  • Why does my TextBox with custom control template not have a visible text cursor?

    I have a custom control template which is set via the style property on a TextBox. The visual poperties are set correctly, even typing to the textbox works, but there is no insertion cursor (the | symbol) visible which makes editing challenging for our users. Person has some common attributes for player and other staff types. One club can have multiple teams. Employed person has to have a contract with a club. Player (is the specification of person) - if emplyed - can be assigned to one of the club's teams. Is there better way to design my structure? I thought about excluding the club_id from team's primary key, but I would like to know if this is the only way. Thanks. UPDATE 1 I would like to have the id as team identification only within the club, so multiple teams can have equal id as long as they belong to different clubs. Is it possible? UPDATE 2 updated the naming convention as adviced by philip Some business rules to better understand the structure: One club can have 1..n teams (Main squad, Reserve squad, Youth squad or Team A, Team B... only team can play match, not club) One team belongs to one club only A player is type of person (other types (staff) are scouts, coaches etc so they do not need to belong to specific team, just to the club, if employed) Person can have 0..1 contract with 1 club (that means he is employed or unemployed) Player (if employed) belongs to one team of the club Now thinking about it - moving team_id from player to contract would solve my problem, and it could hold the condition "Player (if employed) belongs to one team of the club", but it would be redundant for other staff types. What do you think?

  • Weird GWT issue causing IE threads to skyrocket.

    I'm not sure if this is an issue with GWT, JavaScript, Java, IE or just poor programming, but I'll try to explain. We're implementing web based chat program at work and some of our users have unreliable connections. So we're running into issues where they send out a new message and after x number of milliseconds have passed, the XHR request timesout and the client tries to resend the message again. The issue we ran into was sometimes the message would make it to the server and into the DB, but the XHR request wouldn't make it back to the client so the client was essentially retrying requests that had alread made it to the server. To mitigate this issue, we now send along a count/key with the message. The client says, hey I'm sending msg 50 and it's text is this. If the server already has that message, it just sends back "ok, I got it" and doens't insert into the DB again, eliminating dupes. So the client is free to keep retrying over and over until finally a call comes back from the server saying "Ok, I got it" and then it increments the key and moves on (or we keep them out of the chat if it fails enough). Anyway, so that's the background of what we're doing. The issue is, when we add this code on some versions of IE the threads start increasing gradually everytime it's accessed. On IE8 for Windows7 x64 it doesn't really seem to do it, but on IE8 for Windows Vista x86 it does. So I can't really pinpoint if it's a fluke or my code. Maybe someone had some ideas on a better way to do this. Here is some pseudo code: (the issue seems appear where I increment messageCount?   • database design help for game / user levels / progress

    Sorry this got long and all prose-y. I'm creating my first truly gamified web app and could use some help thinking about how to structure the data. The Set-up Users need to accomplish tasks in each of several categories before they can move up a level. I've got my Users, Tasks, and Categories tables, and a UserTasks table which joins the three. ("User 3 has added Task 42 in Category 8. Now they've completed it.") That's all fine and working wonderfully. The Challenge I'm not sure of the best way to track the progress in the individual categories toward each level. The "business" rules are: You have to achieve a certain number of points in each category to move up. If you get the number of points needed in Cat 8, but still have other work to do to complete the level, any new Cat 8 points count toward your overall score, but don't "roll over" into the next level. The number of Categories is small (five currently) and unlikely to change often, but by no means absolutely fixed. The number of points needed to level-up will vary per level, probably by a formula, or perhaps a lookup table. So the challenge is to track each user's progress toward the next level in each category. I've thought of a few potential approaches: Possible Solutions Add a column to the users table for each category and reset them all to zero each time a user levels-up. Have a separate UserProgress table with a row for each category for each user and the number of points they have. (Basically a Many-to-Many version of #1.) Add a userLevel column to the UserTasks table and use that to derive their progress with some kind of SUM statement. Their current level will be a simple int in the User table. Pros & Cons (1) seems like by far the most straightforward, but it's also the least flexible. Perhaps I could use a naming convention based on the category ids to help overcome some of that. (With code like "select cats; for each cat, get the value from Users.progress_{cat.id}.") It's also the one where I lose the most data -- I won't know which points counted toward leveling up. I don't have a need in mind for that, so maybe I don't care about that. (2) seems complicated: every time I add or subtract a user or a category, I have to maintain the other table. I foresee synchronization challenges. (3) Is somewhere in between -- cleaner than #2, but less intuitive than #1. In order to find out where a user is, I'd have mildly complex SQL like: SELECT categoryId, SUM(points) from UserTasks WHERE userId={user.id} & countsTowardLevel={user.level} groupBy categoryId Hmm... that doesn't seem so bad. I think I'm talking myself into #3 here, but would love any input, advice or other ideas.

