  • Are there any issues with MySQL's i18n(indic language) support ?

    Hi All, We're evaluating MySQL and PostgreSQL for building our indic language web application which will use MySQL or PostgreSQL. One of my colleagues mentioned that MySQL had issues with i18n. I mostly come from the Oracle world and although I've played a lil with MySQL, I don't know enough to know that there are issues with its i18n support. Does anyone know issues with MySQL's i18n support and if PostgreSQL would be better placed for building an application with indic language support(kannada, telugu, tamil, etc) ? Just so you know, we're going to be using J2EE to build this application and we will be using JDBC drivers to access the DB. P.S : Will anything change if we were to use Rails to build the app instead of J2EE ? Thank you,

As I know the fastest way is to create stored procedure and to call it from code (ADO.NET).     Hello Guys..., I want to use the UseEllipses DW property in PB 10.5. I found that this property is used in PB 11 and after but I don't know if you know something more for this in PB 10.5 or another way to implement it... I 've tried this = dw_master.Modify("comments.EditMask.UseEllipsis=Yes") but an error message is shown that 'UseEllipses' is an unknown property... That's why Iam asking you if you know another way of this property, in order to use it in PB 10.5.2 Thanks in advance !!!

    Hi ! (Yes, this is a quite opened and general and subjective question -- it's by design, cause I want tips you think are great !) I'm using Eclipse PDT 2.1 to work in PHP, either for small and/or big projects -- I've been doing so for quite some times, now, actually (since before 1.0 stable, if I remember well)... I was wondering if any of you did know "tips" to be more efficient. Let met explain more in details : I know about things like plugins like Aptana (better editor for JS/CSS), Subversive (for SVN access), RSE, Filesync, integrating Xdebug's debugger, ... What I mean by "tips" is more some little things you discovered one day and since use all the time -- and allow you to be more efficient in your PHP projects. Some examples of "tips" that come to my mind, and that already know and use : ctrl+space to open the list of suggestions for functions / variables names ctrl+shift+R (navigate > open resource) to open a popup which show only files which names contain what you type ; ie, quick opening of files this one might be the perfect example : I know this one is not often known by coworkers and they find it as useful as I do ; so, I guess there might be lots of other things like this one I don't know myself ^^ ctrl+M to switch to full-screen view for the editor (instead of double-click on tabs bar) shift+F2 while on a function name, to open it's page if the PHP manual in a browser Attention Mac Users use Command instead Control. I guess you get the point ; but I'm really open to any suggestion (be it eclipse-related in general, of more PHP/PDT-specific) that can help be be more efficient :-) Anyway, thanks in advance for your help !

I am talking about from the perspective of using the AppDomain's instance method .Load(), that takes an AssemblyName object as a parameter.     Here's a listing of all the scripts loaded by Magento by default: ../js/prototype/prototype.js //prototype library ../js/prototype/validation.js //don't know what this does ../js/scriptaculous/builder.js //don't know what this does ../js/scriptaculous/effects.js //base scriptaculous effects library? ../js/scriptaculous/dragdrop.js //component of scriptaculous effects ../js/scriptaculous/controls.js //not sure? ../js/scriptaculous/slider.js //more scriptaculous effects ../js/varien/js.js //don't know what this is ../js/varien/form.js //form validation scripts? ../js/varien/menu.js //menu/drop down menu scripts ../js/mage/translate.js //don't know what this does ../js/mage/cookies.js //don't know what this does these scripts total 316.8K of javascript... all in various states of being minified (for example, prototype.js isn't minified). So my first question: 1) Aside from prototype.js, are all of the others really that needed? and 2) What is the "correct" way to remove these scripts? Layout updates? Or hardcoded in templates? I want to make the loading of my magento site as light weight as possible. thanks!

  • How to detect pending system shutdown on Linux?

    Hi, I am working on an app where I need to detect system shutdown. However, I have not found any reliable way get a notification on this event. I know that on shutdown, my app will receive a SIGTERM signal followed by a SIGKILL. What I want to know is if there is someway to query if a SIGTERM is part of a shutdown sequence? Does any one know if there is a way to query that programmatically (C API)? As far as I know, the system does not provide any other method to query for an impending shutdowm. If it does, that would solve my problem as well. I have been trying out runlevels as well, but change in runlevels seem to be instantaneous and without any prior warnings.

    If I want to know if an object has a particular property I can code this: if (SomeObject.hasOwnProperty('xyz')) { // some code } But some styles masquerade as properties at design time such as Button.color... How can I know what style properties are valid at runtime? ie: What is the equivalent of hasOwnProperty for getStyle/setStyle? In other words how can I know if an object HAS A particular style variable... When I write: MyButton.setStyle('qsfgaeWT','-33'); It won't accomplish anything, but it also doesn't error. How can I know programmatically that 'qsfgaeWT' is NOT a valid style of 'Button'??

    Do you know any easy way to know what is the length of current selection in Eclipse? I.e. I select a line fragment and would like to know how many characters are there? Usually I count them manually, but that's stupid. When being desperate I move to the start, check the column number, move to the end, check the column number, subtract, think a minute if I should add 1 or not... and my selection is lost.

    Hi all. Problem: I have CaretListener and DocumentListener listening on a JTextPane. I need an algorithm that is able to tell which line is the caret at in a JTextPane, here's an illustrative example: Result: 3rd line Result: 2nd line Result: 4th line and if the algorithm can tell which line the caret is in the JTextPane, it should be fairly easy to substring whatever that is in between the parentheses as the picture (caret is at character m of metadata): -- This is how I divide the entire text that I retrieved from the JTextPane into sentences: String[] lines = textPane.getText().split("\r?\n|\r", -1); The sentences in the textPane is separated with \n. Problem is, how can I manipulate the caret to let me know at which position and which line it is in? I know the dot of the caret says at which position it is, but I can't tell which line it is at. Assuming if I know which line the caret is, then I can just do lines[<line number>] and manipulate the string from there. In Short: How do I use CaretListener and/or DocumentListener to know which line the caret is currently at, and retrieve the line for further string manipulation? Please help. Thanks.     I can't get this to work right. This should press left for 1 second then wait 10 seconds, then right 1 second, etc.: keybd_event(0x25, 0xCB, 0, 0); // press left cout << "Ldown\n"; // so i know it worked Sleep(1000); // hold it for 1sec keybd_event(0x25, 0xCB, KEYEVENTF_KEYUP, 0);// let go of the key cout << "Lup\n"; // so i know i let go Sleep(10000); // Sleep for 10secs keybd_event(0x27, 0xCD, 0, 0); // press right cout << "Rdown\n"; // so i know i pressed right Sleep(1000); // sleep 1sec keybd_event(0x27, 0xCD, KEYEVENTF_KEYUP, 0);// let go of the key cout << "Rdown\n"; // so i know i let go. This is in a loop but it wont do anything :( Unless I close the program before the key is let go, then it will just keep the key down until I press the key again. I know you can use only one key code if you want but I need to use both. So what am I missing?

    i have a string like this: some_string = "A simple demo of SMS text messaging.\r\n+CMGW: 3216\r\n\r\nOK\r\n\" im coming from vb.net and i need to know in c#, if i know the position of CMGW, how do i get "3215" out of there? i know that my start should be the position of CMGW + 6, but how do i make it stop as soon as it finds "\r" ?? again, my end result should be 3216 thank you!
