  • Java MVC project - either I can't update the drawing, or I can't see it

    - by user1881164
I've got a project based around the Model-View-Controller paradigm, and I've been having a lot of trouble with getting it to work properly. The program has 4 panels, which are supposed to allow me to modify an oval drawn on the screen in various ways. These seem to work fine, and after considerable trouble I was able to get them to display in the JFrame which holds the whole shebang. I've managed to get them to display by breaking away from the provided instructions, but when I do that, I can't seem to get the oval to update. However, if I follow the directions to the letter, I only ever see an empty frame. The project had pretty specific directions, which I followed up to a point, but some of the documentation was unclear. I think what I'm missing must be something simple, since nothing is jumping out at me as not making sense. I have to admit though that my Java experience is limited and my experience with GUI design/paradigms is even more so. Anyway, I've been searching the web and this site extensively trying to figure out what's wrong, but this is a somewhat specific example and honestly I just don't know enough about this to generalize any of the answers I've found online and figure out what's missing. I've been poring over this code for far too long now so I'm really hoping someone can help me out. public class Model { private Controller controller; private View view; private MvcFrame mvcFrame; private int radius = 44; private Color color = Color.BLUE; private boolean solid = true; //bunch of mutators and accessors for the above variables public Model() { controller = new Controller(this); view = new View(this); mvcFrame = new MvcFrame(this); } } Here's the model class. This seems to be fairly simple. I think my understanding of what's going on here is solid, and nothing seems to be wrong. Included mostly for context. public class Controller extends JPanel{ private Model model; public Controller(Model model) { this.model = model; setBorder(BorderFactory.createLineBorder(Color.GREEN)); setLayout(new GridLayout(4,1)); add(new RadiusPanel(model)); add(new ColorPanel(model)); add(new SolidPanel(model)); add(new TitlePanel(model)); } } This is the Controller class. As far as I can tell, the setBorder, setLayout, and series of adds do nothing here. I had them commented out, but this is the way that the instructions told me to do things, so either there's a mistake there or something about my setup is wrong. However, when I did it this way, I would get an empty window (JFrame) but none of the panels would show up in it. What I did to fix this is put those add functions in the mvcFrame class: public class MvcFrame extends JFrame { private Model model; public MvcFrame(Model model){ this.model = model; //setLayout(new GridLayout(4,1)); //add(new RadiusPanel(model)); //add(new ColorPanel(model)); //add(new SolidPanel(model)); //add(new TitlePanel(model)); //add(new View(model)); setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setLocationRelativeTo(null); setSize(800,600); setVisible(true); } } So here's where things kind of started getting weird. The first block of commented out code is the same as what's in the Controller class. The reason I have it commented out is because that was just a lucky guess - it's not supposed to be like that according to the instructions. However, this did work for getting the panels to show up - but at that point I was still tearing my hair out trying to get the oval to display. The other commented line ( add(new View(model)); ) was a different attempt at making things work. In this case, I put those add functions in the View class (see commented out code below). This actually worked to display both the oval and the panels, but that method wouldn't allow me to update the oval. Also, though I just had the oval displaying, I can't seem to figure out what exactly made that happen, and I can't seem to make it come back. public class View extends JPanel{ private Model model; public View(Model model) { this.model = model; //setLayout(new GridLayout(4,1)); //add(new RadiusPanel(model)); //add(new ColorPanel(model)); //add(new SolidPanel(model)); //add(new TitlePanel(model)); repaint(); } @Override protected void paintComponent(Graphics g){ super.paintComponent(g); //center of view panel, in pixels: int xCenter = getWidth()/2; int yCenter = getHeight()/2; int radius = model.getRadius(); int xStart = xCenter - radius; int yStart = yCenter - radius; int xWidth = 2 * radius; int yHeight = 2 * radius; g.setColor(model.getColor()); g.clearRect(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight()); if (model.isSolid()){ g.fillOval(xStart, yStart, xWidth, yHeight); } else { g.drawOval(xStart, yStart, xWidth, yHeight); } } } Kinda same idea as before - the commented out code is stuff I added to try to get things working, but is not based on the provided directions. In the case where that stuff was uncommented, I had the add(new View(model)); line from the mvcFrame line uncommented as well. The various panel classes (SolidPanel, ColorPanel, etc) simply extend a class called ControlPanel which extends JPanel. These all seem to work as expected, not having much issue with them. There is also a driver which launches the GUI. This also seems to work as expected. The main problem I'm having is that I can't get the oval to show up, and the one time I could make it show up, none of the options for changing it seemed to work. I feel like I'm close but I'm just at a loss for other things to try out at this point. Anyone who can help will have my sincerest gratitude.

  • Gridview Datasource Server error

    - by salvationishere
I am developing a C# VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 website. However, I get the below error now when I first run this: The DataSourceID of 'GridView1' must be the ID of a control of type IDataSource. A control with ID 'AdventureWorks3.mdf' could not be found What is causing this error? Here is my default.aspx file. • How can I update a Jtextarea once? (mysql side-?)