    In unmanaged c++ dll i have a function which takes constant std::string as argument Prototype : void read ( const std::string &amp;imageSpec_ ) I call this function from managed c++ dll by passing a std::string. When i debug the unmanaged c++ code the parameter imageSpec_ shows the value correctly but does not allow me to copy that value in other variable. imageSpec_.copy( sFilename, 4052 ); It shows length of imageSpec_ as 0(zero). If i try copying like std::string sTempFileName(imageSpec_); this statement string new string is a empty string. But for std::string sTempFileName(imageSpec_.c_str()); this statement string gets copied correctly. i.e. with charpointer string is copied correctly. Copying this way will need a major change in unmanaged c++ code. I am building unmanaged code in Visual studio 6.0 and managed c++ in Visual studio 2008. Is there any specific setting or code change in managed c++ that will solve the issue?

    I was looking into google.com's Net activity in firebug just because I was curious and noticed a request was returning "204 No Content." It turns out that a 204 No Content "is primarily intended to allow input for actions to take place without causing a change to the user agent's active document view, although any new or updated metainformation SHOULD be applied to the document currently in the user agent's active view." Whatever. I've looked into the JS source code and saw that "generate_204" is requested like this: (new Image).src="http://clients1.google.com/generate_204" No variable declaration/assignment at all. My first idea is that it was being used to track if Javascript is enabled. But the "(new Image).src='...'" call is called from a dynamically loaded external JS file anyway, so that would be pointless. Anyone have any ideas as to what the point could be? UPDATE "/generate_204" appears to be available on many google services/servers (e.g., maps.google.com/generate_204, maps.gstatic.com/generate_204, etc...). You can take advantage of this by pre-fetching the generate_204 pages for each google-owned service your web app may use.     Hi I seem to have the strangest problem. I am using logparser to search an event log for some text that I know is there (i copied and pasted the string from the event into the sql search string). But the sql LIKE statement is returning a empty results. But other LIKE statments seem to be working file.     I just can't figure out this memory leak that EurekaLog is reporting for my program. I'm using Delphi 2009.     Hello, I have a flash video using the standard FLV Playback component that comes with Flash. I'm using ActionScript 3 to modify the appearance and set up an event listener. I've set it up to go to a new URL using "externalInterface" when the video completes play. The URL is set in a variable using SWFObject. On only a few instances (3 people out of 50 - tested using Amazon Turk), people reported being taken directly to the new url, before the video even started playing. It's difficult to repeat the issue, but it did happen to me once. It doesn't have anything to do with cache, since it has been reported on people going to the url for the first time.     I have an application that will have 5-15 buttons depending on what is available from a backend. How do I define the proper GridView layout files to include an array of buttons that will each have different text and other attributes? Each button will essentially add an item to a cart, so the onClick code will be the same except for the item it adds to the cart. How can I define an array so I can add a variable number of buttons, but still reference each of them by a unique ID? I've seen examples of the arrays.xml, but they have created an array of strings that are pre-set. I need a way to create an object and not have the text defined in the layout or arrays xml file. Update - Added info about adding to a GridView I want to add this to a GridView, so calling the addView method results in an UnsupportedOperationException. I can do the following: ImageButton b2 = new ImageButton(getApplicationContext()); b2.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.img_3); android.widget.LinearLayout container = (android.widget.LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.lay); container.addView(b2); but that doesn't layout the buttons in a grid like I would like. Can this be done in a GridView?

    I have a script that acts as a wrapper for some unit tests written using the Python unittest module. In addition to cleaning up some files, creating an output stream and generating some code, it loads test cases into a suite using unittest.TestLoader().loadTestsFromTestCase() I am already using optparse to pull out several command-line arguments used for determining the output location, whether to regenerate code and whether to do some clean up. I also want to pass a configuration variable, namely an endpoint URI, for use within the test cases. I realize I can add an OptionParser to the setUp method of the TestCase, but I want to instead pass the option to setUp. Is this possible using loadTestsFromTestCase()? I can iterate over the returned TestSuite's TestCases, but can I manually call setUp on the TestCases? ** EDIT ** I wanted to point out that I am able to pass the arguments to setUp if I iterate over the tests and call setUp manually like: (options, args) = op.parse_args() suite = unittest.TestLoader().loadTestsFromTestCase(MyTests.TestSOAPFunctions) for test in suite: test.setUp(options.soap_uri) However, I am using xmlrunner for this and its run method takes a TestSuite as an argument. I assume it will run the setUp method itself, so I would need the parameters available within the XMLTestRunner. I hope this makes sense.

