  • Do static / relative divs accept height in %

    I have a div which needs to be positioned statically / relatively. When it has both height and width defined in %, the browser (FF) ignores the height set and renders a very small div. However, when I set the height in px (approximately same calculated value), it works smoothly. The width defined in % works perfectly. I need the height to be defined in % as well - due to resolution / scaling issues.

  • How to configure Apache to let PHP handle OPTIONS HTTP requests?

    In order to set up a proper test suite for CORS (cross-domain requests) I need to be able to handle the HTTP OPTIONS method directly from script. I therefore have a simple PHP script that detects the OPTIONS method, and reacts accordingly by outputting some specific headers. The PHP side is not a problem. If I use curl to issue GET/POST/HEAD/PUT/etc. requests they all go to the script and it clearly handles them fine. If I issue an OPTIONS request however, it never reaches the script: Apache immediately replies listing a set of methods that it believes to be appropriate for this resource. I can tell that the script isn't run (no logging, none of its output makes it to the response, etc.). I've been going through the Apache configuration, have made sure no applicable .htaccess is in the way, I've tweaked a bunch of things such as Limit/LimitExcept directives, but I can't get it to change its behaviour. I've also tried to find information on a technique from my youth that could have helped here: NPH (non-parsed headers) scripts; but apparently that has now disappeared (at least, I can't find any recent information about it that works). So the question is: how do I tweak Apache's configuration so that it will let my script handle OPTIONS?

    I would like to implement something similar to the Google quick scroll extension with jquery for the extracts of a search result, so when the full document is opened (within the same website) it gives the user the opportunity to go straight to the extract location. Is there an existing jquery script for this? If not, can you suggest any jquery/javascript code that would simplify my task to implement this. Notes: I can access the extracts from the document details page. I'm aware that the HTML in some cases could be slightly different in the extract than in the details page, finding no match. The search engine does not return where the extract was located. At the moment I'm trying to understand the JS code that the extension uses.

    I have a realy hard task here. I am working on an AngularJS web app, which is capable of sending different HTTP methods to our project's Restful Web Service and receiving responses in JSON. Basicaly it looks like this: You can create some REST resource from this application. Let's say an exam. To create an exam - you pick a resource from a list of available resources. This triggers a function, that sends a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/resorceName and gets a description for this resource. Does anyone know how this can be achieved using angular recursive directive? Every useful answer is highly appreciated and evaluated.     I have an AJAX site and I'm using shebangs (#!) in my urls with the intention of then providing the correct HTML versions when google bots replace the #! with _escaped_fragment_. How do I go about routing/proxying/redirecting the url with _escaped_fragment_ to the corresponding html pages? I can't find documentation on this part of the process specifically, and my first thought was that I should be using a 301 or 302 redirect, but I was told that wasn't the case, albeit not given any more info.

    My problem is this: I want to create a grails domain instance, defining the 'Many' instances of another domain that it has.   • Changing html <-> ajax <-> php/mysql to threaded approach

    I have an application that needs to be updated real-time. There are various counters and other information that have to come from the database and the system needs to be up to date for the user. My approach now is just a normal ajax request every second to get the new values from the database. There is a JavaScript which loops every second getting the values trough ajax. This works fine but I think its very inefficient. The problem There is an ajax script that loops every second requesting data from php # On the server it has to load the PHP interpeter The PHP file has to get the data and format it correctly # PHP has to make a connection with the mysql database Work with the database(reads,never writes) Format the data so it can be send Send the data back to the browser # Close the database connection, and close the php interpeter Last the browser has to read these values and update the various html parts Now with this approach it has to load the interpreter and make a db connection every second. I was thinking of a way to make this more efficient, and maybe use a threaded approach to this. Threaded aprouch Do a post to the PHP when you enter the page and keep the connection alive In PHP only load the interpreter once, and make a connection to the DB ones Every second send an ajax response to the javascript listener The javascript listener than just changes values as the response from php arrives. I think this approach will be a great optimization to the server load and overall performance. But I can spot some weak point in the system and i need some help with these. Problems with the approach PHP execution time limit I don't think PHP is designed for such a setup. I know there is a time limit on php script execution. I don't know if an everlasting loop in PHP will cause any serious cpu/memory problems. Sending ajax request without breaking I don't know if it is possible to have just one ajax post action and have open and accepting data. user exists the page What will happen when the user exists the page and the PHP script is still going. Will it go on forever. security issues so far i can't think of any security issues. Almost every setup you use have some security issues. Maybe there are some with this solution I do not know of. Open to other solution I really want to change the setup as it is now and move to a threaded approach or better. If someone has a better approach to tackle this I definitely want to hear that. Maybe the usage of some other scripts is better suited for having an ongoing runtime. I only know php and java so any suggestions are welcome and I am willing to dig trough. I know there are things like perl, python etcetera that are used for this type of threaded but i don't know which one is best suited. When using other script If the best way is to go with other type of script like perl,python etcetera I do have some critera. The script has to be accessible via ajax post If it accepts some kind of json encode/decode it would be nice The script has to be able to access the session file This is essential because I need to know if the user is logged in The script has to be able to easily talk to MySQL All comments are welcome, and I hope this question is helpful to other also. When trying to delete one row in my table witch have the check box checked i found a problem with that.   • What are my tool options to prototype a 2D online multiplayer game?

    I'm looking for the best tool to allow me to quickly put together a 2D game that relies largely on networking. It's extremely likely that this game will require a server side program to constantly run. I have little experience with these things and since it's a prototype i'd like the easiest options for achieving this. I am looking to make this game for the web and mobile devices, although at present I only have access to ios hardware, (no android etc). I just want to get the bare bones of this set up so I can test it from the earliest opportunity to see if it's fun. EDIT - doesn't unity have some inbuilt networking stuff in it?

  • Building a six-screen setup. What video cards options are there?

    I'm building myself a nice setup with a massive amount of screen real estate. Since I had/have problems with video drivers in the past. I'm asking for advise here first. I want to connect at least six screens. What are the best options? What are the pitfalls? I preferably would not like to use closed binary blob drivers. usecase scenario: I'm writing a piece of software that has to interact with other systems. I would like to be able to see all of those systems, my code, lots of log files and documentation without the need to swap windows/screens. To just better see what im doing.
