• MVC using LINQ? - Can't return anonymous types

  I'd like to implement MVC while using LINQ (specifically, LINQ-to-entities). The way I would do this is have the Controller generate (or call something which generates) the result-set using LINQ, then return that to the View to display the data. The problem is, if I do: return (from o in myTable select o); All the columns are read from the database, even the ones (potentially dozens) I don't want. And - more importantly - I can't do something like this: return (from o in myTable select new { o.column }); because there is no way to make anonymous types type-safe! I know for sure there is no nice, clean way of doing this in 3.5 (this is not clean...), but what about 4.0? Is there anything planned, or even proposed? Without something like duck-typing-for-LINQ, or type-safe anonymous return values (it seems to me the compiler should certainly be capable of that), it appears to be nearly impossible to cleanly separate the Controller from the View.

  Can one upload files to a domain other than the domain a script originates from? • Passing a ManagedObjectContext to a second view

  I'm writing my first iPhone/Cocoa app. It has two table views inside a navigation view. When you touch a row in the first table view, you are taken to the second table view. I would like the second view to display records from the CoreData entities related to the row you touched in the first view. I have the CoreData data showing up fine in the first table view. You can touch a row and go to the second table view. I'm able to pass info from the selected object from the first to the second view. But I cannot get the second view to do its own CoreData fetching. For the life of me I cannot get the managedObjectContext object to pass to the second view controller. I don't want to do the lookups in the first view and pass a dictionary because I want to be able to use a search field to refine results in the second view, as well as insert new entries to the CoreData data from there. • ActionController::MethodNotAllowed

  I have a rails model called 'audioclip'. I orginally created a scaffold with a 'new' action, which I replaced with 'new_record' and 'new_upload', becasue there are two ways to attach audio to this model. Going to /audioclips/new_record doesn't work because it takes 'new_record' as if it was an id. Instead of changing this, I was trying to just create '/record_clip' and '/upload_clip' paths. So in my routes.db I have: map.record_clip '/record_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_record' map.upload_clip '/upload_clip', :controller => 'audioclips', :action => 'new_upload' When I navigate to /record_clip, I get ActionController::MethodNotAllowed Only get, head, post, put, and delete requests are allowed. I'm not extremely familiar with the inner-workings of routing yet. What is the problem here? (If it helps, I have these two statements above map.resources = :audioclips

• Kohana 3: Example of model with validation

  I find examples and tutorials about models and about validation. And I places that say the validation (or most of it at least) should be in the model, which I agree with. But I can't any examples or tutorials that show how that should be done. Could anyone help me with a simple example on how that could be done? Where would you have the rules in the model? Where would the validation happen? How would the controller know if the validation passed or fail? How would the controller get error messages and things like that? Hope someone can help, cause feel a bit lost here :p

  How is SAML SSO typically implemented? I've read this about using SAML with Google Apps, and the wikipedia entry on SAML. The wikipedia entry talks about responding with forms containing details of the SAMLRequest and SAMLResponse. Does this mean that the user has to physically submit the form in order to proceed with the single sign on? The google entry talks about using redirects, which seems more seemless to me. However, it also talks about using a form for the response which the user must submit (although it does talk about using JavaScript to automatically submit the form). Is this the standard way of doing this? Using redirects and JavaScript for form submission? Does anyone know of any other good resources about how to go about implementing SSO between a Windows Domain and a J2EE web application. The web application is on a separate network/domain. My client wants to use CA Siteminder (with SAML).

But I have a different situation and I don't think I'm understanding this to well. I have an Apache 2 server (server1) that will receive http request for my application. Then I have two more servers (server2 and server3) with Web Logic 9.2 runing on ports 7000 (server1) and 8000 (server2). I want the users to enter appname.domain.com and be redirected between the two web logic servers, always keeping appname.domain.com (this is hidding servername:port from URL). I need to control access to each franchise's services based on the roles a user is assigned for that franchise. 4 examples: Receptionist should be able to book service jobs in for her "Atlantic Seaboard" franchise, but not do any reporting. Technician should be able to alter service jobs, but not modify invoices. Managers should be able to apply discount to invoices for jobs within their stores. Owner should be able to pull reports for any franchises he owns. Where should franchise-level access control fit in between the Data - Services - Web layer? If it belongs in my Controllers, how should I best implement it? • Why are emails sent from my applications being marked as spam?

