  • Passing a panel widget to a function

    I have written a quite complex script which calls a server handler to refresh elements in a grid at the press of a button. For code re-use and consistent behaviour, I am wanting to call that server handler directly during the initial painting of the grid. When the server handler gets called by clicking on the button, all expected widgets are available and can be queried with e.parameter.widget etc. When I call the function directly and pass it the panel variable, the value of e is just 'AbsolutePanel'. Is there some way I can emulate the addCallbackElement way of passing the entire panel and all widgets it contains to the function? Or a way of automatically firing a server handler on script start? Please forgive any syntax errors below, I have pruned 500 lines of code down to the pertinent bits!   • Java application crashes my computer. How do I troubleshoot?

    I am using NetBeans 4.1 for my university course (this is an older version, but is the required version for the course - I can't use a newer version). Whenever I use it for longer than several minutes, my computer crashes - it either reboots or I need to reset it. I have tried running with all startup items disabled (to rule out other applications interfering with the app), but it did no good. I have used Sysinternals procmon logging and the logs are corrupt - the only way I was able to get a good log was by enabling boot logging. However these are huge and I don't know what to look for. I am using Windows XP SP3, fully patched up and this is the only application that I have any kind of problem with. Can anyone suggest troubleshooting steps that will help me pinpoint the cause of these crashes and fix them?

    Hi, I'm trying to use awk to parse an output generated by a java application, but it isn't working. It seems that the command after the pipe isn't able to get/see the data throwed by the java app. I'm executing the following command (with the return generated by the command): [root@localhost]# java -jar jmxclient.jar usr:pass host:port java.lang:type=Threading ThreadCount 06/11/2010 15:46:37 -0300 org.archive.jmx.Client ThreadCount: 103 What I need it's only the last part of the string. So I'm tryng to use awk (with pipe at the end of the line |awk -F ':' '{print $4}': [root@localhost]# java -jar jmxclient.jar usr:pass host:port java.lang:type=Threading ThreadCount|awk -F ':' '{print $4}' But the output isn't being parsed. It throws the entire string: 06/11/2010 15:46:37 -0300 org.archive.jmx.Client ThreadCount: 103 I also tryed to use |cut -f4 -d":" with the same result: the string isn't parsed. So my question is, how do I parse the output in order to get just the number at the end of the string? TIA, Bob

  • Webapp in Jetty can't find properties file after running a couple days

    I have a webapp running in Jetty on Mac OS 10.6. After a few days of it running and without the server losing power or rebooting, it seems to stop working saying it can't find a properties file. This properties file is included inside the .war file deployed to the /webapps directory. If I restart Jetty as the superuser the web service works again just fine. Can anyone lend any advice to what's going on and how I can fix it? The error being shown when it isn't working is: Problem accessing /my-web-service.     I am trying to run hadoop my Ubuntu OS. Clearly somehow it missed /lib/jvm folder.   • How to make Microsoft JVM work on Windows 7?

    I am struggling with the following problem. I cannot install MS JVM 3810 properly on Windows 7. When I start Interner Explorer 8 without starting any java 1.1 programs choosing Java custom settings under Internet options causes the crash of the browser. I have some Java 1.1 programs that work well in Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP after the installation of MS JVM 3810. I know that it is not advised to use this old JVM but it is not a short-term option to port the programs in newer Java since it contains 3rd party components. Complete rewrite is a long-term plan. Strangely jview and appletviewer (jview /a) works from a console so the MS JVM 3810 is not completely busted just IE 8 does not like it. The problem with the appletviewer is that it cannot connect to the server even if both signed and unsigned content in Java custom settings have been set to Enable all. (Since Java custom settings was unreachable due to the crash the modifications - including My computer - were performed through the registry and pre-checked to behave correctly on Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8.) If jview was working then I could at least think of a workaround. Is there a way to configure MS JVM or jview properly on Windows 7? Another options would be: Checking Internet Explorer 9 Beta. Using virtualbox and Windows XP older IE in it. Delaying Windows 7 upgrade. ... Update Finally we have modified all the programs to work parallelly as applet and application as well. This way the programs can still be used from browser on older Windows versions. On Windows 7 the applications are started from the desktop. Installation to all user machine can easily be solved since they already have a large common application drive. The code update is fortunately only a few lines of modification: including a main method in the applet class. Furthermore instead of the starting html page a bat file is used to set the classpath before the startup with jview.

