• Compiling GCC or Clang for thumb drive on OSX

  I have a mac book that I don't have admin rights to which I would like to be able to use either GCC or clang. Since I lack admin right I can't install binutils or a compiler to /usr directory. My plan is to install both of these (using an old macbook that I do have admin rights for) to a flash drive and then run the compiler off of there. How would one go building gcc or clang so that it could run just off of a thumb drive? I've tried both but haven't had any success. I've tried doing it defining as many of the directories as possible through configure, but haven't been able to successfully build. Here's my situation and assumptions: 1) Assuming my Tornado project is set up as such: project/ src/ static/ templates/ project.py And I have installed Tornado by downloading the repositary from Github and than sudo python setup.py install 2) I've installed Nginx and started it based on the instructions here : http://library.linode.com/web-servers/nginx/installation/ubuntu-10.04-lucid My questions are: Where does my nginx configuration file go ? Within the src/ folder? After configuring Nginx, how do I start my Tornado project?

• Best solution for getting referral information in PHP

  I am currently redoing some link structuring on a website. In the past we have used specific php files on the last step to direct the user to the proper place. Example: www.mysite.com/action/go-to-blue.php or www.mysite.com/action/short/go-to-red.php www.mysite.com/action/tall/go-to-red.php We are now restructuring to eliminate the /short/ or /tall/ directory. What this means is now "go-to-blue.php" will be doing some extra processing to make sure it sends the visitor to the proper place. The static method of the past was quite effective, because, well, if they left from that page we knew we had it right. Now since we are 301 redirecting action/short/go-to-red.php to just action/go-to-red.php it is quite important on "go-to-red.php" that we realize a user may have been redirected from /short/ or /tall/. So right now I am using HTTP_REFERRER and of course in my testing that works fine, but after a lot of reading it is clear that this is not a solid solution, so I was starting to brainstorm on other ways to check and make sure we get the proper referral information. If we could check HTTP_REFERRER plus some other test, I would feel confident we have a pretty good system in place to send the visitor to the right place. Some questions/comments: Could I use a session variable or a cookie to accomplish this goal? If so, would that be maintained through the 301 redirect? I don't see why it wouldn't be.. Passing the url in the url is not an option in this case.

  I am trying to set up my Centos Server with two NICs as a router. eth0 is connected to the outside world and eth1 is connected to an Ubuntu client. I can't even ping my server from the client: $ ping 192.168.0.10 Destination Host Unreachable

• Mac | Port Forwarding for Remote Desktop

  I have two Mac notebooks at home, I have assigned them static private IPs. I have also set my router to a DynDNS address, which updates everytime my router gets a new public IP. I have enabled Screen Sharing on both notebooks. I can successfully goto my router webpage using the DynDNS address. I understand I need to port-forward to get Screen Sharing to work from outside. Lets assume, notebooks have private IP 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 I am kind of lost here, would appreciate some help (I need to be able remote desktop to both notebooks)

• Connect to wired and wireless networks at same time, Ubuntu

  Currently, I have a media PC running Ubuntu 10.04 that I am trying to connect via a wired network cable directly to a NAS box, and wirelessly to the router. This works no problem after I run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart but I can't get both interfaces to come up on system startup. My /etc/network/interfaces file reads as follows: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 10.0.1.2 netmask 255.255.254.0 broadcast 10.0.1.255 network 10.0.1.0 auto wlan2 iface wlan2 inet dhcp As I say, I know this works, because I can get it to work by restarting the network interfaces, but I can't bring them both up on system startup. Does anyone know why this might be?

  Information and prerequisites: I have a project which is, at its core, a basic CRUD application. It doesn't have long running background processes which it forks at the beginning and talks to later on, nor does it have long running queries or kept alive connection requirements. It receives a request, makes some queries to the database and then responds. In order to serve static files and cachable files fast, I am going to use Varnish in all cases. Here is my question: After reading about various Python web application servers, I have seen that they all have their "fans" for certain, usually "personal" reasons, which got me confused since each usecase differs from the next. How can I learn about the core differentiating factors of Python web servers (in order) to decide how suitable they are for my project and if one would be better than the other? What are your (technically provable) thoughts on the matter? How should I choose a Python web server? Thank you.

