Explicit casting doesn't work in default model binding

I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework. I am going to simplify the situation a little; hopefully it will make it clearer, not more confusing! I have a controller action to create address, and the country is a lookup table (in other words, there is a one-to-many relationship between Country and Address classes). Let's say for clarity that the field in the Address class is called Address.Land. And, for the purposes of the dropdown list, I am getting Country.CountryID and Country.Name. I am aware of Model vs. Input validation. So, if I call the dropdown field formLand - I can make it work. But if I call the field Land (that is, matching the variable in Address class) - I am getting the following error: "The parameter conversion from type 'System.String' to type 'App.Country' failed because no type converter can convert between these types." OK, this makes sense. A string (CountryID) comes from the form and the binder doesn't know how to convert it to Country type. So, I wrote the converter: namespace App { public partial class Country { public static explicit operator Country(string countryID) { AppEntities context = new AppEntities(); Country country = (Country) context.GetObjectByKey( new EntityKey("AppEntities.Countries", "CountryID", countryID)); return country; } } } FWIW, I tried both explicit and implicit. I tested it from the controller - Country c = (Country)"fr" - and it works fine. However, it never got invoked when the View is posted. I am getting the same "no type converter" error in the model. Any ideas how to hint to the model binder that there is a type converter? Thanks

Using JBoss EL with Websphere

Hey, I'm doing a project which is going to run on Websphere. I'm using JSF/Facelets/Richfaces for this project. I want to use the JBoss EL implementation as it allows calling methods with parameters from EL etc. ... usually this is accomplished by getting the JBoss EL jar and then putting this in the web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>com.sun.faces.expressionFactory</param-name> <param-value>org.jboss.el.ExpressionFactoryImpl</param-value> </context-param> However this isn't working ... I don't know if its a problem with Websphere or ...??? I get a stack trace when going to the page saying it can't parse the EL where I have passed a method a parameter: <a4j:commandLink value="Delete" action="#{mcsaAdmin.deleteLanguage(1234)}" /> Looking at the stacktrace it appears to still be using the standard sun EL: Caused by: javax.el.ELException: Error Parsing: #{mcsaAdmin.deleteLanguage(1234)} at com.sun.el.lang.ExpressionBuilder.createNodeInternal(Unknown Source) at com.sun.el.lang.ExpressionBuilder.build(Unknown Source) at com.sun.el.lang.ExpressionBuilder.createMethodExpression(Unknown Source) at com.sun.el.ExpressionFactoryImpl.createMethodExpression(Unknown Source) at com.sun.facelets.tag.TagAttribute.getMethodExpression(TagAttribute.java:141) Note the 'com.sun.el.ExpressionFactoryImpl' instead of 'org.jboss.el.ExpressionFactoryImpl' as specified above ... Resize and saving an image to disk in Monotouch

I'm trying to resize an image loaded from disk - a JPG or PNG (I don't know the format when I load it) - and then save it back to disk. I've got the following code which I've tried to port from objective-c, however I've got stuck on the last parts. Original Objective-C. Design Patterns Recommendation for Filtering Option

Hi people, I am thinking to create a filter object which filters and delete everything like html tags from a context. But I want it to be independent which means the design pattern I can apply will help me to add more filters in the future without effecting the current codes. I thought Abstract Factory but it seems it ain't gonna work out the way I want. So maybe builder but it looks same. I don't know I am kinda confused, some one please recommend me a design pattern which can solve my problem but before that let me elaborate the problem a little bit. Lets say I have a class which has Description field or property what ever. And I need filters which remove the things I want from this Description property. So whenever I apply the filter I can add more filter in underlying tier. So instead of re-touching the Description field, I can easily add more filters and all the filters will run for Description field and delete whatever they are supposed to delete from the Description context. I hope I could describe my problem. I think some of you ran into the same situation before. Thanks in advance...

