• Accurately display upload progress in Silverilght upload

  I'm trying to debug a file upload / download issue I'm having. I've got a Silverlight file uploader, and to transmit the files I make use of the HttpWebRequest class. So I create a connection to my file upload handler on the server and begin transmitting. While a file uploads I keep track of total bytes written to the RequestStream so I can figure out a percentage. Now working at home I've got a rather slow connection, and I think Silverlight, or the browser, is lying to me. It seems that my upload progress logic is inaccurate. When I do multiple file uploads (24 images of 3-6mb big in my testing), the logic reports the files finish uploading but I believe that it only reflects the progress of written bytes to the RequestStream, not the actual amount of bytes uploaded. What is the most accurate way to measure upload progress. • Web Application Project Deployment VS2010 - Precompile Views

  Using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate I created a ASP.NET MVC 2.0 Web Application. I read http://msdn.microsoft.com/query/dev10.query?appId=Dev10IDEF1&l=EN-US&k=k%28WEBAPPLICATIONPROJECTS.PACKAGEPUBLISHOVERVIEW%29;k%28TargetFrameworkMoniker-%22.NETFRAMEWORK%2cVERSION%3dV4.0%22%29&rd=true. Its about the new features for Web Application Deployment. I dont see an option to precompile Views. Also I dont see other options that where available in previous version of Web Deployment Project: ie if the web is compiled into a single assembly or into one assembly per page. I had the impression that Application Project Deployment is the scuccessor of Web Deployment Project.. maybe I am wrong about it. How should I precompile views now?

• asp.net dynamic sitemap with querystring? Session variable seems like overkill.

  Hi, I'm using ASP.NET WebForms. I'm using the standard sitemap provider. Home User Account Entry Going to the home page should have a user selection screen. Clicking on a user should list out the user's accounts with options to edit, delete, add accounts. Selecting an account should list out all the user's account's entries with options to edit delete and add entries. How do you normally pass this information between pages? I could use the query string, but then, the sitemap doesn't work. The sitemap only has the exact page without the query string and therefore loses the information. /User/Account/List.aspx?User=123 /User/Account/Entry/List.aspx?User=123&Account=322 I could use a session variable, but this seems overkill. Thoughts and suggestions very appreciated. Thanks!

  Hi experts, I have already posted my query here, but unfortunately, not getting the required support for this simple query. http://www.anddev.org/prevent_manual_moving_of_seekbar_widget-t13048.html I am using progressbar widget in my application to show the download progress. In the current state, I am able to manually move the slider back and forth while download is progressing. How can I prevent the manual moving of progressbar, instead it works only based on progressbar.setProgress(progressbar.getProgress() + 1024); -- currently this works perfect, but I need to prevent the manual moving of progressbar during download. • How to Access a decendant object's internal method in C#

  I'm trying to access a method that is marked as internal in the parent class (in its own assembly) in an object that inherits from the same parent. Let me explain what I'm trying to do... I want to create Service classes that return IEnumberable with an underlying List to non-Service classes (e.g. the UI) and optionally return an IEnumerable with an underlying IQueryable to other services. I wrote some sample code to demonstrate what I'm trying to accomplish, shown below. The example is not real life, so please remember that when commenting. All services would inherit from something like this (only relevant code shown): public class ServiceBase<T> { protected readonly ObjectContext _context; protected string _setName = String.Empty; public ServiceBase(ObjectContext context) { _context = context; } public IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return GetAll(false); } //These are not the correct access modifiers.. I know that I can add a new internal GetAll method to each service (or perhaps an intermediary parent class within the same assembly) so that each child service within the assembly can see each other's method; but it seems unnecessary since the functionality is already available in the parent class. For example: internal IEnumerable<Employees> GetAll(bool returnIQueryable) { return base.GetAll(returnIQueryable); } Essentially what I want is for services to be able to access other service methods as IQueryable so that they can further refine the uncommitted results, while everyone else gets plain old lists. Any ideas?

Is IDEA all wet here, or is there a valid issue with the query? And what is the actual preferred alternative syntax for such a query?

  How do I configure the squid to only request text/html to the parent cache; right now I am using : cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 8080 0 no-query no-digest on the second hand I get a lot of direct request that do not use the parent proxy: some queries go like FIRST_UP_PARENT and some like DIRECT, how do I tell the squid to always use parent for text/html BTW .. is a transparent proxy I have tried : cache_peer 127.0.0.1 parent 8080 0 no-query no-digest acl elhtml req_mime_type -i ^text/html$ acl elhtml req_mime_type -i text/html cache_peer_access 127.0.0.1 allow elhtml cache_peer_access 127.0.0.1 deny all and it does not works Thanks in advance for the help.

  I have two hypothetical classes, Foo and Bar. Foo contains many Bars. Bar can only belong to one Foo. Ultimately the SQL query I'm trying to make happen looks like the following: SELECT * from bar INNER JOIN foo ON bar.foo_id = foo.id where bar.in_use = 0 and bar.customer_id = 1 and foo.category = 0 That query does what I need. Now I'm trying to break the problem down in Rails using chained named_scopes. Also, I enabled the trace on the driver, which gives you some nice autotrace (ala Oracle) info as long as the query succeeds. But in this case, the driver blows a NoHostAvailableException and no ExecutionInfo is available, so tracing has not provided any benefit in this case. I also find it interesting that this does not seem to be recorded as a timeout (my JMX consoles tell me no timeouts have occurred). So, I am left not understanding WHERE the failure is actually occurring. I am left with the idea that it is the driver that is having a problem, but I don't know how to debug it (and I would really like to). I have read several posts from folks that state that query'g for resultSets 10000 rows is probably not a good idea, and I am willing to accept this, but I would like to understand what is causing the exception and where the exception is happening. FWIW, I also tried bumping the timeout properties in the cassandra.yaml, but this made no difference whatsoever. I welcome any suggestions, anecdotes, insults, or monetary contributions for my registration in the house of moron-developers. Regards!!