• Tell browsers to cache until last modified date changes?

  My web site consists of static HTML files which are usually republished once per day, and sometimes more. I'm using Apache. In the vhost settings for my site, I'd like to tell browsers to cache HTML files indefinitely, until Apache sees that they are modified. So as soon as an HTML file is changed, Apache should immediately begin telling browsers it's changed and send the updated file. As soon as a new file is published, browsers should immediately begin receiving that...they should never receive old versions of files. Maybe ExpiresByType text/html modification and no "plus x days." Is something like this possible?

I need: Dynamic DNS Firewall + port-forwarding VPN Wake-on-LAN from outside firewall VOIP would be nice QoS would be nice (make torrents take lower priority to other services when those other services are happening) DHCP Wireless + WPA2 security Ability to play multiplayer computer games I am not a networking or computing neophyte, but the last time I messed with network gear was a few years ago, so am needing to dust off knowledge I kinda half have. I have read that I should be wanting to set up the AM200 in half-bridge mode, so that the WRT54GL gets the WAN IP - this sounds like a good idea, but I'd still like to be advised. I have read that the dd-wrt firmware will meet my needs (though I gather I'll need the vpn-specific build, which appears to preclude supporting VOIP), but I'm not wedded to using it. I live in the UK and my ISP supplies me with: a block of 8 static IPs, of which 5 are usable to me a PPPoA ADSL2+ connection

• Port Forwarding on Actiontec GT704-WG Router Issues

  I am trying to setup a server at customer's location that has the Actiontec GT704-WG DSL router. The port forwarding it not working at all. Here's the details: Server: OpenSuse Linux box with a static IP address of 192.168.1.200 Application running accepting connections on port 8060 Firewall disabled Local connections (within the network) working properly Router: Updated to latest firmware available DHCP range set to 192.168.1.69-192.168.1.199 to not have any conflicts with the server Firewall set to "off" Rule set in the "Applications" setting to forward 8060 TCP and UDP to 192.168.1.200 machine (I've tried using the "TCP,UDP" option as well as both individual options) I've also tried just simply putting the server in the DMZ to see if I could connect to anything, but still nothing. Looking for any clues before I call and waste hours explaining the issue to tech support.

• Design for object with optional and modifiable attributtes?

  I've been using the Builder pattern to create objects with a large number of attributes, where most of them are optional. But up until now, I've defined them as final, as recommended by Joshua Block and other authors, and haven't needed to change their values. I am wondering what should I do though if I need a class with a substantial number of optional but non-final (mutable) attributes? • What Should I Do? [closed]

  What is a reasonable goal in terms of traffic for my Flex 3 site: www.brainpinata.com Since I began a couple of months ago, I've gotten roughly 5500 ad views and 280 ad clicks. And the ad revenue is a whopping $4.80. (I don't use Google Adsense). I advertise my site using Google Adwords to try to build traffic. My budget is $10/day. What should I do? a) Push the marketing. Add a blog. Try to get backlinks, contact blogs, start a Facebook page, tweet, etc. b) Google is only indexing the static content in the SWF. The questions/answers are pulled from a mySQL database. So, Google doesn't index 99% of the content. Should I re-do the site in HTML/Javascript and hard-code the questions for each puzzle? (This would be a challenge as I don't know javascript worth squat.) Or should I hard-code the questions in XML and put them in the Flex app? If I put the questions in an XML file it's roughly 500 KB. Other ideas? c) Should I switch ad networks? (I currently get about 100 visitors a day). My ad network pays so little that if I were to make even $500/month, I would need 550,000 ad views/month, which seems impossible. If I go ahead and switch ad networks, I need to find one that allows iFrames as I've got a Flex website. Which ad networks permit their ads to be shown in iFrames? d) Should I cut and run?   I have a website with a number of pages that sport twitter, facebook and reddit share buttons. They take forever to load and until they do the rest of the page doesn't load. So how I can make them load last? The buttons load where ever the script code is placed. As far as I know, I can't place the script code at the bottom of the page and move the resulting buttons after the fact. I want them to appear near the top, which right now means they are stopping everything below them from loading for several seconds. I tried loading them using javascript, but using JQuery's $(document).ready(), but that failed. It seems to leave the page in some sort of loading loop from which it never emerges. Are there other ways to get these to load last?