InvalidCastException for two Objects of the same type

hi, I have this weird problem that I cannot handle myself. A class in the model of my mvp-project designed as singleton causes an InvalidCastException. The source of error is found in this code line where the deserialised object is assigned to the instance variable of the class: engineObject = (ENGINE)xSerializer.Deserialize(str); It occurs whenever I try to add one of my UserControls to a Form or to a different UC. All of my UCs have a special presenter that access the above mentioned instance variable of the singleton class. This is what I get when trying to add a UC somewhere: 'System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'MVP.Model.EngineData' threw an exception. ---- System.InvalidCastException: [A]Engine cannot be cast to [B]Engine. Type A originates from 'MVP.Model, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' in the context 'LoadNeither' at location '[...]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectAssemblies\uankw1hh01\MVP.Model.dll'. UIView animation VS core animation

I'm trying to animate a view sliding into view and bouncing once it hits the side of the screen. A basic example of the slide I'm doing is as follows: // The view is added with a rect making it off screen. The problem is when more than one view is being animated, the bounce becomes jerky and, well, doesn't bounce anymore. Before I start reading up on how to do this in Core Animation, (I understand it's a little more difficult) I'd like to know if there is actually an advantage using Core Animation rather than UIView animations. If not, is there something I can do to improve performance?

I've got a problem with the Entity Framework and the ForeignKeys. I've got a table "BC_Message_Assets" which has 3 FK's (MessageId, AssetId and StatusId). I create my "MessageAsset" like this MessageAsset messageAsset = new MessageAsset(); messageAsset.MessageStatusReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.MessageStatusSet", "Id", 1); messageAsset.AssetReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.AssetSet", "Id", 1); messageAsset.MessageReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.MessageSet", "Id", messageId); context.AddToMessageAssetSet(messageAsset); context.SaveChanges(); But I got the following exception : The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint \"FK_BC_Message_Assets_BC_Assets\". The conflict occurred in database \"Test\", table \"dbo.BC_Assets\", column 'Id'.\r\nThe statement has been terminated. When I look at the query, I notice that the parameter value for AssetId is "0" despite that I provided "1" to the EntityKey. Here's the generated query : exec sp_executesql N'insert [dbo].[BC_Message_Assets]([MessageId], [AssetId], [CompletionTime], [StatusId]) values (@0, @1, null, @2) ',N'@0 int,@1 int,@2 int',@0=47,@1=0,@2=1 I can't explain what happens. iPad: Move UIView with animation, then move it back

I have the following code in a UIView subclass that will move it off the screen with an animation: float currentX = xposition; //variables that store where the UIView is located float currentY = yposition; float targetX = -5.0f - self.width; float targetY = -5.0f - self.height; moveX = targetX - currentX; //stored as an instance variable so I can hang on to it and move it back moveY = targetY - currentY; [UIView beginAnimations:@"UIBase Hide" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; self.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(moveX,moveY); [UIView commitAnimations]; It works just great. I've changed targetX/Y to 0 to see if it does indeed move to the specified point, and it does. The problem is when I try and move the view back to where it was originally: moveX = -moveX; moveY = -moveY; [UIView beginAnimations:@"UIBase Show" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; self.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(moveX,moveY); [UIView commitAnimations]; This puts the UIView about 3x as far as it should. So the view usually gets put off the right side of the screen (depending on where it is). Is there something with the CGAffineTransforMakeTranslation function that I should know? I read the documentation, and from what I can tell, it should be doing what I'm expecting it to do. Anyone have a suggestion of how to fix this? Thanks.

Click in a ListView item changes status of elements inside the item?

Hi, I don't know exactly how to explain this problem, but I'll try. I have a ListView with several items. Each item has inside a TextView and two ImageView. I want the ImageView change when I click on them, and I want to open a context menu when I press for a long time into the ListView item. For the ImageView, everything works properly. For the whole item, I can show the context menu after a long press, but my problem is that the ImageView changes as well when I am pressing the TextView, for example. CGContextSetShadow() - shadow direction reversed between iOS 3.0 and 4.0?