    - by user1294196
Ok what I've been trying to do is figure out how to make it so when I press the search button on my program the code that is currently just being printed to the console will print to the text area I have. I can't figure out how to do this and I've searched google and still found no answer. And while I'm at it if anyone could help me figure out how to send this same line of information to a mysql database that would help greatly. package GTE; import java.awt.EventQueue; public class GTE { private JFrame frmGte; • Create a class that inherets DrawableGameComponent in XNA as a CLASS with custom functions

    - by user3675013
using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework; using Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content; namespace TileEngine { class Renderer : DrawableGameComponent { public Renderer(Game game) : base(game) { } SpriteBatch spriteBatch ; protected override void LoadContent() { base.LoadContent(); } public override void Draw(GameTime gameTime) { base.Draw(gameTime); } public override void Update(GameTime gameTime) { base.Update(gameTime); } public override void Initialize() { base.Initialize(); } public RenderTarget2D new_texture(int width, int height) { Texture2D TEX = new Texture2D(GraphicsDevice, width, height); //create the texture to render to RenderTarget2D Mine = new RenderTarget2D(GraphicsDevice, width, height); GraphicsDevice.SetRenderTarget(Mine); //set the render device to the reference provided //maybe base.draw can be used with spritebatch. Idk. We'll see if the order of operation //works out. Wish I could call base.draw here. return Mine; //I'm hoping that this returns the same instance and not a copy. } public void draw_texture(int width, int height, RenderTarget2D Mine) { GraphicsDevice.SetRenderTarget(null); //Set the renderer to render to the backbuffer again Rectangle drawrect = new Rectangle(0, 0, width, height); //Set the rendering size to what we want spriteBatch.Begin(); //This uses spritebatch to draw the texture directly to the screen spriteBatch.Draw(Mine, drawrect, Color.White); //This uses the color white spriteBatch.End(); //ends the spritebatch //Call base.draw after this since it doesn't seem to recognize inside the function //maybe base.draw can be used with spritebatch. Idk. We'll see if the order of operation //works out. Wish I could call base.draw here. } } } I solved a previous issue where I wasn't allowed to access GraphicsDevice outside the main Default 'main' class Ie "Game" or "Game1" etc. Now I have a new issue. FYi no one told me that it would be possible to use GraphicsDevice References to cause it to not be null by using the drawable class. (hopefully after this last bug is solved it doesn't still return null) Anyways at present the problem is that I can't seem to get it to initialize as an instance in my main program. Ie Renderer tileClipping; and I'm unable to use it such as it is to be noted i haven't even gotten to testing these two steps below but before it compiled but when those functions of this class were called it complained that it can't render to a null device. Which meant that the device wasn't being initialized. I had no idea why. It took me hours to google this. I finally figured out the words I needed.. which were "do my rendering in XNA in a seperate class" now I haven't used the addcomponent function because I don't want it to only run these functions automatically and I want to be able to call the custom ones. In a nutshell what I want is: *access to rendering targets and graphics device OUTSIDE default class *passing of Rendertarget2D (which contain textures and textures should automatically be passed with a rendering target? ) *the device should be passed to this function as well OR the device should be passed to this function as a byproduct of passing the rendertarget (which is automatically associated with the render device it was given originally) *I'm assuming I'm dealing with abstracted pointers here so when I pass a class object or instance, I should be recieving the SAME object , I referenced, and not a copy that has only the lifespan of the function running. *the purpose for all these options: I want to initialize new 2d textures on the fly to customize tileclipping and even the X , y Offsets of where a WHOLE texture will be rendered, and the X and Y offsets of where tiles will be rendered ON that surface. This is why. And I'll be doing region based lighting effects per tile or even per 8X8 pixel spaces.. we'll see I'll also be doing sprite rotations on the whole texture then copying it again to a circular masked texture, and then doing a second copy for only solid tiles for masked rotated collisions on sprites. I'll be checking the masked pixels for my collision, and using raycasting possibly to check for collisions on those areas. The sprite will stay in the center, when this rotation happens. Here is a detailed diagram: http://i.stack.imgur.com/INf9K.gif I'll be using texture2D for steps 4-6 I suppose for steps 1 as well. Now ontop of that, the clipping size (IE the sqaure rendered) will be able to be shrunk or increased, on a per frame basis Therefore I can't use the same static size for my main texture2d and I can't use just the backbuffer Or we get the annoying flicker. Also I will have multiple instances of the renderer class so that I can freely pass textures around as if they are playing cards (in a sense) layering them ontop of eachother, cropping them how i want and such. and then using spritebatch to simply draw them at the locations I want. Hopefully this makes sense, and yes I will be planning on using alpha blending but only after all tiles have been drawn.. The masked collision is important and Yes I am avoiding using math on the tile rendering and instead resorting to image manipulation in video memory which is WHY I need this to work the way I'm intending it to work and not in the default way that XNA seems to handle graphics. Thanks to anyone willing to help. I hate the code form offered, because then I have to rely on static presence of an update function. What if I want to kill that update function or that object, but have it in memory, but just have it temporarily inactive? I'm making the assumption here the update function of one of these gamecomponents is automatic ? Anyways this is as detailed as I can make this post hopefully someone can help me solve the issue. Instead of tell me "derrr don't do it this wayyy" which is what a few people told me (but they don't understand the actual goal I have in mind) I'm trying to create basically a library where I can copy images freely no matter the size, i just have to specify the size in the function then as long as a reference to that object exists it should be kept alive? right? :/ anyways.. Anything else? I Don't know. I understand object oriented coding but I don't understand this XNA It's beggining to feel impossible to do anything custom in it without putting ALL my rendering code into the draw function of the main class tileClipping.new_texture(GraphicsDevice, width, height) tileClipping.Draw_texture(...)

