  • MySQL: Creating table with FK error (errno 150)

    - by Peter Bailey
    I've tried searching on this error and nothing I've found helps me, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate and I'm just too dumb to find it. I've created a model with MySQL Workbench and am now attempting to install it to a mysql server. Using File Export Forward Engineer SQL CREATE Script... it outputs a nice big file for me, with all the settings I ask for. I switch over to MySQL GUI Tools (the Query Browser specifically) and load up this script (note that I'm going form one official MySQL tool to another). However, when I try to actually execute this file, I get the same error over and over SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1005 Can't create table './srs_dev/location.frm' (errno: 150) "OK", I say to myself, something is wrong with the location table. So I check out the definition in the output file. SET @OLD_UNIQUE_CHECKS=@@UNIQUE_CHECKS, UNIQUE_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=@@FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS, FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_SQL_MODE=@@SQL_MODE, SQL_MODE='TRADITIONAL'; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `state` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `state` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `state` ( `state_id` INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `iso_3166_2_code` VARCHAR(2) NOT NULL , `name` VARCHAR(60) NOT NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`state_id`) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `brand` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `brand` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `brand` ( `brand_id` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL , `domain` VARCHAR(45) NOT NULL , `manager_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_email` VARCHAR(255) NULL , PRIMARY KEY (`brand_id`) ) ENGINE = InnoDB; -- ----------------------------------------------------- -- Table `location` -- ----------------------------------------------------- DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `location` ; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `location` ( `location_id` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , `name` VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL , `address_line_1` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `address_line_2` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `city` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `state_id` TINYINT UNSIGNED NULL DEFAULT NULL , `postal_code` VARCHAR(10) NULL , `phone_number` VARCHAR(20) NULL , `fax_number` VARCHAR(20) NULL , `lat` DECIMAL(9,6) NOT NULL , `lng` DECIMAL(9,6) NOT NULL , `contact_url` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `brand_id` TINYINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL , `summer_hours` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `winter_hours` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `after_hours_emergency` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `image_file_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_name` VARCHAR(100) NULL , `manager_email` VARCHAR(255) NULL , `created_date` TIMESTAMP NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP , PRIMARY KEY (`location_id`) , CONSTRAINT `fk_location_state` FOREIGN KEY (`state_id` ) REFERENCES `state` (`state_id` ) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION, CONSTRAINT `fk_location_brand` FOREIGN KEY (`brand_id` ) REFERENCES `brand` (`brand_id` ) ON DELETE NO ACTION ON UPDATE NO ACTION) ENGINE = InnoDB; CREATE INDEX `fk_location_state` ON `location` (`state_id` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `fk_location_brand` ON `location` (`brand_id` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `idx_lat` ON `location` (`lat` ASC) ; CREATE INDEX `idx_lng` ON `location` (`lng` ASC) ; Looks ok to me. I surmise that maybe something is wrong with the Query Browser, so I put this file on the server and try to load it this way ] mysql -u admin -p -D dbname < path/to/create_file.sql And I get the same error. So I start to Google this issue and find all kinds of accounts that talk about an error with InnoDB style tables that fail with foreign keys, and the fix is to add "SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;" to the SQL script. Well, as you can see, that's already part of the file that MySQL Workbench spat out. So, my question is then, why is this not working when I'm doing what I think I'm supposed to be doing? • SQL SERVER – Solution of Puzzle – Swap Value of Column Without Case Statement

