  • MySQL Full-text Search Workaround for innoDB tables

    - by Rob
    I'm designing an internal web application that uses MySQL as its backend database. The integrity of the data is crucial, so I am using the innoDB engine for its foreign key constraint features. I want to do a full-text search of one type of records, and that is not supported natively with innoDB tables. I'm not willing to move to MyISAM tables due to their lack of foreign key support and due to the fact that their locking is per table, not per row. Would it be bad practice to create a mirrored table of the records I need to search using the MyISAM engine and use that for the full-text search? This way I'm just searching a copy of the data and if anything happens to that data it's not as big of a deal because it can always be re-created. Or is this an awkward way of doing this that should be avoided? Thanks.

  • Reverse Search Best Practices?

    - by edub
    I'm making an app that has a need for reverse searches. By this, I mean that users of the app will enter search parameters and save them; then, when any new objects get entered onto the system, if they match the existing search parameters that a user has saved, a notification will be sent, etc. I am having a hard time finding solutions for this type of problem. I am using Django and thinking of building the searches and pickling them using Q objects as outlined here: http://www.djangozen.com/blog/the-power-of-q The way I see it, when a new object is entered into the database, I will have to load every single saved query from the db and somehow run it against this one new object to see if it would match that search query... This doesn't seem ideal - has anyone tackled such a problem before?

  • fastest way to perform string search in general and in python

    - by Rkz
    My task is to search for a string or a pattern in a list of documents that are very short (say 200 characters long). However, say there are 1 million documents of such time. What is the most efficient way to perform this search?. I was thinking of tokenizing each document and putting the words in hashtable with words as key and document number as value, there by creating a bag of words. Then perform the word search and retrieve the list of documents that contained this word. From what I can see is this operation will take O(n) operations. Is there any other way? may be without using hash-tables?. Also, is there a python library or third party package that can perform efficient searches?

  • Android search list, String

    - by NightSky
    Hey guys what is the best way to search through my list of objects, they return a few strings, last name and first name for example. Here how i'm currently searching but my search needs to match the entire string which I don't want. The search needs it to match part of the string like our contacts list on our phone and ignore the case. if (searchQ.equalsIgnoreCase(child.first_name)) { addChildToList(child); } Ive tried contains and starts with for example, they did not work. Whats going on? Thanks! Cheers!

  • In Chrome, is there a way to search only within my bookmarked sites?

    - by McGirl
    I'm not trying to search for a bookmark - I'm trying to search for a term that may appear on one of my bookmarked sites. For instance, if I wanted to search on the term "Obama" and restrict my query to the New York Times web site, I know I could type this into the main URL/Search bar in Chrome: obama site:nytimes.com I'm wondering if there's a way to change that so that it's effectively: obama site:any one of the sites in my Chrome bookmark folder Thanks in advance for your help!

  • "I'm Feeling Lucky"-style behavior in Windows 8.1 search?

    - by vorou
    Is it possible to make Windows 8.1 automatically select the most relevant search result, so that I could just press Enter to execute it? Right now, I have to press down-arrow each time to select it, and then press Enter. I occasionally forget to press the down-arrow, and Windows opens that very useful Search Results window for me. It makes me sad since I'm absolutelly happy with the top search result nearly all the time. P.S.: I'm taking about the Search in Start menu (the menu which opens when I press winkey)

  • Show Diff of two trees in Eclipse

    - by ericbodden
    In Eclipse, I am using a TreeViewer to show a custom tree, whose contents are drawn from an ITreeContentProvider. Now I am trying to create a second view that allows me to automatically show a two-way comparisons of two such trees. I found various views for textual comparison within Eclipse, but I could not find an easy way to show the structural differences between two arbitrary trees. Any thoughts?

