  • problem with QDataStream & QDataStream::operator>> ( char *& s )

    - by yan bellavance
    QFile msnLogFile(item->data(Qt::UserRole).toString()); QDataStream logDataStream; if(msnLogFile.exists()){ msnLogFile.open(QIODevice::ReadOnly); logDataStream.setDevice(&msnLogFile); QByteArray logBlock; logDataStream >> logBlock; } This code doesnt work. The QByte that results is empty. Same thing if I use a char* . Oddely enough the same code works in another program. Im tying to find the difference between both. This works if i use int,uint, quint8, etc

  • dangling pointer, reason for value change after free()?

    - by Aman Jain
    In the following code segment, after free(x), why does y becomes 0? As per my understanding, the memory in the heap that was being pointed to by x, and is still being pointed by y, hasn't been allocated to someone else, so how can it change to 0? And moreover, I don't think it is free(x) that changed it to 0. Any comments? #include <stdio.h> int main ( int argc, char *argv[] ) { int *y = NULL; int *x = NULL; x = malloc(4); *x = 5; y = x; printf("[%d]\n", *y); //prints 5 free(x); printf("[%d]\n", *y); //why doesn't print 5?, prints 0 instead return 0; }

  • Comparison between pointer and integer (cocoa)

    - by Cal S
    Hi, I'm just learning cocoa (coming from C#) but I'm getting a strange error for something that seems really simple... (charsSinceLastUpdate=36) #import "CSMainController.h" @implementation CSMainController //global vars int *charsSinceLastUpdate = 0; NSString *myString = @"Hello world"; // - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { ... } //other functions - (void)textDidChange:(NSNotification *)aNotification { NSLog(@"charsSinceLastUpdate=%i",charsSinceLastUpdate); if (charsSinceLastUpdate>=36) { // <- THIS line returns the error: Comparison between pointer and integer charsSinceLastUpdate=0; [statusText setStringValue:@"Will save now!"]; } else { charsSinceLastUpdate++; [statusText setStringValue:@"Not saving"]; } } //my functions - (void)showNetworkErrorAlert:(BOOL)showContinueWithoutSavingOption { ... } // @end Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • Orphan Char appearing when using Sifr3 in Navigation (Wordpress)

    - by missmonkee
    Hi there, I am having an issue implementing Sifr3 on this particular site and it's driving me nuts. Hoping someone will be able to help me: http://client.missmonkee.com/agency-mobile LOGIN: client-login cl1entpassw0rd Here at the top right you can see the navigation to the site, in FF3 Win 7 / FF & Safari MAC some menu items show 1 char on a seperate line to the rest of the menu item. It looks as if there is a width on the li or something but I'm 100% sure there isnt and the rest of the menu items are OK and display fine. Something in relation to this might help answer this problem, is that Sifr3 does does not work AT ALL in IE7 WIN. I've checked previous answers to this, being the trailing comma issue but I've triple checked and I do not have any trailing commas. Can anyone help on this pls? Thanks in advance

  • storing an integral value in a pointer variable while declaration

    - by benjamin button
    int main() { int *d=0; printf("%d\n",*d); return 0; } this works fine. >cc legal.c > ./a.out 0 if i change the statement int *d=0; to int *d=1; i see the error. cc: "legal.c", line 6: error 1522: Cannot initialize a pointer with an integer constant other than zero. so its obvious that it will allow only zero.i want to know what happens inside the memory when we do this int *d=0 which is making it valid syntax. I am just asking this out of curiosity!