  • How to autosum value on dropdown and radio select

    - by Wilf
    I'm working on an auto calculation form which is a total column will change after a radio and a dropdown is clicked. I can make the total change for both dropdowns but the problem occurs when I tried to add a radio option. Here is my code. HTML Ages 10+: <select id="Adult" name="Adult"> <option selected="selected" value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> </select> <br />Ages 3-9: <select id="Child" name="Child"> <option selected="selected" value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> </select> <br />Food <input type="radio" name="food" id="food0" value="0" /> <label for="food0">No</label> <input type="radio" name="food" id="food1" value="10" /> <label for="food1">Yes</label> <table width="100%" border="1" align="center"> <tr> <td>Product</td> <td>Ages 10+</td> <td>Ages 3-9</td> <td>Food</td> <td>Price</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2 Day Ticket</td> <td>$235.00</td> <td>$223.00</td> <td><span id="food">0</span> </td> <td>$<span class="amount" id="2DayTotal"></span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>3 Day Ticket</td> <td>$301.00</td> <td>$285.00</td> <td><span id="food">0</span> </td> <td>$<span class="amount" id="3DayTotal"></span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>4 Day Ticket</td> <td>$315.00</td> <td>$298.00</td> <td><span id="food">0</span> </td> <td>$<span class="amount" id="4DayTotal"></span> </td> </tr> <tr> <td>5 Day Ticket</td> <td>$328.00</td> <td>$309.00</td> <td><span id="food">0</span> </td> <td>$<span class="amount" id="5DayTotal"></span> </td> </tr> </table> JavaScript var numAdult = 0; var numChild = 0; $("#Adult").change(function () { numAdult = $("#Adult").val(); calcTotals(); }); $("#Child").change(function () { numChild = $("#Child").val(); calcTotals(); }); $('input[type=radio]').change(function(evt) { $('#food').html($(this).val()); }); function calcTotals() { $("#2DayTotal").text(235 * numAdult + 223 * numChild); $("#3DayTotal").text(301 * numAdult + 285 * numChild); $("#4DayTotal").text(315 * numAdult + 298 * numChild); $("#5DayTotal").text(328 * numAdult + 309 * numChild); } The issues are: I'd like the food column change to it's value when a radio is click. It works only the first id. After a radio is clicked. A fumction calcTotals() is called to sum an additional food cost. Demo here : http://jsfiddle.net/4Jegn/178/ Please be advice.

I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. • How to implement EntityDataSource Where IN entity sql clause

    - by TonyS
I want to pass a number of values into a parameter of the EntityDataSource, e.g.: Where="it.ORDER_ID IN {@OrderIdList}" (this is a property on the EntityDataSource) <WhereParameters> <asp:ControlParameter Name="OrderIdList" Type="Int16" ControlID="OrderFilterControl" PropertyName="OrderIdList" /> </WhereParameters> This doesn't work as ORDER_ID is of type int32 and I need to pass in multiple values, e.g. {1,2,3} etc The next thing I tried was setting the Where clause in code-behind and this all works except I can't get data binding on DropDownLists to work. By this I mean no value is returned from the bound dropdownlists in the EntityDataSource Updating Event. My ideal solution would be to use a WhereParameter on the EntityDataSource but any help is appreciated. Thanks, Tony. A complete code example follows using the AdventureWorks db: Public Class EntityDataSourceWhereInClause Inherits System.Web.UI.Page Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load CustomersEntityDataSource.Where = WhereClause ''# reset after each postback as its lost otherwise End Sub Private Sub cmdFilterCustomers_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdFilterCustomers.Click Dim CustomerIdList As New Generic.List(Of Int32) For Each item As ListItem In CustomerIdCheckBoxList.Items If item.Selected Then CustomerIdList.Add(item.Value) End If Next Dim CustomerCsvList As String = String.Join(", ", CustomerIdList.Select(Function(o) o.ToString()).ToArray()) WhereClause = "it.CustomerID IN {" & CustomerCsvList & "}" CustomersEntityDataSource.Where = WhereClause FormView1.PageIndex = 0 End Sub ''# save between postbacks the custom Where IN clause Public Property WhereClause() As String Get Return ViewState("WhereClause") End Get Set(ByVal value As String) ViewState.Add("WhereClause", value) End Set End Property Private Sub CustomersEntityDataSource_Updating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.EntityDataSourceChangingEventArgs) Handles CustomersEntityDataSource.Updating Dim c = CType(e.Entity, EntityFrameworkTest.Customer) If c.Title.Length = 0 Then Response.Write("Title is empty string, so will save like this!") • Optimizing transition/movement smoothness for a 2D flash game.

