  • Django form to enter/save html to database

    - by Ian
I'm in my first week of Django development and am working on an admin page that will let me write some quick html using TinyMCE and then save it to the database. I don't need to display this web page on the site or add it to urls.py, etc. The html snippet will be loaded from the database and used in a view function. I've read in "Practical Django Projects" how to integrate TinyMCE, so my question is more concerned with the best approach for the form itself. Specifically: 1. Is there a built-in form like flatpage that works well for this? I only need one field in the form for the html. 2. How do I save the form's text after it's entered? I created a model with a JSONField to save the html in, but I'm not clear on what to do next. Thanks.

  • Database system that is not relational.

    - by paan
What are the other types of database systems out there. I've recently came across couchDB that handles data in a non relational way. It got me thinking about what other models are other people is using. So, I want to know what other types of data model is out there. (I'm not looking for any specifics, just want to look at how other people are handling data storage, my interest are purely academic) The ones I already know are: RDBMS (mysql, postgres etc..) Document based approach (couchDB, lotus notes) Key/value pair (BerkeleyDB)

  • Can't use static const as param in function call within binding tags in Flex 3

    - by buzzer
I'm having a problem in flex 3 where if a static const I have defined is used as the parameter to a function call within binding tags I get a "1120: Access of undefined property NodePropertyMatrix". _propMtx is a ArrayCollection. <mx:HBox visible="{_propMtx.getItemAt(NodePropertyMatrix.srcParent)}"> Above code throws the error, but the following code does not <mx:HBox visible="{NodePropertyMatrix.srcParent}"> NodePropertyMatrix is an AS class as follows: package model.constants { import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; public class NodePropertyMatrix { public static const srcParent:Number = 0; } } Anyone know what is wrong here?

  • ASP.NET MVC and Paging - Search & Result Scenario

    - by devforall
I have forms in my page a get and a post and i want add pager on my get form .. so i cant page through the results.. The problem that i am having is when i move to the second page it does not display anything.. I am using this library for paging .. http://stephenwalther.com/Blog/archive/2008/09/18/asp-net-mvc-tip-44-create-a-pager-html-helper.aspx this my actions code. [AcceptVerbs("GET")] public ActionResult SearchByAttraction() { return View(); } [AcceptVerbs("POST")] public ActionResult SearchByAttraction(int? id, FormCollection form) {.... } and this is what i am using on my get form to page through <%= Html.Pager(ViewData.Model)% //but when i do this it goes to this method [AcceptVerbs("GET")] public ActionResult SearchByAttraction() instead of going to this this [AcceptVerbs("POST")] public ActionResult SearchByAttraction(int? id, FormCollection form) which sort of makes sence .. but i cant really think of any other way of doing this Any help would be very appreciated.. Thanx

  • why is link generated in YUI javascript failing to render in rails?

    - by pmneve
Using YAHOO.widget.treeview to generate a table with three levels of data: module, submodule, and detail. If there is an image associated with a detail row the javascript generates a link: "<td><a href=\"/screenshot/show/" + rowData.id + "\">Screenshot</a></td>" that is appended to the html for the row. The url is generated correctly and the link appears. When clicked nothing happens except the word 'Done' appears in the browser status bar. Am calling the very same url from another page that does not use javascript and the screenshot page appears as expected. Here is the controller. class ScreenshotController < ApplicationController def show if @detail.screen_path.length 1 @imagePath = "#{RAILS_ROOT}" + "/private/#{Company.find(@detail.company_id).subdir}/" + "#{Project.find(@detail.project_id).subdir}/screenshot/" + "#{@detail.screen_path}" send_file ( @imagePath, :type = 'image/jpeg', :disposition = 'inline') end end end A sample url: http://localhost:3004/screenshot/show/20854 This code from show.html.erb belonging to the detail model works: <%= link_to 'View', :controller = 'screenshot', :id = @detail.id, :action = 'show' % Any ideas???

  • Can't update rows in my database using Entity Framework...?

