• Hyper-V VMs hanging 10 minutes after startup

  Hyper-V running under a fresh install of 2008 R2 DC 2 VMs both running 2008 R2 STD One VM has SQL 2008 Server w/ SP2 and Office 2007 Enterprise w/ SP2 Othe VMS only Office 2007 w/ SP2. Approximately 10 minutes after reboot the Hyuper-V host the VMs will hang Hang = answers pings, but no RDP connections and Hyper-V console session is non responsive Disabled Hyper-V and had no proble with 2008 R2 DC host. Started the three Hyper-V services and 10 minutes later was hung again. Hardware is HP DL380 G4 2 socket, 48 GB, Internal SAS controller 1.5TB C drive VMs .VHDs are on external SAS controller on a 1.5 TB RAID5 volume. Nothing in event log on either VMs or Hyper-V host. • RDP issue..RDP not working providing logon to access on user id

  I got a request to provide logon to access to one of Windows 2008 server, after I added this server on user's logon to list and given local admin access to server. I am not able to take RDP session. Its giving error.. Local Security authority failed to connect... I see Event ID 56 ..Source Termdd When I given access to Windows 2003 it working fine.. • When I try to click and launch some of the links set to open in new window, it is being treated as a pop-up window [migrated]

  For the past few days, we are facing issue with the chrome browser behavior. This is related to opening links set to open in new tab/window. The details are as follow: I have a collection of links and each link points to different resource to be opened in a new tab/window. The code is as follow: <a class="cssClass" rid="1114931" href="http://www.domain.com/resources/abc.html" title="Link1" tabindex="4">Link 1</a> And there are few checks/filters over accessing the resources which have been implemented as onClick handler over the links. In case any of the validations fails, the onClick handler returns false and the default behavior of the link does not happens i.e. links does not get open. One of such (last) checks includes AJAX call in sync mode. In case all of the checks are passed and onClick handler returns true, sometimes the resource get opened in a new tab/window and sometimes it get opened as a pop-up (which should never). Tried to capture any pattern but could not succeed. Any solution or even helping in understanding behavior would be really appreciated.

If this parameter is not explicitly specified, then database commit behavior defaults to writing commit records to disk before control is returned to the client. If only IMMEDIATE or BATCH is specified, but not WAIT or NOWAIT, then WAIT mode is assumed. • IIS 7 503 error, application pool stop crash, defdoc.dll could not be loaded due to a configuration

  Hi All, Currently trying to get iis 7 to work, but every time I request a page, the application pool goes into stopped status. In the event log this is what comes back. The Module DLL 'C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\defdoc.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. The current configuration only supports loading images built for a x86 processor architecture. The data field contains the error number. I've already re installed iis, any other ideas, I read that someone fixed this by downloading the dll again, but this seems like an odd solution. Thanks. EDIT I have now replaced the file with one I downloaded off the internet, and now it says The Module DLL 'C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\protsup.dll' could not be loaded due to a configuration problem. I hope I don't have to get 100's of these.

• Cannot apply unity --reset after modifying files

  So I have an idea of what I did wrong, I am just not sure how to fix it. • hp smart array lock up code 0x15, what is that? (or where can I get a list of descriptions of HP smart array controller lock up codes)

  Hi, I've had a couple of Dl180 6g boxes hung over the last week, each have a P410 smart array controller. upon reboot the server has indicated that a controller failure event occurred and the previous lock up code was 0x15 - the server rebooted without issue. However there was nothing in the IML log, but the ADU report provided the following; Trap Address High Or Post Results Lockup Reason Or Post Error RIS Updates Or Post Error Detail Firmware Version Trap Address Low 0x8087 0x0015 0x0000033e 0x015e 0xd65c any suggestions on what that code is, my google fu failed. And hp support have not responded with any detail as yet.