    - by Tom
Update 6: Fenomenas suggested me to re-create everything as simple as possible. I had my doubts that this would make any difference as the algorithm remains the same, and performance did not seem to be the issue. Anyway, it was the only suggestion I got so here it is: 30 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/30/SimpleMovement.html 40 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/40/SimpleMovement.html 60 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/60/SimpleMovement.html 100 FPS: http://www.feedpostal.com/test/simple/100/SimpleMovement.html The code: package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.events.Event; import flash.events.KeyboardEvent; import flash.utils.getTimer; [SWF(width="800", height="600", frameRate="40", backgroundColor="#000000")] public class SimpleMovement extends Sprite { private static const TURNING_SPEED:uint = 180; private static const MOVEMENT_SPEED:uint = 400; private static const RADIAN_DIVIDE:Number = Math.PI/180; private var playerObject:Sprite; private var shipContainer:Sprite; private var moving:Boolean = false; private var turningMode:uint = 0; private var movementTimestamp:Number = getTimer(); private var turningTimestamp:Number = movementTimestamp; public function SimpleMovement() { //step 1: create player object playerObject = new Sprite(); playerObject.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x000000); playerObject.graphics.beginFill(0x6D7B8D); playerObject.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, 25, 50); //make it rotate around the center playerObject.x = 0 - playerObject.width / 2; playerObject.y = 0 - playerObject.height / 2; shipContainer = new Sprite(); shipContainer.addChild(playerObject); shipContainer.x = 100; shipContainer.y = 100; shipContainer.rotation = 180; addChild(shipContainer); //step 2: install keyboard hook when stage is ready addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, stageReady, false, 0, true); //step 3: install rendering update poll addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, updatePoller, false, 0, true); } private function updatePoller(event:Event):void { var newTime:Number = getTimer(); //turning if (turningMode != 0) { var turningDeltaTime:Number = newTime - turningTimestamp; turningTimestamp = newTime; var rotation:Number = TURNING_SPEED * turningDeltaTime / 1000; if (turningMode == 1) shipContainer.rotation -= rotation; else shipContainer.rotation += rotation; } //movement if (moving) { var movementDeltaTime:Number = newTime - movementTimestamp; movementTimestamp = newTime; var distance:Number = MOVEMENT_SPEED * movementDeltaTime / 1000; var rAngle:Number = shipContainer.rotation * RADIAN_DIVIDE; //convert degrees to radian shipContainer.x += distance * Math.sin(rAngle); shipContainer.y -= distance * Math.cos(rAngle); } } private function stageReady(event:Event):void { //install keyboard hook stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyDown, false, 0, true); stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, keyUp, false, 0, true); } private final function keyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void { if ((event.keyCode == 87) && (!moving)) //87 = W { movementTimestamp = getTimer(); moving = true; } if ((event.keyCode == 65) && (turningMode != 1)) //65 = A { turningTimestamp = getTimer(); turningMode = 1; } else if ((event.keyCode == 68) && (turningMode != 2)) //68 = D { turningTimestamp = getTimer(); turningMode = 2; } } private final function keyUp(event:KeyboardEvent):void { if ((event.keyCode == 87) && (moving)) moving = false; //87 = W if (((event.keyCode == 65) || (event.keyCode == 68)) && (turningMode != 0)) turningMode = 0; //65 = A, 68 = D } } } The results were as I expected. Absolutely no improvement. I really hope that someone has another suggestion as this thing needs fixing. Also, I doubt it's my system as I have a pretty good one (8GB RAM, Q9550 QuadCore intel, ATI Radeon 4870 512MB). Also, everyone else I asked so far had the same issue with my client. Update 5: another example of a smooth flash game just to demonstrate that my movement definitely is different! During these differences, the shocking/warping/flickering movement was already going on. There is also 1 peak of 232ms, at this time there was a relatively big warp. This is however not the biggest problme, the biggest problem are the continuous small warps during normal movement. Does this give anyone a clue? Update 3: After testing, I know that the following factors are not causing my problem: Bitmap's quality - changed with photoshop to an uglier 8 colours optimized graphic, no improvement at all. Constant rotation of image while turning - disabled it, no improvement at all Browser rendering - tried to use the flash player standalone, no improvement at all I am 100% convinced that the problem lies in either my code or in my algorithm. Please, help me out. It has been almost two weeks (1 week that I asked this question on SO) now and I still have to get my golden answer. Update 1: see bottom for full flex project source and a live demo demonstrating my problem. I'm working on a 2d flash game. Player ships are created as an object: ships[id] = new GameShip(); When movement and rotation information is available, this is being directed to the corresponding ship: ships[id].setMovementMode(1); //move forward Now, within this GameShip object movement works using the "Event.ENTER_FRAME" event: addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, movementHandler); The following function is then being run: private final function movementHandler(event:Event):void { var newTimeStamp:uint = UtilLib.getTimeStamp(); //set current timeStamp var distance:Number = (newTimeStamp - movementTimeStamp) / 1000 * movementSpeed; //speed = x pixels forward every 1 second movementTimeStamp = newTimeStamp; //update old timeStamp var diagonalChange:Array = getDiagonalChange(movementAngle, distance); //the diagonal position update based on angle and distance charX += diagonalChange[0]; charY += diagonalChange[1]; if (shipContainer) { //when the container is ready to be worked with shipContainer.x = charX; shipContainer.y = charY; } } private final function getDiagonalChange(angle:Number, distance:Number):Array { var rAngle:Number = angle * Math.PI/180; //convert degrees to radian return [Math.sin(rAngle) * distance, (Math.cos(rAngle) * distance) * -1]; } When the object is no longer moving, the event listener will be removed. The same method is being used for rotation. Everything works almost perfect. I've set the project's target FPS to 100 and created a FPS counter. According to the FPS counter, the average FPS in firefox is around 100, while the top is 1000 and the bottom is 22. I think that the bottom and top FPSs are only happening during the initialization of the client (startup). The problem is that the ship appears to be almost perfectly smooth, while it should be just that without the "almost" part. It's almost as if the ship is "flickering" very very fast, you can't actually see it but it's hard to focus on the object while it's moving with your eyes. Also, every now and then, there seems to be a bit of a framerate spike, as if the client is skipping a couple of frames, you then see it quickly warp. It is very difficult to explain what the real problem is, but in general it's that the movement is not perfectly smooth. So, do you have any suggestions on how to make the movement or transition of objects perfectly smooth? Update 1: I re-created the client to demonstrate my problem. Please check it out. The client: http://feedpostal.com/test/MovementTest.html The Actionscript Project (full source): http://feedpostal.com/test/MovementTest.rar An example of a smooth flash game (not created by me): http://www.gamesforwork.com/games/swf/Mission%20Racing_august_10th_2009.swf It took me a pretty long time to recreate this client side version, I hope this will help with solving the problem. Please note: yes, it is actually pretty smooth. But it is definitely not smooth enough.

