• Setting an empty default value for a char-column in MySQL?

  Hi In phpMyAdmin I have a char(32) column that has no default value(ie. Default: None). When I try to insert data through a SQL query, it throws out an error saying that the column "doesn't have a default value". I need it to be empty, so instead I've just set it's default value as "As defined: " and then nothing in the value field. Is this a bad idea? And is it any better than simply throwing in an empty value for the column in the SQL query? Thanks for your time.

  I have few small basic problems : How to format : int i = 456; to give output : ""00000456" ? I've tried %08d but it's not working. Next thing is a problem with conversion and then formatting. I have side and height of triangle, let's say int's 4,7, and 7 is the height. From formula for field we know that F=1/2(a*h). So how to get F as float, with precision up to 10 places ? float f = a*h; works fine, but multiplying it by 0.5 gives error and by 1/2 returns 0.

  I am trying to implement a regular expression to allow only one or two digits after a hyphen '-' and it doesn't work properly. • Django GenericRelation doesn't save related object's id - is this a bug or am I doing it wrong?

  I have a model with a generic relation (call it A), when creating an instance of this object I pass an instance of another model (call it B) as the initializer of the content_object field (via kwargs of the constructor). If I don't save B before creating A then when saving A the content_object_id is saved to the db as NULL. If I save B before passing it to the constructor of A then everything's allright. It's not logical. I assumed that the ID of the related object (B) is fetched when doing A.save() and it should throw some kind of an exception if B isn't saved yet but it just fails silently.   I've been searching google a lot for this issue and really found nothing. People just keep copying MySQL documentation on last_insert_id and nothing else. I've got an issue regarding last_insert_id, because for both situations (php & sql) it returns 0. YES: I've set a PRIMARY & UNIQUE field with AUTO_INCREMENT value YES: i've done some inserting before NO: Making double query with INSERT AND SELECT LAST... doesn't work. I've created a class Db for maintaining connection & query: class Db { public function connect() { $db = new mysqli('','','','',''); ... return $db; } public function insert() { $this->connect()->query("INSERT INTO bla bla..."); return $this->connect()->insert_id; } } And it doesn't work.

• Querying a smalldatetime's date and time seperately in SQL server?

  Imagine a table that has two fields, a smalltimedate and an int and about 1000 rows of data. What I'm attempting to do in query is to find the average of the INT field for rows between 3/3/2010 - 3/13/2010 and only if the entry is between 6:00am - 11:00pm. I tried between '2010-03-03 06:00 AND 2010-03-13 23:00' However that only restricts that very beginning and end times. I could do this with a loop but I'm going to need to have the same query run over much larger date ranges and this will quickly eat server resources. Is there a way to query date and time seperately?

  Hi all, I am currently developing an application for android. I'm not sure if this is possible but here it goes. When the user clicks and holds on a text box whether it is a website or a piece of software a menu is displayed which shows paste and input method. What I want to be able to do is add my own items to this menu and when the user clicks on my item it will load my app, they can select an item from a list view. It will then copy the contents and automatically paste it into the text field the user selected. Thanks for your help in this matter

• Android: Stopping method to be called twice if already running.

  I'm trying to prevent my application to call the same method twice in the event of a double-click, or if the user presses different buttons quickly, almost at the same time. I have clickable Views, acting as buttons, that call the same method but passing different parameters. This is the call: startTheSearch(context, getState(), what, where); Inside this method I'm creating a new Thread, because it queries a web server for the result: new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { progDiag = ProgressDialog.show(ctx, null, "Searching", true); getServerXML(context, what, where, searchIsCustom, mOffset); handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } }).start(); The problem is that upon two quick clicks, the method is fired twice, two threads are created, and consequently two new activities are created. That makes my app crash.   I've been looking for documentation on the standard behaviour for mail servers who fail to deliver their mail. I want the 'From' field to be different from the account that receives emails when there is a delivery failure. E.g. My program sends an email from '[email protected]', and on failure to deliver I want to be sent the delivery failure bounceback at '[email protected]'. Is this accomplished by setting the reply-to? Or should I login with the 'failedemails' account and therefore it will receive the email back? Thanks.

  Hi, We're about to launch a little twitter Christmas competition, and I've run into a little snag. To enter, people will need to post a tweet in the following format: @user blah, blah, blah #hashtag Currently, I have a form where they enter their answer (the blah, blah, blah) and a PHP script which encodes the entire statement and adds on the twitter url: http://www.twitter.com/home?status=%40user%20blah%2Cblah%2Cblah%20%23hashtag Then takes the user to twitter and puts the status in the update field. However, whilst the spaces (%20) are decoded fine the @ and # characters remain as %40 & %23 respectively, even when the tweet is posted. I cannot put the actual characters in the url as twitter mistakes this for a search. Is there any way to solve this? I'd like to do it without requiring username & password etc if possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Each bottom of the table (Table Footer), I have something called: "Total: " which is a sum of Total field. I called these textboxes are txtbxCurrent and txtbxProposed and the format is in currency already. This thing is running well. But now I need to get a total of these txtbxCurrent and txtbxProposed. How do I do this? Can I take the value of this or not? BTW .. • Dismissing the keyboard in a UIScrollView

