BlueCoat reverse proxy NTLM authentication

Currently when we want to access an internal site from Internet (IIS with NTLM auth), we have two login screens that appear : step1 : LDAPAuth, from the BlueCoat that check login/password validity against Active Directory step2 : NTLM auth, from our application. Is it possible to configure the reverse proxy to use the LDAP credentials provided at step1, and give them to whatever application that requests them ? Of course, if those credentials aren't valid, nothing happens. We're using BlueCoat SG400. Update : we're not looking for SSO where the user doesn't have to enter a password. We want the user to enter his domain credentials in the LDAPAuth dialog box, and the proxy to reuse it to authenticate against our application. Or any application that uses NTLM. We've only got 1 AD domain behind the reverse proxy.

External microphone not working

gnome-volume-control does not recognise external hardware. My headphones work nonetheless, but an external microphone does not. External microphones used to work, but at times were temperamental - I would have to login or logout with or without microphone plugged in. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) on an mSi U100 wind notebook with one Intel soundcard and trying to use a jack microphone which has worked previously. USB microphones have also been problematic. I have done the basics: Installed upgrades. Checked nothing is muted. Looked for the device on gnome-volume-control. Tried using a different microphone that works on a friends computer. Tested my microphone works when using a different computer. Checked my soundcard can be seen (cat /proc/asound/cards). I have done more complicated things: I have tried playing around with settings in alsamixer. Nothing is muted. I can adjust "mic" and "internal mic" regardless of whether an external microphone is plugged in. I have the choice of input source from "mic", "front mic", "line" and "CD". I've played around changing this and it hasn't helped. I only have one CAPTURE option. In gnome-sound-recorder I have the choice of line, microphone 1 and microphone 2. I have played around changing this option. None of these pick up sound from the external microphone. Microphone 2 is the microphone on my laptop which is bad quality. In gnome-sound-recorder I have the choice of different profiles, and changing this has not helped either. I have looked at gstreamer-properties but none of that seemed helpful. I don't know if there a way to check if these external devices are being picked up. I would like to make an external microphone work. Please help!

Intel VT-x disappeared after upgrading to Windows 8

I've upgraded to Windows 8 some weeks ago (MSDNAA!) and today, while I was trying to run a VM, I've noticed that VT-x is disabled. Now, Hyper-V works without problems, as I've tried emulating Win7 and WP8; but VirtualBox says that VT-x is disabled and it can't run my VM. Just to double check, I've run Securable by GRC and the Intel utility and both says that I've got VT-x off. Here comes the problem: VT-x is ON in my BIOS, and it worked flawlessly before upgrading to Windows 8! Any kind of suggestion? EDIT: My CPU supports VT-x: http://ark.intel.com/products/52219

Linux clients and Windows Servers can connect but not windows clients

This is driving me insane because I can't make head or tails of it. We have two DCs (W2K3 SP1) and I'v tried this once on each machine as a sanity check. DHCP is being served by either one of the machines and all machines get an address no problem. The servers can connect/ping/browse to the www and so can all our linux clients. But NONE of our windows clients (all windows 7). I can do anything within the network, I can even ping the firewall/router but nothing from the windows clients is leaving the confines of our subnet. I don't get it. The linux and windows clients are both served from the same DHCP server, the gateway is the same, everything is the same. Anyone care to take a shot at how to resolve this? I tried adding explicit routes at the clients, but still no go. TIA SMIM

Ubuntu one, music streaming

I'm running Ubuntu 11.10, and just signed up for Ubuntu One and Ubuntu One Music. Generally file sync is working fine, but music has been a complete failure so far. Here's what I'm looking at: After 24 hours, not a single mp3 or ogg file from my laptop has sync'd to the Cloud Music folder. I have 4 gigs of data used, which is definitely not enough to include music files. That's about the right amount for my docs and photos. With music, it should be more like 13 gigs. No music shows up on the Ubuntu One Music app on my phone, nor on the web view of my Ubuntu One Cloud folder I followed all the online instructions I could find. Basically, on my laptop, right click on the Music folder and select "Ubuntu One Synchronize this folder" The Music folder now has a green check mark on it indicating its sync'd The Ubuntu One app on my laptop says "File Sync is up to date" I did provide credit card information, and on the Ubuntu One website "Music Streaming" is listed as one of my services. So what am I doing wrong? Just read this post as I'm experiencing the same problem, the answer for this post says that due to the large number of files trying to be uploaded, that it could take up to a week. However I am, as above also being told that "File sync is up to date" Can somebody confirm that this is a bug and that I just need to wait for File sync to actually be up to date? Cheers

List SQL Server Instances using the Registry

I read this interesting article on using PowerShell and the registry, and thought I would modify his information a bit to list the SQL Server Instances on a box. The interesting thing about listing instances this was is that you can touch remote machines, find the instances when they are off and so on. Java Champion Jorge Vargas on Extreme Programming, Geolocalization, and Latin American Programmers

In a new interview, up on otn/java, titled “An Interview with Java Champion Jorge Vargas,” Jorge Vargas, a leading Mexican developer, discusses the process of introducing companies to Enterprise JavaBeans through the application of Extreme Programming. Among other things, he gives workshops about building code with agile techniques and creates a master project to build all apps based on Scrum, XP methods and Kanban. He focuses on building core components such as security, login, and menus. Dynamic Forms: Pattern or AntiPattern?