I get that .All() isn't supported by Linq to SQL, but is there a way to do what I am trying to do?

  Hi, I have a messy stored procedure which uses dynamic sql. I can debug it in runtime by adding print @sql; where @sql; is the string containing the dynamic SQL, right before I call execute (@sql);. Now, the multi-page stored procedure also creates dynamic tables and uses them in a query. I want to print those tables to the console right before I do an execute, so that I know exactly what the query is trying to do. However, the SQL Server 08 does not like that. When I try: print #temp_table; and try to compile the S.P. I get this error: The name "#temp_table" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted. Please help.

• trouble with utf-8 chars & apache2 rewrite rules

  I see the post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2565864/validating-utf-8-in-htaccess-rewrite-rule and I think that is great, but a more fundamental problem I am having first: I needed to expand to handle utf-8 chars for query string parameters, names of directories, files, and used in displays to users etc. I configured my Apache with DefaultCharset utf-8 and also my php if that matters. My original rewrite rule filtered everything except regular A-Za-z and underscore and hyphen. and it worked. Anything else would give you a 404 (which is what I want!) Now, however it seems that everything matches, including stuff I don't want, however, although it seems to match it doesn't go in the query string unless it is a regular A-Za-z_- character string. I find this confusing, because the rule says put whatever you matched into the query string: Here is the original rule: RewriteRule ^/puzzle/([A-Za-z_-]+)$ /puzzle.php?g=$1 [NC] and here is the revised rule: RewriteRule ^/puzzle/(\w+)$ /puzzle.php?g=$1 [NC] I made the change because somewhere I read that \w matches ALL the alpha chars where as A-Zetc. only matches the ones without accents and stuff. It doesn't seem to matter which of those rules I use: Here is what happens: In the application I have this: echo $_GET['g']; If I feed it a url like http://mydomain.com/puzzle/USA it echoes out "USA" and works fine. If I feed it a url like http://mydomain.com/puzzle/México it echoes nothing for that and warns me that index g is not defined and of course doesn't get resources for Mexico. if I feed it a url like http://mydomain.com/puzzle/fuzzle/buzzle/j.qle it does the same thing. This last case should be a 404! And it does this no matter which of the above rules I use. I configured a rewrite log RewriteLogLevel 5 RewriteLog /opt/local/apache2/logs/puzzles.httpd.rewrite but it is empty. Here is from the regular access log (it gives a status of 200) [26/May/2010:11:21:42 -0700] "GET /puzzle/M%C3%A9xico HTTP/1.1" 200 342 [26/May/2010:11:21:54 -0700] "GET /puzzle/M/l.foo HTTP/1.1" 200 342 What can I do to get these $%#$@(*#@!!! characters but not slash, dot or other non-alpha into my program, and once there, will it decode them correctly??? Would posix char classes work any better? Is there anything else I need to configure?

In IE8 however, all of my AJAX test requests work EXCEPT for ones where I'm performing GETs without any query string params (such as the one above). POSTs work without question, and GET requests only work whenever I include query strings in the URL, like this: xhr.open( 'GET', '/ajax/?foo=bar' ) I'm also 110% positive that my server code is handling these requests appropriately, so, this stumps me completely. Does anyone have any clue as to what might be causing this?

• Getting results in a result set from dynamic SQL in Oracle

  This question is similar to a couple others I have found on StackOverflow, but the differences are signficant enough to me to warrant a new question, so here it is: I want to obtain a result set from dynamic SQL in Oracle and then display it as a result set in a SqlDeveloper-like tool, just as if I had executed the dynamic SQL statement directly. This is straightforward in SQL Server, so to be concrete, here is an example from SQL Server that returns a result set in SQL Server Management Studio or Query Explorer: EXEC sp_executesql N'select * from countries' Or more properly: DECLARE @stmt nvarchar(100) SET @stmt = N'select * from countries' EXEC sp_executesql @stmt The question "How to return a resultset / cursor from a Oracle PL/SQL anonymous block that executes Dynamic SQL?" addresses the first half of the problem--executing dynamic SQL into a cursor. The question "How to make Oracle procedure return result sets" provides a similar answer. Web search has revealed many variations of the same theme, all addressing just the first half of my question. I found this post explaining how to do it in SqlDeveloper, but that uses a bit of functionality of SqlDeveloper. I am actually using a custom query tool so I need the solution to be self-contained in the SQL code. This custom query tool similarly does not have the capability to show output of print (dbms_output.put_line) statements; it only displays result sets. Here is yet one more possible avenue using 'execute immediate...bulk collect', but this example again renders the results with a loop of dbms_output.put_line statements. This link attempts to address the topic but the question never quite got answered there either. Assuming this is possible, I will add one more condition: I would like to do this without having to define a function or procedure (due to limited DB permissions). That is, I would like to execute a self-contained PL/SQL block containing dynamic SQL and return a result set in SqlDeveloper or a similar tool. So to summarize: I want to execute an arbitrary SQL statement (hence dynamic SQL). The platform is Oracle. The solution must be a PL/SQL block with no procedures or functions. The output must be generated as a canonical result set; no print statements. The output must render as a result set in SqlDeveloper without using any SqlDeveloper special functionality. Any suggestions?

On XP this works fine without being admin. On this link MS states that 'Windows 7: Low-integrity users have read-only permissions for local WMI operations.'. I guess this is the problem. But I can't find any clue on how to change this.