  • Finding the most frequent subtrees in a collection of (parse) trees

    - by peter.murray.rust
    I have a collection of trees whose nodes are labelled (but not uniquely). Specifically the trees are from a collection of parsed sentences (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treebank). I wish to extract the most common subtrees from the collection - performance is not (yet) an issue. I'd be grateful for algorithms (ideally Java) or pointers to tools which do this for treebanks. Note that order of child nodes is important. EDIT @mjv. We are working in a limited domain (chemistry) which has a stylised language so the varirty of the trees is not huge - probably similar to children's readers. Simple tree for "the cat sat on the mat". <sentence> <nounPhrase> <article/> <noun/> </nounPhrase> <verbPhrase> <verb/> <prepositionPhrase> <preposition/> <nounPhrase> <article/> <noun/> </nounPhrase> </prepositionPhrase> </verbPhrase> </sentence> Here the sentence contains two identical part-of-speech subtrees (the actual tokens "cat". "mat" are not important in matching). So the algorithm would need to detect this. Note that not all nounPhrases are identical - "the big black cat" could be: <nounPhrase> <article/> <adjective/> <adjective/> <noun/> </nounPhrase> The length of sentences will be longer - between 15 to 30 nodes. I would expect to get useful results from 1000 trees. If this does not take more than a day or so that's acceptable. Obviously the shorter the tree the more frequent, so nounPhrase will be very common. EDIT If this is to be solved by flattening the tree then I think it would be related to Longest Common Substring, not Longest Common Sequence. But note that I don't necessarily just want the longest - I want a list of all those long enough to be "interesting" (criterion yet to be decided).

  • Can I use a binary literal in C or C++?

    - by hamza
    I need to work with a binary number. I tried writing: const x = 00010000 ; But it didn't work. I know that I can use an hexadecimal number that has the same value as 00010000 but I want to know if there is a type in C++ for binary numbers & if there isn't, is there another solution for my problem?

  • B-trees, databases, sequential inputs, and speed.

    - by IanC
    I know from experience that b-trees have awful performance when data is added to them sequentially (regardless of the direction). However, when data is added randomly, best performance is obtained. This is easy to demonstrate with the likes of an RB-Tree. Sequential writes cause a maximum number of tree balances to be performed. I know very few databases use binary trees, but rather used n-order balanced trees. I logically assume they suffer a similar fate to binary trees when it comes to sequential inputs. This sparked my curiosity. If this is so, then one could deduce that writing sequential IDs (such as in IDENTITY(1,1)) would cause multiple re-balances of the tree to occur. I have seen many posts argue against GUIDs as "these will cause random writes". I never use GUIDs, but it struck me that this "bad" point was in fact a good point. So I decided to test it. Here is my code: SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[T1]( [ID] [int] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [T1_1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ([ID] ASC) ) GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[T2]( [ID] [uniqueidentifier] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [T2_1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ([ID] ASC) ) GO declare @i int, @t1 datetime, @t2 datetime, @t3 datetime, @c char(300) set @t1 = GETDATE() set @i = 1 while @i < 2000 begin insert into T2 values (NEWID(), @c) set @i = @i + 1 end set @t2 = GETDATE() WAITFOR delay '0:0:10' set @t3 = GETDATE() set @i = 1 while @i < 2000 begin insert into T1 values (@i, @c) set @i = @i + 1 end select DATEDIFF(ms, @t1, @t2) AS [Int], DATEDIFF(ms, @t3, getdate()) AS [GUID] drop table T1 drop table T2 Note that I am not subtracting any time for the creation of the GUID nor for the considerably extra size of the row. The results on my machine were as follows: Int: 17,340 ms GUID: 6,746 ms This means that in this test, random inserts of 16 bytes was almost 3 times faster than sequential inserts of 4 bytes. Would anyone like to comment on this? Ps. I get that this isn't a question. It's an invite to discussion, and that is relevant to learning optimum programming.