    - by pinaldave
    Earlier this week I asked a question where I asked how to Swap Values of the column without using CASE Statement. Read here: SQL SERVER – A Puzzle – Swap Value of Column Without Case Statement. I have proposed 3 different solutions in the blog posts itself. I had requested the help of the community to come up with alternate solutions and honestly I am stunned and amazed by the qualified entries. I will be not able to cover every single solution which is posted as a comment, however, I would like to for sure cover few interesting entries. However, I am selecting 5 solutions which are different (not necessary they are most optimal or best – just different and interesting). Just for clarity I am involving the original problem statement here. USE tempdb GO CREATE TABLE SimpleTable (ID INT, Gender VARCHAR(10)) GO INSERT INTO SimpleTable (ID, Gender) SELECT 1, 'female' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 'male' UNION ALL SELECT 3, 'male' GO SELECT * FROM SimpleTable GO -- Insert Your Solutions here -- Swap value of Column Gender SELECT * FROM SimpleTable GO DROP TABLE SimpleTable GO Here are the five most interesting and different solutions I have received. Solution by Roji P Thomas UPDATE S SET S.Gender = D.Gender FROM SimpleTable S INNER JOIN SimpleTable D ON S.Gender != D.Gender I really loved the solutions as it is very simple and drives the point home – elegant and will work pretty much for any values (not necessarily restricted by the option in original question ‘male’ or ‘female’). Solution by Aneel CREATE TABLE #temp(id INT, datacolumn CHAR(4)) INSERT INTO #temp VALUES(1,'gent'),(2,'lady'),(3,'lady') DECLARE @value1 CHAR(4), @value2 CHAR(4) SET @value1 = 'lady' SET @value2 = 'gent' UPDATE #temp SET datacolumn = REPLACE(@value1 + @value2,datacolumn,'') Aneel has very interesting solution where he combined both the values and replace the original value. I personally liked this creativity of the solution. Solution by SIJIN KUMAR V P UPDATE SimpleTable SET Gender = RIGHT(('fe'+Gender), DIFFERENCE((Gender),SOUNDEX(Gender))*2) Sijin has amazed me with Difference and Soundex function. I have never visualized that above two functions can resolve the problem. Hats off to you Sijin. Solution by Nikhildas UPDATE St SET St.Gender = t.Gender FROM SimpleTable St CROSS Apply (SELECT DISTINCT gender FROM SimpleTable WHERE St.Gender != Gender) t I was expecting that someone will come up with this solution where they use CROSS APPLY. This is indeed very neat and for sure interesting exercise. If you do not know how CROSS APPLY works this is the time to learn. Solution by mistermagooo UPDATE SimpleTable SET Gender=X.NewGender FROM (VALUES('male','female'),('female','male')) AS X(OldGender,NewGender) WHERE SimpleTable.Gender=X.OldGender As per author this is a slow solution but I love how syntaxes are placed and used here. I love how he used syntax here. I will say this is the most beautifully written solution (not necessarily it is best). Bonus: Solution by Madhivanan Somehow I was confident Madhi – SQL Server MVP will come up with something which I will be compelled to read. He has written a complete blog post on this subject and I encourage all of you to go ahead and read it. Now personally I wanted to list every single comment here. There are some so good that I am just amazed with the creativity. I will write a part of this blog post in future. However, here is the challenge for you. Challenge: Go over 50+ various solutions listed to the simple problem here. Here are my two asks for you. 1) Pick your best solution and list here in the comment. This exercise will for sure teach us one or two things. 2) Write your own solution which is yet not covered already listed 50 solutions. I am confident that there is no end to creativity. • SQL SERVER – OVER clause with FIRST _VALUE and LAST_VALUE – Analytic Functions Introduced in SQL Server 2012 – ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING

    - by pinaldave
    Yesterday I had discussed two analytical functions FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE. After reading the blog post I received very interesting question. “Don’t you think there is bug in your first example where FIRST_VALUE is remain same but the LAST_VALUE is changing every line. I think the LAST_VALUE should be the highest value in the windows or set of result.” I find this question very interesting because this is very commonly made mistake. No there is no bug in the code. I think what we need is a bit more explanation. Let me attempt that first. Before you do that I suggest you read yesterday’s blog post as this question is related to that blog post. Now let’s have fun following query: USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO The above query will give us the following result: As per the reader’s question the value of the LAST_VALUE function should be always 114 and not increasing as the rows are increased. Let me re-write the above code once again with bit extra T-SQL Syntax. Please pay special attention to the ROW clause which I have added in the above syntax. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO Now once again check the result of the above query. The result of both the query is same because in OVER clause the default ROWS selection is always UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND CURRENT ROW. If you want the maximum value of the windows with OVER clause you need to change the syntax to UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING for ROW clause. Now run following query and pay special attention to ROW clause again. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO Here is the resultset of the above query which is what questioner was asking. So in simple word, there is no bug but there is additional syntax needed to add to get your desired answer. The same logic also applies to PARTITION BY clause when used. Here is quick example of how we can further partition the query by SalesOrderDetailID with this new functions. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO Above query will give us windowed resultset on SalesOrderDetailsID as well give us FIRST and LAST value for the windowed resultset. There are lots to discuss for this two functions and we have just explored tip of the iceberg. In future post I will discover it further deep. • SQL SERVER – Puzzle to Win Print Book – Functions FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE with OVER clause and ORDER BY

