  • Can I stop battery charging at say 80% and switch to AC?

    While I was looking for a battery management utility for my Dell E5420, I came to read this post - How can I limit battery charging to 80% capacity? . Sofar, I haven't found one that relates to my laptop. So, I wonder now if any battery manager utility can be found for my laptop specified above. I would be happy if someone could point me if such utility is available under Ubuntu 12.04 that can stop charging a battery at a certain percentage and to ONLY use A/C mode. Again, to start using battery mode when the A/C is off or when the battery level reaches at certain level. Thanks for all your help. Elim.

To the point ------------------------------------------ After upgrading from 13.10 to 14.4 my sound was lost. Even I've tryied several sugestions from you (and other helpers) I've got nothing. My dual (UBUNTU/WINDOWS) Desktop sound works fine in windows!!!(damm!!) my DELL Inspiration laptop sound works fine in UBUNTU 14.4 LTS. ¿?¿? Do anybody knows Which is actually the origin of the problem? Is there any solution diferent to assay-error metodology? Is'nt every newer version of UBUNTU enough double checked before releasing it?   • Cannot shutdown, computer freezes

    I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 (near windows 7) on my laptop(Dell studio xps 1640 with Ati Radeon HD 3670) and everything is working fine, but when I want to shutdown my computer it freezes! I don't know what to do after that, then I have to use power button to power off the computer and it's not good at all. I don't know what's the problem and I don't know how to figure this out. I installed the graphic card driver (12.6 version) from ATI website and it fixed my problem with playing videos but I think after that this shutdown problem appears! Would you tell me what's the problem and how can I fix it?

  • Getting wifi working on 14.04

    I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my laptop. When I plug in the ethernet cable the internet works fine, but I can't see any wireless network in the networking manager. The wifi switch is definitely on on my laptop! It's a Dell XPS M1330. I'm using my DNS as the Proxy server "abcdef.cloudapp.net" and port 80 (since that's my public endpoint).

  • Adaptec 6405 RAID controller turned on red LED

    I have a server with an Adaptec 6405 RAID controller and 4 disks in a RAID 5 configuration. Staff in the data center called me because they noticed a red LED was turned on in one of the drive bays. I have then checked the status using 'arcconf getconfig 1' and I got the status message 'Logical devices/Failed/Degraded: 2/0/1'. The status of the logical devices was listed as 'Rebuilding'. However, I did not get any suspicious status of the affected physical device, the S.M.A.R.T. setting was 'no', the S.M.A.R.T. warnings were '0' and also 'arcconf getsmartstatus 1' returned no problems with any of the disk drives. The 'arcconf getlogs 1 events tabular' command gives lots of output (sorry, can't paste the log file here as I only have remote console access, I could post a screenshot though). I was not able to check the LED status, my guess is that the red LED is off again. Now I have a lot of questions: what is a possible cause for the medium error, why it is not reported by the SMART log too? Should I replace the disk drives? They were purchased just a month ago. The rebuilding process took one or two days, is that normal? The disks are 2 TByte each and the storage system is mostly idling. the timestamp of the logs seem to show the moment of the log retrieval, not the moment of the incident. Please advise, all help is very appreciated.

  • HD Tune warning for "Reallocated Event Count" with a new/unused drive. How serious is that?

    I've just looked at the health status of my old 2,5 inch 500 Gb Fujitsu drive with a popular "HD Tune" utility. It shows a warning for the "Reallocated Event Count" property. How serious is that? The thing is that the drive is practically new. I pulled it out of a new laptop over a year ago and never used it since. Right now it only has 53 "Power On" hours which sounds about right since I only had it running a few evenings overnight before switching it for something more performant. Does this warning indicate that the drive is likely to fail some time in the future? I'm somewhat perplexed since the drive is effectively unused. What is more, I have arranged with somebody to buy off this drive since I don't really need. It is 12,5 mm thick (with 3 plates) meaning it doesn't fit into an external enclosure which makes it quite useless to me. Can I give away the drive without having it on my conscience or better cancel the deal? In other words, can the drive be used safely for years to come or better throw it away? I'm running a sector test now to see if there are any real problems. Will post the results as soon as they're available.