  Hi. I have 2 web apps running on the same server. The first is www.nimikri.com and the other is www.hourjar.com. Both apps share the same IP address (75.127.100.175). My server is through a shared hosting company. I've been testing my apps, and at first all my emails were being delivered to me just fine. Then a few days ago every email from both apps got dumped into my spam box (in gmail and google apps). So far the apps have just been sending emails to me and nobody else, so I know people aren't manually flagging them as spam. I did a reverse DNS lookup for my IP and the results I got were these: 100.127.75.in-addr.arpa NS DNS2.GNAX.NET. 100.127.75.in-addr.arpa NS DNS1.GNAX.NET. Should the reverse DNS lookup point to nimikri.com and hourjar.com, or are they set up fine the way they are? I noticed in the email header these 2 lines: Received: from nimikri.nimikri.com From: Hour Jar <[email protected]> Would the different domain names be causing gmail to think this is spam?   Rails is doing my head in. I'm trying now to put something together to pull screen scraped data from site X through to client Y via a ruby script on server Z I don't want views, I just want the request to look like domain.com/action/method Inside routes.rb I have: match ':controller(/:action(/:id(.:format)))' But it still won't work. I just get ActionView::MissingTemplate in the log. Achtung! If I deliberately put a faulty method in that subsequently calls render - the log file indicates the method executed badly, so I don't think it's something wrong with the "action" controller.

  I am using the VSSConveter.exe tool to import from VSS6 (using 2005 ide) to TFS2008. I have run analyze (no errors) and migrate WITH a user mapping file (containg the vss/domain user mappings) I would like to persist in tfs the check-in user of the file, currently the check-in user for all versions of file shows as admin (the account im running the import with), the origional check-in user is appended to the check-in comment. For example:- TestFile.aspx in VSS Check in ver: 1 - User:Adam - Comment:TEST1 Check in ver: 2 - User:James - Comment:TEST2 Check in ver: 3 - User:Joel - Comment:TEST2 After import into TFS Check in ver: 1 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST1 (Commited by Adam) Check in ver: 2 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST2 (Commited by James) Check in ver: 3 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST2 (Commited by Joel) In TFS I want the user to show as the correct domain user as configured in my user mapping file. • iPad modal form sheet takes up the whole screen anyways

  I'm trying to create a form sheet modal on iPad, which should be a 540x620 modal view. I've created a view controller with a NIB file whose view is a 540x620 sized UIView (with stuff on it). I set the modal presentation style to UIModalPresentationFormSheet, and call presentModalViewController:animated: on the current view controller. My view slides in from the bottom, but instead of being a form sheet, it takes up the whole screen (my view elements are all anchored in the top left of the screen). Even stranger, when I dismiss it, all the UI that was "underneath" it, is all re-layed out to be in the center, in approximately a form sheet sized area in the center of the screen. Bizarro! Anyone have any suggestions as to what could cause this behavior? Thanks.

I'm wondering how Live ID accomplish similar functionality. It seems the info is not exchanged through query string in URL. And, since Live ID login server have different domain name from consumer domain, it is not applicable to transfer info through cookie. I tried to google tutorial of Live ID, but the result is full of jargon and hard to understand. Is there any easy-to-understand tutorial about How Live ID works?

  I have a table view controller with multiple UISwitch controls in them. I set the delegate to the table view controller with the same action for all switches. I need to be able to determine what switch was changed, so I create an array of strings that contains the name of each switch. The indexes in the array will be put in the tag property of each UISwitch. However, I'm ready using the tag property for something else, namely to find the right control in the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath with viewWithTag! (There are several things I need to set within each cell.) So, am I thinking along the right lines here? I feel I'm rather limited in how I find out exactly which UISwitch changed its value, so I can do something useful with it.

I have done everything it says in the documentation, installed warden and the correct Devise version, run the install and used the generator to create the model. But when I try to access the sign up form (localhost:3000/users/sign_up) all I get is No route matches "/users/sign_up" But when I run rake routing I get the following: ...   I have a master page, which has a style sheet, which has the following line: .idle { background-image: url( '../../Images/blue_bg.png' ); } All my pages inherit from this master page. And this works well when the URL is http://www.domain.com/home/details/5, however the URL is http://www.domain.com/home/create, then, of course, blue_bg.png cannot be found because `../../Images/blue_bg.png' resolves to a directory one higher where there is nothing there. I tried the trick suggested by @codemeit in a similar question, but I can't plop down C# in a style sheet, can I? How is this typically handled?

• C# ASPNET MVC - How do you use ModelState.IsValid in a jquery/ajax postback?

  From what I've seen ModelState.IsValid is only calculated by the MVC frame work on a full postback, is that true? I have a jquery postback like so: var url = "/path/to/controller/myaction"; var id = $("#Id").val(); var somedata = $("#somedata").val(); // repeated for every textbox $.post(url, { id: id, somedata: somedata }, function (data) { // etc }); And the controller action looks like: public JsonResult MyAction(MyModel modelInstance) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { // ... ModelState.IsValid is always true, even when there is invalid data } } But this does not seem to trigger ModelState.IsValid. For example if somedata is 5 characters long, but the DataAnnotation says [StringLength(3)] - in this case ModelStae.IsValid is still true, because it hasn't been triggered. Is there something special I need to do when making a jquery/ajax post instead of a full post? Thanks!