  • JavaMail not sending Subject or From under jetty:run-war

    Has anyone seen JavaMail not sending proper MimeMessages to an SMTP server, depending on how the JVM in started? At the end of the day, I can't send JavaMail SMTP messages with Subject: or From: fields, and it appears other headers are missing, only when running the app as a war. The web project is built with Maven and I'm testing sending JavaMail using a browser and a simple mail.jsp to debug and see different behavior when launching the app with: 1) mvn jetty:run (mail sends fine, with proper Subject and From fields) 2) mvn jetty:run-war (mail sends fine, but missing Subject, From, and other fields) I've meticulously run diff on the (verbose) Maven debug output (-X), and there are zero differences in the runtime dependencies between the two. I've also compared System properties, and they are identical. Something else is happening the jetty:run-war case that changes the way JavaMail behaves. What other stones need turning? Curiously, I've tried a debugger in both situations and found that the javax.mail.internet.MimeMessage instance is getting created differently. The webapp is using Spring to send email picked off of an Apache ActiveMQ queue. When running the app as mvn jetty:run the MimeMessage.contentStream variable is used for message content. When running as mvn jetty:run-war, the MimeMessage.content variable is used for the message contents, and the content = ASCIIUtility.getBytes(is); call removes all of the header data from the parsed content. Since this seemed very odd, and debugging Spring/ActiveMQ is a deep dive, I created a simplified test without any of that infrastructure: just a JSP using mail-1.4.2.jar, yet the same headers are missing. Also of note, these headers are missing when running the WAR file under Tomcat 5.5.27. Tomcat behaves just like Jetty when running the WAR, with the same missing headers. With JavaMail debugging turned on, I clearly see different output.     Hello! I'm having trouble creating a non-persistent cookie using the FormsAuthenticationTicket. I want to store userdata in the ticket, so i can't use FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie() or FormsAuthentication.GetAuthCookie() methods. Because of this I need to create the FormsAuthenticationTicket and store it in a HttpCookie. My code looks like this: DateTime expiration = DateTime.Now.AddDays(7); // Create ticket FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(2, user.Email, DateTime.Now, expiration, isPersistent, userData, FormsAuthentication.FormsCookiePath); // Create cookie HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(ticket)); cookie.Path = FormsAuthentication.FormsCookiePath; if (isPersistent) cookie.Expires = expiration; // Add cookie to response HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); When the variable isPersistent is true everything works fine and the cookie is persisted. But when isPersistent is false the cookie seems to be persisted anyway. I sign on in a browser window, closes it and opens the browser again and I am still logged in. How do i set the cookie to be non-persistent? Is a non-persistent cookie the same as a session cookie? Is the cookie information stored in the sessiondata on the server or are the cookie transferred in every request/response to the server? Thanks in advance! /Marcus

  • How far did DevExpress get with Javascript refactoring?

    Over a year ago, I remember watching one of DevExpress evangelists previewing or at least promoting rich Javascript refactoring (beyond just limited intellisense) within the Visual Studio shell, I recall part of CodeRush/DevExpress product line. I was excited. On checking today (lmgtfy) I can find only very very limited reference to it, just one small italtic line about beta in product description, no videos, no blog posts, no community buzz. Was it dropped? Vapourware? Poor implementation that they dont even promote it? With Javascript arguably the most popular programming language ever and with a VM for it on practically every machine in last 10 years, why is editor support so poor? (Compared with those for Java and C#)? You see the likes of ScottGu bragging we now have jQuery intellisense but compare this to richness of C# support in the IDE it is a joke. Someone once said since there are many style of writing Javascript a rich IDE (beyond intellisense) with refactoring support is difficult, but if several engines can interpret/compile JS with same result surely it should be hard to analysis it to support stuff like rename variable, extract method, move to another namespace (or JS minic of it), etc.. Am I wrong?

I replaced $DataSet.Tables[0] with for ($i=0;$i -lt $DataSet.tables.count;$i++){ $Dataset.Tables[$i] } but the console only shows the content of the first table and blank lines for each records of what should be the second table. The only way to see the result is to change the code to $Dataset.Tables[$i] | out-string but I do not want strings, I want to have table objects to work with. When I assign what is returned by the Invoke-SQLCommand to a variable, I can see that I have an array of datarow objects but only from the first table. What happened to the second table?     I would like to exchange information between two nested JSP tagx artifacts. To give an example: list.jspx <myNs:table data="${myTableData}"> <myNs:column property="firstName" label="First Name"/> <myNs:column property="lastName" label="Last Name"/> </myNs:table> Now, the table.tagx is supposed to display the data columns as defined in the nested column tags. The question is how do I get access to the values of the property and label attributes of the nested column tags from the table tag. I tried jsp:directive.variable but that seems only to work to exchange information between a jsp and a tag, but not between nested tags. Note, I would like to avoid using java backing objects for both the table and the column tags at all. I would also like to know how I can access an attribute defined by a parent tag (in this example I would like to access the contents of the data attribute in table.tagx from column.tagx). So it boils down to how can I access variables between nested JSP tags which are purely implemented through the tag definitions themselves (no Java TagHandler implementation desired)?