like PersonalInfo, contactInfo,Address there will be only one record, but for tags like "OtherInfo","academicInfo","ProfessionalInfo" there will be multiple records so in xml there are tags for that. now to edit tags having one record only for one user i did coding like: private void FillFamilyInfoControls(XElement rootElement) { ddlSunsign.DataBind(); XElement parentElement; string xPathQuery = "FamilyInfo/Fields"; parentElement = rootElement.XPathSelectElement(xPathQuery); txtGallantryHistory.Text = parentElement.Element("GallantryHistory").Attribute("value").Value; txtEthinicity.Text = parentElement.Element("Ethinicity").Attribute("value").Value; txtKulDev.Text = parentElement.Element("KulDev").Attribute("value").Value; txtKulDevi.Text = parentElement.Element("KulDevi").Attribute("value").Value; txtCaste.Text = parentElement.Element("Caste").Attribute("value").Value; ddlSunsign.SelectedValue = parentElement.Element("SunSignId").Attribute("value").Value; ddlSunsign.SelectedItem.Text = parentElement.Element("SunSignName").Attribute("value").Value; } private XElement UpdateFamilyInfoXML(XElement rootElement) { XElement parentElement; string xPathQuery = "FamilyInfo/Fields"; parentElement = rootElement.XPathSelectElement(xPathQuery); parentElement.Element("GallantryHistory").Attribute("value").Value = txtGallantryHistory.Text; parentElement.Element("Ethinicity").Attribute("value").Value = txtEthinicity.Text; parentElement.Element("KulDev").Attribute("value").Value = txtKulDev.Text; parentElement.Element("KulDevi").Attribute("value").Value = txtKulDevi.Text; parentElement.Element("Caste").Attribute("value").Value = txtCaste.Text; parentElement.Element("SunSignId").Attribute("value").Value = ddlSunsign.SelectedItem.Value; parentElement.Element("SunSignName").Attribute("value").Value = ddlSunsign.SelectedItem.Text; parentElement.Element("ModifiedBy").Attribute("value").Value = UMSession.CurrentLoggedInUser.UserId.ToString(); parentElement.Element("ModifiedOn").Attribute("value").Value = System.DateTime.Now.ToString(); return rootElement; //rootElement.XPathSelectElement(xPathQuery) = parentElement; } these 2 functions i have used to update xml and to get data from xml and fill into controls. but for the tags where there are multiple records... i am not able to find any solution /control using which i an do it easily. coz my field's value is in attribute named "Value" when in the examples i saw its between opening and closing tag.. i have 2 methods to do so. 1 . i make one page to edit a single record and pass id of record to that page on editing. open the page in iframe on same page to edit and in page_load get data from database for id passed and fill it in control. 2 . i store xml on server as physical file and use it in page i opened in iframe to edit the record. so i am confused... can anybody please guide me that what shpould i do to let user provide interface to edit this xml data/user profile ?

  • How to fix a Sticky Footer that works, but after a browser window is resized, the footer overlaps.

    - by UXdesigner
Good day, I've been trying to build a perfect footer who sticks at the bottom of the browser window after it's content. And I got help here @ Stack Overflow previously. But after a while, and doing a few tests, found out that after the browser window is resized, and then I scroll down , the footer overlaps...it is causing me a big headache right now and I'd like to fix this so I can move on. I'm going to post the display.css right here: @charset "utf-8"; body, html { margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: center; position: relative; min-height:100%; /* needed for footer positioning*/ height:100%; /* needed for footer positioning*/ } .spacer { clear: both; height: 0; margin: 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } .spacer_left { clear: left; margin: 0 0 10px 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.1em; } hr { height: 1px; margin: 20px 0 20px 0; border: 0; color: #ccc; background: #ccc; } #container { position:relative; /* needed for footer positioning*/ min-height: 100%;/* needed for footer positioning*/ height: auto !important;/* needed for footer positioning*/ height: 100%;/* needed for footer positioning*/ margin: 0 auto -30px;/* needed for footer positioning*/ width: 1160px; padding: 0; border: 1px solid #333; text-align: left; } #header { margin: 0; padding: 5px; height:70px; } #login { font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; color:#FFF; text-align: right; width: 440px; margin: 2px; exist for the emailaddress dont update data else create a user and update its profilexml from data fecthed from gedcom. for this i think i need some soln by which i can do only one roundtrip to database and can update all user's xml. or i can execute one sp to get userid from all users where i'll check if user exist then return userid else insert basic data and return inserted userid then for every user make xml from data and update it. please provide be suggestion what is best practice to do this kind of development. if need any more details please write me

  • problem with revalidating a jframe.

    - by John Quesie
I have this code which should take the radio button input do a little math and display a popup. which it does fine. but then it is supposed to re validate and ask the next question. when i get to the second question, the answer always comes out as the isSelected(true) value no matter which radio button you click on. SO to be clear the first time through it works fin but when the second question comes up, it just takes the default radio button every time. public class EventHandler implements ActionListener { private Main gui; • Jquery Flexslider - can't see navigational images (manualControl)

    - by Kim Thomas
    I've spent a lot of time looking at the post on 3/13/12 re: manual controls, but isn't getting me all the way there...probably because I don't know jquery. Sorry, newbie on board. I'm trying to get the right/left arrows to show, as well as the 1, 2, 3...at the bottom. They are there, I see the lists on Firebug, just don't know how to add them to the "hook" (?) so they appear. Here is the code I have in header: <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="jquery.flexslider.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(window).load(function() { $('.flexslider').flexslider({ animation: "slide", slideshow: false, controlNav: true, manualControls: ".flex-control-nav li a", controlsContainer: ".flex-container" }); }); </script> Here is my html: <div class="flex-container"> <div class="flexslider"> <ul class="slides"> <li><img src="images/tah_home.jpg" alt="taylor art house home page" width="600" height="320"/> <p class="flex-caption">Taylor Art House Home Page</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_blog.jpg" alt="taylor art house blog page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created a blog that fits seemlessly into Taylor Art House's look</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_artwork_page.jpg" alt="taylor art house art page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">One of Taylor Art House's gallery pages, using a Wordpress plugin</p></li> <li><img src="images/tah_arch_portfolio.jpg" alt="jon taylor architecture portfolio page" width="600" height="320" /> <p class="flex-caption">We created links to toggle from TAH to Jon Taylor Architecture</p></li> </ul> </div><!--end flexsider--> </div><!--end flex-container--> Here is the Flexslider CSS: /* * jQuery FlexSlider v1.8 * http://www.woothemes.com/flexslider/ * * Copyright 2012 WooThemes * Free to use under the MIT license. * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php */ /* Browser Resets */ .flex-container a:active, .flexslider a:active, .flex-container a:focus, .flexslider a:focus {outline: none;} .slides, .flex-control-nav, .flex-direction-nav {margin: 0; padding: 0; list-style: none;} /* FlexSlider Necessary Styles *********************************/ .flexslider { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .flexslider .slides > li { display: none; -webkit-backface-visibility: hidden; } /* Hide the slides before the JS is loaded.   • Error Message, "The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks"