I've been using CGContextSetShadowWithColor() in my Quartz drawing code on the iPhone to generate the "stomped in" look for text and other things (in drawRect: and drawLayer:inContext:). Worked perfectly, but when running the exact same code against iOS 3.2 and now iOS 4.0 I noticed that the shadows are all in the opposite direction. E.g. in the following code I set a black shadow to be 1 pixel above the text, which gave it a "pressed in" look, and now this shadow is 1px below the text, giving it a standard shadow. ... CGContextSetShadowWithColor(context, CGSizeMake(0.f, 1.f), 0.5f, shadowColor); CGContextShowGlyphsAtPoint(context, origin.x, origin.y, glyphs, length); ... Now I don't know whether I am (or have been) doing something wrong or whether there has been a change to the handling of this setting. I haven't applied any transformation that would explain this to me, at least not knowingly. I've flipped the text matrix in one instance, but not in others and this behavior is consistent. Plus I wasn't able to find anything about this in the SDK Release Notes, so it looks like it's probably me. What might be the issue?

Why would Basic Auth not work with my WCF client to Java SOAP Web Service?

I have a Java based web service that requires basic authentication to communicate with it. If I type the WSDL url into my browser I'm prompted for Basic Auth. Which I can get by entering the correct credentials. However using my WCF client doesn't work. Increasing Max Upload File Size on IIS7/Win7 Pro

I'm setting up a server for a client (something I don't typically do), and I'm running into issues with uploading larger files (11MB). The server is running Windows 7 Professional with IIS added. In web.config I've tried setting <system.web> <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="65536" />  </system.web> ... and that doesn't work. I've set <system.webSecurity> <security> <requestFiltering> <requestLimits maxAllowedContentLength="68157440" /> </requestFiltering> </security> </system.webSecurity> ... and that doesn't work either. What am I missing here? As I've said, I don't typically set up servers, so I may be missing something obvious... no suggestion will be scoffed at! Thanks in advance.

Jmock mock DAO object

Hi all, I wrote a method that retrieves certain list of strings, given a correct string key. Now when I create a list(the one to be retrieved by method descibed in previous sentence) and create test I can easily get results and test passes successfully. Now on the other hand if I save the content of this list to database in 2 columns, key and value I wrote a class which retrieves this items with method inside it. And when I print it out to console the expected results are correct, now I initialize my DAO from application context where inside its bean it gets session and because of DAO works. Now I'm trying to write a test which will mock the DAO, because I'm running test localy not on the server .. so I told jmock to mock it : private MyDAO myDAO; in the setup() myDAO = context.mock(MyDAO.class); I think I'm mocking it correctly or not, how can I mock this data from database? what is the best way? Is there somewhere good Jmock documentation? on their official site its not very good and clear, you have to know what you seek in order to find it, can't discover something cool in the mean time.

Multiple overlay items in android

I seem to be having a problem with using ItemizedOverlay and OveralyItems in it. I can get the first overlayItem to appear on the map but not any items after that. Creating Array of settings names and values using ADO.NET Entities

I'm using an ADO.NET Entities (.edmx) data-model along with MVC2 to build an application. I have a DB table where I want to store settings for method that run elsewhere. MVC2 allows me to create a view, editor, etc. to update this table which is great, but now when I want to do simple assignments based on column titles I'm a bit confused. For example, I would like to easily build an array that I could offset into the record's value based on it's "Title" Column: var entities = new ManagerEntities(); Setting[] settings = entities.settings.ToArray(); This returns something like: Settings[0].[SettingTitle][SettingValue] However, I would like to more easily index into the value than having to loop through all the returned settings, when they're already index. string URL_ID_NEED = [NeededUrl][http://www.url.com] Am I missing something relatively simple? Thanks! ========================= *Update* ========================= Ok, I think I've got a solution, but I'm wondering why this would be so complicated, and if I'm just not thinking of the right context for ADO.NET objects, here's what I did: public string GetSetting(string SettingName) { var entities = new LabelManagerEntities(); IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, object>> entityKeyValues = new KeyValuePair<string, object>[] { new KeyValuePair<string, object>("SettingTitle", SettingName) }; EntityKey key = new EntityKey("LabelManagerEntities.Settings", entityKeyValues); // Get the object from the context or the persisted store by its key. Setting settingvalue = (Setting)entities.GetObjectByKey(key); return settingvalue.SettingValue.ToString(); } This method handles the job of querying the Entities by "Key" to get back the correct value as a returned string (which I can than strip out the " ", or or cast to an integer, etc. etc.,) Am I just duplicating functionality that already exists in ADO.NET's design patterns (I'm pretty new to it) -- or is this a reasonable solution?