    - by Dissonant
Okay, this is really weird. I made a simple database with a single table, Customer, which has a single column, Name. From the database I auto-generated an ADO.NET Entity Data Model, and I'm trying to add a new Customer to it like so: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace Test { class Program { static void Main() { Database1Entities db = new Database1Entities(); Customer c = new Customer(); c.Name = "Harry"; db.AddToCustomer(c); db.SaveChanges(); } } } But it doesn't persist Customer "Harry" to the database! I've been scratching my head for a while now wondering why such a simple operation doesn't work. What on earth could be the problem!?

  • Validating primitive types in ASP.NET MVC

    - by Alex
I've implemented the following classes to validate data public abstract class Validated { public bool IsValid { get { return (GetRuleViolations().Count() == 0); } } public abstract IEnumerable<RuleViolation> GetRuleViolations(); } public partial class User: Validated { public override IEnumerable<RuleViolation> GetRuleViolations() { if (this.Age < 1) yield return new RuleViolation("Age can't be less than 1"); } } It works great! When the form is submitted I just do if (user.IsValid == false) blah... But I still need to validate that the Age is an integer int a = 0; if (!int.TryParse(age, out a)) { error = "Not integer"; // ... } How can I move this to my model?

  • How will ASP.NET AJAX be licensed?

    - by hbb
It would be very useful if somebody could indicate what the plans are for releasing and licensing the AJAX extensions. The EULA for Beta 2 states that the software may be used for development and for web site deployment only. Redistribution is explicitly forbidden. Does that imply that it is going to be released under terms different from the .NET framework and ASP.NET or is it just a precaution to prevent developers shipping the Beta? It seems too risky to include AJAX in new products before there is some indication what the model is going to be....

  • Searching and comparing ActiveRecord attributes to find largest value

    - by NS
    I have a model that would look something like: my_diet = Diet.new my_diet.food_type_1 = "beef" my_diet.food_type_1_percentage = 40 my_diet.food_type_2 = "carrots" my_diet.food_type_2_percentage = 50 my_diet.food_type_3 = "beans" my_diet.food_type_3_percentage = 5 my_diet.food_type_4 = "chicken" my_diet.food_type_4_percentage = 5 I need to find which food_type has the highest percentage. So far I've tried creating a hash out of the attibutes and percentages then sorting the hash (see below) but it feels like there must be a cleaner way to do it. food_type_percentages = { :food_type_1 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_1_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_1_percentage, :food_type_2 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_2_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_2_percentage, :food_type_3 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_3_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_3_percentage, :food_type_4 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_4_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_4_percentage } food_type_percentages.sort {|a,b| a[1]<=>b[1]}.last Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Network ActiveRecord relation with Rails

    - by Zag zag..
Hi, I have a has and belongs to many relation between User and Article models, and I would like to link them even if an article if not hosted on the same database then a user. For example, If an article exists at foo.com/articles/3 and a user exists at bar.com/users/1, If would like to be able to do from foo.com web interface or bar.com web interface this kind of query: a_user.articles (or an_article.users). I think this can be possible adding a field like "url" in users and articles tables. But I don't know how to process for ActiveRecord. My Article model looks like this: class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :users end Is there yet some example of project using this kind of relation over internet? Many thanks

  • How can I bind an Enum to a DbType of bit or int?

    - by uriDium
Hi I am using Linq2Sql and want to bind an objects field (which is enum) to either a bit or a int type in the database. For example I want have a gender field in my model. I have already edited the DBML and changed the Type to point to my enum. I want to create Radio buttons (which I think I have figured out) for gender and dropdown lists for other areas using the same idea. My enum looks like this public enum Gender { Male, Female } Mapping between DbType 'int' and Type 'Project.Models.Gender' in Column 'Gender' of Type 'Candidate' is not supported. Any ideas on how to do this mapping. Am I missing something on the enums.