    - by Gogster
I'm receiving this error on a page that previously worked fine, in fact the only change I've made to the page recently was to add another asp:TextBox and asp:RequiredFieldValidator control. The page already had numerous ASP.NET controls on it, so I cannot see why these extra controls would make a difference, anyway I shall post the code below and hopefully you can see what the error is: • Need AngularJS grid resizing directive to resize "thumbnail" that contains no image

    - by thebravedave
UPDATE Plunker to project: http://plnkr.co/edit/oKB96szQhqwpKQbOGUDw?p=preview I have an AngularJS project that uses AngularJS Bootstrap grids. I need all of the grid elements to have the same size so they stack properly. I created an angularJs directive that auto resizes the grid element when placed in said grid element. I have 2 directives that do this for me Directive 1: onload Directive 2: imageonload Directive 2 works. If the grid element uses an image, after the image loads then the directive triggers an event that sends the grid elements height to all other grid elements. If that height sent out via the event is greater than that of the grid element which is listening to the event then that listening grid element changes it's height to be the greater height. This way the largest height becomes the height for all the grid elements. Directive 1 does not work. This one is placed on the outer most grid elements html element, and is triggered when the element loads. The problem is that when the element loads and the onload directive is called AngularJS has not yet filled out the data in said grid element. The outcome is that the real height after AngularJS data binds is not broadcast as an event. My only solution I have thought of (but haven't tried) is to add an image url to an image that exists but doesn't have any data in it, and place that in the grid element (the one that didn't have any images before placing the blank one in). I could then call imageonload instead of onload and I pretty sure the angularjs data binding will have taken place by then. the problem is that that is pretty hacky. I would rather be able to have not an image in the grid element, and be able to call my custom onload directive and have the onload directive calculate the height AFTER angularJS data binds to all of the data binding variables in the grid element. Here is my imageonload directive .directive('imageonload', function($rootScope) { return { restrict: 'A', link: function(scope, element, attrs) { scope.heightArray = []; scope.largestHeight = 50; element.bind('load', function() { broadcastThumbnailHeight(); }); scope.$on('imageOnLoadEvent', function(caller, value){ var el = angular.element(element); var id = el.prop('id'); var pageName = el.prop('title'); if(pageName == value[0]){ if(scope.largestHeight < value[1]){ scope.largestHeight = value[1]; var nestedString = el.prop('alt'); if(nestedString == "") nestedString = "1"; var nested = parseInt(nestedString); nested = nested - 1; var inte = 0; var thumbnail = el["0"]; var finalThumbnailContainer = thumbnail.parentElement; while(inte != nested){ finalThumbnailContainer = finalThumbnailContainer.parentElement; inte++; } var innerEl = angular.element(finalThumbnailContainer); var height = value[1]; innerEl.height(height); } } }); scope.$on('findHeightAndBroadcast', function(){ broadcastThumbnailHeight(); }); scope.$on('resetThumbnailHeight', function(){ scope.largestHeight = 50; }); function broadcastThumbnailHeight(){ var el = angular.element(element); var id = el.prop('id'); var alt = el.prop('alt'); if(alt == "") alt = "1"; var nested = parseInt(alt); nested = nested - 1; var pageName = el.prop('title'); var inte = 1; var thumbnail = el["0"]; var finalThumbnail = thumbnail.parentElement; while(inte != nested){ finalThumbnail = finalThumbnail.parentElement; inte++; } var elZero = el["0"]; var clientHeight = finalThumbnail.clientHeight; var arr = []; arr[0] = pageName; arr[1] = clientHeight; $rootScope.$broadcast('imageOnLoadEvent', arr); } } }; }) And here is my onload directive .directive('onload', function($rootScope) { return { restrict: 'A', link: function(scope, element, attrs) { scope.largestHeight=100; getHeightAndBroadcast(); scope.$on('onLoadEvent', function(caller, value){ var el = angular.element(element); var id = el.prop('id'); var pageName = el.prop('title'); if(pageName == value[0]){ if(scope.largestHeight < value[1]){ scope.largestHeight = value[1]; var height = value[1]; el.height(height); } } }); function getHeightAndBroadcast(){ var el = angular.element(element); var h = el["0"].children; var thumbnailHeightElement = angular.element(h); var pageName = el.prop("title"); var clientHeight = thumbnailHeightElement["0"].clientHeight; var arr = []; arr[0] = pageName; arr[1] = clientHeight; if(clientHeight != undefined) $rootScope.$broadcast('onLoadEvent', arr); } } }; }) Here is an example of one of my grid elements that uses imageonload. Note the imageonload directive in the image html element. This works. There is also an onload directive on the outer most html of the grid element. That does not work. I have stepped through this carefully in Firebug and saw that the onload was calculating the height before AngularJS data binding was complete. <div class="thumbnail col-md-3" id="{{product.id}}" title="thumbnailAdminProductsGrid" onload> <div class="row"> <div class="containerz"> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-2"></div> <div class="col-md-7"> <div class="textcenterinline"> <!--tag--><img class="img-responsive" id="{{product.id}}" title="imageAdminProductsGrid" alt=6 ng-src="{{product.baseImage}}" imageonload/><!--end tag--> </div> </div> </div> <div class="caption"> <div class="testing"> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12"> <h3 class=""> <!--tag--><a href="javascript:void(0);" ng-click="loadProductView('{{product.id}}')">{{product.name}}</a><!--end tag--> </h3> </div> </div> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12"> <p class="lead"><!--tag--> {{product.price}}</p><!--end tag--> </div> </div> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12"> <p><!--tag-->{{product.inStock}} units available<!--end tag--></p> </div> </div> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12"> <p class=""><!--tag-->{{product.generalDescription}}<!--end tag--></p> </div> </div> <!--tag--> <div data-ng-if="product.specialized=='true'"> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12" ng-repeat="varCat in product.varietyCategoriesAndOptions"> <b><h4>{{varCat.varietyCategoryName}}</h4></b> <select ng-model="varCat.varietyCategoryOption" ng-options="value.varietyCategoryOptionId as value.varietyCategoryOptionValue for (key, value) in varCat.varietyCategoryOptions"> </select> </div> </div> </div> <!--end tag--> <div class="row-fluid"> <div class="col-md-12"> <!--tag--><div ng-if="product.weight==0"><b>Free Shipping</b></div><!--end tag--> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> Here is an example of one of the html for one of my grid elements that only uses the "onload" directive and not "imageonload" <div class="thumbnail col-md-3" title="thumbnailCouponGrid" onload> <div class="innnerContainer"> <div class="text-center"> {{coupon.name}} <br /> <br /> <b>Description</b> <br /> {{coupon.description}} <br /> <br /> <button class="btn btn-large btn-primary" ng-click="goToCoupon()">View Coupon Details</button> </div> </div> The imageonload function might look a little confusing because I use the img html attribute "alt" to signal to the directive how many levels the imageonload is placed below the outermost html for the grid element. We have to have this so the directive knows which html element to set the new height on. also I use the "title" attribute to set which grid this grid resizing is for (that way you can use the directive multiple times on the same page for different grids and not have the events for the wrong grid triggered). Does anyone know how I can get the "onload" directive to get called AFTER angularJS binds to the grid element? Just for completeness here are 2 images (almost looks like just 1), the second is a grid that contains grid elements that have images and use the "imageonload" directive and the first is a grid that contains grid elements that do not use images and only uses the "onload" directive.

