• Is there a "dual user check-in" source control system?

  Are there any source control systems that require another user to validate the source code "before" it can be checked-in? I want to know as this is one technique to make sure that code quality is high. Update: There has been talk of "Branches" in the answers, and while I feel branches have there place I think that branchs are something different as when a developer's code is ready to go into the main branch it "should" be checked. Most often though I see that when this happens a lead developer or whoever is responsible for the merge into the main branch/stream just puts the code into the main branch as long as it "compiles" and does no more checks than that. I want the idea of two people putting their names to the code at an early stage so that it introduces some responsibility, and also because the code is cheaper to fix early on and is also fresh in the developers mind.

• Profiling Java running by JNI calls

  Hi, I have a C++ code that upon execution: Loads JVM (I have full control on how to load the JVM), and call Java methods (from loaded classes) using C JNI code. The Java code has no Main() and it is actually not a standard Java application. it is mainly a static code that compiled and compacted into Jar file, the code is being called by the C++ module. Is it possible to profile this Java code being executed by YourKit (have license for it)? If so I'll be glad to know how. Thanks, Guy

• Why does JAXB not create a member variable in its generated code when an XML schema base type and subtype have the same element declared in them?

  I have a question regarding with regard to JAXB generated classes. As you can I see, I have a complex type, DG_PaymentIdentification1, declared in my schema. Its a restriction of PaymentIdentification1. DG_PaymentIdentification1 is also identical to PaymentIdentification1. I also have a type called DG_CreditTransferTransactionInformation10 which has a base type of CreditTransferTransactionInformation10 and is identical to it. Is there any way of ensuring that DGCreditTransferTransactionInformation10 will have a DG_PaymentIdentification1 in it?

  I was wondering which way would create a faster programming language, because I have tried both. Writing code that takes the text, splits it by whitespace or newlines or something, then processes each line and has a dictionary for variables. Or writing code that takes text and converts it to another programming language.   I have need to call a webservice from an HTML helper extension I created (combinbation of Action and Image) and placed in the view as follows @Html.ActionImage("CallService", new { number = ViewBag.number, code = ViewBag.code, account = ViewBag.account, amount = ViewBag.amount }, "~/Content/sb_200x61.png", "Start the Process") I am making the action call and it calls the service and returns a string of the html response, but it doesn't look right. I am using the typical HttpWebRequest to do the POST Action in C# code. Here is the controller action code: public MvcHtmlString CallService(string number, string code, string account, decimal? amount) { string response = MyService.ServiceLayer.ClassName.callService(number, code, account, Convert.ToDecimal(amount); MvcHtmlString mstring = new MvcHtmlString(response); return mstring; } When it returns the string back it's looking like the all styling and js is removed. Code #1: <select data-bind="options: operatingSystems, optionsText: function (item) { return item.Name }, value: selectedOperatingSystem"></select> Code #2: <script type="text/html" id="os-template-detail"> <option data-bind="text: Name" class="body-text"></option> </script> <select data-bind="value: selectedOperatingSystem, template: { name: 'os-template-detail', foreach: operatingSystems }"></select> Both shows data from json correctly. With code #1, it updates the value when I select an item on the list while code #2 does not update anything when I change the item. I am pretty new to Knockout.js and have no idea why Code #2 doesn't work. Is it the limitation of Knockout that preventing me from using template and value at the same time?

  I have 3 tables to join to get table1.code, table1.series, table2.entry_date, table3.title1 and I'm trying to get the most recent non null table3.title1 grouped by table1.code and table1.series. select table1.code, table1.series, max(table2.entry_date), table3.Title1 from table3 INNER JOIN table2 ON table3.ID = table2.ID INNER JOIN table1 ON table2.source_code = table1.code where table3.Title1 is not NULL group by table1.code, table1.series, table3.Title1 seems to give me all entries with a non null title1 instead of the most recent one. How should I structure the query to just pick the newest version of Title1 per code & series?

This is my code: if condition Then Response.Write("") Response.Write(" // Javascript code to do stuff ") Response.Write("") End If While this appears to work to execute the Javascript code, I don't think it's a best practice because this code will preceed all of the HTML of the page that gets loaded.   Recently I've bumped into the following C++ code: if (a) { f(); } else if (b) { f(); } else if (c) { f(); } Where a, b and c are all different conditions, and they are not very short. I tried to change the code to: if (a || b || c) { f(); } But the author opposed saying that my change will decrease readability of the code. I had two arguments: 1) You should not increase readability by replacing one branching statement with three (though I really doubt that it's possible to make code more readable by using else if instead of ||). 2) It's not the fastest code, and no compiler will optimize this. But my arguments did not convince him. What would you tell a programmer writing such a code? Do you think complex condition is an excuse for using else if instead of OR?

• Jquery .text() seems not to work on XML in IE7

  My PHP backend sends XML response to the client (ajax): <response> <code>0</code> <message>OK</message> </response> in the javascript I'm trying to get CODE value in this way: var errorCode = $('code', xml).text(); and then depending on errorCode value I do processing. It is working fine in all browsers I tested except IE7. Instead of CODE value - it is giving me the empty string. The problem is not in 0 value, because I tried to use 5 as a code for example - the result was the same. Any ideas, because I'm stuck with :(( Thanks.
