  • Deny access to run certain installed software for users

    I have a list of installed software, obtained from WMI class select * from Win32_Product. I'd like to deny execution rights for some users on certain software like so: find the path to installed software recursively remove execution rights I find the path to installed software from Win32_Product InstallLocation column. But the PROBLEM is that not all rows in Win32_Product have a value for InstallLocation. What can I do to overcome this? Is there somewhere in registry where I can find this path?

  • Right solution for /etc/hosts file reset on reboot

    i've just installed funtoo and after setting the FQDN on /etc/conf.d/hostname i noticed when setting a list of aliases in /etc/hosts file it get overwtiten on each reboot. Someone points to set the aliases to 127.0.0.2 ip address but that's not a valid solution for me. Could someone point me to the file where i should place entries like 127.0.0.1 local.foo 127.0.0.1 local.bar in order to make them persist in /etc/hosts after rebooting? Thanks! PD: I think openresolv could be the one who is overwritting the file.

    Hi, I wanted to use this code to send archives with Xmodem: http://www.java2s.com/Code/Java/Network-Protocol/JModemsimplecommunicationsprogram.htm In this case, I want to establish a dialup connection between two computers and send a binary file. But this code doesn't let me set a phone number to dial after i setup the port and before I transfer the file. Is there any way of sharing the port with another application that dials the phone number?

    i have a simple query that returns an entity, and when i look at hibernate SQL output i see that when i execute this query hibernate updates the @Version field (on each consecutive read the @version field is updated). i dont modify anything in the entity i fetch, and i dont pass is as an argument to either persist or merge. this effectively means every read i make turns into a read+write. i've tried setting the lock mode t oboth NONE (jpa 2) and READ (jpa 1) to no avail. is there any way to achieve this? if so, is there any way to set this as the default behavior in persistence.xml in some way ? im using jpa2 over hibernate 3.6

    I am trying to write a simple program, preferably in C, that will watch a given directory. Whenever a process accesses that directory, I just want to print out the name of that process. It seems simple, but I am coming up short for solutions on MSDN. Does anyone know which library calls I will need for this, or any helpful advice? I have considered repeatedly querying for what processes have handles on the given directory and just watching for additions to that list.This approach just seems very intensive and I am hoping there is an easier way. However, I am instructed not to use binding sources for the connection or other drag and drop controls.     I've got a wordpress plugin which presets several settings in a wordpress site and creates some default pages which are the same for all my sites. I would like to include an html file in my plugin zip package that is placed into the site's root directory "as is" (same file name, etc) The file is my google verification file, which is the same for all my sites, so I'd like to save a few steps and automate the process of installing it, along with my default setup steps that my plugin handles. Any help, much appreciated.

    I get a lot of requests in my application to allow for custom icons packs from BetterCut / Open Home. The way it seems to work is you install BetterCut or Open Home, then you can install tons of these free icon packs from the market. Once installed both those apps (and other apps) will poll for those icon packs and use the icons. I want to know how to poll the install applications for the asset folders that are available. I have opened up a few of the icon packs and verified that there is an assets folder in there and they are full of all the icon png files. I've searched on here, other code sites, google, etc but havn't found any leads.

    I have a basic javascript function like this which works as I am able to dynamically change the textbox in a javascript method at runtime. function MyTst(pVal2) { var x = document.getElementById('<%=myImage.ClientID%>'); x.src = "/images/write.gif"; } In the above code I need to be generic. So replace '<%=myImage.ClientID%' with the input param to my method which in this instance is called pVal2 and contains the asp.net server control image id. Can anyone advise on an approach to do this. I've tried lots of things and just cant seem to get it working. Thanks for any advice.