  • Slowdowns when reading from an urlconnection's inputstream (even with byte[] and buffers)

    - by user342677
Ok so after spending two days trying to figure out the problem, and reading about dizillion articles, i finally decided to man up and ask to for some advice(my first time here). Now to the issue at hand - I am writing a program which will parse api data from a game, namely battle logs. There will be A LOT of entries in the database(20+ million) and so the parsing speed for each battle log page matters quite a bit. The pages to be parsed look like this: http://api.erepublik.com/v1/feeds/battle_logs/10000/0. (see source code if using chrome, it doesnt display the page right). It has 1000 hit entries, followed by a little battle info(lastpage will have <1000 obviously). On average, a page contains 175000 characters, UTF-8 encoding, xml format(v 1.0). Program will run locally on a good PC, memory is virtually unlimited(so that creating byte[250000] is quite ok). The format never changes, which is quite convenient. Now, I started off as usual: //global vars, class declaration skipped public WebObject(String url_string, int connection_timeout, int read_timeout, boolean redirects_allowed, String user_agent) throws java.net.MalformedURLException, java.io.IOException { // Open a URL connection java.net.URL url = new java.net.URL(url_string); java.net.URLConnection uconn = url.openConnection(); if (!(uconn instanceof java.net.HttpURLConnection)) { throw new java.lang.IllegalArgumentException("URL protocol must be HTTP"); } conn = (java.net.HttpURLConnection) uconn; conn.setConnectTimeout(connection_timeout); conn.setReadTimeout(read_timeout); conn.setInstanceFollowRedirects(redirects_allowed); conn.setRequestProperty("User-agent", user_agent); } public void executeConnection() throws IOException { try { is = conn.getInputStream(); //global var l = conn.getContentLength(); //global var } catch (Exception e) { //handling code skipped } } //getContentStream and getLength methods which just return'is' and 'l' are skipped Here is where the fun part began. I ran some profiling (using System.currentTimeMillis()) to find out what takes long ,and what doesnt. The call to this method takes only 200ms on avg public InputStream getWebPageAsStream(int battle_id, int page) throws Exception { String url = "http://api.erepublik.com/v1/feeds/battle_logs/" + battle_id + "/" + page; WebObject wobj = new WebObject(url, 10000, 10000, true, "Mozilla/5.0 " + "(Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729)"); wobj.executeConnection(); l = wobj.getContentLength(); // global variable return wobj.getContentStream(); //returns 'is' stream } 200ms is quite expected from a network operation, and i am fine with it. BUT when i parse the inputStream in any way(read it into string/use java XML parser/read it into another ByteArrayStream) the process takes over 1000ms! for example, this code takes 1000ms IF i pass the stream i got('is') above from getContentStream() directly to this method: public static Document convertToXML(InputStream is) throws ParserConfigurationException, IOException, SAXException { DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc = db.parse(is); doc.getDocumentElement().normalize(); return doc; } this code too, takes around 920ms IF the initial InputStream 'is' is passed in(dont read into the code itself - it just extracts the data i need by directly counting the characters, which can be done thanks to the rigid api feed format): public static parsedBattlePage convertBattleToXMLWithoutDOM(InputStream is) throws IOException { // Point A BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is)); LinkedList ll = new LinkedList(); String str = br.readLine(); while (str != null) { ll.add(str); str = br.readLine(); } if (((String) ll.get(1)).indexOf("error") != -1) { return new parsedBattlePage(null, null, true, -1); } //Point B Iterator it = ll.iterator(); it.next(); it.next(); it.next(); it.next(); String[][] hits_arr = new String[1000][4]; String t_str = (String) it.next(); String tmp = null; int j = 0; for (int i = 0; t_str.indexOf("time") != -1; i++) { hits_arr[i][0] = t_str.substring(12, t_str.length() - 11); tmp = (String) it.next(); hits_arr[i][1] = tmp.substring(14, tmp.length() - 9); tmp = (String) it.next(); hits_arr[i][2] = tmp.substring(15, tmp.length() - 10); tmp = (String) it.next(); hits_arr[i][3] = tmp.substring(18, tmp.length() - 13); it.next(); it.next(); t_str = (String) it.next(); j++; } String[] b_info_arr = new String[9]; int[] space_nums = {13, 10, 13, 11, 11, 12, 5, 10, 13}; for (int i = 0; i < space_nums.length; i++) { tmp = (String) it.next(); b_info_arr[i] = tmp.substring(space_nums[i] + 4, tmp.length() - space_nums[i] - 1); } //Point C return new parsedBattlePage(hits_arr, b_info_arr, false, j); } I have tried replacing the default BufferedReader with BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(is), 250000); This didnt change much. My second try was to replace the code between A and B with: Iterator it = IOUtils.lineIterator(is, "UTF-8"); Same result, except this time A-B was 0ms, and B-C was 1000ms, so then every call to it.next() must have been consuming some significant time.(IOUtils is from apache-commons-io library). And here is the culprit - the time taken to parse the stream to string, be it by an iterator or BufferedReader in ALL cases was about 1000ms, while the rest of the code took 0ms(e.g. irrelevant). This means that parsing the stream to LinkedList, or iterating over it, for some reason was eating up a lot of my system resources. question was - why? Is it just the way java is made...no...thats just stupid, so I did another experiment. In my main method I added after the getWebPageAsStream(): //Point A ba = new byte[l]; // 'l' comes from wobj.getContentLength above bytesRead = is.read(ba); //'is' is our URLConnection original InputStream offset = bytesRead; while (bytesRead != -1) { bytesRead = is.read(ba, offset - 1, l - offset); offset += bytesRead; } //Point B InputStream is2 = new ByteArrayInputStream(ba); //Now just working with 'is2' - the "copied" stream The InputStream-byte[] conversion took again 1000ms - this is the way many ppl suggested to read an InputStream, and stil it is slow. And guess what - the 2 parser methods above (convertToXML() and convertBattlePagetoXMLWithoutDOM(), when passed 'is2' instead of 'is' took, in all 4 cases, under 50ms to complete. I read a suggestion that the stream waits for connection to close before unblocking, so i tried using HttpComponentsClient 4.0 (http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client/index.html) instead, but the initial InputStream took just as long to parse. e.g. this code: public InputStream getWebPageAsStream2(int battle_id, int page) throws Exception { String url = "http://api.erepublik.com/v1/feeds/battle_logs/" + battle_id + "/" + page; HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(url); HttpParams p = new BasicHttpParams(); HttpConnectionParams.setSocketBufferSize(p, 250000); HttpConnectionParams.setStaleCheckingEnabled(p, false); HttpConnectionParams.setConnectionTimeout(p, 5000); httpget.setParams(p); HttpResponse response = httpclient.execute(httpget); HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); l = (int) entity.getContentLength(); return entity.getContent(); } took even longer to process(50ms more for just the network) and the stream parsing times remained the same. Obviously it can be instantiated so as to not create HttpClient and properties every time(faster network time), but the stream issue wont be affected by that. So we come to the center problem - why does the initial URLConnection InputStream(or HttpClient InputStream) take so long to process, while any stream of same size and content created locally is orders of magnitude faster? I mean, the initial response is already somewhere in RAM, and I cant see any good reasong why it is processed so slowly compared to when a same stream is just created from a byte[]. Considering I have to parse million of entries and thousands of pages like that, a total processing time of almost 1.5s/page seems WAY WAY too long. Any ideas? P.S. Please ask in any more code is required - the only thing I do after parsing is make a PreparedStatement and put the entries into JavaDB in packs of 1000+, and the perfomance is ok ~ 200ms/1000entries, prb could be optimized with more cache but I didnt look into it much.