  I'm running an Ubuntu guest OS on my Windows 7 laptop. Currently, I have it set up for bridged networking. The guest is os is configured for a static ip of 192.168.1.115, which depending on the network I'm connected to, may not be available. When I want to view my development work I hit that up in my web browser. I'm really looking for the following scenario: 1) My guest OS ip address stays constant. 2) I can access my guest os even if I don't have an internet connection, or a lan/router. 3) I can share files with my guest/host. How does one accomplish this using VMware Workstation?

The article continues on to say, "For example, a function might modify a global or static variable, modify one of its arguments, raise an exception, write data to a display or file, read data, or call other side-effecting functions...." Are all these examples, examples of 1.) - Modifiying some state , or are they also part of 2.) - Has an observable interaction with calling functions or the outside world?

Thank you everybody for your bug repots and help with the project. Version 0.4.0 Added support for ASP.NET MVC 5 Removed jQuery dependency. I have not tested it on IE8 or earlier versions. Any help with testing is welcome! Fixed problem with SSRS keep-alive cookies. Keep-alive cookies are issued every time a report is opened during a browser session. Many people don't restart their browsers and in my case, Chrome doesn't get rid of the cookie session data on close - had to manually delete them for the reports to start working again. I added KeepSessionAlive control settings to manage SSRS keep-alive behavior. It is set to false by default to fix Bad Request 400: Request Too Long issue. You can find usage example in Fluent.cshtml. Fixed the bug when ReportViewer Control parameters was not parsed when ShowParameterPrompts parameter had not been set. Changed public static MvcReportViewerIframe MvcReportViewer method to use IEnumerable<KeyValuePair<string, object>> reportParameters instead of simple object. The reason is users reported that they mostly use multiple report parameters’ values. Added support for SSRS hosted on Windows Azure. Users should set MvcReportViewer.IsAzureSSRS property to true in Web.config to use Windows Azure authentication. I do not have Windows Azure SSRS and build the code using http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg552871.aspx#Authentication article. It would be nice if somebody from community tested the change or provided me a test report on Windows Azure for testing purposes.

• Passenger, Apache and avoiding page caching

  I'm hosting a rack application with passenger and apache. The application is setup to cache the content of each request to the public directory after each request. This allows apache to serve the content directly as a static page for future requests. I would like to tell Apache, presumably through some rewrite rules that any requests with query parameters should not be cached, but instead passed down to the rack application. With a mongrel setup I would just redirect it to the balancer if it meets my rewrite conditions. How do you do the same with passenger?

Why? Because any file I create on or move to the partition is automatically marked as executable. The problem is that there is no way of changing that through nautilus. I cannot uncheck the "Allow executing file as program" option. The noexec option doesn't help, unfortunately. It only prevents nautilus from displaying the "run" or "read" dialog but doesn't change the executable flag. Is there any way I can fix this?

