  • ipod app replacement-in-a-tab?

    - by Frank C
With the new media-library capabilities in the 3.0 SDK, I'd like to have a tab in my application to control the music that's playing. Not just pause and play (i'm aware that pressing the home button twice brings up controls for this), but also the ability to browse and queue albums/artists/songs/playlists. Basically a copy of the ipod app functionality. Any chance someone has already done this and made it freely available?

  • Iphone application crashes when poping to rootController of UITabBar tab

    - by sniurkst
Hello, I'm having this bug I can't figure out and it is making my head hurt. So, basically, in my iphone application I have UITabBar with some tabs each having UINavigationControllers inside. Something like this: someViewController *someController = [[someViewController alloc] myInit]; UINavigationController *someNav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:someController]; tab = [[UITabBarController alloc] init]; tab.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:otherNav, otherNav, evilNav, nil]; [window addSubview:tab.view]; So to reproduce my "precious" bug I go like this: click evilNav tab -> push tableListView (category list) -> push otherTableListView (category items list) -> push someOtherView (single item) -> popToRoot || popToController withindex:0 || click on evilNav tab again || pop to otherTableListView -> pop to tableListView -> crash (with no notable error) So if I go so far to someOtherView I can't go back to first tableListView (rootViewController) without application crashing. Meanwhile I can go to other tabs and then even click evilNav (when it is in otherTableListView or someOtherView state) without crashing. What could be causing this problem? (If you need I will post more code)

  • Multiple touch problem using UITouch/UIView in iphone

    - by John Qualis
    Hi, I am trying to implement a 2-finger "pinch" and "expand" (or enlarge) on a UIView using iPhone 3G and SDK 3.1.2. I haven't done programmed in UITouch/UIEvent before, so I appreciate any guidance to the problem I am facing. When I touch the screen with 2 fingers I see that sometimes "touchesBegan" gives me only 1 event. I need UITouch event count == 2 to measure the distance between 2 fingers. Hence I have to lift up my fingers and repeat this process again till I get both fingers to be detected. Is there a way around? Can I improve it? The actual resize works correctly once both fingers are detected but this issue seen at the start needs to be resolved. I know SDK 3.2 detects gestures such as pinch but I was wondering how it can be done in 3.1.2? The code is given below. The "OnFingerDown" function gets called randomly even when I put 2 fingers down whereas I want "onTwoFingersDown" to be called each time. Moreover the I get only 1 touch event each time I put my fingers down. I mean if "OnFingerDown" was called twice I could somehow get it to work. Thanks in advance. Appreciate any help. John - (void) touchesBegan: (NSSet*) touches withEvent: (UIEvent*) event { UITouch* touch, *touch1; CGPoint location, location1; if([[event allTouches] count] == 1) { touch=[UI[[event allTouches] allObjects] objectAtIndex:0]; location=[touch locationInView:self]; OnFingerDown(location); } else if([[event allTouches] count] == 2) { touch=[[[event allTouches] allObjects] objectAtIndex:0]; location=[touch locationInView:self]; touch1=[[[event allTouches] allObjects] objectAtIndex:1]; location1=[touch1 locationInView:self]; OnTwoFingersDown(location, location1); } }

  • Custom view in iPhone SDK gets placed incorrectly in realation to statusbar

    - by markqvist
(ragh, i'm apparently not allowed to post images, so i have included links to the images in this post instead of embedding them) Im writing an iPhone application based on the navigation controller template, but I am not loading the actual navigation controller as the first view in the window. I create a new view controller from a xib, and then add that as a subview, and then only push the navigation view as a modal when i need it. Here's my application: didFinishLaunching ... method in the application deleate RootViewController *rootViewController = (RootViewController *)[navigationController topViewController]; rootViewController.managedObjectContext = self.managedObjectContext; mainViewController = [[MainViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MainViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; mainViewController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [window addSubview:[mainViewController view]]; [[mainViewController view] setNeedsLayout]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; It works but the view is not properly aligned with the statusbar: http://img.exdev.dk/1.png When i click "my ambiances" and push the navigation controller view, and then dismiss it again, the layout is fine: same link as above, just replace the 1 with a 2. Sorry for the hassle, apparently I can also only post one link.... Here's the code I use for presenting/dismissing the navigationcontroller: -(void)pushMyAmbiences { [mainViewController presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:TRUE]; } -(void)returnToMainView { [mainViewController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:TRUE]; } Is there anything I'm missing here? Layout-wise? Something that needs to be set in the xib? In a vain attempt I tried calling setNeedsLayout on the view, no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Need help with animation on iPhone