  • Dangling pointer

    - by viswanathan
    Does this piece of code lead to dangling pointer. My guess is no. class Sample { public: int *ptr; Sample(int i) { ptr = new int(i); } ~Sample() { delete ptr; } void PrintVal() { cout << "The value is " << *ptr; } }; void SomeFunc(Sample x) { cout << "Say i am in someFunc " << endl; } int main() { Sample s1 = 10; SomeFunc(s1); s1.PrintVal(); }

  • C Class Instance from Void Pointer using Ctypes

    - by g.d.d.c
    I've got a C DLL that exposes a handful of methods that return void pointers to a Class like so: void *GetLicense() { static AppLicenseImpl ipds_; return (void *) &ipds_; } In C++, after loading the DLL, I'd do this to work with it: typedef void *(* FPGetLicense)(); GetLicense_ = (FPGetLicense)GetAddress("GetLicense"); license_ = (AppLicense *) GetLicense_(); license_->GetApplicationStatus(); // Load data so that other calls don't fail I can't figure out how to parallel that in Python. This gets me the pointer: d = ctypes.cdll.LoadLibrary('license.dll') d.GetLicense.restype = ctypes.c_void_p p = d.GetLicense() # returns ptr loc, something like 8791433660848L But I obviously can't call p.GetApplicationStatus() in Python. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I'd instantiate that Class the rest of the way in Python so that I can call GetApplicationStatus()?

  • C++ run error: pointer being freed was not allocated

    - by Dale Reves
    I'm learning c++ and am working on a program that keeps giving me a 'pointer being freed was not allocated' error. It's a grocery store program that inputs data from a txt file, then user can enter item# & qty. I've read through similar questions but what's throwing me off is the 'pointer' issue. I would appreciate if someone could take a look and help me out. I'm using Netbeans IDE 7.2 on a Mac. I'll just post the whole piece I have so far. Thx. #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #include <vector> using namespace std; class Product { public: // PLU Code int getiPluCode() { return iPluCode; } void setiPluCode( int iTempPluCode) { iPluCode = iTempPluCode; } // Description string getsDescription() { return sDescription; } void setsDescription( string sTempDescription) { sDescription = sTempDescription; } // Price double getdPrice() { return dPrice; } void setdPrice( double dTempPrice) { dPrice = dTempPrice; } // Type..weight or unit int getiType() { return iType; } void setiType( int iTempType) { iType = iTempType; } // Inventory quantity double getdInventory() { return dInventory; } void setdInventory( double dTempInventory) { dInventory = dTempInventory; } private: int iPluCode; string sDescription; double dPrice; int iType; double dInventory; }; int main () { Product paInventory[21]; // Create inventory array Product paPurchase[21]; // Create customer purchase array // Constructor to open inventory input file ifstream InputInventory ("inventory.txt", ios::in); //If ifstream could not open the file if (!InputInventory) { cerr << "File could not be opened" << endl; exit (1); }//end if int x = 0; while (!InputInventory.eof () ) { int iTempPluCode; string sTempDescription; double dTempPrice; int iTempType; double dTempInventory; InputInventory >> iTempPluCode >> sTempDescription >> dTempPrice >> iTempType >> dTempInventory; paInventory[x].setiPluCode(iTempPluCode); paInventory[x].setsDescription(sTempDescription); paInventory[x].setdPrice(dTempPrice); paInventory[x].setiType(iTempType); paInventory[x].setdInventory(dTempInventory); x++; } bool bQuit = false; //CREATE MY TOTAL VARIABLE HERE! int iUserItemCount; do { int iUserPLUCode; double dUserAmount; double dAmountAvailable; int iProductIndex = -1; //CREATE MY SUBTOTAL VARIABLE HERE! while(iProductIndex == -1) { cout<<"Please enter the PLU Code of the product."<< endl; cin>>iUserPLUCode; for(int i = 0; i < 21; i++) { if(iUserPLUCode == paInventory[i].getiPluCode()) { dAmountAvailable = paInventory[i].getdInventory(); iProductIndex = i; } } //PLU code entry validation if(iProductIndex == -1) { cout << "You have entered an invalid PLU Code."; } } cout<<"Enter the quantity to buy.\n"<< "There are "<< dAmountAvailable << "available.\n"; cin>> dUserAmount; while(dUserAmount > dAmountAvailable) { cout<<"That's too many, please try again"; cin>>dUserAmount; } paPurchase[iUserItemCount].setiPluCode(iUserPLUCode);// Array of objects function calls paPurchase[iUserItemCount].setdInventory(dUserAmount); paPurchase[iUserItemCount].setdPrice(paInventory[iProductIndex].getdPrice()); paInventory[iProductIndex].setdInventory( paInventory[iProductIndex].getdInventory() - dUserAmount ); iUserItemCount++; cout <<"Are you done purchasing items? • Objective-C: Initializing char with char at index of string.

