  Hi all, I got an array which has 7 types of fruit: $fruits = array( "lemon", "orange", "banana", "apple", "cherry", "apricot", "Blueberry" ); I don't know how to print out the data in a way that the outcome will like this: <A> Apple, Apricot (Note that Apricot is followed by Apple in alphabetic order) <B> Banana <C> Cherry <L> Lemon <O> Orange I am sorry that the question may be a bit difficult. • Java Polymorphism - Selecting correct method based on subtype

  Hi Given the following Class and Service layer signatures: public class PersonActionRequest { PersonVO person // ... other fields } public class MyServiceLayerClass { public void requestAction(PersonActionRequest request) { PersonVO abstractPerson = request.getPerson(); // call appropriate executeAction method based on subclass of PersonVO } private void executeAction(PersonVO person) {} private void executeAction(EmployeeVO employee) {} private void executeAction(ManagerVO manager) {} private void executeAction(UnicornWranglerVO unicornWrangler) {} } As discussed here, java will select the best method based on type info at compile time. (Ie., it will always select executeAction(PersonVO person) ). What's the most appropriate way to select the correct method? The internet tells me that using instanceof gets me slapped. However, I don't see the appropraite way to select the method without explictly casting abstractPerson to one of the other concrete types. Thanks Marty

• Restrict folder sharing over cygwin sshd

  I recently installed a SSH server on my Windows 7 PC and created a separate user account for this. When i logged in using SSH, i could access all the windows directories. /cygdrive/c /cygdrive/d /cygdrive/e How do i prevent this user from accessing all the win directories other than its home directory under cygwin /home/chuck/ ? Preferably i do not want the user to even view /cygdrive when the user types "mount". Is there a easy way to do this? I want to later allow remote users to log on to this machine and avoid messing up other things.I know i can setup a separate machine but this is a plan for later.

• Is there a general concrete implementation of a KeyedCollection?

  The System.Collections.ObjectModel.KeyedCollection class is a very useful alternative to System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary, especially when the key data is part of the object being stored or you want to be able to enumerate the items in order. Unfortunately, the class is abstract, and I am unable to find a general concrete implementation in the core .NET framework. The Framework Design Guidlines book indicates that a concrete implementation should be provided for abstract types (section 4.4 Abstract Class Design). • Force save files all browsers - not open in browser window

  I'm after a simple solution to work in all browsers. For specific file types, or targeted links via a class: how can I get them to simply force download in all major browsers. • What are some good design patterns for CRUD?

  I am working with a number of data entities which can be created, read, updated and deleted, and I find myself writing more or less the same code for them. For example, I need to sometimes output data as JSON, and sometimes in a table format. I am finding myself writing 2 different types of view to export the data to. Also, the creation of those entities within DB usually differs just by the SQL statements and the input parameters. I am thinking of creating a strategy pattern to represent different 'contexts'. For example, the read() method of an AJAX context will be to return the data as JSON. However, I wonder if others have deal with this problem beforehand and will like to know what design patterns are usually use for CRUD operations.

• swf file upload control not filtering the files for the second time

  iam using swf file upload control in my application developed in asp.net & c#.net. i am having a dropdown box with file types like jpeg,.xls ,.txt etc. so when i select particular file type in the dropdown and clicking on the button would open a filedialog showing only the files of the type selected in the dropdown. The problem is that when i select "jpeg" for the first time file dialog shows only jpeg files. when i select ".xls" next time it shows again the prevoiusly selected jpeg files and not currently selected ".xls". but while debugging it was found the file type definition in the swf code has been changed to .xls . can any one guide why the file upload control not mapping the selected file for the second time

• Is WPF a good choice for developing line of business user interfaces?

  We're debating whether our future Windows UI development should be WinForms or WPF. How have some of you made this decision? Most of our applications are LOB applications, and I'm not sure I see a clear and overwhelming benefit to WPF for these types of applications. However, my knowledge of WPF is limited. I'm also a little concerned that WPF will be in vogue for another couple years and then Microsoft will get tired of it and push something else on us. I guess one argument against this is the fact that Visual Studio 2010 is a WPF application. Thanks.

• Validation Rules in Webtesting using VS2010

  I'm creating a simple webtest (Recorded Web performance test) that makes sure that a correct error message is displayed if i try to login with a username that does not exist. However, there are two types of error messages that handle incorrect login info. One is for all the usernames that do not exist and therefore are not allowed, and the other is for usernames that start with the letter 'Q' (which is not allowed for a few reasons). Now what i want to do is use the 'Find Text' validation rule and the test should pass if ONE of the 'Find Text' parameters is found, and in that case i want the second 'Find Text' rule to be ignored so it doesn't fail the test. In other words the test should always pass if one of the 'Find Test' rules is found. How can i achieve that? Is there some if,else statement that i can use for this?

• Can a grails controller extend from a base class? How to make it so grails doesn't blow up?

  I wrote a base class to help build my controllers more quickly and to remove duplication. It provides some helper methods, default actions and some meta programming to make these things easier to build. • Web form / CGI scripting: User enters "word", IFrame displays "word".html

  Okay, I'll admit being a designer, I don't know much about how data is handled from the servers in forms... (basically the whole programming part). Basically I have a text field that the user types something like "apple", this gets sent to the server and then displays the apple.html page that I have in a directory in an IFrame. If anyone can show me how to do this in a PHP script or Perl, would be great thanks! I think this is good start, it gets more complicated than this... I later have to convert the "apple" into something like 2321 and display 2321.html instead. If anyone can find a CGI script that does this, thanks!