  I'm still possibly a little green about object-pooling, and I want to make sure something like this is a sound design pattern before really embarking upon it. So now we have a separate pool for each color, a separate produce function for each color, and a separate retire function for each color. Additionally there are several items in the game that follow this 4-color pattern, so for each of them, we have four pools, four produce functions, and four retire functions. There are more colors involved in the images themselves than just their predominant one, so trying to throw all the doors, for instance, in a single pool, and then changing their color properties around isn't going to work. • Redirect everything except the homepage

  Is there a way in nginx to redirect everything from domain1.com to domain2.com, except for the homepage? Right now I have: server { listen 80; server_name www.domain1.com domain1.com; rewrite ^ http://domain2.com$uri permanent; } This works, except that I'd like http://domain1.com (without any additional path) to be left alone and not redirected. Basically, I need to redirect everything, to avoid broken links, but I want to use the homepage of domain1 to serve a static file.

Oracle fully supports "Devoxx UK" and "Devoxx France" as a European Platinum Partner. Submit proposals and participate in both conferences since they are a two-hour train ride away from one another. The Devoxx conferences are designed “for developers by developers.” The conference committees are looking for speakers who are passionate developers unafraid to share their knowledge of Java, mobile, web and beyond. The sessions are about frameworks, tools and development with in-depth conference sessions, short practical quickies, and bird-of-a-feather discussions. Those different formats allow speakers to choose the best way to present their topics and can be mentioned during the submission process Devoxx has proven its success under Stephan Janssen, organizer of Devoxx in Belgium for the past 11 years. Devoxx has been the biggest Java conference in Europe for many years. To organize those local conferences, Stephan has enrolled the top community leaders in the UK and France. Ben Evans and Martijn Verberg are the leaders of London Java User Group (JUG) and are also known internationally for starting the Adopt-a-JSR program. Antonio Goncalves is the leader of the Paris JUG. He organized last year’s Devoxx France, which was a big success with twice the size first expected. The organizers made sure to add the local character to the conferences. "The community energy has to feel right," said Ben Evans and for that he picked an "old Victoria hall" for the venue. Those leaders are part of very dynamic Java communities in France and in the UK. France has 22 JUGs; the Paris JUG alone has 2,000 members. The UK has over 50,000 developers working in London and its surroundings; a lot of them are Java developers working in the financial industry. The conference fee is kept as low as possible to encourage those developers to attend. Devoxx promises to be crowded and sold out in advance. Make sure to submit your talks to both Devoxx UK and France before January 31st, 2013.

• Frustrated with MythTV 0.26

  I've been using MythTV for a while now. Until a hardware crash I had a 0.25 box running without problems. Had to get new hardware and am now in the process of setting up 0.26. Every time I pick a menu option, it hangs for 1 minute. Every time I try to start the backend, same thing. I pick a new theme in the frontend, but it never gets used. I try to test audio, but all I get is static (from the proper channels though). I've setup the storage groups in the backend and put a video in /storage/videos but the front end won't see it when I scan for changes. I make changes in the front end configuration and they don't get saved (or get lost randomly 2-3 reloads later). Obviously there is something I am doing catastrophically wrong, but I have no idea what. Are the storage groups not working yet? Maybe I need to delete all the storage group entries and just use the front end override to set the path? I'm currently using lvm across 3 hard disks, and this has worked well for me in the past. I'd like to use storage groups, but frankly I don't see them working yet at all - especially not for videos (which is what we watch 99% of the time). Anyone have any suggestions for me to try before I just call 0.26 bad names and wipe the system?

• NAT and ISP Subnet when load balancing on pfsense?

  I have a pfsense box that I'm trying to plan the configuration for. I am going to be load balancing two ISP's, each with their own /29 static IP subnet. The question I have is in relation to the way those IP's are associated with workstations on the local network. Currently I have some workstations with local (192.168.1.0/29) IP addresses, and other more complicated workstation setups have their own public IP address. Some of the more complicated systems have a NAT 1:1 configuration where I forward a public IP address to a local IP address. Others however are directly on the ISP subnet and cannot be seen on our local network. Is this configuration possible with pfsense? If so, what terms should I be looking through the documentation for? Here is a simple/brief diagram of what I am trying to achieve.
