• Can't connect to SSL web service with WS-Security using PHP SOAP extension - certificate, complex WSDL

  Using the PHP5 SOAP extension I have been unable to connect to a web service having an https endpoint, with client certificate and using WS-Security, although I can connect using soapUI with the exact same wsdl and client certificate, and obtain the normal response to the request. There is no HTTP authentication and no proxy is involved. The message I get is 'Could not connect to host'. Have been able to verify that I am NOT hitting the host server. (Earlier I wrongly said that I was hitting the server.) The self-signed client SSL certificate is a .pem file converted by openssl from a .p12 keystore which in turn was converted by keytool from a .jks keystore having a single entry consisting of private key and client certificate. In soapUI I did not need to supply a server private certificate, the only two files I gave it were the wdsl and pem. I did have to supply the pem and its passphrase to be able to connect. I am speculating that despite the error message my problem might actually be in the formation of the XML request rather than the SSL connection itself. The wsdl I have been given has nested complex types. The php server is on my Windows XP laptop with IIS. The code, data values and WSDL extracts are shown below. (The WSSoapClient class simply extends SoapClient, adding a WS-Security Username Token header with mustUnderstand = true and including a nonce, both of which the soapUI call had required.) Would so much appreciate any help. I'm a newbie thrown in at the deep end, and how! Have done vast amounts of Googling on this over many days, following many suggestions and have read Pro PHP by Kevin McArthur. An attempt to use classmaps in place of nested arrays also fell flat. • Keeping the DI-container usage in the composition root in Silverlight and MVVM

  It's not quite clear to me how I can design so I keep the reference to the DI-container in the composition root for a Silverlight + MVVM application. I have the following simple usage scenario: there's a main view (perhaps a list of items) and an action to open an edit view for one single item. So the main view has to create and show the edit view when the user takes the action (e.g. clicks some button). For this I have the following code: public interface IView { IViewModel ViewModel {get; set;} } Then, for each view that I need to be able to create I have an abstract factory, like so public interface ISomeViewFactory { IView CreateView(); } This factory is then declared a dependency of the "parent" view model, like so: public class SomeParentViewModel { public SomeParentViewModel(ISomeViewFactory viewFactory) { // store it } private void OnSomeUserAction() { IView view = viewFactory.CreateView(); dialogService.ShowDialog(view); } } So all is well until here, no DI-container in sight :). Now comes the implementation of ISomeViewFactory: public class SomeViewFactory : ISomeViewFactory { public IView CreateView() { IView view = new SomeView(); view.ViewModel = ???? } } The "????" part is my problem, because the view model for the view needs to be resolved from the DI-container so it gets its dependencies injected. What I don't know is how I can do this without having a dependency to the DI-container anywhere except the composition root. One possible solution would be to have either a dependency on the view model that gets injected into the factory, like so: public class SomeViewFactory : ISomeViewFactory { public SomeViewFactory(ISomeViewModel viewModel) { // store it } public IView CreateView() { IView view = new SomeView(); view.ViewModel = viewModel; } } While this works, it has the problem that since the whole object graph is wired up "statically" (i.e. the "parent" view model will get an instance of SomeViewFactory, which will get an instance of SomeViewModel, and these will live as long as the "parent" view model lives), the injected view model implementation is stateful and if the user opens the child view twice, the second time the view model will be the same instance and have the state from before. I guess I could work around this with an "Initialize" method or something similar, but it doesn't smell quite right. Another solution might be to wrap the DI-container and have the factories depend on the wrapper, but it'd still be a DI-container "in disguise" there :) Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated. Also, please forgive any mistakes or rule-breaking, since this is my first post on stackoverflow :) Thanks! ps: my current solution is that the factories know about the DI-container, and it's only them and the composition root that have this dependency.

