• How do I create a named temporary file on windows in Python?

  I've got a Python program that needs to create a named temporary file which will be opened and closed a couple times over the course of the program, and should be deleted when the program exits. Unfortunately, none of the options in tempfile seem to work: TemporaryFile doesn't have a visible name NamedTemporaryFile creates a file-like object. I just need a filename. I've tried closing the object it returns (after setting delete = False) but I get stream errors when I try to open the file later. SpooledTemporaryFile doesn't have a visible name mkstemp returns both the open file object and the name; it doesn't guarantee the file is deleted when the program exits mktemp returns the filename, but doesn't guarantee the file is deleted when the program exits I've tried using mktemp1 within a context manager, like so: def get_temp_file(suffix): class TempFile(object): def __init__(self): self.name = tempfile.mktemp(suffix = '.test') def __enter__(self): return self def __exit__(self, ex_type, ex_value, ex_tb): if os.path.exists(self.name): try: os.remove(self.name) except: print sys.exc_info() return TempFile() ... but that gives me a WindowsError(32, 'The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process'). The filename is used by a process my program spawns, and even though I ensure that process finishes before I exit, it seems to have a race condition out of my control. What's the best way of dealing with this? 1 I don't need to worry about security here; this is part of a testing module, so the most someone nefarious could do is cause our unit tests to spuriously fail. • How do I generate a core dump from apache

  I have a script which intermittently returns a white screen of death in firefox and Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): Unknown error. chrome. When I try to access the script using a PHP HTTP client (like Zend_Http_Client), intermittently I get an exception (sorry I don't have the exact message on me at the moment). I suspect a segfault. This is further buttressed by the lines in my error log that look like this: [Thu Mar 18 16:03:02 2010] [notice] child pid 845 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Now, I'm running RedHat, and I know that RedHat doesn't generate core dumps out-of-the-box. Have looked everywhere on SO for this specific error but found nothing relating to com.google.android.gms.checkin A little bit about my structural hierarchy. MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity with three tabs underneath actionbar. Each tab has it's own fragment. On the gMapFragment I create a GPSTrack object from my GPSTrack class which extends Service and implements LocationListener. The problem is that when I start the application I get this message: I have all my libraries imported properly and I even added the google-play-services.jar into my libs folder. I also installed Google Play Services APKs through CMD onto my emulator. Furthermore the LocationManager lm = = (LocationManager) mContext.getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE); in my GPSTrack class always returns null. Why is this and how can I fix these issues?   I'm having this weird problem, where including the phonegap.js file in my project causes the app to crash on both the android emulator and my phone. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download... • SBS2003 OWA not displaying images on external side

  I've got an SBS 2003 server with companyweb/remote owa site. After authenticating remotely to the https:/servername/remote site, and then clicking on Use Outlook Web Access, the mail/owa site displays only limited amounts of data with Loading... displayed (see first image). This is different when viewing the site on the server itself (see second image). Different browsers will display different types of data (last screenshot is Chrome - first two are IE). I feel IIS permissions on the virtual directories is the cause, but not certain. Forms-based authentication etc is working ok etc. Any suggestions? Authentication and getting email via ActiveSync is not a problem. I don't want to break anything, and it's not a major problem because the users only get their email via outlook and iphones anyway without problems. I'm more interested in finding out for my own info so please give me some suggestions to try. Thanks for looking!

  Hi guys, I'm feeling completely stupid because I've spent two hours solving task which should be very simple and which I solved many times before. But now I'm not even sure in which direction to dig. I fail to fetch static content using ajax from local servers (Apache and Mongrel). I get responses 200 and 206 (depending on the server), empty response text (although Content-Length header is always correct), firebug shows request in red. Javascript is very generic, I'm getting same results even here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/tryit.asp?filename=tryajax_first (just change document location to 'http://localhost:3000/whatever') So, it's probably not the cause. • Getting ERR_DNS_FAIL when loading a local webserver page?

  When I go to a page hosted on a machine on a local network, I get a "The page cannot be found" error with "ERR_DNS_FAIL" in the title. Any ideas what this is or why I am getting it on my computer? I've tried in Firefox, IE and Chrome. Other computers on the network load the page just fine. I'm pretty sure it is from the hostname. I am able to access the page if I browse to it using the IP of the machine. However, it has two hostnames and both are giving the ERR_DNS_FAIL error. I tried restarting the browsers or rebooting the machine, but neither helped. EDIT: ISSUE RESOLVED ON ITS OWN!