  • 'SImple' 2 class Java calculator doesn't accept inputs or do calculations

    - by Tony O'Keeffe
Hi, I'm trying to get a two class java calculator working (new to java) to work but so far i'm having no success. the two classes are outlined below, calcFrame is for the interface and calEngine should do the actual calculations but i can't get them to talk to one another. i'd really appreciate any assistance on same. Thanks. CalcFrame Code - import java.awt.; import javax.swing.; import javax.swing.border.; import java.awt.event.; /** *A Class that operates as the framework for a calculator. *No calculations are performed in this section */ public class CalcFrame implements ActionListener { private CalcEngine calc; • Java Simple Calculator

    - by Lahiru Kavinda
I have made this calculator program in Java. This works well only when two numbers are calculated at one time. That means to get the sum of 1+2+3 you have to go this way : press 1 press + press 2 press = press + press 3 press = and it calculates it as 6. But I want to program this so that I can get the answer by: press 1 press + press 2 press + press 3 press = but this gives the answer 5!!! How to code this so that it works like an ordinary calculator? Here is my code: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; public class cal1 extends JFrame { double op1 = 0d, op2 = 0d; double result = 0d; char action; boolean b = false; boolean pressequal = false; public cal1() { makeUI(); } private void makeUI() { setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); setSize(400, 400); b0 = new JButton("0"); b1 = new JButton("1"); b2 = new JButton("2"); b3 = new JButton("3"); • Conflict between two Javascripts (MailChimp validation etc. scripts & jQuery hSlides.js)

    - by Brian
I have two scripts running on the same page, one is the jQuery.hSlides.js script http://www.jesuscarrera.info/demos/hslides/ and the other is a custom script that is used for MailChimp list signup integration. The hSlides panel can be seen in effect here: http://theatricalbellydance.com. I've turned off the MailChimp script because it was conflicting with the hSlides script, causing it not to to fail completely (as seen here http://theatricalbellydance.com/home2/). Can someone tell me what could be done to the hSlides script to stop the conflict with the MailChimp script? • Modifying and Manipulating a interactive bezier curve

    - by rachel
This is a homework question and I'm having a lot of trouble with it - I've managed to do some of it but still cant finish it - can i Please get some help. Q1. Bezier Curves The following example allows you to interactively control a bezier curve by dragging the control points Cubic.java Replace the call to draw the cubic shape (big.draw(cubic)), by your own function to draw a bezier by the recursive split method. Finally, add the ability to create a longer Bezier curve by adding more control points to create a second curve.