  I am trying to find all of the types in the Models namespace within an ASP.NET MVC assembly from within a testing assembly. I was trying to use LINQ to find the relevant set for me but it is returning an empty set on me. • Pros and cons of ways of storing an unsigned int without an unsigned int data type

  I have values that are 64-bit unsigned ints, and I need to store them in mongodb, which has no unsigned int type. I see three main possibilities for storing them in other field types, and converting on going in and out: Using a signed int is probably easiest and most space efficient, but has the disadvantage that they're not human readable and if someone forgets to do the conversion, some of them will work, which may obscure errors. Raw binary is probably most difficult for inexperienced programmers to deal with, and also suffers from non-human-readability. A string representation is the least space efficient (~40 bytes in unicode vs 8 bytes per field), but then at least all of the possible values will map properly, and for querying only a conversion to string is required instead of a more complicated conversion. I need these values to be available from different platforms, so a single driver-specific solution isn't an option. Any major pros and cons I've missed? Which one would you use?

• Want to bind an input field to a jquery-ui slider handle

  hello, I want to bind an input field to the jquery-ui slider handle. So whenever one value changes I want the other value to also change. Ex: if someone types 1000 into the minimum value input field I want the lower slider handle to move to the 1000 mark. Also if the user drags the lower slider handle to 1000 the input field should reflect that. • Sorting MySQL results within a resultset

  I have a resultset of lets say 10 results. 3 of them have a type 'Pears', and the next 3 have a type 'Apples' and the next three have a type of 'Bananas'. The last record has a type of 'Squeezing Equipment' - unrelated to the fruits. How do I return this set of results (for pagination too) in a GROUPED order that I specify WITHOUT using any inherent sort factor like ALPHABETA or ID etc?   Hi! I'm working with PostgreSQL to create some data types written in C. For example, I have: typedef struct Point3D { char id[50]; double x; double y; double z; } Point3D; The input and output functions are working properly. But the problem is the following: Every id of Point3D must be unique (and can be NULL), so I have decided to create an unique index on this field id, but is that possible? I'm thinking in something like this: create unique index test_point3d_idx on test_point3d (( getID(columname) )); where getID returns the field ID of columname. But I need to implement getID and I am really blocked. Any advice?

• Preventing multiple reporting of the same rule violation in FxCop -- What is Id?

  FxCop is currently reporting the same rule violation for a particular method -- it has two out parameters, because I want to return two values to the caller without creating a struct for it. I wonder if anonymous types would solve my problem, but I didn't know about them at the time I had written the method. Anyhow, I'm getting CheckId CA1021 reported once for each parameter. I've copied the SuppressMessage text from FxCop, and then realized that the Id for each message is different! To me, it seems like you only need the CheckId, so... what is the Id used for? I haven't been able to find information about it online. will the Id remain the same? I assume so, or SuppressMessage wouldn't work the way one would want it to is there a way to specify the SuppressMessage attribute so that it suppresses for all Ids?

• Duplicate a Drupal installation from one server to another

  Hello. I have been developing a Drupal 6 site on my PC using XAMPP. I'm done now, and everything looks peachy. Problem is, I need to put all my content (including custom modules and themes) up onto a staging server which only has a fresh Drupal 6 install on it. I can't imagine having to set up all my custom content types and whatnot all over again on the staging server. So I ask, how does one go about doing what I need to do? Which is essentially duplicating my Drupal install from my PC, to the staging server. The staging server is running Linux, and I develop on a Windows PC, if that helps. Thanks in advance.

• getting detailed information about structured exceptions

  My Visual C++ application is compiled with /EHA option, letting me catch structured exceptions (division by zero, access violation, etc). I then translate those exceptions to my own exception class using _set_se_translator(). My goal is to improve our logging of those types of exceptions. I can get the type of exception from the EXCEPTION_RECORD structure, and the exception address. I would like to be able to gather more information, like the source file/location where the exception is thrown, the call stack, etc. Is that possible? I do create an exception minidump on structured exceptions - is there a tool to automatically get the call stack from that?

• Identifying NHibernate proxy classes

  I'm not an NHibernate user; I write a serialization utility library. A user has logged a feature-request that I should handle NHibernate proxy classes, treating them the same as the actual type. At the moment my code is treating them as unexpected inheritance, and throwing an exception. The code won't know in advance about NHibernate (including no reference, but I'm not aftaid of reflection ;-p) Is there a robust / guaranteed way of detecting such proxy types? Apparently DataContractSerializer handles this fine, so I'm hoping it is something pretty simple. Perhaps some interface or [attribute] decoration. Also, during deserialization; at the moment I would be creating the original type (not the NHibernate type). Is this fine for persistence purposes? Or is the proxy type required? If the latter; what is required to create an instance of the proxy type?

• Characters in string changed after downloading HTML from the internet.

  Using the following code, I can download the HTML of a file from the internet: WebClient wc = new WebClient(); // .... string downloadedFile = wc.DownloadString("http://www.myurl.com/"); However, sometimes the file contains "interesting" characters like é to é, ? to ↠and ????? to フシギダãƒ. I think it may be something to do with different unicode types or something, as each character gets changed into 2 new ones, perhaps each character being split in half but I have very little knowledge in this area. What do you think is wrong?