• Vista Startup Repair cannot repair my Toshiba Laptop (L300D)

  I installed some updates, and now the computer doesn't boot up, it just keep's telling me to go to repair, which doesn't fix the problem. I see the BSOD on startup, but it flashes by too quick. • Unity Plugin DLLNotFoundException

  I am using a plugin DLL that I created in Visual C++ Express 2010 on windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition. The DLL functions properly on the machine that it was originally created on. The problem is that the DLL is not functioning in the Unity3d Editor on another machine and giving an error that basically states that the DLL is missing some of its dependencies. The target machine is running Windows 7 Home 64 bit (if this is relevant) Results from the error log of Dependency Walker: Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "c:\users\dewayne\desktop\shared\vrpnplugin\unityplugin\build\release\OPTITRACKPLUGIN.DLL" contains errors. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail (14001). Error: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in an implicitly dependent module. Error: Modules with different CPU types were found. Warning: At least one delay-load dependency module was not found. Warning: At least one module has an unresolved import due to a missing export function in a delay-load dependent module. • Elastic versus Distributed in caching.

  Until now, I hadn't heard about Elastic Caching yet. Today I read Mike Gualtieri's Blog entry. I immediately thought about Oracle Coherence and got a little scare throughout the reading. Elastic Caching is the next step after Distributed Caching. As we've always positioned Coherence as a Distributed Cache, I thought for a brief instance that Oracle had missed a new trend/technology. But then I started reading the characteristics of an Elastic Cache. Forrester definition: Software infrastructure that provides application developers with data caching services that are distributed across two or more server nodes that consistently perform as volumes grow can be scaled without downtime provide a range of fault-tolerance levels Hey wait a minute, doesn't Coherence fullfill all these requirements? Oh yes, I think it does! The next defintion in the article is about Elastic Application Platforms. This is mainly more of the same with the addition of code execution. Now there is analytics functionality in Oracle Coherence. The analytics capability provides data-centric functions like distributed aggregation, searching and sorting. Coherence also provides continuous querying and event-handling. I think that when it comes to providing an Elastic Application Platform (as in the Forrester definition), Oracle is close, nearly there. And what's more, as Elastic Platform is the next big thing towards the big C word, Oracle Coherence makes you cloud-ready ;-) There you go! Find more info on Oracle Coherence here.

• SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services - Configuration Manager & Management Studio Problems

  When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Additional information: The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt) Information about my environment: Server: Win Server 2K3 x64, SQL 2005 x64 SP3 Build 9.0.4053 Desktop: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Steps I have already taken: I have installed the latest service pack on my server and workstation. I do not see any errors in my event logs.

• Windows Vista SP2 and DEP Woes for Older Program

  I have a database client (4D 2004 Client... which, for the record, I vehemently hate but am forced to use because our company is still running this) that I'm trying to run in Windows Vista SP2. I've added the program to the DEP Exceptions list (per a 4D tech article detailing this problem... sorry, can't find the link now) and restarted the computer, but every time I try to log-in to our remote database, the program is shut down by Vista, citing a DEP event. And yes, I have restarted the computer several times, so the new DEP settings should be in effect. I'm a bit confused at this since I specifically added the 4DClient.exe to the DEP Exception list! I realize that very few (if any) of you might have this exact problem with this exact program, but can anyone shed light on the fact that DEP still seems to be enabled for a program that I've specifically added to the DEP exception list?!?

  Recently face very interesting situation, during presentations at event, I was asked very famous questions: “My CPU is very high all the time, how can I reduce it?” This is very interesting question and there are many answers and a single blog post is not good enough to justify this subject. This was the first iSeminar in our quarterly series to showcase UPK Professional (UPK and Knowledge Pathways). Donna Miller and Staci Gilbert gave viewers an inside look at samples of Medtronic's content as they shared their experiences, methodology and best practices for use of the solution. Here are some highlights of the call: • Medtronic initially purchased UPK Professional to support a multi-year, global SAP rollout for 9,000 end users located in 24 countries. • As time went on, they expanded their use of UPK Professional to include several of their other enterprise applications: PeopleSoft, Siebel CRM, Hyperion Financial Management, a number of SAP bolt-ons, Documentum, TrackWise, and many others. • In combination with their Saba LMS, UPK Professional has allowed Medtronic to create, deploy, track and certify consistent end user training for critical transactions and processes across their organization worldwide - essential for a company in a heavily regulated industry. • For key pieces of content or certain end user populations, some Medtronic business units localize/translate the global UPK content. Staci demonstrated examples of their SAP content which has been translated into Japanese. • In the live SAP environment, end users rely on UPK's context sensitive in-application performance support. Medtronic has found this to be very helpful post go-live, giving just-in-time support so end users are confident in a new system or when performing tasks they don't often touch (at quarter or year end). UPK also serves as Medtronic's internal Google. • Medtronic has realized savings on many fronts: reduction in support calls due to in-application performance support, elimination of their training clients, and speedier training (1.5 days rather than 5-7 days) of temporary workers by moving from ILT to a blended solution that includes UPK simulations for eLearning. • Twitter API Voting System