  • How to create managed properties at site collection level in SharePoint2013

    - by ybbest
    In SharePoint2013, you can create managed properties at site collection. Today, I’d like to show you how to do so through PowerShell. 1. Define your managed properties and crawled properties and managed property Type in an external csv file. PowerShell script will read this file and create the managed and the mapping. 2. As you can see I also defined variant Type, this is because you need the variant type to create the crawled property. In order to have the crawled properties, you need to do a full crawl and also make sure you have data populated for your custom column. However, if you do not want to a full crawl to create those crawled properties, you can create them yourself by using the PowerShell; however you need to make sure the crawled properties you created have the same name if created by a full crawl. Managed properties type: Text = 1 Integer = 2 Decimal = 3 DateTime = 4 YesNo = 5 Binary = 6 Variant Type: Text = 31 Integer = 20 Decimal = 5 DateTime = 64 YesNo = 11 3. You can use the following script to create your managed properties at site collection level, the differences for creating managed property at site collection level is to pass in the site collection id. param( [string] $siteUrl="http://SP2013/", [string] $searchAppName = "Search Service Application", $ManagedPropertiesList=(IMPORT-CSV ".\ManagedProperties.csv") ) Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue $searchapp = $null function AppendLog { param ([string] $msg, [string] $msgColor) $currentDateTime = Get-Date $msg = $msg + " --- " + $currentDateTime if (!($logOnly -eq $True)) { # write to console Write-Host -f $msgColor $msg } # write to log file Add-Content $logFilePath $msg } $scriptPath = Split-Path $myInvocation.MyCommand.Path $logFilePath = $scriptPath + "\CreateManagedProperties_Log.txt" function CreateRefiner {param ([string] $crawledName, [string] $managedPropertyName, [Int32] $variantType, [Int32] $managedPropertyType,[System.GUID] $siteID) $cat = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataCategory –Identity SharePoint -SearchApplication $searchapp $crawledproperty = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataCrawledProperty -Name $crawledName -SearchApplication $searchapp -SiteCollection $siteID if($crawledproperty -eq $null) { Write-Host AppendLog "Creating Crawled Property for $managedPropertyName" Yellow $crawledproperty = New-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataCrawledProperty -SearchApplication $searchapp -VariantType $variantType -SiteCollection $siteID -Category $cat -PropSet "00130329-0000-0130-c000-000000131346" -Name $crawledName -IsNameEnum $false } $managedproperty = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataManagedProperty -Identity $managedPropertyName -SearchApplication $searchapp -SiteCollection $siteID -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue if($managedproperty -eq $null) { Write-Host AppendLog "Creating Managed Property for $managedPropertyName" Yellow $managedproperty = New-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataManagedProperty -Name $managedPropertyName -Type $managedPropertyType -SiteCollection $siteID -SearchApplication $searchapp -Queryable:$true -Retrievable:$true -FullTextQueriable:$true -RemoveDuplicates:$false -RespectPriority:$true -IncludeInMd5:$true } $mappedProperty = $crawledproperty.GetMappedManagedProperties() | ?{$_.Name -eq $managedProperty.Name } if($mappedProperty -eq $null) { Write-Host AppendLog "Creating Crawled -> Managed Property mapping for $managedPropertyName" Yellow New-SPEnterpriseSearchMetadataMapping -CrawledProperty $crawledproperty -ManagedProperty $managedproperty -SearchApplication $searchapp -SiteCollection $siteID } $mappedProperty = $crawledproperty.GetMappedManagedProperties() | ?{$_.Name -eq $managedProperty.Name } #Get-FASTSearchMetadataCrawledPropertyMapping -ManagedProperty $managedproperty } $searchapp = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication $searchAppName $site= Get-SPSite $siteUrl $siteId=$site.id Write-Host "Start creating Managed properties" $i = 1 FOREACH ($property in $ManagedPropertiesList) { $propertyName=$property.managedPropertyName $crawledName=$property.crawledName $managedPropertyType=$property.managedPropertyType $variantType=$property.variantType Write-Host $managedPropertyType Write-Host "Processing managed property $propertyName $($i)..." $i++ CreateRefiner $crawledName $propertyName $variantType $managedPropertyType $siteId Write-Host "Managed property created " $propertyName } Key Concepts Crawled Properties: Crawled properties are discovered by the search index service component when crawling content.   • LDAP (slapd) creating users with access to specific trees