    - by Arun Ravindran
I'm working on an animated clock application for the iPhone, and I have to pivot all the 3 nodes in the view, which I have obtained in the following code: [CATransaction begin]; [CATransaction setValue:(id)kCFBooleanTrue forKey:kCATransactionDisableActions]; clockarm.layer.anchorPoint = CGPointMake(0.0, 0.0); [CATransaction commit]; [CATransaction begin]; [CATransaction setValue:(id)kCFBooleanFalse forKey:kCATransactionDisableActions]; [CATransaction setValue:[NSNumber numberWithFloat:50.0] forKey:kCATransactionAnimationDuration]; CABasicAnimation *animation; animation = [CABasicAnimation animationWithKeyPath:@"transform.rotation.z"]; animation.fromValue = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:-60.0]; animation.toValue = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:2 * M_PI]; animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName: kCAMediaTimingFunctionLinear]; animation.delegate = self; [clockarm.layer addAnimation:animation forKey:@"rotationAnimation"]; animation.timingFunction = [CAMediaTimingFunction functionWithName:kCAMediaTimingFunctionEaseInEaseOut]; [CATransaction commit]; The problem it's just rotating once, ie. only 360 degree and then stopping. I want to raotate the needles indefinitely. How would I do that?

  • Right to Left UI in iPhone (Hebrew)

    - by Reflog
Hello, I'm struggling in creating a RTL UI in iPhone application. The framework doesn't seem to have any support for RTL languages. The only thing is the alignment inside labels, which is nice, but it conflicts with other controls behaviour. The question is: Is there a working code for a RTL TableView? Something that would handle the disclosure buttons to be on the left, section titles to be right aligned, index view to be left aligned? As far as I understand I cannot move the index view of the tableview, i have to overlay some custom control... Any suggestions/pointers/examples? p.s. this is not a duplication of this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1677988/right-to-left-alignment-for-uitableview since what I am looking for is a deeper customization, not just a new type of CellView. (Update: Mar 10) For now - I've removed support for indexView from the tableView at all, implemented the cells as custom views by myself (with disclosure buttons on the left), and customized the header/footer of the table as well. the only thing that is left is the Index View. Thanks in advance!

  • Preset value of HTML Forms - iPhone SDK

    - by laura
Hi. I'm trying to preset the value of a dropdown menu and the value of a text box in an HTML form. As soon as the user taps the button in my iPhone app, it enters the webview and I was hoping to preset one of the dropdown menus and text field. How do I go about this? I want to set the dropdown to value "4" and the text field to "Giro Apps" Here's the relevant HTML form code: <select id="advSrcId" class="list" onchange="showOther($('advSrcId').options[$('advSrcId').selectedIndex].value)" name="advSrcId"> <option selected="" value="">Select</option> <option value="1">Google</option> <option value="2">Facebook</option> <option value="3">Friend Referral</option> <option value="4">Other</option> </select> <div id="otherAdvsrc" style=""> <p> Please give details here: <br/> <input class="text" type="text" value="" name="advsrc"/> <br/> </p> </div> TIA!

  • iphone - using NSInvocation: constant value

    - by Mike
I am dealing with an old iPhone OS 2.x project and I want to keep compatibility, while designing for 3.x. I am using NSInvocation, is a code like this NSInvocation* invoc = [NSInvocation invocationWithMethodSignature: [cell methodSignatureForSelector: @selector(initWithStyle:reuseIdentifier:)]]; [invoc setTarget:cell]; [invoc setSelector:@selector(initWithStyle:reuseIdentifier:)]; int arg2 = UITableViewCellStyleDefault; //???? [invoc setArgument:&arg2 atIndex:2]; [invoc setArgument:&identificadorNormal atIndex:3]; [invoc invoke]; to call 3.0 APIs on 2.0. I am having a problem on the line I marked with question marks. The problem there is that I am trying to assing to arg2, a constant that has not been defined in OS 2.0. As everything with NSInvocation is to do stuff indirectly to avoid compiler errors, how do I set this constant to a variable in an indirect way? Some sort of performSelector "assign value to variable"... is that possible? thanks for any help.