  So I blatantly got this idea from the MIX 10 event. At MIX they held a rockband talent competition type thing (I’m not quite sure of all the details).    But the interesting part for me is how they collected votes. They used Twitter (what else, when you have a few thousand geeks available to you). • Is it safe to disable nmi_watchdog?

  I'm using RHEL 6 (kernel 2.6.32-131) and I'm trying to start oprofile, but I keep getting an error. My oprofile version is 0.9.6-12. I was able to successfully do opcontrol --init But when I did a opcontrol --start --no-vmlinux I got the error Using default event: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:100000:0:1:1 Error: counter 0 not available nmi_watchdog using this resource ? Try: opcontrol --deinit echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/nmi_watchdog I don't know if it's safe for me to do this? For what I googled, it seems that nmi_watchdog is used to reboot the system if it hangs, and that sounds like something I want. Also, grep NMI /proc/interrupts shows a bunch of numbers, which I guess indicates that nmi_watchdog is already running? How can I run both oprofile and nmi_watchdog?

• GPO Startup script did not execute on some computers

  The GPO Startup scripts works fine on other machine but not for another half of the machine. gpresult show that GPO was there. I ran RSOP and it show that the Startup script was there but it was never executed. There nothing on application error or anything related to the failed execution in the event viewer. I have set to Allow slow network connection too but it did not help for the startup script to execute. Permission read/execute granted to Domain Computers & Authenticated Users Other GPO settings works except Startup Script did not execute. The scripts works fine as other machine which success without any issue except some machine. I need help to sort this out as it troubles me where another half of the machine did not execute the script at all. It was all WIndows 7.

• Windows Server 2008 Task Scheduler Tasks Not Executing

  I've been having an intermittent problem for some time now with the Windows Task Scheduler that I can't work out. I use the task scheduler to run a C# app I've written that has various plugins used to ensure production systems are working. This task scheduler itself is actually a production system so I have one simple task that executes every 8 minutes to notify an external monitoring system that the task scheduler is still up. If this external service fails to receive an "all-clear" at least once every 15 minutes (or so I don't remember the exact number right now) it will message us that the monitoring system is down. In the past we've had intermittent "down" messages from time to time and each time I've investigated the cause I was unable to find any problems. So this time I wanted to ask the StackOverflow community since it doesn't look like I'll have luck on my own. This morning at 2:32 AM the task fired (exactly 8 minutes after the previous firing) however the task didn't fire again until 3:28. There are no errors that I can see in the Event Viewer at this time. When I look at the Task Scheduler log there are no errors there either. I also have two other C# apps that run and check something each hour on the hour using task scheduler. If I look at the history for those I can see that they didn't execute at 3 AM either! They all waited until 3:28 to start as well. If I look at "tasks completed" in the Event Viewer it shows that only one task was able to run between the 2:32 AM to 3:28 AM time period. • Frank Buytendijk on Prahalad, Business Best Practices

    In his video on the questionable value of some business best practices, Frank Buytendijk mentions a recent HBR article by business guru C.K. Prahalad. I just learned that Prahalad passed away this past weekend at the age of 68. (Information Week obit) A couple of years ago I had the good fortune to attend Mr. Prahalad’s keynote address at a Gartner event.  He had an audience of software architects absolutely mesmerized as he discussed technology’s role in the changing nature of business competition.  The often dysfunctional relationship between IT and business has and will probably always be hot-button issue. But during Prahalad’s keynote,  there was a palpable sense that the largely technical audience was having some kind of breakthrough, that they had achieved a new level of understanding about the importance of the relationship between the two camps. Fortunately, Prahalad leaves behind a significant body of work that will remain a valuable resource as business and the technology that supports it continues to evolve.