    - by Josh
    I am setting up a CentOS server with Virtualmin and Postfix, and I am trying to use LDAP to store unix users, groups, Postfix aliases and virtual domains. I am following the instructions from Webmin's site. I have created an LDAP domain and configured Postfix to fetch Aliases and Virtual Domains from LDAP, but in order to do so I had to configure postfix to authenticate with the master LDAP account, cn=Manager,dc=mydomain,dc=com. This seems like a terrible idea because that account has access to the Users and Groups, which postfix does not need access to. How can I create a new LDAP account for Postfix which only has access to the LDAP trees Postfix needs?

  • my Search method is coming up with all nulls

    - by Epic.Distortion
    Let me give a quick explanation. I took a 5 week course through a company on Java in July. They covered basic stuff, like console app, crud operations, mysql, and n-tier architecture. Since the course ended I didn't use it much because I went back to work, and other medical reasons surfaced....blah blah. I was told by the company to make a simple program to reflect what I learned. Turns out I retained very little. I decided to make a video game starage program. It would be used to stare your video games so you wouldn't have to search your bookcase(or how ever you store your games.) It is a basic console app using the crud operations with MYSQL. I can't get my search function to actually work. I have 2 layers a Presentation layer and a Logic layer. The search method allows them to search for a game by the title. when i bring run the program and use Search it only displays the title and the rest is null. here is my Presentation layer: private static Games SearchForGame() { Logic aref = new Logic(); Games g = new Games(); Scanner scanline = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Please enter the name of the game you wish to find:"); g.setTitle(scanline.nextLine()); aref.SearchGame(); System.out.println(); System.out.println("Game Id: " + g.getGameId()); System.out.println("Title: " + g.getTitle()); System.out.println("Rating: " + g.getRating()); System.out.println("Platform: "+ g.getPlatform()); System.out.println("Developer: "+ g.getDeveloper()); return g; } and here is my logic layer public Games SearchGame() { Games g = new Games(); try { Class.forName(driver).newInstance(); Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url+dbName,userName,password); java.sql.PreparedStatement statement = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT GameId,Title,Rating,Platform,Developer FROM games WHERE Title=?"); statement.setString(1, g.getTitle()); ResultSet rs = statement.executeQuery(); while(rs.next()){ g.setGameId(rs.getInt("GameId")); g.setTitle(rs.getString("Title")); g.setRating(rs.getString("Rating")); g.setPlatform(rs.getString("Platform")); g.setDeveloper(rs.getString("Developer")); statement.executeUpdate(); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return g; } here is also my last results Please enter the name of the game you wish to find: Skyrim Game Id: 0 Title: Skyrim Rating: null Platform: null Developer: null any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance EDIT: here is my code for my games class public class Games { public int GameId; public String Title; public String Rating; public String Platform; public String Developer; public int getGameId() { return GameId; } public int setGameId(int gameId) { return GameId = gameId; } public String getTitle() { return Title; } public String setTitle(String title) { return Title = title; } public String getRating() { return Rating; } public void setRating(String rating) { Rating = rating; } public String getPlatform() { return Platform; } public void setPlatform(String platform) { Platform = platform; } public String getDeveloper() { return Developer; } public void setDeveloper(String developer) { Developer = developer; } }

  • 'Binary XML' for game data?