  • Template compiling errors on iPhone SDK 3.2

    - by Didier Malenfant
I'm porting over some templated code from Windows and I'm hitting some compiler differences on the iPhone 3.2 SDK. Original code inside a class template's member function is: return BinarySearch<uint32, CSimpleKey<T> >(key); where BinarySearch is a method inherited from another template. This produces the following error: csimplekeytable.h:131: error: no matching function for call to 'BinarySearch(NEngine::uint32&)' The visual studio compiler seems to walk up the template hierarchy fine but gcc needs me to fully qualify where the function comes from (I have verified this by fixing the same issues with template member variables that way). So I now need to change this into: return CSimpleTable<CSimpleKey<T> >::BinarySearch<uint32, CSimpleKey<T> >(key); Which now produces the following error: csimplekeytable.h:132: error: expected primary-expression before ',' token csimplekeytable.h:132: error: expected primary-expression before '>' token After some head scratching, I believe what's going on here is that it's trying to resolve the '<' before BinarySearch as a 'Less Than' operator for some reason. So two questions: - Am I on the right path with my interpretation of the error? - How do I fix it? -D

  • iPhone UISlider not visible

    - by John Qualis
    I want to add a UISlider to my app programmatically without using the IB. I am adding a UISlider to my UIViewController using the code below. However I don't see the slider when the view comes up. What am I missing? I am using iPhone SDK 3.1.2. Appreciate any help. @synthesize slider; .... - (void)viewDidLoad { ... ... slider = [[UISlider alloc] initWithFrame: CGRectMake(0, 480 - 80, 300, 20)]; slider.minimumValue = 0.0; slider.maximumValue = 100.0; slider.tag = 0; slider.value = 50; slider.continuous = YES; slider.enabled = YES; [slider addTarget:selfaction:@selector(handleSlider:)forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; self.view addSubview:slider]; In the .h file ... UISlider *slider; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) UISlider *slider; - (void) handleSlider:(id)sender;

  • App crashes every second time a tableview row is selected in navigation controller setup

    - by Thaurin
Disclaimer first: I'm pretty new to Objective-C and the retain model. I've been developing in a garbage collected .NET environment for the last five years, so I've been spoiled. I'm still learning. I'm having my iPhone app crash with EXC_BAD_ACCESS. It happens in a navigtation controller/tableview setup. When I select a row the first time, no problems. It switches in the child controller without problems. I go back and select the same row again. Program then proceeds to crash. Every other row works fine, but every second time a row is accessed, it's a crash. I've pinpointed the location where this happens. The child controller (which is a class that I reuse for every row of the same type) that's being switched into has an array of NSString's representing the rows that will be displayed. I set it before pushing the child viewcontroller. It's there where this apparently happens. I'm having a hard time debugging this problem, still wrestling with xcode and all. I fear there may be some vital information missing here, but maybe there is something you recognize here.

  • Pull To Refresh on iphone not working as expected

    - by Kleemann
I have been using this: http://blog.leahculver.com/2010/12/iphone-pull-to-refresh.html to make the pull to refresh function in my app. But I cant see the text "Pull down to refresh...", "Release to refresh..." and "Loading...". All I've done is copy the files into my project, link against QuartzCore framework, and changed the .h file of my view controller so it is a subclass of PullRefreshTableViewController. Then I added the refresh method. Is seems that the initWithStyle method in PullRefreshTableViewController never is executed. But i should be, in my tableViewcellForRowAtIndexPath. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"CellIdentifier"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } cell.textLabel.text = @"Text"; return cell; } The initWithStyle method from the PullRefreshTableViewController.m: - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle)style { self = [super initWithStyle:style]; if (self != nil) { textPull = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Pull down to refresh..."]; textRelease = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Release to refresh..."]; textLoading = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Loading..."]; NSLog(@"in"); } NSLog(@"out"); return self; } The logs are never printed in the console I really cant see where the problem is ?

