Installing Debian 7.6.0 on Lenovo Y50

I was trying to install Debian on my new laptop: a Lenovo Y50 64bit running Windows 8. I got together with a friend and installed Debian in his computer first and had no problems. However I've tried to install Debian several times using the AMD64 KDE and netinst versions and accomplished nothing. First try: installed the KDE version. Grub would let me choose which operating system I wanted, but when I selected Debian it would only load the command line. Second try: Reinstalled but this time with the netinst version. I only got a black screen where I could type but nothing else. Third Try. Tried the netinst again. This time after making the partitions I got a message that said that no EFI partition was found. I ignored the message and this time it wouldn't even load Grub. only a command like interface with grub rescue or something. Not once did I get an error during the installation. What am I doing wrong? I assume the problem is I need to make an EFI partition or something like that. So why is it that during the first installations I didn't ask me for that. And if that is indeed the problem, How can I solve it? Update So the installation failed again... as predicted. get_iplayer _ new problem

I have get_iplayer installed on a Windows 7 PC and, generally, it has worked without too many problems. Now I find that I cannot download "The Sinking of the Laconia" from the BBC. Both episodes are still available for viewing (although only episode 2 has a live ' download' option). An error message saying 'ERROR: RTMP_ReadPacket, failed to read RTMP packet header' may be relevant? If anyone can help before the programme becomes unavailable, I'd be grateful

An svn server that I managed crashed. The server is up and running again, but I can't manage to get svn running anymore. There is no content in the error logs. Any suggestions?

I'm using the WTSQuerySessionInformation function to do this and it's returning some data but most of the data seems to be missing... Does anyone know why? I have two groups, upbeat.nexus (private) and public.nexus (public). I've set up the associated repositories in Nexus already. Sending and receiving a TMemoryStream using IdTCPClient and IdTCPServer

I found Remy Lebeau's chat demo of IdTCP components in XE2 and I wanted to play with it a little bit. (It can be found here) I would like to send a picture using these components and the best approach seems to be using TMemoryStream. If I send strings, the connection works fine, the strings are transmitted successfully, however when I change it to Stream instead, it doesn't work. However, when closing the programs(after sending the MemoryStream), two things happen: If the Client is closed first, only then does the except part get processed (the log displays the 'Failed to receive' error. However, even if I place a breakpoint on the first line of the try-except block, it somehow gets skipped and only the error is displayed). If the Server is closed first, the IDE doesn't change back from debug, Client doesn't change its state to disconnected (as it normally does when server disconnects) and after the Client is closed as well, an Access Violation error from the Server app appears. I guess this means that there is a thread of the Server still running and maintaining the connection. But no matter how much time i give it, it never completes the task of receiving the MemoryStream. Note: The server uses IdSchedulerOfThreadDefault and IdAntiFreeze, if that matters. As I can't find any reliable source of help for the revamped Indy 10 (it all appears to apply for the older Indy 10, or even Indy 9), I hope you can tell me what is wrong. Android: Strange out of memory issue

I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again. SOLVED mwfeedparser integrating in my app gives EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=1, address=0xa0040008)

SOLVED- Got it! The problem was that since I am creating the DoParsingStuff *parseThisUrl object in the viewDidLoad method, it's scope was only within that method. So after the method finished, the object got deallocated. I changed it to an instance variable instead and now it works. It gives a different error but that it an entirely different issue. Issue was: I have been struggling with trying to integrate the mwfeedparser library in my app for parsing RSS and ATOM feeds. After that it starts showing me memory registers where I get lost. I think it could be due to arc as I have disabled arc on the mwfeedparser files but am using arc in the above classes. I tried it with NSZombies enabled and got a bit more info out of it: -[DoParsingStuff respondsToSelector:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x6a52480 I am not using release/autorelease/retain etc. in this class...but it is being used in the mwfeedparser library.

Custom Glassfish Security Realm does not work (unable to find LoginModule)

I'm trying to get a Custom Security Realm in Glassfish working (i tried 3.0.1 final and 3.1 B33). I read nearly all tutorials about this, but it doesn not work on my System. LazyInitializationException when adding to a list that is held within a entity class using hibernate

Right so i am working with hibernate gilead and gwt to persist my data on users and files of a website. my users have a list of file locations. i am using annotations to map my classes to the database. i am getting a org.hibernate.LazyInitializationException when i try to add file locations to the list that is held in the user class. this is a method below that is overridden from a external file upload servlet class that i am using. when the file uploads it calls this method. the user1 is loaded from the database elsewhere. the exception occurs at user1.getFileLocations().add(fileLocation); Hi, during initialization startup on tomcat, the configurations are: 1) a webapp/WEB-INF/web.xml that imports yummy-servlet.xml in contextConfigLocation (although i'm aware that is not required since the servlet-name is yummy it will try to load yummy-servlet.xml by default) 2) a webapp/WEB-INF/yummy-servlet.xml that imports a spring/applicationContext-hibernate.xml file 3) a Custom binding with WCF

I have a wcf service where i have to implement the call backs and also i need to host the wcf service on the IIS 6.0, since IIS6.0 doesnot support the net.tcp binding, i decided to go for the custom binding. The reasons for going for custom binding is that the service is accessed by different clients in different timezones. Using custom binding i can set the allowed clock skew time to other values other than the default one. I've tried using various -Xms and -Xmx options, but that seems to have no affect.