• Keeping WPF grids from getting out of parent bounds

  In my UI, I have a big grid with two columns and one row. in the right column, I have a grid with three rows where in the top row I have a user control, and in the two bottom rows I have two Expander objects, each containing an ItemsControl with a list that gets populated in runtime. Sometimes, that list gets really long and "spills" from the screen towards the bottom. What I want to do is to allow the user to see both expanders, be able to expand or collapse them while keeping them both in sight. I tried wrapping them in WrapPanels or StackPanel but to no avail. Please look at this website-notice the newsletter signup form at the top right. http://www.rattletree.com I am wanting it to look exactly this way for now, but when the user clicks in the box to enter their email address, the containing div will expand (or simply appear) above the email field to also include a "name" and "city" field. • Using a large list of terms, search through page text and replace words with links

  A while ago I posted this question asking if it's possible to convert text to HTML links if they match a list of terms from my database. I have a fairly huge list of terms - around 6000. The accepted answer on that question was superb, but having never used XPath, I was at a loss when problems started occurring. At one point, after fiddling with code, I somehow managed to add over 40,000 random characters to our database - the majority of which required manual removal. Since then I've lost faith in that idea and the more simple PHP solutions simply weren't efficient enough to deal with the amount of data and the quantity of terms. My next attempt at a solution is to write a JS script which, once the page has loaded, retrieves the terms and matches them against the text on a page. This answer has an idea which I'd like to attempt. I would use AJAX to retrieve the terms from the database, to build an object such as this: var words = [ { word: 'Something', link: 'http://www.something.com' }, { word: 'Something Else', link: 'http://www.something.com/else' } ]; When the object has been built, I'd use this kind of code: //for each array element $.each(words, function() { //store it ("this" is gonna become the dom element in the next function) var search = this; $('.message').each( function() { //if it's exactly the same if ($(this).text() === search.word) { //do your magic tricks $(this).html('<a href="' + search.link + '">' + search.link + '</a>'); } } ); } ); Now, at first sight, there is a major issue here: with 6,000 terms, will this code be in any way efficient enough to do what I'm trying to do?. One option would possibly be to perform some of the overhead within the PHP script that the AJAX communicates with. For instance, I could send the ID of the post and then the PHP script could use SQL statements to retrieve all of the information from the post and match it against all 6,000 terms.. then the return call to the JavaScript could simply be the matching terms, which would significantly reduce the number of matches the above jQuery would make (around 50 at most). I have no problem with the script taking a few seconds to "load" on the user's browser, as long as it isn't impacting their CPU usage or anything like that. So, two questions in one: Can I make this work? What steps can I take to make it as efficient as possible? Thanks in advance,

• vCenter appliance won't use mail relay server

  tl;dr: - sendmail is configured to use a relay server but still insists on using 127.0.01 as the relay, which results in mail not being sent. We have the open source vCenter appliance (v 5.0) managing our ESXi cluster. When connected to it via vSphere Client, you can configure the SMTP relay server to use by going to Administration > vCenter Server Settings > MAIL. There you can set the SMTP Server value. I looked through their documentation and also confirmed on the phone with support that all you have to do to configure mail is to put in the relay IP or fqdn in that box and hit OK. Well, I had done that and mail still wasn't sending. So I SSH into the server (which is SuSE) and look at /var/log/mail and it looks like it's trying to relay the email through 127.0.0.1 and it's rejecting it. So looking through the config files, I see there's /etc/sendmail.cf and /etc/mail/submit.cf. You can configure items in /etc/sysconfig/sendmail and run SuSEconfig --module sendmail to generate those to .cf files based on what's in /etc/sysconfig/sendmail. So playing around, I see that when you set the SMTP Server value in the vCenter gui, all that it does is change the "DS" line in /etc/mail/submit.cf to have DS[myrelayserver.com]. Looking on the internet, it would appear that the DS line is really the only thing you need to change in order to use a relay server. I got on the phone with VMWare support and spent 2 hours trying to modify ANY setting that had anything to do with relays and we couldn't get it to NOT use 127.0.0.1 as the relay. Just to note, any time we made any sort of configuration change, we restarted the sendmail service. Does anyone know whats going on? Have any ideas on how I can fix this?

  I'm trying to run the non-GUI version of configuration wizard using power shell because I would like to set config and admin database names. GUI wizard doesn't give you all possible options for configuration. • Why does my PowerShell script hang when called in PSEXEC via a batch (.cmd) file?