Here's the GUI error (from Directory Utility) on the OS X client: Here's the GUI error (from User's and Groups) in System Preferences on the OS X client: Update After some Wiresharking I've got some more info: OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (no padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_PREAUTH_REQUIRED OS X Client - KDC (over UDP): AS_REQ (this time with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over UDP): KRB5KDC_ERR_RESPONSE_TOO_BIG OS X Client - KDC (over TCP): AS_REQ (also with PA-ENC-TIMESTAMP in padata) OS X Client <- KDC (over TCP): KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP ...and that's it. This is what I think is going on: The OS X client sends a kerberos request. The KDC says, "You need to pre-authenticate. Try again" The OS X client tries to pre-authenticate (all this so far is over UDP) Something gets lost on our network and the KDC says, "Oops something went wrong" The OS X client switches to TCP and tries again. Over TCP, the KDC says, "You're using an encryption type I don't support" Note that in its padata records, the OS X client is always using "aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96" as its encryption type. However, in its KDC_REQ_BODY record it lists the aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96, aes128-cts-hmac-sha1-96, des3-cbc-sha1, and rc4-hmac encryption types. When the KDC comes back with KDC_ERR_ETYPE_NOSUPP, it uses rc4-hmac as its encryption type in its padata record. I know next to nothing about Kerberos, but it seems to me that the OS X client should go ahead and try the rc4-hmac encryption type. However, it does nothing after this.     I so sick and tired of having my components pass the minimum requirements of a game and then I get 15 FPS on the game on everything low. Should't PC developers say 'use at least this video card for a smooth 30 FPS'? Here are my specs: Windows 7 2GB DDR2 RAM XFX Nvidia 9400gt Intel Pentium D Dual Core 2.8ghz I should be at LEAST getting 30 FPS on everything low right? Please tell me what I can do to make games run as they should, or is my video card not good for these games?     There are plenty of tutorials on setting up AnyConnect on an ASA unit, and a handful of links noting that IOS 12.4(15) and later support AnyConnect, but I can't seem to find any good documentation about how to setup AnyConnect on IOS; most tutorials assume you only want a clientless VPN on IOS. the best I've found is this document on Cisco's site, but it's not working for me in practice - see below. Latency between the servers is minimal - a tenth or two of a millisecond. Profiling with XHProf shows PHP execution times that aren't out of whack, either. Number of queries doesn't seem to make a difference - we seem the same 5-10 second delay whether a page has 12 queries or 250. Any suggestions about where I should start troubleshooting here? I'm quite confused.

    I'm testing FB 7 and try to connect to my Mac OS X Snow Leopard machine. I can connect with paramiko (python SSH library) but not FB7.   • How to shrink Windows 7 boot partition with unmovable files.

    I have just bought HP laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit). It has 500 GB HDD with three partitions: small hidden system partition, 12 GiB HP recovery partition, and 450 GiB C: boot partition. I would like to split this large C: partition into two partitions, leaving only 100 GiB for system, and giving the rest to new data partition. Although Windows built-in Disk Management utility has an option to shrink the bootable partition, it only allows me to shrink it roughly by half, even though only 20 GiB on the partition is used. As far as I understand, system unmovable files lie in the middle of the partition, preventing Disk Management utility to do what I want. And since new HP laptops don't come with OS installation disks (they only allow you to create recovery disks youself), I can't just repartition HDD and then reinstall OS. So, is there any way to shrink C: bootable partition and preserve Windows 7 working? P.S.: I have tried to use 3rd party GParted utility, and after shrinking the partition Windows 7 stopped booting with BSOD. System recovery didn't work, and I had to do factory recover. Since this is a long process, I would like to avoid doing it again :) So, please, suggest only proven solutions.

  • Apachebench on node.js server returning "apr_poll: The timeout specified has expired (70007)" after ~30 requests

    I just started working with node.js and doing some experimental load testing with ab is returning an error at around 30 requests or so. I've found other pages showing a lot better concurrency numbers than I am such as: http://zgadzaj.com/benchmarking-nodejs-basic-performance-tests-against-apache-php Are there some critical server configuration settings that need done to achieve those numbers? I've watched memory on top and I still see a decent amount of free memory while running ab, watched mongostat as well and not seeing anything that looks suspicious. I'm running it on osx lion, but have also run the same command on the server with the same results. EDIT: I eventually solved this issue. I was using a TTAPI, which was connecting to turntable.fm through websockets. On the homepage, I was connecting on every request. So what was happening was that after a certain number of connections, everything would fall apart. If you're running into the same issue, check out whether you are hitting external services each request.