  • Cakephp: Designpattern for creation of models in hasMany relationship

    - by Chris
I have two Models: Car and Passenger. Car hasMany Passenger Passenger belongsTo Car I managed to create add functionailty for each model and managed to resolve the hasMany relationship between them. Now I'm trying to create a addCar function and view that allows the user to create a new car and automatically generate Passengers. I thought of something like this The view asks the user enter the car information The view has some field that allows to temporarly add new passengers and remove remove them When the user saves the new car, the entities for the passengers are created, the entity for the car is created and the passengers are linked to the car. If the user decides to cacnel everything, the DB remains unchanged. Now my question is: What is the best way to do this? Is there a pattern / tutorial to follow for such a entity and associated subentity creation? To clarify: The passengers associated with each car do not exist prior to the existence of the car.

  • Crystal Reports XSD file required?

    - by user270370
Hi, I am trying to create a new report using the PUSH MODEL to supply data. I am creating a DataTable in my C# code and pushing this to a report using a template. I have created a report template and an XSD (using DataSet.WriteXmlSchema) and added this to my report using the Database Expert option. I have since deleted the xsd schema but the report still seems to be working. I was wondering why this was happening. Is the xsd file stored in the report? Thanks a lot. Ravi

  • Dynamic proxies to auto-save models

    - by atomman
I'm trying to make some auto-magic happen in java using proxies to track objects and saving them when a set* method is called. I started of using java's built in Proxy, and everything works just fine, but from what I can understand I need a interface for every model, which is something that I'm trying to avoid. This is where CGLIB comes in, it allows me to create proxies of my models without the use of interfaces. BUT, how can I now retrieve the original object, the one I am trying to save? The optimal solution to be would be something like the EntityManager interface used by hibernate, where you keep your original object, but it is still tracked.

  • Pre loaded database on iPhone?

    - by Julian
Hi, I have recently developed an app using core data as the storage db. The app allowed the user to read and write to the db. I am now developing a new app which the user doesnt need to write anything to the db, instead the app just needs to read the data. The data has relationships etc so cannot just use a plist or something similar. My question is should I use core data for such a requirement and if so how would i go about entering the data and then releasing the app. Would I have to code the data entry which would populate the db then remove all this code (as I dont want the database to repopulate every time the user opens the app)?? Is there a way to create a core data model using sql commands as with sqlite ie insert into..... etc? Any ideas/thoughts would be very helpful. Many thanks Jules

  • Given a short (2-week) sprint, is it ever acceptable to forgo TDD to "get things done"?

    - by Ben Aston
Given a short sprint, is it ever acceptable to forgo TDD to "get things done" within the sprint. For example a given piece of work might need say 1/3 of the sprint to design the object model around an existing implementation. Under this scenario you might well end up with implemented code, say half way through the sprint, without any tests (implementing unit tests during this "design" stage would add significant effort and the tests would likely be thrown away a few times until the final "design" is settled upon). You might then spend a day or two in the second week adding in unit / integration tests after the fact. Is this acceptable?

  • Searching in Rails 3

    - by cbarton
Here is the situation: I have the need to search for specifics or generals, much like expedia.com or your local library catalog search. In that there are fields that may or may not be filled out based on the individual need. It acts much like an "advanced search page". I have all of that code done for the models/controller and such and have it setup with a Searches controller along with matching model and views. The question that I have is there a way to cut down the amount of parameters posted to GET so that the url isn't search?search[:a]=""+search[:b]=""+search[:c]="x"... plus the unicode checkmark. I only want the filled out fields to be shown in the response link especially minus the checkmark. cbarton

  • FileInputStream and FileOutputStream to the same file: Is a read() guaranteed to see all write()s that "happened before"?