    - by pinaldave
    Some time an interesting feature and smart audience makes total difference at places. From last two days, I have been writing on SQL Server 2012 feature FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE. Please read following post before I continue today as this question is based on the same. Introduction to FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE Introduction to FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE with OVER clause As a comment of the second post I received excellent question from Nilesh Molankar. He asks what will happen if we change few things in the T-SQL. I really like this question as this kind of questions will make us sharp and help us perform in critical situation in need. We recently publish SQL Server Interview Questions book. I promise that in future version of this book, we will for sure include this question. Instead of repeating his question, I am going to ask something very similar to his question. Let us first run following query (read yesterday’s blog post for more detail): USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO Here is the resultset of the above query. Now let us change the ORDER BY clause of OVER clause in above query and see what is the new result. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY OrderQty ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY OrderQty ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO Now let us see the result and ready for interesting question: Puzzle You can see that row number 2, 3, 4, and 5 has same SalesOrderID = 43667. The FIRST_VALUE is 78 and LAST_VALUE is 77. Now if these function was working on maximum and minimum value they should have given answer as 77 and 80 respectively instead of 78 and 77. Also the value of FIRST_VALUE is greater than LAST_VALUE 77. Why? Explain in detail. Hint Let me give you a simple hint. Just for simplicity I have changed the order of columns selected in the SELECT and ORDER BY (at the end). This will not change resultset but just order of the columns as well order of the rows. However, the data remains the same. USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.OrderQty,s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY OrderQty ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (PARTITION BY SalesOrderID ORDER BY OrderQty ROWS BETWEEN UNBOUNDED PRECEDING AND UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.OrderQty,s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID GO Above query returns following result: Now I am very sure all of you have figured out the solution. Here is the second hint – pay attention to row 2, 3, 4, and 10. • Changing a table-valued function that a stored procedure calls is not recognized?

    - by Peter
    Hey all I have a stored procedure sp that calls a table-valued function tvf. Sometimes I modify the tvf but when subsequently executing sp, the output from sp is the same as before the modification. It seems like it is cached or compiled or something. If I make some dummy change to the sp, then I get the right output of the sp. Is there some way, I can overcome this problem? In Oracle it is possible to re-compile all stored procedures, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in SQL Server? Any help is highly appreciated.

  • Jquery Basic Beginner Question: How do i make my function reusable?

    - by obikodi
    I have spent the last few hours attempting to do this on my own, and using Google to find a solution but to no avail. So if you can help out i would super appreciate it! Basically I have a page which has 3 separate biographies in 'preview mode', which shows only the first paragraph of each bio. When you click on 'read more' for one bio it opens up the 'full mode'. What is happening at the moment, is if i click on one 'read more' link, it opens up the full mode on all 3 bio's. How do i edit the following code so; It only opens the full mode bio of the link i click on Make it reusable so i don't have to duplicate the code 3 times for each bio $("a#btnReadMore").click(function(){ $('.readMoreSlider').slideToggle("fast"); $(this).toggleClass("readMoreSliderActive"); return false; }); Thanks for your help!

  • Is it a good practice to pass struct object as parameter to a function in c++?

    - by tsubasa
    I tried an example live below: typedef struct point { int x; int y; } point; void cp(point p) { cout<<p.x<<endl; cout<<p.y<<endl; } int main() { point p1; p1.x=1; p1.y=2; cp(p1); } The result thats printed out is: 1 2 which is what I expected. My question is: Does parameter p get the full copy of object p1? If so, I wonder if this is a good practice? (I assumed when the struct gets big in size, this will create a lot of copy overhead).

  • Passing array to function with pointer loses array size information!

    - by Narek
    If I write int main() { int a[100] = {1,2,3,4,}; cout<<sizeof(a)/sizeof(a[0])<<endl; return 0; } I get 400! If I write void func(int *a); int main() { int a[100] = {1,2,3,4,}; func(a); return 0; } void func(int *a) { cout<<sizeof(a)/sizeof(a[0])<<endl; } Then I get 400! So why passing array to function with pointer loses array size information?

  • Ways to optimize Android App code based on function call stack?

    - by K-RAN
    I've been told that Android OS stores all function calls in a stack. This can lead to many problems and cause the 'hiccups' during runtime, even if a program is functionalized properly, correct? So the question is, how can we prevent this from happening? The obvious solution is to functionalize less, along with other sensible acts such as refraining from excessively/needlessly creating objects, performing static calls to functions that don't access fields, etc... Is there another way though? Or can this only be done through careful code writing on the programmers' part? Does the JVM/JIT automatically optimize the bytecode during compile time to account for this?? Thanks a lot for your responses!!