I'm sure you've seen it. The database has a bunch of tables called Forms, Controls,FormsControls, ControlSets, Actions and the program that queries these tables has a dynamically generated user interface. It will read all the forms, load a home page that has links to them all, or embed them in some tabbed or paged home page, and for each of those forms it will read the various text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, submit buttons, combo boxes, labels and whatnot from the controls and form-to-control join tables, lay those elements out according to the database and link all the controls to logic according to other rules in the database. To me, this is an anti-pattern. It actually make the application more difficult to maintain because the design of it is now spread out into multiple different systems. Also, the database is not source controlled. Sure, it may make one or two changes go more quickly, after you've analyzed the program anyway to understand how to change the data and as long as you don't stray from the sort of changes that were anticipated and accounted for, but that's often just not sustainable. What say you?

Oracle Enterprise Manager Logs

Hi, I'm attempting to investigate the root cause of the following error which occurs each time a users call an Oracle 10g Forms applet: FRM-92102: A network error has occurred. The Forms Client has attempted to reestablish its connection to the Server 1 time(s) without success. Please check the network connection and try again later. Details... Java Exception: java.io.IOException: Connection failure with 503 This error remained after restarting all my system components: HTTP_Server, OC4J_BI_Forms, Web Cache, Reports Server, etc. The only way to clear this issue was to restart the server entirely. During the downtime, web pages were rendered with the PL/SQL cartridge and being served, so it appears as though this was isolated to forms. Does anybody know which log files may provide clues here? Any help would be much appreciated :) Update: If somebody can provide me with a way or reference to increase the capacity of my web server to minimize these errors, I will accept this as the solution.

VPN authentication and MAC addresses

I have to set up a VPN (various clients connecting to a web service on a server, which is also the VPN server) and I want to make sure that no user will share his/her credentials with third parties. I know that this problem is not solvable completely, but I'd want to set up some additional security checks... Some idea I have: 1) An additional check on MAC address, but... are MAC addresses preserved thru VPN? 2) Some kind of extra identification of the client (User Agent, open ports, I want to make sure that is the very same client I authorized). 3) I would like to avoid commercial solutions like a security token... I realize it would be the perfect solution, but it will be to expensive, I suppose... Do you feel that these options are viable? Do you have any other ideas? Thanks in advance for your replies!

Setting up a laptop hard drive as a secondary on a tower?

I'm trying to install Windows 8 for a friend who has recently bricked a laptop hard drive. The new one is OEM so there is no OS - I need to be able to stick it in to my tower and load the new OS on it. Both bricked and replacement laptop hard drives are SATA and connect to my mobo just like any other. After I post this I'm going to check the BIOS and see if it shows up, but so far I don't have it showing up in Disk Management. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Manual Duplex printing for Mac (and/or Linux)

My printers don't support automatic duplex printing. I'm looking for a solution for my Mac and Linux computers that I've seen with most Windows printer drivers: Check "Manual duplex" in the printer screen Printer starts printing one side A dialog appears, asking me to flip the pages Printer prints the other side. One thing I can do, is print odd pages, then reopen the dialog and print even pages, but this is very inconvenient, especially when I only want to print a certain page range of the document as the Mac dialog forgets my previous page range every time. It gets even more inconvenient, when printing 2-up double sided, or when changing additional settings for this one printout. Is there maybe some tool, that can do this? Or maybe a "virtual printer driver" that can sit somewhere between the dialog and the actual printer driver, which manages these steps? (The Windows tool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinePrint can do something like that, but I don't need all of its features - and I need it on Mac/Linux) Thanks, Chris

"Couldn't resolve host" for any external content

On our site we run a few different scripts for various sites (uploading to amazon s3, data from chartbeat, script to count twitter followers) and all of them just stop working from time to time. They work most days, but then some days (like today) they all just stop working. This simple script to get follower count into PHP $url = "http://twitter.com/users/show/username"; $response = file_get_contents ( $url ); $t_profile = new SimpleXMLElement ( $response ); $count = $t_profile->followers_count; Just sits there for a couple minutes, then finally spits out an error that says "Couldn't resolve host". Any script we use for an external site gives us this error. I'm not really sure where to check what's blocking these connections all of a sudden, and why it seems to work most times, then doesn't for a day or so, then works again. Any tips? Different block sizes for partition and underlying logical disk on HP Raid Controller (Linux)

