKey(ContentType, null=True) extnodedata_object_id = models.PositiveIntegerField(null=True) extnodedata = generic.GenericForeignKey(ct_field='extnodedata_content_type', fk_field='extnodedata_object_id') class MarkupNodeData(models.Model): raw_content = models.TextField() Suppose we do: markup = MarkupNodeData(raw_content='...') base = BaseNodeData(..., extnodedata=markup) markup.save() base.save() # both records are inserted to the DB but base is stored with extnodedata_object_id=NULL markup = MarkupNodeData(raw_content='...') base = BaseNodeData(..., extnodedata=markup) base.save() markup.save() # no exception is thrown and everything is the same as above markup = MarkupNodeData(raw_content='...') markup.save() base = BaseNodeData(..., extnodedata=markup) base.save() # this works as expected Of course I can do it this way, but it doesn't change anything: base = BaseNodeData(...) base.extnodedata = markup My question is - is this a bug in django which I should report or maybe I'm doing something wrong. What I need to do is, on click of a button I need to copy all the fields of user table to userprofile table. UserModel AttData = UserModel[0]; DataServices.Save((UserProfile)AttData.ProfileModel.Instance); UserModel[0] contains all the data in user table. I want to copy this data to AttData.ProfileModel.Instance. How can I do that?

• Does home directory encryption depend on gnome keyring?

  My gnome-keyring has somehow gotten messed up. It prompts for a password (that I know I never provided - yes I chose 'unsafe storage'). None of the possible passwords that I use (including empty) are working. So basically I want to delete the default key so I can start over. I just want to confirm that this isn't somehow tied to my home directory encryption. I want to be sure that if I delete the default key from it, I will still be able to log in normally and decrypt my home directory. It seems likely that they're unrelated as the keyring is within the home directory and is thus itself encrypted, but I just thought I'd ask. Anyone have any thoughts?

  Hello, I would like to control how linq querries my database programaticaly. For instance, I'd like to query the column X, column Y, or column Z, depending on some conditions. First of all, I've created an array of all the properties inside my class called myPropertyInfo. Type MyType = (typeOf(MyClass)); PropertyInfo[] myPropertyInfo = myType.GetProperties( BindingFlags.Public|BindingFlags.Instance); The myPropertyInfo array allows me to access each property details (Name, propertyType, etc) through the index*[i]* Now, how can I use the above information to control how linq queries my DB? Here's a sample of a querry I'd like to exploit. var myVar = from tp in db.MyClass select tp.{expression}; Expression using myPropertyInfo[i] to choose which property(column) to query. I'm not sure if that's the way of doing it, but if there's another way to do so, I'll be glad to learn. Thanks for helping.

• I need to get past my permissions to recover data

  Due to some mishaps, I am unable to boot into Kubuntu at all. However, my data is still on the hard drive. I managed to get one of the other two computers to which I have access to read the disk by booting into a liveCD session of kubuntu. The only storage medium to which I have access is a 30 GB data stick. Here's where the trouble starts: In music alone, I have to back up about 60 GB. Obviously this is going to have to be split into chunks and moved over to the second spare PC until I can reinstall Kubuntu on my laptop. All of the data that needs backed up is behind a permissions wall, so while I can view it, I can't interact with it directly. I know copying and moving through the terminal can get around this with sudo cp or sudo mv, but is there a way to first compress multiple folders in a single archive, then move it? (While we're on the subject, what compression method would be best for large volumes of music in MP3, WAV, and OGG format?)

I learned programming with Java and now I'm developing in Java for more or less 5 years (at the university) and I thinks my programming skills their are really ok/average. I have also small experience in C/C++ and C#. Now I have some spare time and I'd like to learn a new language or deepen the knowledge of Java/C/C++. But how to choose the right language to learn? I'd like to learn a language which will be usefull in the future concerning working in a software development business? I know there is no single answer, but I'm sure you could mention some languages that are more usefull than others.

  I am printing a menu using UL, the trouble is the order that is generated by my script is ignored because im printing the LI one after the other and they're spanning three across. So the order is 1 , 2 , 3 as opposed to 1 2 3 To counteract this i wanted to split my single UL into three that way the order would be maintained. I've imported the necessary libraries. I mention that I work on a plugin project. This code runs in a class with main function. I don't understand why it gave me this error. Thank you !

  Hello, I am trying to figure out the SQL for doing some relatively simple operations on sets of records in a table but I am stuck. Consider a table with multiple rows per item, all identified by a common key. For example: serial model color XX1 A blue XX2 A blue XX3 A green XX5 B red XX6 B blue XX1 B blue What I would for example want to do is: Assuming that all model A rows must have the same color, find the rows which dont. (for example, XX3 is green). Assuming that a given serial number can only point to a single type of model, find out the rows which that does not occur (for example XX1 points both to A and B) These are all simple logically things to do. To abstract it, I want to know how to group things by using a single key (or combination of keys) and then compare the values of those records. Should I use a join on the same table? should i use some sort of array or similar? thanks for your help

  I have a single node hadoop machine in which hbase is running in the amazone ec2 instance. Due to some reason the server got restarted. So i need to start hadoop and hbase again. Then its working fine, but the old data in the hbase cannot be accessed through the web-servies. While i use the shell command its working fine, i am getting the data. So i created the scenario on my local server machine, but its working fine. The version details are as follows. hadoop-0.20.2 hbase-0.90.5 apache-tomcat-7.0.30 in Amazon ec2 medium instance And i use restful web-services with Orm-hbase to access data.

  I created an EC2 instance (Ubuntu 64 bit) and attached a volume from a publicly available snapshot to the instance. I successfully mounted the volume. I am supposed to be able to run a script from this attached volume using the following steps as explained in the tutorial: Log in to your virtual machine. mkdir /space mount /dev/sdf1 /space cd /space ./setup-script The problem is that, when I try: ./setup-script I got the following message: -bash: ./setup-script: No such file or directory What is the problem ? How can I search for the ./setup-script in the whole machine ? I'm not very familiar with linux system. Please, help. • Rails: updating an item along with associated items

  Suppose I have a simple to-do list application. The application contains two models: lists (have an owner and description) items (have name and due-date) that belong to a specific list I would like to have a single edit screen for a list in which I update the list attributes (such as description) and also create/delete/modify associated items. There should be a single "save" button that will commit all changes. Unless save is pressed, any change to the list and the items should be forgotten. I wasn't able to find an elegant best practice for this. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions and/or references to existing implementations.

  Hello, I was wondering is there an easy way to communicate between iphones over the Internet(Not LAN/Bluetooth) or must there be a dedicated server in which all the iphones running an application needs to connect to? Once four clients joins a room, game starts. must I implement a server in which every Iphone client connects to (for instance if server was developed on Windows it could be a Service) or is there another way to address this when developing Internet-based application?