  • How to track vehicles with GPS and have that data available for an app

    - by Blaz Art
What type of hardware and software architecture would you recommend for the task of somehow tracking a vehicle for the convenience of the app user to know where the vehicle is? I realize there are many ways to do it, but all them I think have to include this (correct me if im wrong) a gps tracking device inside the vehicle a way transmitting the gps location to a server from within the vehicle a server which tells the apps the locations of the vehicle the app

  • What programming language(s) could I develop this app with for an iPhone

    - by Keon Davies
The app I'm thinking of making would be little similar to fruit ninja. The app/ game would involve different types of animals flying straight at and you have to choose the right item to catch the animal before he gets to you. For example to capture a fish you would have to select the net and then click on the fish to capture it. Also I would like to have a leader board too. Which programming language(s) could I use to develop what I just described?

  • Offline web app options

    - by L. De Leo
For a game web app that runs Python on the server side and Javascript / HTML on the client side I'd like to build an offline version that runs in Chrome and on the mobile devices. What is the most convenient way currently available to target Chrome, Win 8 Desktop (with a Win packaged app) and the mobile devices reusing most of the code? Options could be PhoneGap for the mobile devices and PyJs for the offline browser versions or maybe translate Python to Dart manually (because of the closer semantics of the two languages) and compile to Javascript.

  • An offscreen MKMapView behaves differently in 3.2, 4.0

    - by Duane Fields
In 3.1 I've been using an "offscreen" MKMapView to create map images that I can rotate, crop and so forth before presenting them the user. In 3.2 and 4.0 this technique no longer works quite right. Here's some code that illustrates the problem, followed by my theory. // create map view _mapView = [[MKMapView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, MAP_FRAME_SIZE, MAP_FRAME_SIZE)]; _mapView.zoomEnabled = NO; _mapView.scrollEnabled = NO; _mapView.delegate = self; _mapView.mapType = MKMapTypeSatellite; // zoom in to something enough to fill the screen MKCoordinateRegion region; CLLocationCoordinate2D center = {30.267222, -97.763889}; region.center = center; MKCoordinateSpan span = {0.1, 0.1 }; region.span = span; _mapView.region = region; // set scrollview content size to full the imageView _scrollView.contentSize = _imageView.frame.size; // force it to load #ifndef __IPHONE_3_2 // in 3.1 we can render to an offscreen context to force a load UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(_mapView.frame.size); [_mapView.layer renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); #else // in 3.2 and above, the renderInContext trick doesn't work... // this at least causes the map to render, but it's clipped to what appears to be // the viewPort size, plus some padding [self.view addSubview:_mapView]; #endif when the map is done loading, I snap picture of it and stuff it in my scrollview - (void)mapViewDidFinishLoadingMap:(MKMapView *)mapView { NSLog(@"[MapBuilder] mapViewDidFinishLoadingMap"); // render the map to a UIImage UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(mapView.bounds.size); // the first sub layer is just the map, the second is the google layer, this sublayer structure might change of course [[[mapView.layer sublayers] objectAtIndex:0] renderInContext:UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext()]; // we are done with the mapView at this point, we need its ram! _mapView.delegate = nil; [_mapView release]; [_mapView removeFromSuperview]; _mapView = nil; UIImage* mapImage = [UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext() retain]; UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); _imageView.image = mapImage; [mapImage release], mapImage = nil; } The first problem is that in 3.1 rendering to a context would trigger the map to begin loading. This no longer works in 3.2, 4.0. The only thing I have found would trigger the load is to temporarily add the map to the view (i.e. make it visible). The problem being that the map only renders to the visible area of the screen, plus a little padding. The frame/bounds are fine, but it appears to be "helpfully" optimizes the loading to limit the tiles to those visible on the screen or close to it. Any ideas how to force the map to load at full size? Anyone else have this issue?

  • shouldStartLoadWithRequest is not called when using AJAX/XMLHttpRequest

    - by el_migu_el
    Hi, I am trying to send method invocations from JavaScript to Objective-C and vice versa. Everything works fine for window.location triggered urls, which are catched by shouldStartLoadWithRequest. Now if I try to use an AJAX call instead, shouldStartLoadWithRequest is not called. Is there a way to do this? Mainly I do not want to be restricted to the max URL size on data that can be passed from JavaScript to Objective-C. My UIWebViewDelegate implements: - (BOOL)webView:(UIWebView *)webView shouldStartLoadWithRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request navigationType:(UIWebViewNavigationType)navigationType { NSString *url = [[request URL] absoluteString]; NSRange urlrange = [url rangeOfString:@"myScheme://"]; if(urlrange.length > 0){ NSLog(@"this is an objective-c call, do not load link: %@", [url substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(urlrange.location, [url length])] ); return NO; } else { NSLog(@"not an objective-c call, load link: ", url ); return YES; } } My JavaScript calls: // works window.location.href = "myScheme://readyHref"; // fails var xmlHttpReq = false; if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xmlHttpReq = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlHttpReq = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlHttpReq.open('GET', "myScheme://readyAJAX", false); xmlHttpReq.send();