Following links collected in this thread I started to check blockdev and found the following output indicating different sizes for partition c0d9p1 and the underlying device (c0d9): [root@machine ~]# blockdev --report /dev/cciss/c0d9 RO RA SSZ BSZ StartSec Size Device rw 256 512 4096 0 3906963632 /dev/cciss/c0d9 [root@machine ~]# blockdev --report /dev/cciss/c0d9p1 RO RA SSZ BSZ StartSec Size Device rw 256 512 2048 1 3906959039 /dev/cciss/c0d9p1 We have a lot of small files, so yes the block size is smaller than normal. The device is a logical driver on an HP P410 raid controller, simple disk without any raid - RAID 0 on one disk to be precise. (Please note that above configuration is a feature not a bug). Therefore, I have the following questions. Can the above discrepancy in the block size affect disk performance? Can I control the block size using hpacucli?

That is why I found the topic of this session interesting. When I found out that the speaker, Francis Cheung, was from the Patterns and Practices group I knew I was in the right place. I have admired that team since I first met Ron Jacobs around 2001. So what did Francis have to offer? He started off in a rather confusing who’s on first fashion. It seems that one of his tester was originally supposed to give the talk, but then it was decided that it would be better to have someone who does development present a testing topic. This didn’t hinder the content of the talk in the least. He broke the process down in a logical manner that would be straight forward to understand if not implement. Francis hit the main areas we usually think of such as tombstoning, network connectivity and asynchronous code, but he approached them with tools they we may not have thought of until now. He relied heavily on Fiddler to intercept and change the behavior of network requests. Then there are the areas you might not normal think to check. This includes localization, accessibility and updating client code to a new version. Ubuntu Desktop Environments, No Internet Access

Windows has been a pain, so I installed Ubuntu 13.10 on my parent's HP Pavilion first with Cinnamon. For the first few days, it worked wonderfully, and then stopped connecting to the internet. I tried using the windows partition and it worked fine. Posted a question about this - no answer yet. Since then, something happened while my parents were using it. The Windows partition was completely erased. I reinstalled Ubuntu and the Cinnamon desktop. Worked great for a day, then same connectivity issue. Since Ubuntu works fine on my netbook without Cinnamon, I thought perhaps this was a Cinnamon issue. Removed Cinnamon and installed LXDE. LXDE, much like Cinnamon, worked well. Then I rebooted and couldn't connect to the internet. I encountered the same issue when using KDE. I would personally like something with a bottom panel as my parents are familiar and comfortable with Windows and can barely use their cell - phones so I do not think Unity will work too well for them. Ubuntu with Unity seems to be the only way to access the internet. My parents mostly use the internet to check email/facebook/watch video. Anyone know how to fix this?

archiva/jetty with nginx ssl proxy: getting http responses

I've been banging my head against this for awhile now. I have an archiva repository server I'm trying to proxy through nginx with ssl offloading. archiva has a jetty server built in that is listening on port 8008 of the localhost. I'm able to get to the archiva server through the proxy, but it wants to return http responses and not https responses. I thought that setting the following headers was supposed to tell the server to respond with https: proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-Proto https; proxy_redirect off; I also tried "proxy_redirect default;". It seems that the jetty/archiva server is not recognizing these or there needs to be something more. I've been scouring forums and as far as I can tell, everything is set as it should be. I'm not sure where else to check at this point. Has anyone had any success with this?

Powershell (sqlps) lastbackupdate not changing despite having run a sqlserver backup

I'm using Powershell to check last backup times across all our sqlserver databases. Aspell version: $ aspell -v @(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell 0.60.6) Dump dict yields no results: $ aspell dump dicts First noticed the problem when I did this, was originally working on web server, but someone updated something and it hasn't worked since: $ aspell check temp_test_file.txt Error: No word lists can be found for the language "en_US". What's the proper way of installing the required dictionaries? I believe we're running this on CentOS. And also, /usr/lib/aspell-0.60 does not contain the required dictionaries (provided that they're supposed to be saved there). data-dir: /usr/lib/aspell-0.60

I'm looking for a way to reduce the amount of typing I do to check mysql entries and other things. For example, I wanted to create a .bat file that will execute the following commands. mysql -u user -p *enter in the password* USE databasename SELCT * FROM table; The problem is after the initial mysql -u user -p the rest of the commands written down do not get executed. Is it possible to continue running commands after calling something like mysql or other programs, that seem to add its prefix(?) to the beginning of commands (mysql). I'm not very familiar with the terminology so forgive me if it sounds confusing. I'd like to use the same kind of concept for other things as well. Help is much appreciated, Thanks.