  • How can I write this Table Valued Function as a Stored Procedure?

    - by Alex
    I have the following TVF for fulltext search: FUNCTION [dbo].[Fishes_FullTextSearch] (@searchtext nvarchar(4000), @limitcount int) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM Fishes INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Fishes, *, @searchtext, @limitcount) AS KEY_TBL ON Fishes.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] When I'm using this TVF, it doesn't return a collection of objects of type Fish (which I want!) - instead LINQ creates a new result type which includes all "Fish" fields and the fields Key and Rank. In another question, it was suggested that I rewrite this TVF into a stored procedure for it to return Fish objects only. Can someone help me do this please? Also, it needs to be ordered by Rank. Thank you!

  • How to use templated classes as function arguments? (C++)

    - by Keand64
    I have a class declared along the lines of template<int a, int b> class C { public: array[a][b]; } and I want to use it as argument in a function like this: bool DoSomeTests(C &c1, C &c2); but when I compile, it tells me 'use of class template requires template argument list.' I tried template<int a, int b> bool DoSomeTests(C &c1, C &c2); but I get the same error. How can I fix this?

    I am trying to move some code from a seperate binary and have it inside my main program. Unfortunately I can't mimic the initialization variables for the main function. How can I create argc and argv by hand? Can someone give me some example assignments. since it looks like this: int main(int argc, char *argv[]) I figured I could assign them like this: int argc=1; char *argv[0]="Example"; But it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how this might be done?

  • Why doesn't functools.partial return a real function (and how to create one that does)?

    - by epsilon
    So I was playing around with currying functions in Python and one of the things that I noticed was that functools.partial returns a partial object rather than an actual function. One of the things that annoyed me about this was that if I did something along the lines of: five = partial(len, 'hello') five('something') then we get TypeError: len() takes exactly 1 argument (2 given) but what I want to happen is TypeError: five() takes no arguments (1 given) Is there a clean way to make it work like this? I wrote a workaround, but it's too hacky for my taste (doesn't work yet for functions with varargs): def mypartial(f, *args): argcount = f.func_code.co_argcount - len(args) params = ''.join('a' + str(i) + ',' for i in xrange(argcount)) code = ''' def func(f, args): def %s(%s): return f(*(args+(%s))) return %s ''' % (f.func_name, params, params, f.func_name) exec code in locals() return func(f, args)

  • func_get_args detect context

    - by Steve
    I have a script where it accepts a varying number of arguments. I want to use func_get_args to perform operations on said arguments. If I have one function like this: function Something() { foreach(func_get_args($this) as $functions) { // Do something } // Return.. } I want to be able to call this function in, for example, another function to add/save entries. The add/save function would have arguments 'title', 'description' etc.. I basically want to know if there is a way to detect the context of a function call. Can I pass something to func_get_args that will let it know that its called in a certain function? So if I do: function Save($title, $desc) { $vars = $this->Something(); } I want $vars to contain $title and $desc after modifying them.

  • Switching back into the middle of a function in Actionscript

    - by J.Ded.
    I need to return to my original function after capturing an event (downloading something) with another function. The original function needs to return a value, which depends on the downloaded data. So, I'd like to pause original function for the time needed for the download and the eventhandler function to complete it's work, and resume it afterwards. The obvious way is to set a flag value (both the original function and the eventhandler are within the same class) and make the original function check it until the eventhandler function changes the flag. But that would be wasteful, and my AS is slow enough already:) [other parts of the application utilise some heavy graphics]. Is there another way? Like an event that gets captured "in the middle" of the function? Or some other form of flow control?

  • How should I use try...except while defining a function?

    - by SpawnCxy
    Hi all, I find I've been confused by the problem that when I needn't to use try..except.For last few days it was used in almost every function I defined which I think maybe a bad practice. For example: class mongodb(object): def getRecords(self, tname, conditions=''): try: col = eval("self.db.%s" %tname) recs = col.find(condition) return recs except Exception,e: #here make some error log with e.message What I thought is ,exceptions may be raised everywhere and I have to use try to get them. And my question is,is it a good practice to use it everywhere when defining functions? If not are there any principles for it?Help would be appreciated! Regards

If I use .text() fuction to add the html (anchor tag) which I am dynamically creating, it works fine, both the functions are called as desired. But when I use the .html() function instead then the second fuction of .hover() is never been called. var i = 0; textItems = new Array(); ////I am putting the value into textItems using the jquery ajax call ////and i get its value from a .each() function. //.text() implementation $('#textArea-id').hover( function() { $('#textArea-id').text(textItems[i]); }, function() { //-->mouseout function is called here } ); //.html() implementation $('#textArea-id').hover( function() { $('#textArea-id').html(textItems[i]); }, function() { //-->mouseout function is never been called } );

  • How to create "lock" (stop updating of cells) in Excel?