  • UIScrollView frame size issue in Landscape Mode

    - by viper15
I'm trying to make UIScrollView auto-resize and appear correctly in Landscape mode. Portrait mode works fine. Here's my code: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; //=== load all the custom view NSMutableArray *controllers = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; int page = 0; [controllers addObject:[self loadScrollView:[[Page1ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"Page1ViewController" bundle:nil] withPage:page++]]; [controllers addObject:[self loadScrollView:[[Page2ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"Page2ViewController" bundle:nil] withPage:page++]]; [controllers addObject:[self loadScrollView:[[Page3ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"Page3ViewController" bundle:nil] withPage:page++]]; self.viewControllers = controllers; [controllers release]; //=== automaticaly define number of pages _numberOfPages = [self.viewControllers count]; // a page is the width of the scroll view scrollView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight; scrollView.pagingEnabled = YES; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * _numberOfPages, scrollView.frame.size.height); scrollView.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = NO; scrollView.scrollsToTop = NO; scrollView.delegate = self; // First, set the number of pages pageControl.numberOfPages = _numberOfPages; pageControl.currentPage = 0; } Then, I went into each view controller nib file and set the background to different color to test if it's working. Unfortunately, when in Landscape mode, the width and height remains the same as in Portrait Mode. I'm not sure how to fix this problem. Hope anyone can help me. Many thanks in advance.

  • Should Development / Testing / QA / Staging environments be similar?

    - by Walter White
Hi all, After much time and effort, we're finally using maven to manage our application lifecycle for development. We still unfortunately use ANT to build an EAR before deploying to Test / QA / Staging. My question is, while we made that leap forward, developers are still free to do as they please for testing their code. One issue that we have is half our team is using Tomcat to test on and the other half is using Jetty. I prefer Jetty slightly over Tomcat, but regardless we using WAS for all the other environments. My question is, should we develop on the same application server we're deploying to? We've had numerous bugs come up from these differences in environments. Tomcat, Jetty, and WAS are different under the hood. My opinion is that we all should develop on what we're deploying to production with so we don't have the problem of well, it worked fine on my machine. While I prefer Jetty, I just assume we all work on the same environment even if it means deploying to WAS which is slow and cumbersome. What are your team dynamics like? Our lead developers stepped down from the team and development has been a free for all since then. Walter

  • accessing layer from class

    - by Mike
I am creating a rounded corner UIImageView, but this image is created inside a class, using among other instructions, these following: myImageView.layer.cornerRadius = 20.0; myImageView.layer.masksToBounds = YES; myImageView.layer.borderColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor].CGColor; myImageView.layer.borderWidth = 1.0; but Xcode is yelling at me telling me unknown 'cornerRadius' component of a property unknown 'masksToBounds' component of a property unknown 'borderColor' component of a property unknown 'borderWidth' component of a property I know this code is valid, because I have created images like that before, but never inside a class. Why is this happening? how to solve that? thanks.

  • Distributed Development Tools -- (Version control and Project Management)

    - by Macy Abbey
Hello, I've recently become responsible for choosing which source control and project management software to use for a company that employs me. Currently it uses Jira (project management) and Subversion (version control). I know there are many other options out there -- the ones I know about are all in this article http://mashable.com/2010/07/14/distributed-developer-teams/ . I'm leaning towards recommending they just stay with what they have as it seems workable and any change would have to be worth the cost of switching to say github/basecamp or some other solution. Some details on the team: It's a distributed development shop. Meetings of the whole team in one room are rare. It's currently a very small development team (three developers). The project management software is used by developers and a product manager or two. What are you experiences with version control and project management web applications? Are there any you would recommend and you think are worth the switching cost of time to learn new services / implementing the change? Edit: After educating myself further on the options it appears DVCS offer powerful benefits that may be worth investing in now as opposed to later in the company's lifetime when the switching cost is higher: I'm a Subversion geek, why I should consider or not consider Mercurial or Git or any other DVCS?