    - by bluescrn
    I'm working on a level editing tool that saves its data as XML. This is ideal during development, as it's painless to make small changes to the data format, and it works nicely with tree-like data. The downside, though, is that the XML files are rather bloated, mostly due to duplication of tag and attribute names. Also due to numeric data taking significantly more space than using native datatypes. A small level could easily end up as 1Mb+. I want to get these sizes down significantly, especially if the system is to be used for a game on the iPhone or other devices with relatively limited memory. The optimal solution, for memory and performance, would be to convert the XML to a binary level format. But I don't want to do this. I want to keep the format fairly flexible. XML makes it very easy to add new attributes to objects, and give them a default value if an old version of the data is loaded. So I want to keep with the hierarchy of nodes, with attributes as name-value pairs. But I need to store this in a more compact format - to remove the massive duplication of tag/attribute names. Maybe also to give attributes native types, so, for example floating-point data is stored as 4 bytes per float, not as a text string. Google/Wikipedia reveal that 'binary XML' is hardly a new problem - it's been solved a number of times already. Has anyone here got experience with any of the existing systems/standards? - are any ideal for games use - with a free, lightweight and cross-platform parser/loader library (C/C++) available? Or should I reinvent this wheel myself? Or am I better off forgetting the ideal, and just compressing my raw .xml data (it should pack well with zip-like compression), and just taking the memory/performance hit on-load?

  • Two "search" entries in resolv.conf

    - by Carsten
    I am using 12.04 and have a problem with my resolv.conf There are 2 search lines there. But I can only explain one. I would like to get the other one removed. carsten@myubuntubox:~$ cat /etc/resolv.conf # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8) # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN nameserver 127.0.0.1 search aaaa.bbb.example.net search something nameserver 1.2.3.4 nameserver 1.2.3.5 I can't explain the search aaaa.bbb.example.net Where does it come from? The last 3 lines (like I want come from /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/tail This is good. But where is the other search line coming from? In /etc/dhcp/dhclient I removed the requests for domain-name-servers, domain-search, but the lines are still in there. Should I remove the dhcp6.domain-search as well?

  • String Occurance Counting Algorithm

    - by Hellnar
    Hello, I am curious what is the most efficient algorithm (or commonly used) to count the number of occurances of a string in a chunck of text. From what I read, Boyer–Moore string search algorithm is the standard for string search but I am not sure if counting occurance in an efficient way would be same as searching a string. In python this is what I want: text_chunck = "one two three four one five six one" occurance_count(text_chunck, "one") # gives 3. Regards EDIT: It seems like python str.count serves me such method however I am not able to find what algorithm it uses.

  • Shell not finding binary when attempting to execute it (it's _definitely_ there)

    - by eegg
    I have a specific set of binaries installed at: ~/.GutenMark/binary/<binaries...> These were previously working correctly, but for seemingly no reason when I attempt to execute them the shell claims not to find them: james@anubis:~/.GutenMark/binary$ ls -al ... -rwxr-xr-x 1 james james 2979036 2009-05-10 13:34 GUItenMark ... -rwxrwxrwx 1 james james 76952 2009-05-10 13:34 GutenMark ... -rwxr-xr-x 1 james james 10156 2009-05-10 13:34 GutenSplit ... james@anubis:~/.GutenMark/binary$ ./GutenMark bash: ./GutenMark: No such file or directory james@anubis:~/.GutenMark/binary$ I've tried to isolate the cause of this, with no success. The same happens with zsh, bash, and sh (all giving their appropriate "file not found" error -- this is definitely not a strange output from the binary itself). The same happens either as user james or as root. Nor is it directory specific; if I move the whole directory installation, or just a single binary, to anywhere else, the same happens when attempting to execute it. The same even happens when I put the directory in $PATH and just execute "GutenMark". It also happens when I execute it from a script (I've tried Python's commands module -- though this appears to just call sh). The problem appears to be specific to the binaries themselves, yet they appear to never actually get executed. Any ideas?

    - by akjain
    WinRAR is good at searching for a string in text files(java, xml, txt etc.) within an archive and it supports multiple archive formats. (rar, 7zip, winzip etc) Is there some way to extend this feature (by means of plug-ins etc) to search within Pdf & office files (doc, ppt), Or any other similar unzip tool which has this feature? (Extracting the entire archive & searching using Windows search is always one option)
