  • What do you name your files when using MVC?

    When using the MVC pattern, which I'm not terribly experienced with, I find myself naming things like this: /app/views/widget.php /app/models/widget.php /app/controllers/widget.php That appeals to me because it's easy to find associated classes, and I lean towards shorter names when practical. However, when I'm looking in my IDE, I see three different files called widget.php, which is confusing. I'm tempted to add "_v", "_c", "_m" or something to each name. How do you handle this? FWIW, I'm using CodeIgniter at the moment, and I don't know if there are any special benefits to using a particular convention, or any standard practices. Regardless, I'm intersted in the best-practices from various platforms.

  • How to structure Javascript programs in complex web applications?

    Hi there. I have a problem, which is not easily described. I'm writing a web application that makes heavy usage of jquery and ajax calls. Now I don't have experience in designing the architecture for javascript programms, but I realize that my program has not a good structure. I think I have to many identifiers referring to the same (at least more or less) thing. Let's have an exemplary look at an arbitrary UI widget: The eventhandlers use DOM elements as parameters. The DOM element represents a widget in the browser. A lot of times I use jQuery objects (I think they are basically a wrapper around DOM elements) to do something with the widget. Sometimes they are used transiently, sometimes they are stored in a variable for later purposes. The ajax function calls use strings identifiers for these widgets. They are processed server side. Beside that I have a widget class whose instances represents a widget. It is instantiated through the new operator. Now I have somehow four different object identifiers for the same thing, which needs to be kept in sync until the page is loaded anew. This seems not to be a good thing. Any advice?

The user will click on my widget, I get an instance of the Camera(if it's not already stored), use it, then store it. If they click the widget again, I want to use that same instance that I used previously. Is this possible?

  • Why are these divs not aligned and space between?

    Why isnt everything aligned? No yellow should be visible and no orange should be visible except for the right side and bottom left where theres space for another image. Basically my images are pretty much aligned to the center (i have other pics not in this example which is easier to see). However in this case when i have 150px height image the 150 width seems start lower.   • Insane SmartGWT + GWT situation... Error on instantiating ListGridRecord?

    Hi all, I am asking this here in the hope that someone has maybe come across this situation too... I have posted this on the SmartGWT forum: I am having an issue when trying to instantiate a ListGridRecord object on my server side. I am using the ListGrid on the client side, I want to use GWT's RPC to pass back an array of ListGridRecord objects to populate the grid with. I know that SmartGWT is designed to link to a datasource but I want full control over when I populate the grid and this shouldn't be as much of a nightmare as it is to do. I have searched high and low and cannot find anyone complaining about the same thing. The exception however (listed below) has come up (in my search findings) as a possible memory error - where increasing the memory (-Xmx512m argument) has apparently solved the problem. It did not, however, sort out mine. If anyone can shed any light on this I would greatly appreciate it! Here are my details: Developing using Eclipse Galileo on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) and GWT 2.0.3, I built the initial GWT project using the webAppCreator bundled with the GWT 2.0.3 release and imported the project into Eclipse as described on the GWT Getting Started Page (as using the GWT Eclipse plugin caused even more nightmares when trying to connect to a database - this is apparently due to using the Google App Engine and turning it off as all the posts suggested only causes ClassNotFound exceptions).     Hi I try to realize simple code on perl which should just get/send messages from/to gtalk accounts. I use Net::XMPP::* modules. All works just fine for users, who are my friends (in my "buddy" list). But i can't send message to unknown user. I know, that for this case i must send an invitation first, but Net::XMPP::* don't provide this possibility. There is only one way to invite person - construct my own xml according to "XEP-0155 Stanza Session Negotiation" protocol. But this doesn't work correct. When i send xml to server, it returns error "service-unavailable".     If I have widget company called "Widget Designer" and I have a direct competitor who has "Widgitator Version 5", am I allowed to target a campaign using the literal keywords "Widgitator"? Is this OK? Will they ever find out? Is it bad business? Update I can't really say what the words are, but this is a good example, if my product is called "Chair-o-matic" and it makes chairs, and a competitors is called "Chair Maker 5" can I target the keyword pair "Chair Maker"?