  Alright, I have a couple of UITextFields and UITextViews inside a UIScrollView, and I'd like to set the keyboard to disappear whenever the scrollview is touched or scrolled (except when you touch down inside the text field/view, of course). My current attempt at doing this is replacing the UIScrollView with a subclass, and setting it to call a removeKeyboard function (defined inside the main view controller) inside the touchesBegan method. However, this only removes the keyboard for a normal touch, not when the view is simply scrolled. So, what's the best way to remove the keyboard inside a UIScrollView? I am interested in a MS - Software Engineering program designed for individuals based from another field. Is this a wise degree to obtain? • How to insert large files in mysql database using php? [closed]

  Hi! I want to upload a large file of size 10M max to my mysql database. Using .htaccess i changed the PHP's own file upload limit to "10485760" = 10M, i am able to upload files upto 10M size without any problem. But i can not insert the file in database if it is more that 1M in size. i am using file_get_contents to read all file data and pass it to the insert query as a string to be inserted into a LONGBLOB field. But files with more than 1M size is not being added to database, though i can use print_r($_FILES) to examine that the file uploaded correctly. Any help will be appreciated and i will need it within next 6 hours. • body onload cache not clearing

  I'm using an image swapping function generated by Dreamweaver to allow an image to change when moused over. The images are small. I have a problem because the images are getting stored in cache and without clearing it out I cant get the new images to show. It works on some browsers, but unfortunately not on all... I've read about putting "a random query" into the javascript to force the page to reload, but I dont know where to put it (the code was generated for me by dreamweaver). Smart Search was enabled by default and now I've got a few "finder" tables full of indexed phrases and therms. I wonder if there are any disadvantages if I'd: Disable the Smart Search plugin Remove these 'finder' tables completely Aha, we're using a Search field, which works fine, but I'm not sure what's going to happen if I disable the plugin and remove these tables. Will it then search for phrases in content Joomla tables or simply break w/o missing 'finder' tables Has anyone tried this before?

• Problem with Nulls and an UPDATE statement

  UPDATE TableA SET Value = a.Value * b.AnotherValue FROM TableA AS a INNER JOIN TableB AS b WHERE (Condition is true); Here is the problem. The Value field for TableA does not allow nulls. If the calculation of a.Value * b.AnotherValue yields a null, an error is thrown. Now the question. Is there any way to tell the UPDATE to ignore the SET phase when the result of the calculation is a null and delete the record rather than updating it. This UPDATE is intended to update hundreds of records at a time but will fail if a single null is encountered. Also, please note that using the ISNULL() function and setting the Value to zero is not acceptable. I would like the record to be dropped if a null is encountered. I have a general understanding of how a web farm works, I'm a web developer and I understand the technology behind it, but I'm curious to know specifically how a web farm is set up and which professionals are involved. Things to consider probably are the hardware, the power supply, the software managment, the cooling system and if possible the usage of green technology/power recycling. Basically, can you explain me how a web hosting company is structured and how it works? A big question, I know, but from what I already read here about the subject a lot of you know this stuff. • Given a user control with a form containing validation can I validate entirely server side?

  We have an existing User Control that was built to dynamically generate a web form for an end user. This form includes required field validators, custom validators that use server side code and Regular Expression validatiors. We now have a need to use all these validators to verify that all the needed data is entered when using a separate ordering process that cannot be validated in the same way, but has the same validation requirements before it is added to the database. I would like to use this user control to validate the input by passing it all the values and checking the validation summary. The only way I know how to do this is to render it to a page on the client side and trigger the form submit. Is there any way to populate and validate a web form entirely on the server side?

  I am attempting to persist objects that contain some large Serializable types. I want Hibernate to automatically generate my DDL (using Hibernate annotations). For the most part, this works, but the default database column type used by Hibernate when persisting these types is tinyblob. Unfortunately, this causes crashes when attempting to persist my class, because these types will not fit within the length of tinyblob. However, if I manually set the type (using @Column(columnDefinition="longblob")), it works fine. Is there any way to make the default binary type longblob instead of tinyblob, so that I don't need to manually specify the @Column annotation on each field?

• Javascript adding two numbers incorrectly

  Global.alert("base: " + base + ", upfront: " + upfront + ", both: " + (base + upfront)); This code above outputs this: base: 15000, upfront: 36, both: 1500036 Why is it joining the two numbers instead of adding them up? I eventually want to set the value of another field to this amount using this: mainPanel.feesPanel.initialLoanAmount.setValue(Ext.util.Format.number((base + upfront), '$0,000.00')); ...and when I try that now it turns the number into the millions instead of 15,036.00. I have no idea why. Any ideas?