    - by Oozi
    My question is pretty simple, but one to which I can't really find a solution myself. I use Excel quite frequently, but rarely the fancy stuff. Anyway, to the point: How do I create a dropmenu that will lock certain cells, rows or columns? (by lock I mean unable to change via hand and stops updating itself). Example: A1 = 5 B1 = A1 * 100 Can I "lock" the B1-cell, so that changing A1 will have no effect on B1 (Will remain at value 500)? I would preferably want to be able to "unlock" the cell as well, instead of simply making function into value. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

  • How to know whether to create a general system or to hack a solution

    - by Andy K
    I'm new to coding , learning it since last year actually. One of my worst habits is the following: Often I'm trying to create a solution that is too big , too complex and doesn't achieve what needs to be achieved, when a hacky kludge can make the fit. One last example was the following (see paste bin link below) http://pastebin.com/WzR3zsLn After explaining my issue, one nice person at stackoverflow came with this solution instead http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25304170/update-a-field-by-removing-quarter-or-removing-month When should I keep my code simple and when should I create a 'big', general solution? I feel stupid sometimes for building something so big, so awkward, just to solve a simple problem. It did not occur to me that there would be an easier solution. Any tips are welcomed. Best

  • Install usblib package - Ubuntu

    - by Tom celic
    I need the package libusb for another package I am installing. I tried the following which seemed to install the package, sudo apt-get install libusb-dev but when I try to install the other package I get, configure: error: Package requirements (libusb-1.0 >= 0.9.1) were not met: No package 'libusb-1.0' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBUSB_CFLAGS and LIBUSB_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. When I run the command dpkg -L libusb-dev, I get: /. /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/libusb-config /usr/include /usr/include/usb.h /usr/lib /usr/lib/libusb.a /usr/lib/libusb.la /usr/lib/pkgconfig /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libusb.pc /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/index.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/preface.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/intro.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/intro-overview.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/intro-support.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api-device-interfaces.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api-timeouts.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api-types.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api-synchronous.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/api-return-values.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/functions.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.core.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbinit.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbfindbusses.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbfinddevices.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetbusses.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.deviceops.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbopen.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbclose.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbsetconfiguration.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbsetaltinterface.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbresetep.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbclearhalt.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbreset.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbclaiminterface.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbreleaseinterface.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.control.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbcontrolmsg.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetstring.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetstringsimple.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetdescriptor.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetdescriptorbyendpoint.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.bulk.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbbulkwrite.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbbulkread.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.interrupt.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbinterruptwrite.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbinterruptread.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/ref.nonportable.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbgetdrivernp.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/function.usbdetachkerneldrivernp.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/examples.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/examples-code.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/examples-tests.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/html/examples-other.html /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/copyright /usr/share/doc-base /usr/share/doc-base/libusb-dev /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1 /usr/share/man/man1/libusb-config.1.gz /usr/lib/libusb.so /usr/share/doc/libusb-dev/changelog.Debian.gz Any ideas??

    - by ybbest
    Recently, I worked with a client that has office 365 upgraded to SharePoint 2013.But they still like to create the SharePoint site using the old SharePoint2010 template, if you like to know how , here are the steps: 1. Go to your Office 365 portal https://portal.microsoftonline.com/admin/default.aspx and then go to the SharePoint admin page. 2. Next, click settings page. 3. Change the Global experience Version Settings. 4. Finally, you will be able to create SharePoint site using 2010 template.