    - by user946850
I am using a file as a cache for big data. One thread writes to it sequentially, another thread reads it sequentially. Can I be sure that all data that has been written (by write()) in one thread can be read() from another thread, assuming a proper "happens-before" relationship in terms of the Java memory model? Is this behavior documented? EDIT: In my JDK, FileOutputSream does not override flush(), and OutputStream.flush() is empty. That's why I'm wondering... EDIT^2: The streams in question are owned exclusively by a class that I have full control of. Each stream is guaranteed to be accesses by one thread only. My tests show that it works as expected, but I'm still wondering if this is guaranteed and documented. • Reference variable to an object instantiated/initialized in another class in Java

    - by Alex
The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting NullPointerException. I now this is very easy but I'm pretty new programming and find this a bit confusing. So say I have initialized an object in a class and want to access that same object from another class. Like now for instance I'm working on a small Chess game, in my model Game class I have an instance of Board, an object. Board, in turn, has an array of Squares. Square[][]. Game has board, board has Square[][]. Now if I want to access the Square[][] through the object board (in Game) of type Board. Do I just declare a variable with the same name and type or do I have to initialize it again? Board board OR Board board = new Board(); Note, I have already initialized board in the class Game so if I do it again, won't they be two totally different Board objects?

  • Where to reopen a class in RoR

    - by Jeriko
I'm attempting to reopen the String class in rails and add a bunch more methods for my app to use. Writing the code isn't a problem - my question is rather about where this code should go. It doesn't make sense to me to reopen a class inside a different model file, because it really has nothing to do with any of the models specifically. I thought perhaps somewhere in config or lib would make sense, but I'm not particularly well versed with RoR yet. To summarize, where would be the most logical place to define class-modifying code?

  • Delete database. Entity Framework

    - by Idotz
I have a very annoying issue and I would love a solution. The problem: I followed the MDSN tutorial- http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-4/getting-started-with-aspnet-mvc4/adding-a-model Then I tried this guide according to my needs and I set up a database GAMES.MDF.   Then, I deleted the database and set it up again, is supposedly work (I can write and read data), but There is no such database in the APP_DATA folder. Like it keeps it somewhere in my PC and reuse it.   I even tried a new project and it did not work, works but not in the library, and it even uses the data I created before. I even deleted the DB from SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Does anyone know what the hell? How do I delete it permanently, not to remain any trace of him?   Thank you.  Ido

  • Chaining Many-To-Many Dimensional Relationships in SSAS

    - by Ray Saltrelli
I'm developing a cube in SSAS and attempting to model the following relationships: Many Facts to 1 Customer Many Customers to Many Sales Reps Many Sales Reps (Subordinates) to Sales Reps (Managers) Each M2M relationship is facilitated by a bridge table which also acts as a fact table in the cube I have most of this working. I can slice Facts by Customer and by Sales Rep (Subordinate), but when I add Sales Rep (Manager) to the query it appears to return every subordinate/manager combination regardless of whether or not that relationship exists in the bridge table. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong?

  • how to request collection of fields in mvc

i have the following foreach. Inside you'll see a text box for quantity. At the bottom of the page there is submit button. What is the best practise for saving a collection of fields like this in asp.net MVC. ie how would i get the values in my controller <% foreach(var item in Model. Results) { %> <tr class="RowStyle"> <td><input name="quantity" value="<%= item.Quantity %>" class"input-30" /></td> </tr> <% } %>

  • What are the names of network interfaces on the Motorola CLIQ XT?

    - by RS
The network interfaces on Android interfaces are listed as directories in the file system in /sys/class/net/. For most Android devices the network interface for gprs traffic is called rmnet0 and for Wi-Fi it's usually eth0 or tiwlan0. I suspect that the cell interface for the Motorola CLIQ XT is rmnet0, but I would like to have this confirmed + know the name of the Wi-Fi interface. Also it would be good to know the device id for this model. This is the value available as android.os.Build.DEVICE in the Java SDK. (E.g. T-Mobile G1 uses dream, Samsung Galaxy uses GT-I7500, and Motorolda Droid uses sholes.)

  • Is it possible to use bindModel to bind 3 different nested tables in CakePHP

    - by paullb
I have a segment which can have many comments and each comment can have many tags. I can bind the comments to the segments using code like the below which is a function in the segment model class. function prepareForGettingSegmentsWithComments() { $this->bindModel( array('hasMany' => array( 'Comment' => array( 'className' => 'Comment', 'foreignKey' => 'segmentID' ) ) ) ); } However how can I bind in the Tags as well?