  I'm trying to remotely execute a PowerShell script using PSEXEC. The PowerShell script is called via a .cmd batch file. The reason we do this is to change the execution policy, run the powershell script then reset the execution policy again: On the remote server do-tasks.cmd looks like: powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" powershell DoTasks.ps1 powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy restricted}" The PowerShell script DoTasks.ps1 just does this for now: Write-Output "Hello World!" Both of these scripts live in c:\windows\system32 (for now) just so they're on the PATH. On the originating server I do this: psexec \\web1928 -u administrator -p "adminpassword" do-tasks.cmd When this runs I get the following response at the command line: c:\Windows\system32>powershell -command "&{ set-executionpolicy unrestricted}" and the script runs no further. I can't ctrl-c to break the script and I just see ^C characters, I can type input from the keyboard and the characters are echoed to console. On the remote server I see that PowerShell.exe and CMD.exe are running in Task Manager's Process tab. If I end these processes then control returns to the command line on the originating server. I have tried this with just a simple .cmd batch file with a @echo hello world and it works just fine. Running do-tasks.cmd on the remote server via an RDP session works ok as well. Why is my remote batch file getting stuck when executing via PSEXEC?

  I just added the following lines in /etc/mysql/my.cnf after I converted one database to use InnoDB engine. innodb_buffer_pool_size = 2560M innodb_log_file_size = 256M innodb_log_buffer_size = 8M innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit = 2 innodb_thread_concurrency = 16 innodb_flush_method = O_DIRECT But it raise "ERROR 2013 (HY000) at line 2: Lost connection to MySQL server during query" error restarting mysqld. And mysql error log shows the following InnoDB: Error: log file ./ib_logfile0 is of different size 0 5242880 bytes InnoDB: than specified in the .cnf file 0 268435456 bytes! 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed. 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Unknown/unsupported table type: InnoDB 100118 20:52:52 [ERROR] Aborting So I commented out this line # innodb_log_file_size = 256M And it restarted mysql successfully. I wonder what's the "5242880 bytes of log file" showed in mysql error? It's the first database on InnoDB engine on this server so when and where is that log file created? In this case, how can I enable innodb_log_file_size directive in my.cnf? EDIT I tried to delete /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile0 and restart mysqld but it still failed. It now shows the following in error log. 100118 21:27:11 InnoDB: Log file ./ib_logfile0 did not exist: new to be created InnoDB: Setting log file ./ib_logfile0 size to 256 MB InnoDB: Database physically writes the file full: wait... Resolution It works now after deleted both ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 in /var/lib/mysql

• How to tune down the Hyperic built-in postgresql database for a small setup

  We are testing out Hyperic 4.5.1 in a quite small environment for now. Currently there are just 1-5 agents and there probably won't be any more than 10-15. When I run ps ax there are 20(!) postgres processes running. For a small setup like this, that can't be necessary, can it? I'm a software developer and don't have much experience with setting up servers and such though, so don't really know. Either way, what settings are appropriate for a small Hyperic setup like this? • Launching a PHP daemon from an LSB init script w/ start-stop-daemon

  I'm writing an lsb init script (admittedly something I've never done from scratch) that launches a php script that daemonizes itself. The php script starts off like so: #!/usr/bin/env php <?php /* do some stuff */ It's then started like so in the init script: # first line is args to start-stop-daemon, second line is args to php-script start-stop-daemon --start --exec /path/to/executable/php-script.php \ -- --daemon --pid-file=$PIDFILE --other-php-script-args The --daemon flag causes the php script to detach & run as a daemon itself, rather than relying on start-stop-daemon to detach it. This is how it's (trying to) stop it in the init script: start-stop-daemon --stop --oknodo --exec /path/to/executable/php-script.php \ --pidfile $PIDFILE The problem is, when I try to stop via the init script, it gives me this: $ sudo /etc/init.d/my-lsb-init-script stop * Stopping My Project No /path/to/executable/php-script.php found running; none killed. ...done. A quick peek at ps tells me that, even though the php script itself is executable, its running as php <script> rather than the script name itself, which is keeping start-stop-daemon from seeing it.
