    bool repeat_char(char *s, int n); //R: s is a C-string of at least n non-NUL characters and n > 0 //E: returns true if the first n characters are fully repeated throughout the string s, false // otherwise. I'm having trouble implementing this function using traversal by pointer. I was thinking that I could extract the first n characters from s, then use that in a comparison with s, but I'm not sure how I could do that. If I'm traversing through s one character at a time, how can I check that it matches a block of text, such as the first n characters of s? Thanks!

    Two ubuntu servers: 10.0.8.2 is the client, 192.168.20.58 is the server. Between the 2 machines, Ping works, ssh works (in both directions). What does it take to get some logging so I have some idea of WHY it won't mount?     I receive back a good oauth_verifier value from the server, but it is not being passed on via the ProcessUserAuthorization call to the access_token endpoint. I'm using DotNetOpenAuth 3.3.1, and the WebConsumer implementation. The server I'm working with is using OAuth 1.0a not 1.0.1.     Hi folks, I have a Django 'add business' view which adds a new business with an inline 'business_contact' form. The form works fine, but I'm wondering how to write up the unit test - specifically, the 'postdata' to send to self.client.post(settings.BUSINESS_ADD_URL, postdata) I've inspected the fields in my browser and tried adding post data with corresponding names, but I still get a 'ManagementForm data is missing or has been tampered with' error when run.   • Problem with ColdFusion communicating with MySQL database

    Hi, I have been working to migrate a non-profit website from a local server (running Windows XP) to a GoDaddy hosting account (running Linux). Most of the pages are written in ColdFusion. Things have gone smoothly, up until this point. There is a flash form within the site (see this page: http://www.preservenet.cornell.edu/employ/submitjob.cfm) which, when completed, takes the visitor to this page: submitjobaction.cfm . I'm not quite sure what to make of this error, since I copied exactly what had been in the old MySQL database, and the .cfm files are exactly as they had been when they worked on the old server. Am I missing something? Below is the code from the database that the error seems to be referring to. When I change "Positionlat" to some default value in the database as it suggests in the error, it says that another field needs a default value, and it's a neverending chain of errors as I try to correct it. This is probably a stupid error that I'm missing, but I've been working at it for days and can't find what I'm missing. I would really appreciate any help.     I'm getting a strange NullPointerException, evidently thrown by the following line of code: Iterator<Note> it = notes.iterator(); I've checked, and at the time the java.util.TreeSet notes is always non-null (with 15 elements). The TreeSet API says nothing about iterator() throwing NullPointerExceptions. What else could be going here?

    Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated. My problem is, that right now, I get 3 items. All 3 have image on same server. I can get two of them with this code no problem. However third one is problematic, I always get (NULL) imageLoad. On my simulator, everything works fine, I get all 3 pictures. On real device I get error. I tried to NSURLConnection with error and response so I could debug better. This is what I got in my error. I have seen many styles: using new, or leave the member variable in stack. In my point of view, using boost::shared_ptr seems friendly, but in boost itself source code there are news everywhere.     Multi-touch works fine on Windows 7 with: two-fingers scroll vertical and horizontally, two-finger tap for middle click, and three-finger tap for right click. However with Ubuntu, I've never been able to get multi-touch to "save" and work, I was able to get it to work a few times but after restarting - it would just reset back. I have the settings for two-finger scrolling on: Mouse and Touchpad Touchpad Two-finger scrolling (selected) Enable horizontal scrolling (ticked) The cursor stops moving when I try to scroll with two fingers, but it doesn't actually scroll the page.     At a new job, I've been getting flagged in code reviews for code like this: PowerManager::PowerManager(IMsgSender* msgSender) : msgSender_(msgSender) { } void PowerManager::SignalShutdown() { msgSender_->sendMsg("shutdown()"); } I'm told that last method should read: void PowerManager::SignalShutdown() { if (msgSender_) { msgSender_->sendMsg("shutdown()"); } } i.e., I must put a NULL guard around the msgSender_ variable, even though it is a private data member. It's difficult for me to restrain myself from using expletives to describe how I feel about this piece of 'wisdom'. When I ask for an explanation, I get a litany of horror stories about how some junior programmer, some-year, got confused about how a class was supposed to work and accidentally deleted a member he shouldn't have (and set it to NULL afterwards, apparently), and things blew up in the field right after a product release, and we've "learned the hard way, trust us" that it's better to just NULL check everything. To me, this feels like cargo cult programming, plain and simple. A few well-meaning colleagues are earnestly trying to help me 'get it' and see how this will help me write more robust code, but... I can't help feeling like they're the ones who don't get it. Is it reasonable for a coding standard to require that every single pointer dereferenced in a function be checked for NULL first—even private data members? (Note: To give some context, we make a consumer electronics device, not an air traffic control system or some other 'failure-equals-people-die' product.) EDIT: In the above example, the msgSender_ collaborator isn't optional. If it's ever NULL, it indicates a bug. The only reason it is passed into the constructor is so PowerManager can be tested with a mock IMsgSender subclass.

  • sscanf wrapping function to advance string pointer in C

    I have a function that makes a series of calls to sscanf() and then, after each, updates the string pointer to point to the first character not consumed by sscanf() like so: if(sscanf(str, "%d%n", &fooInt, &length) != 1) { // error handling } str+=length; In order to clean it up and avoid duplicating this several times over, i'd like to encapsulate this into a nice utility function that looks something like the following: int newSscanf ( char ** str, const char * format, ...) { int rv; int length; char buf[MAX_LENGTH]; va_list args; strcpy(buf, format); strcat(buf, "%n"); va_start(args, format); rv = vsscanf(*str, buf, args, &length); va_end(args); *str += length; return rv; } Then I could simply the calls as below to remove the additional parameter/bookkeeping: if(newSscanf(&str, "%d", &fooInt) != 1) { // error handling } Unfortunately, I can't find a way to append the &length parameter onto the end of the arg list directly or otherwise inside newSscanf(). Is there some way to work around this, or am I just as well off handling the bookkeeping by hand at each call?