    We have a legacy program that was ported from Java 1.3 to Java 1.5. This application involves applets which worked fine before. After porting however, the applet would not load. However there are no errors or exceptions. The app would just try to load it forever. We tried to run it with Java 1.6 and poof! No problems whatsoever. Isn't Java 6 backwards compatible?   • Java2D OpenGL Hardware Acceleration Doesn't Work

    It doesn't work with OpenGL with even the simplest of programs. Here is what I am doing.. java -Dsun.java2d.opengl=True -jar Java2Demo.jar (Java2Demo.jar is usually included with the JDK..) The text output is: OpenGL pipeline enabled for default config on screen 0 When I don't pass in the above VM argument things work fine (but slowly). When I do pass in the above argument nothing shows up... If I move the window around it captures whatever image it was on top of and jumbles it into nonsense. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 (Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]) (under Parallels on OS X 10.5.8) I used "Geeks3D GPU Caps Viewer" to tell me I have Open GL version: 2.0 NVIDIA-1.5.48 I have tried this with two version of the JVM.     I'm trying to install pylucene on Windows XP. I installed JDK on C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.6.0_18 . I also installed Visual Studio C++ Express to have a C++ compiler.     I am trying to detect a midair collision problem (simultaneous editin) using selenium.     I followed the Maven tutorial to the letter but I still can't get Maven installed. When I run the following in command prompt: E:\Documents and Settings\zach>mvn --version I get: 'mvn' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I navigated to the maven install folder and ran mvn --version and got: E:\java resources\apache-maven-2.2.0\bin>mvn --version ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory. JAVA_HOME = "E:\Sun\SDK\jdk\bin" Please set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the location of your Java installation but when I run java -version I get: java version "1.6.0_14" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_14-b08) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode) So I do have Java installed. Anyone know what the problem is?

  • Updating .class file in a jar throws exception

    I'm trying to port a wikimedia plugin to run on OpenVMS and needed to alter a class. I'm trying to update the .class file in the jar using jar uf jar-file .class-file, however when I do this I get the following: java.util.zip.ZipException: duplicate entry: META-INF/LICENSE.txt at java.util.zip.ZipOutputStream.putNextEntry(ZipOutputStream.java:175) at java.util.jar.JarOutputStream.putNextEntry(JarOutputStream.java:90) at sun.tools.jar.Main.update(Main.java:507) at sun.tools.jar.Main.run(Main.java:184) It turns out there are 2 LICENSE.txt files in the jar and I can't seem to get rid of them. Any ideas on how to just get the new .class file into the jar or how to get rid of the duplicate file?

    I'm in a very early stage of writing a small music/rhythm game in Java (via Slick framework, which in turns uses OpenAL, but that's probably irrelevant here). The game needs to read (and playback) several sound files in WAV format, but some of the files are throwing [javax.sound.sampled.UnsupportedAudioFileException] exceptions. at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(AudioSystem.java:1102) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.WaveData.create(WaveData.java:123) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.SoundStore.getWAV(SoundStore.java:713) at org.newdawn.slick.openal.SoundStore.getWAV(SoundStore.java:683) at org.newdawn.slick.Sound.<init>(Sound.java:33) The files can be played back just fine in Winamp or Foobar2000, so this means Java just don't recognize some variants of the file format. What are my options at this point? Note: The files in question are user-supplied, so i cannot just convert them beforehand (using something like audacity). Any conversion steps must be done at runtime.

    Well, I use a JFrame that adds two JPanels. Those JPanels are superclasses, because I find it easier to separate different areas of the GUI into different classes. But here's the problem: I add the (superclass) JPanel to the JFrame I set the layout of the superclass JPanel to new BorderLayout(); I add components in the subclasses, like this: JPanel panel = new JPanel(); panel.setLayout(new GridLayout(2,1)); panel.add(new JLabel("Label:"); panel.add(new JTextField(); add(panel, BorderLayout.NORTH); But it doesn't show. What do I do wrong? I've tried it without an additional JPanel in the subclasses, but it doesn't work either. I use jdk 1.6

    JPanel panel = new JPanel(null); panel.setSize(400, 400); panel.add(new JButton("Test")); panel.setCursor(Cursor.getCursor(Cursor.SOMETHING_SOMETHING_CURSOR)); The panel will have a custom cursor, but I don't want the button to have a custom cursor. I don't want to have to set the cursor of every sub component, because in my application I have many and I don't want to litter the code with setCursor statements. Is there a way, like overriding a method on the JPanel or something? A "contains" method somewhere is used to determine if a cursor needs to be set. Could I fool it into thinking the mouse is not in the container if it's really in a sub component? Any other nifty little trick?

    I have a PC running 64 bit Windows Server 2003. There is a java application which uses cmd file as a launcher. The launcher does this SET JAVA_HOME= C:\Progra~1\Java "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" [java program execution line] Java is installed in C:\Program Files\Java. Since it is a x64 windows it also has C:\Program Files (x86)\ folder. Now the actual problem is that from time to time this application fails to start because it fails to find java. So the question is what windows does to resolve such ambiguity? Based on what it makes decisions about which folder to choose?