    - by Mr. McPepperNuts
    unichar myChar = [myString characterAtIndex:0]; [myNSMutableArray addObject:myChar]; I am trying to insert the first char of a string into an array, to create an array of chars. the first line does not give me an error. The second line however, provides the following error: warning: passing argument 1 of 'addObject:' makes pointer from integer without a cast This also crashes the application with a "bad address" error. I thought this error was due to a problem with memory allocation. Can someone shed some light on this.

  • [iPhone app] Inserting special char un NSString for URL use

    - by Dough
    Hi, I'm using HTTP connection to share data with my JSON server. I use URLs like "MyServlet?param1=value1" and so on... I'm now facing a problem with one of my servlet (I can't change it because some other views are using it) : The servlet is working with a syntax including those symbols "{" and "}". The exact syntax is {(value1_value2)(value3_value4)(value5_value6)}{(value7_value8)(value9_value10)(value11_value12)}{(value13_value14)(value15_value16)(value17_value18)} Values are integers, the problem is only when I use "{" and "}" my UrlConnection returns an error for bad URL. I use this to instantiate my NSString : NSString *myURL = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://somesite.com/Servlet?PARAM={(%@)}"]; How can I code those char in my NSString ? Thanks in advance !

  • Doctrine SQL Server uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database

    - by Tres
    When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

  • Converting c pointer types

    - by bobbyb
    I have a c pointer to a structre type called uchar4 which looks like { uchar x; uchar y; uchar z; uchar w; } I also have data passed in as uint8*. I'd like to create a uchar* pointing to the data at the uint8* so I've tried doing this: uint8 *data_in; uchar4 *temp = (uchar4*)data_in; However, the first 8 bytes always seem to be wrong. Is there another way of doing this?

  • Void pointer values comparing C++

    - by user2962977
    My actual question is it really possible to compare values contained in two void pointers, when you actually know that these values are the same type? For example int. void compVoids(void *firstVal, void *secondVal){ if (firstVal < secondVal){ cout << "This will not make any sense as this will compare addresses, not values" << endl; } } Actually I need to compare two void pointer values, while outside the function it is known that the type is int. I do not want to use comparison of int inside the function. So this will not work for me as well: if (*(int*)firstVal > *(int*)secondVal) Any suggestions? Thank you very much for help!

  • std::string constructor corrupts pointer

    - by computergeek6
    I have an Entity class, which contains 3 pointers: m_rigidBody, m_entity, and m_parent. Somewhere in Entity::setModel(std::string model), it's crashing. Apparently, this is caused by bad data in m_entity. The weird thing is that I nulled it in the constructor and haven't touched it since then. I debugged it and put a watchpoint on it, and it comes up that the m_entity member is being changed in the constructor for std::string that's being called while converting a const char* into an std::string for the setModel call. I'm running on a Mac, if that helps (I think I remember some problem with std::string on the Mac). Any ideas about what's going on?

  • Object pointer value as key into dictionary

    - by Ranking Stackingblocks
    I want to use the object's reference value as a key into a dictionary, as opposed to a copy of value of the object. So, I essentially want to store an object associated with a particular instance of another object in a dictionary and retrieve that value later. Is this possible? Is it completely against the idea of NSDictionary? I can tell that I am probably approaching this the wrong way because the dictionary wants me to implement NSCopying on the object itself, which doesn't really make sense in terms of what I'm doing. I can see that what I should really be doing is wrapping the pointer value, but that seems a little mad. Advice would be appreciated.

  • pointer delegate in STL set.