• Error while dynamically loading mapi32.dll

  Our application uses Simple MAPI to send e-mails. One of our clients has problems sending e-mail from a session on his terminal server. The mapi32.dll is loaded with a call to LoadLibrary which succeeds, but then our application tries to get the addresses of the functions MAPILogon, MAPILogOff, MAPISendMail, MAPIFreeBuffer and MAPIResolveName. The problem is that GetProcAddress fails for those functions with an ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (code: 5) except for MAPIFreeBuffer. It looks like some sort of security thing. How can I fix this or should I use another method to send mail? • CakePHP: trouble configuring .htaccess for user directories enabled server

  I've placed the CakePHP files in a directory in /home/user/public_html/cakephp. When I try to reach localhost/~user/cakephp with my browser, there's an error message. In my case, since I'm using Chrome, it is 'Oops! This link appears to be broken.". Looking for a solution on Google, I found a few articles saying that I have to edit the .htaccess files that came with CakePHP, since it was made to work out of the box in /var/www/htdocs. Apparently I have to add a 'RewriteBase' statement to the .htaccess files. I added 'RewriteBase /' to it but it didn't work. If I change the RewriteBase statement in my user web directory to 'RewriteBase /cakephp' and then try to access localhost/~user/cakephp, the browser then shows not the copy in /home/user/public_html/cakephp but the copy in /var/www/htdocs/cakephp. What can I do to fix this?

• Why would Firefox not be able to visit Google anymore?

  Lately I've noticed that my Firefox Browser was taking a long time when I would search Google, e.g. 3 seconds before I would see any results. If I search for a three-word phrase, it just hangs trying to connect: I removed all add-ons but it still does this. I thought it might be something with my router, but Chrome, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer all work fine. Bing works fine in Firefox. Here's my Firefox version information: Otherwise I can still use Firefox, e.g. I'm using it to post this question, but I do notice that when I browse with it, images are often "broken" for a split second before they appear, as if it is having a hard time pulling them from a remote server. Other browsers don't do this. What could be causing Firefox to hang when searching Google?

• UINavigationController crash because of pushing and poping UIViewControllers

  My question is related to my discovery of a reason for UINavigationController to crash. So I will tell you about the discovery first. Please bare with me. The issue: I have a UINavigationController as as subview of UIWindow, a rootViewController class and a custom MyViewController class. The following steps will get a Exc_Bad_Access, 100% reproducible.: [myNaviationController pushViewController:myViewController_1stInstance animated:YES]; [myNaviationController pushViewController:myViewController_2ndInstance animated:YES]; Hit the left back tapBarItem twice (pop out two of the myViewController instances) to show the rootViewController. After a painful 1/2 day of try and error, I finally figure out the answer but also raise a question. The Solutio: I declared many objects in the .m file as a lazy way of declaring private variables to avoid cluttering the .h file. For instance, #impoart "MyViewController.h" NSMutableString*variable1; @implement ... -(id)init { ... varialbe1=[[NSMutableString alloc] init]; ... } -(void)dealloc { [variable1 release]; } For some reasons, the iphone OS may loose track of these "lazy private" variables memory allocation when myViewController_1stInstance's view is unloaded (but still in the navigation controller's stacks) after loading the view of myViewController_2ndInstance. The first time to tap the back tapBarItem is ok since myViewController_2ndInstance'view is still loaded. But the 2nd tap on the back tapBarItem gave me hell because it tried to dealloc the 2nd instance. Executing [variable release] resulted in Exc_Bad_Access because it pointed randomly (loose pointer). To fix this problem is simple, declare variable1 as a @private in the .h file. Here is my Question: I have been using the "lazy private" variables for quite some time without any issues until they are involved in UINavigationController. Is this a bug in iPhone OS? Or there is a fundamental misunderstanding on my part about Objective C? Please help.

• Strange. Asterisk key plays random Windows sound when pressed

  This is a new one on me. When I press the "asterisk", or * button on my number pad (but not SHIFT+8), Windows makes either a "Exclamation" or "Windows ding" sound. I haven't noticed a pattern to which sound is made. Logitech K200 keyboard No special key mapping software or Logitech software running Realtek sound to stereo through optical cable. Visual Studio 2010, Chrome, Fiddler, WinRAR, Notepad++, and Dropbox running. No unusual behavior otherwise. A solution isn't terribly important but my curiosity is both piqued and stumped. This doesn't normally happen and nothing odd has taken place otherwise. Ideas?

• Unable to connect to Adobe Connect

  I am having troubles trying to connect my colleges Adobe Connect. I have done the test meeting connection and it will say "Unable to connect". I have tried connecting on 3 other computers and it works with flying colors. I am running Norton 360 on my computer and I also tried it on my other laptop thats also running Norton 360 and it works on that laptop. I also checked my hosts file and that is not the problem because I am able to connect to the server (on port 80) but not the Adobe Connect port (port 1935). • Why can't I source my vimrc after installing vundle?

