• Overriding windows authentication for a .NET application

  I have a .NET application where the homepage (default.aspx) should be accessible by anyone. There is also a reporting page (reporting.aspx) that I want to secure via windows authentication and only allow access to a particular set of AD groups. Right now the way my web.config is setup it is securing the reporting page but on the home page it prompts the user for login credentials. If they hit esc they can continue to the page though so it isnt actually securing it. I need to prevent it from prompting the user. How do i need to setup my config. • python: how to design a container with elements that must reference their container

  (the title is admittedly not that great. Please forgive my English, this is the best I could think of) I'm writing a python script that will manage email domains and their accounts, and I'm also a newby at OOP design. My two (related?) issues are: the Domain class must do special work to add and remove accounts, like adding/removing them to the underlying implementation how to manage operations on accounts that must go through their container To solve the former issue I'd add a factory method to the Domain class that'll build an Account instance in that domain, and a 'remove' (anti-factory?) method to handle deletions. For the latter this seems to me "anti-oop" since what would logically be an operation on an Account (eg, change password) must always reference the containing Domain. Seems to me that I must add to the Account a reference back to the Domain and use that to get data (like the domain name) or call methods on the Domain class.   Hello, With Android-Emulator I am not able to write/create a file on the SD Card (for logging).   I have a WCF service which can run as Console App and a Windows Service. I have exactly the same code, but running in a windows service and I get the following error when I try to call any of the methods from a client: System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException was unhandled Message="An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. I'm assuming that it has something to do with acces to system resources from the Windows Service. I've tried running it under the same account as the console app, but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

  I have one bit of denormalized data used for performance reasons and I'm trying to maintain the data with an NHibernate event listener rather than a trigger. I'm not convinced this is the best approach, but I'm neck deep into it and I want to figure this out before moving on. • Converting VS2008 Solution to VS2010 Creates compile errors in ASP.NET 3.5 SP1

  I am converting a large solution from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. The conversion completes without errors. When I go to build the solution one particular section of the application throws error but it didn't when the solution was 2008. Error 1 Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. C:\MyProject\Results\Result.ascx 3 And C:\CMyProject\Results\Result.ascx(3): Build (web): Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.DataVisualization, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. The dll is in the bin and it is not in the GAC. The .refresh file is pointing to the correct location. And all sections in the Web.Config are there, if you need to see them let me know. I have gone over the fixes I found online and nothing seems to help. I would really appreciate if someone could help me or point me in the right direction? Thank You.

  I am trying to build Linux From Scratch, and now I am at chapter 5.4, which tells me how to build Binutils. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Does anyone have any idea why this error happens? Why does the web service run fine inside Visual Studio 2008, but not when running stand-alone?   Hello, I have an abstract class named Xpto and two subclasses that extend it named Person and Car. I have also a class named Test with main() and a method foo() that verifies if two persons or cars (or any object of a class that extends Xpto) are equals. Thus, I redefined equals() in both Person and Car classes. Two persons are equal when they have the same name and two cars are equal when they have the same registration. However, when I call foo() in the Test class I always get "false". I understand why: the equals() is not redefined in Xpto abstract class. So... how can I compare two persons or cars (or any object of a class that extends Xpto) in that foo() method? • Client unable to authenticate when connecting to WCF service

  I have a WCF service hosted in a Windows service. The application is an intranet app, and I have programmatically set the bindings on both the service and the client as: NetTcpBinding aBinding = new NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.Transport); aBinding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = TcpClientCredentialType.Windows; aBinding.Security.Transport.ProtectionLevel = System.Net.Security.ProtectionLevel.EncryptAndSign; Both the service and client have endpoints configured with SPNs: EndpointAddress = new EndpointAddress(uri, EndpointIdentity.CreateSpnIdentity("Service1")); As far as I know, I have setup the bindings correctly-- and I am usually able to connect to the service just fine. I did however run into a case where on a server running Windows Server 2003 R2, x64, SP2 I get the following exception immediately when the client tries to connect: INNEREXCEPTION -- Exception Message: InvalidCredentialException: Either the target name is incorrect or the server has rejected the client credentials. Stack Trace: at System.Net.Security.NegoState.ProcessAuthentication(LazyAsyncResult lazyResult) at System.Net.Security.NegotiateStream.AuthenticateAsClient(NetworkCredential credential, String targetName, ProtectionLevel requiredProtectionLevel, TokenImpersonationLevel allowedImpersonationLevel) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.WindowsStreamSecurityUpgradeProvider.WindowsStreamSecurityUpgradeInitiator.OnInitiateUpgrade(Stream stream, SecurityMessageProperty& remoteSecurity) I get the exception when I try to connect to the service from another machine in the domain, but if I connect to the service on the same machine running the service it works fine. The hosting service itself is running as a domain user account-- but I have tried running the service as a Local System and Network Service to no avail. I have checked the Local Security Policies for the server and didn't see anything amiss (i.e. 'Access this computer from the network' includes 'Everyone'). Anyone have an idea of what could resolve this? I am wondering if I need to do something in Active Directory with respect to the service's SPN? I have read some about using setspn.exe to register or refresh SPNs, but I haven't needed to do this before. Why would this be working with other configurations but not the one above?