    - by ananth
    hi. Im kinda stuck with using a set with a pointer delegate. my code is as follows: void Graph::addNodes (NodeSet& nodes) { for (NodeSet::iterator pos = nodes.begin(); pos != nodes.end(); ++pos) { addNode(*pos); } } Here NodeSet is defined as: typedef std::set NodeSet; The above piece of code works perfectly on my windows machine, but when i run the same piece of code on a MAC, it gives me the following error: no matching function for call to 'Graph::addNode(const boost::shared_ptr&)' FYI, Node_ptr is of type: typedef boost::shared_ptr Node_ptr; can somebody plz tell me why this is happening?

  • inode_operations , warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type

    Hi everyone, I'm trying to compile a simple Kernel program that read and write from a proc file. I'm trying to set permission to that file by overriding the permission fp in inode_operations struct (.permission) static int module_permission(struct inode *inode, int op, struct nameidata *foo) { . . . } static struct inode_operations Inode_Ops_4_Our_Proc_File = { .permission = module_permission, /* check for permissions */ }; Our_Proc_File->proc_iops = &Inode_Ops_4_Our_Proc_File; For some reason, when I compile this i get - warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type on the following line: .permission = module_permission, /* check for permissions */ Any idea how to solve this? Thanks!

  • C Structure Pointer Problem

    - by Halo
    I have this struct; #define BUFSIZE 10 struct shared_data { pthread_mutex_t th_mutex_queue; int count; int data_buffer_allocation[BUFSIZE]; int data_buffers[BUFSIZE][100]; }; and I want to allocate one of the data_buffers for a process, for that purpose I execute the following function; int allocate_data_buffer(int pid) { int i; for (i = 0; i < BUFSIZE; i++) { if (sdata_ptr->data_buffer_allocation[i] == NULL) { sdata_ptr->data_buffer_allocation[i] = pid; return i; } } return -1; } but the compiler warns me that I'm comparing pointer to a value. When I put a & in front of sdata_ptr it calms down but I'm not sure if it will work. Isn't what I wrote above supposed to be true?

    I've been at this one for a bit now. I've got a null pointer exception so im guessing somethings not been initialized. AdminMessages.inbox1.setText(messageRsetArray[0]); thats my code where its targetting. but i cant find what inside it hasnt been initiazed. AdminMessages is a class which contains a JTextField called inbox1, messageRsetArray is an array which has taken variables from an array. also inbox1 is static. i coulndt get the getters and setter to work. i know its bad practice though.

  • custom ListView --Null pointer exception

    - by raghs
    this code throws a Null pointer exception. It was thrown by getChildAt(i). The getCount() returns the number of items in listView. But getChildAt(i) returns only if item is present in current list view. For example in a scrollable list view assume that there are 20 items. The getCount() returns 20. But getChildAt(20) returns null. Because it doesnot fit in listview. How to solve this problem?? int i,j=object.getCount(); View v=getListView(); CheckBox chk=null; for(i=0;i<j;i++) { chk=((CheckBox)((ViewGroup) v).getChildAt(i).findViewById(R.id.checkBox1)); if(chk.isChecked()) { //download the contents to specific folder in sd card } }

  • Syncronizing indices of function pointer table to table contents

    - by Thomas Matthews
    In the embedded system I'm working on, we are using a table of function pointers to support proprietary Dynamic Libraries. We have a header file that uses named constants (#define) for the function pointer indices. These values are used in calculating the location in the table of the function's address. Example: *(export_table.c)* // Assume each function in the table has an associated declaration typedef void (*Function_Ptr)(void); Function_Ptr Export_Function_Table[] = { 0, Print, Read, Write, Process, }; Here is the header file: *export_table.h* #define ID_PRINT_FUNCTION 1 #define ID_READ_FUNCTION 2 #define ID_WRITE_FUNCTION 3 #define ID_PROCESS_FUNCTION 4 I'm looking for a scheme to define the named constants in terms of their location in the array so that when the order of the functions changes, the constants will also change. (Also, I would like the compiler or preprocessor to calculate the indices to avoid human mistakes like typeo's.)