• UIAlertViewDelegate method didDismissWithButtonIndex gets called while the phone is sleeping/locked.

  I have a UIAlertView who's didDismissWithButtonIndex delegate method calls pops the view controller (same class, it's the alertview delegate and the viewcontroller) to return the user to the previous screen. The issue is that when you lock the phone before the [alert show]; is called, something is calling didDismissWithButtonIndex while the phone is locked. Since the response to that is to pop the view controller, which releases and deallocs it, I crash on the callback. What is causing this phantom button press? Seems like a framework bug, but I hate jumping to that conclusion. I'm definitely not hitting the button, because I hit a breakpoint in my code right before it's displayed. Then I lock the phone. Then I continue. I see it do the show, return to the event loop, and then, while the phone is still locked, hit my breakpoint in didDismissWithButtonIndex. There are a few internet/forum postings about similar spurious delegate calls, but no concrete answers. This is on the simulator, and the device, both OS 2.2 and OS 3.0. I'm assuming I'm missing something, but what? Update: Yeah, I created a simple project with just two view controllers, where when the 2nd view controller displays it creates the alert, and shows it. Then I NSLog in the delegate method, and when the phone is locked, it fires once while locked, and then again when it's unlocked and the button is clicked...2 log messages. But when not locked, there's only one. I guess I'll open an issue, but it seems awfully obvious to have survived this long without anyone complaining. :-) I'm going to try and work around it by making an isActive flag value when the willResignActive/didBecomeActive notifications arrive, and if the app isn't active skipping the delegate body. Update I went ahead in July after I posted this and created radar 7097363 for this issue. There's been no response. The workaround in practice works quite well, checking the active status when processing the delegate, and skipping the action if the the app is inactive.

• Internet speed is suddenly slow only on my laptop, but it's normal in other devices

  I have a TP-Link router connected to a ZTE modem, with 2 laptops, a tablet, 2 phones connected via the router's WiFi, and an additional desktop connected via ethernet to the router. Today, my laptop started to have a very slow connection to the internet, which at first I thought it was the operator's problem to find out later on that it works fine on other devices. I tried to connect directly via WiFi to the modem, but it was as slow. I cannot access facebook at all, google takes forever to do a search, and youtube barely works. The weird thing though, is that when youtube does work, the streaming is full speed. This happens also when I download a file! My browse is Firefox, but I used Chrome and IE9 with the same results. I work on Windows 7 Thanks for any advices.

• Ubuntu 10.04 with HD flash

  Just noticed that 10.04 is out. My media server has been packed away for a few months but I might dust if off and give 10.04 a shot but I thought I'd see if anyone has any success stories with HD flash in either Chrome or Firefox. I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.10 and it was a large enough pain to get VDPAU working with my Zotac Ion-ITX-C board (eventually found an mplayer PPA that had it compiled in) From reading the 10.04 docs it looks like this is standard now, but I'm wondering about streaming HD, from, say flash or Divx. I've never been able to get HD flash to play without it being extremely choppy, and I chalk this up to the lack of hardware assisted decoding like VDPAU (a guess). My board certainly isn't a competitor in CPU power or memory, which is why i've needed the HW accelerated decoding for HD vids in the past. Just wondering if anyone has had any success stories playing HD vid online (flash, divx or what have you)

• Internet speed showing high value but never felt that speed [closed]

  I use Reliance Netconnect+ in my Toshiba Satellite laptop. My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. I've seen speeds up to 1500 kbps when travelling and have an average speed of 400 kbps at my room premises. I'm sorry, I've never felt that much speed while browsing or downloading. Sometimes I think some other programs are also sharing the same network. It is just showing 200 or 500 kbps but I feel 25 or 50 kbps. Is there any way to prevent them? I use Google Chrome downloaded from Google site. Please suggest me some solutions.

• Flash Player in Windows 7 X64 problems

  I'm having a lot of problems with flash player in my win 7 X64 laptop, in YouTube the videos are completely black, you can only hear the sound and in Vimeo the videos are played well in normal size but completely black in fullscreen. Also some days ago YouTube played normal size videos but with controls not visible. I'm sure that the problem isn't the browser since this happen in Chrome, Firefox and IE 8. My laptop is a Dell XPS L501X, the flash version is 10,2,152,26 and the OS is Windows 7 Home Premium with SP1. I'll appreciate any help.