  • Create and use a Button class on AS3.0

    - by Madcowe
    I am currently working on a game and it is all going well. On the shop screen there are several buttons that affect the player's stats for when the player restarts the game. The button's names (with a text on the left), however, are rather cryptic and it's hard to figure out what they do unless you test or something. So the solution I came up with, is to create an InfoBox with an InfoText inside so that when the cursor is over the button it appears with the description, cost and etc. This I managed to do too however, the way I was about to do it would mean that I had to create 3 event listeners per button (CLICK, ROLL_OVER, ROLL_OUT) and, obviously, 3 functions connected to each event listener. Now, I don't mind much about having 1 event listener per button, for the click, but since the other events are just to make a box appear and disappear as well as display some text, I thought it was way too much of a mess of code. What I tried to do: I created a new class called InfoBoxButton, and this is the class' code: package { import flash.display.SimpleButton; import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.ui.Mouse; import flash.events.MouseEvent; public class InfoBoxButton extends SimpleButton { public var description:String; public var infoBox:InfoBox; public function InfoBoxButton(description) { this.addEventListener( MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, displayInfoText, false, 0, true); this.addEventListener( MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT, hideInfoText, false, 0, true); } private function displayInfoText() { infoBox.infoText.text = description; infoBox.visible = true; } private function hideInfoText() { infoBox.infoText.text = ""; infoBox.visible = false; } } } But now I don't have an idea how to associate it with the button, I have tried this: public var SoonButton:InfoBoxButton = new InfoBoxButton("This is merely a test"); The SoonButton is a button I made on the shopscreen, SoonButton is it's instance name, but I can't think of a way of associating one button to the other... I have been fiddling with the code for like 3 hours yesterday and no luck... can anyone give me some pointers on how I should go about doing it?

  • Create a Persistent Bootable Ubuntu USB Flash Drive

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    Don’t feel like reinstalling an antivirus program every time you boot up your Ubuntu flash drive? We’ll show you how to create a bootable Ubuntu flash drive that will remember your settings, installed programs, and more! Previously, we showed you how to create a bootable Ubuntu flash drive that would reset to its initial state every time you booted it up. This is great if you’re worried about messing something up, and want to start fresh every time you start tinkering with Ubuntu. However, if you’re using the Ubuntu flash drive to diagnose and solve problems with your PC, you might find that a lot of problems require guess-and-test cycles. It would be great if the settings you change in Ubuntu and the programs you install stay installed the next time you boot it up. Fortunately, Universal USB Installer, a great little program from Pen Drive Linux, can do just that! Note: You will need a USB drive at least 2 GB large. Make sure you back up any files on the flash drive because this process will format the drive, removing any files currently on it. Once Ubuntu has been installed on the flash drive, you can move those files back if there is enough space. Put Ubuntu on your flash drive Universal-USB-Installer.exe does not need to be installed, so just double click on it to run it wherever you downloaded it. Click Yes if you get a UAC prompt, and you will be greeted with this window. Click I Agree. In the drop-down box on the next screen, select Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop i386. Don’t worry if you normally use 64-bit operating systems – the 32-bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 will still work fine. Some useful tools do not have 64-bit versions, so unless you’re planning on switching to Ubuntu permanently, the 32-bit version will work best. If you don’t have a copy of the Ubuntu 9.10 CD downloaded, then click on the checkbox to Download the ISO. You’ll be prompted to launch a web browser; click Yes. The download should start immediately. When it’s finished, return the the Universal USB Installer and click on Browse to navigate to the ISO file you just downloaded. Click OK and the text field will be populated with the path to the ISO file. Select the drive letter that corresponds to the flash drive that you would like to use from the dropdown box. If you’ve backed up the files on this drive, we recommend checking the box to format the drive. Finally, you have to choose how much space you would like to set aside for the settings and programs that will be stored on the flash drive. Considering that Ubuntu itself only takes up around 700 MB, 1 GB should be plenty, but we’re choosing 2 GB in this example because we have lots of space on this USB drive. Click on the Create button and then make yourself a sandwich – it will take some time to install no matter how fast your PC is. Eventually it will finish. Click Close. Now you have a flash drive that will boot into a fully capable Ubuntu installation, and any changes you make will persist the next time you boot it up! Boot into Ubuntu If you’re not sure how to set your computer to boot using the USB drive, then check out the How to Boot Into Ubuntu section of our previous article on creating bootable USB drives, or refer to your motherboard’s manual. Once your computer is set to boot using the USB drive, you’ll be greeted with splash screen with some options. Press Enter to boot into Ubuntu. The first time you do this, it may take some time to boot up. Fortunately, we’ve found that the process speeds up on subsequent boots. You’ll be greeted with the Ubuntu desktop. Now, if you change settings like the desktop resolution, or install a program, those changes will be permanently stored on the USB drive! We installed avast! Antivirus, and on the next boot, found that it was still in the Accessories menu where we left it. Conclusion We think that a bootable Ubuntu USB flash drive is a great tool to have around in case your PC has problems booting otherwise. By having the changes you make persist, you can customize your Ubuntu installation to be the ultimate computer repair toolkit!