• Run a .java file using ProcessBuilder

  I'm a novice programmer working in Eclipse, and I need to get multiple processes running (this is going to be a simulation of a multi-computer system). My initial hackup used multiple threads to multiple classes, but now I'm trying to replace the threads with processes. From my reading, I've gleaned that ProcessBuilder is the way to go. I have tried many many versions of the input you see below, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to properly use it. I am trying to run the .java files I previously created as classes (which I have modified). I eventually just made a dummy test.java to make sure my process is working properly - its only function is to print that it ran. My code for the two files are below. Am I using ProcessBuilder correctly? Is this the correct way to read the output of my subprocess? Any help would be much appreciated. • Windows Media Encoder object not created in ASP.NET on MS Server 2003 64 bit

  Hello, I created (and used) a Windows Media Encoder object in Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition on MS Server 2003 64 bit. This worked fine. However, when I attempted to create the equivalent Windows Media Encoder object using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 on MS Server 2003 64 bit, the following exception was thrown: "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {632B606A-BBC6-11D2-A329-006097C4E476} failed due to the following error: 80040154." It cannot be that the component isn’t registered, because both have a reference to the same WMEncEng.dll file. The Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 code also worked fine on XP 32 bit. Could it be a problem with permissions? Regardless, anyone have any ideas why this problem is occurring and, more importantly, how to resolve it? Thank you. • httpClient proxy support in apache commons 3.1

  I am using apache commons 3.1 to implement httpClient with proxy support. I am trying to connect to a remote host through proxy. The proxy server is configured without any authentication, however the the remote host is configured with authentication. When I am passing the proxy parameters through properties file, it gives warning while execution: WARN - Required proxy credentials not available for BASIC @xx.xx.xx.xx WARN - Preemptive authentication requested but no default proxy credentials availble But the execution goes ahead. On the other hand when I am passing the proxy parameters through the JVM arguments then the again the same warning is given and the execution is stopped. Is there any specific reason for this behavior? Is there any difference in passing the proxy parameters through properties file and through JVM arg?   I am looking for a way to programmatically set the OnClick event handler for a TableCell object. The ASP equivalent of what I'm trying to do will look like this: <asp:TableCell OnClick="clickHandler" runat="server">Click Me!</asp:TableCell> In the above example, "clickHandler" is a server-side function defined in the .cs CodeBehind. public virtual void clickHandler(object sender, EventArgs args) {...} However, for my situation, this TableCell object needs to be created dynamically, so setting it in an ASP tag is not an option. I am trying to do something like the following in the CodeBehind: System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableRow row = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableRow(); System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableCell cell = new System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableCell(); cell.Text = "Click Me!"; cell.Attributes.Add("onClick", "clickHandler"); row.Cells.Add(cell); Unfortunately, in this situation: cell.Attributes.Add("onClick", "clickHandler"); the "clickHandler" only works as a client-side javascript function.   Hi I'm trying to develop a site that recommends items(fx. books) to users based on their preferences. So far, I've read O'Reilly's "Collective Intelligence" and numerous other online articles. They all, however, seem to deal with single instances of recommendation, for example if you like book A then you might like book B. What I'm trying to do is to create a set of 'preference-nodes' for each user on my site. Let's say a user likes book A,B and C. Then, when they add book D, I don't want the system to recommend other books based solely other users experience with book D. I wan't the system to look up similar 'preference-nodes' and recommend books based on that. Here's an example of 4 nodes: User1: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C' User2: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C'->'book D' user3: 'book X'->'book Y'->'book C'->'book Z' user4: 'book W'->'book Q'->'book C'->'book Z' So a recommendation system, as described in the material I've read, would recommend book Z to User 1, because there are two people who recommends Z in conjuction with liking C (ie. Z weighs more than D), even though a user with a similar 'preference-node', User2, would be more qualified to recommend book D because he has a more similar interest-pattern. So does any of you have any experience with this sort of thing? Is there some things I should try to read or does there exist any open source systems for this? Thanks for your time! Small edit: I think last.fm's algorithm is doing exactly what I my system to do. Using the preference-trees of people to recommmend music more personally to people. Instead of just saying "you might like B because you liked A"

  I'm trying to persist user settings to a configuration file using ConfigurationManager. I want to scope these settings to the user only, because application changes can't be saved on Vista/Win 7 without admin privileges. This seems to get me the user's configuration, which appears to be saved here in Win 7 ([Drive]:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\[ApplicationName]\[AssemblyName][hash]\[Version\) Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(ConfigurationUserLevel.PerUserRoamingAndLocal); Whenever I try to save any changes at all to this config I get this exception: InnerException: System.InvalidOperationException Message="ConfigurationSection properties cannot be edited when locked." Source="System.Configuration" StackTrace: at System.Configuration.SectionInformation.VerifyIsEditable() at System.Configuration.MgmtConfigurationRecord.GetConfigDefinitionUpdates(Boolean requireUpdates, ConfigurationSaveMode saveMode, Boolean forceSaveAll, ConfigDefinitionUpdates& definitionUpdates, ArrayList& configSourceUpdates) I have tried adding a custom ConfigurationSection to this config. I have tried adding to the AppSettingsSection. Whenever I call config.Save() it throws the exception above. Any ideas? I tried using the ApplicationSettingsBase class through the Project-Settings designer, but it doesn't appear that you can save custom types with this. I want similar functionality with the ability to save custom types. Thanks.

  Hello, i would be thankful for your advice. I need to test, if an instance is exactly of a given type. But it seems that instanceof returns true also if the subtype is tested for the supertype (case 3). I never knew this before and I am quite surprised. Am I doing something wrong here?
