• Function not returning value at all - not a void [migrated]

• Strange WPF ListBox Behavior

  I’m trying to bind a List of items to a listbox in WPF. The items are grouped by one value and each group is to be housed in an expander. Everything works fine when I don’t use any custom styles. However, when I use custom styles (which work properly with non-grouped items and as independent controls) the binding doesn’t display any items. Below is the code I’m executing. Any ideas why the items won’t show up in the Expander? • Perl execution from command line question

  I replaced ActivePerl with Strawberry Perl on my WinXP last week. I found I must run my Perl script with the command of perl myperl.pl; otherwise I only need run myperl.pl before install Strawberry. How can I only run myperl.pl as before? I checked my environment configuration as below.   I am having trouble validating my xml schema. I get these errors on the schema 113: 18 s4s-elt-invalid-content.1: The content of '#AnonType_user' is invalid. 164: 17 s4s-elt-invalid-content.1: The content of '#AnonType_festival' is invalid. Element 'sequence' is invalid, misplaced, or occurs too often. and becuase of those 2 errors, i am getting loads of the same error. This is becuase the attribute id of the festival tag may be empty becuase there is not data for that festival cvc-datatype-valid.1.2.1: '' is not a valid value for 'integer'. cvc-attribute.3: The value '' of attribute 'id' on element 'festival' is not valid with respect to its type, 'integer'. • Quartz Thread Execution Parallel or Sequential?

  We have a quartz based scheduler application which runs about 1000 jobs per minute which are evenly distributed across seconds of each minute i.e. about 16-17 jobs per second. Ideally, these 16-17 jobs should fire at same time, however our first statement, which simply logs the time of execution, of execute method of the job is being called very late. e.g. let us assume we have 1000 jobs scheduled per minute from 05:00 to 05:04. So, ideally the job which is scheduled at 05:03:50 should have logged the first statement of the execute method at 05:03:50, however, it is doing it at about 05:06:38. I have tracked down the time taken by the scheduled job which comes around 15-20 milliseconds. This scheduled job is fast enough because we just send a message on an ActiveMQ queue. We have specified the number of threads of quartz to be 100 and even tried with increasing it to 200 and more, but no gain. One more thing we noticed is that logs from scheduler are coming sequential after first 1 minute i.e. [Quartz_Worker_28] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_29] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_30] <Some log statement> .. .. So it suggesting that after some time quartz is running threads almost sequential. May be this is happening due to the time taken in notifying the job completion to persistence store (which is a separate postgres database in this case) and/or context switching. What can be the reason behind this strange behavior?   Some installations that run our applications can be under hefty stress on a busy day. Our clients ask us is there is a way to manage priorities in our application. For example, in a typical internet banking application, banks are interested in having the form “Transfer money” responsive, while the “Statement” page is a lot less critical. Not being able to transfer money is a direct loss for the bank, while not being able to produce a statement or something similar can be fixed with an apology. AFAIK, neither can you manage different request or session timeouts in a typical web application, it is one value for the whole of your web app. Managing message priority and expiry time is a typical feature in many middleware platforms. Something like this can be useful for a web front end as well. Do any of web servers (either java or .net) or web frameworks provide these features? How would you go about implementing it if you’d have to go for roll-your-own?

• What is the maximum length in seconds to store a value in memcache

  The Google App Engine memcache documentation states that the time parameter of memcache.set() is an "Optional expiration time, either relative number of seconds from current time (up to 1 month), or an absolute Unix epoch time." So I tried to set a value for 30 days, which according to Google is 2 592 000 seconds. However, I highly suspect that this value is too high, because the value was set (memcache.set() returned the value True), but a memcache.get() just after always returned None. Reducing this value to 1 728 000 seconds just worked fine/as expected. I guess that once passed the highest value, the time parameter gets interpreted as an absolute Unix epoch time. That would mean that 2 592 000 seconds got interpreted as "Sat, 31 Jan 1970 00:00:00 GMT", which is obviously a date in the past... So what is the highest value you can enter that will get interpreted as a number of seconds in the future?

  Hi... I've got an entity object - Customer, with a property called VATRate. This VATRate is in the form of a decimal (0.25). I wanted to be able to enter a percentage value, and save it in the correct decimal value in the database, so I made this custom property: partial class Customer{ public decimal VatPercent { get{ ... //Get code works fine} set { this.VATRate = (value / 100); } } } And then I just bind this property instead of VATRate in my ASPX editTemplate (formview). This actually works - at least one time, when I debug an update, the value is set correctly one time, and then right after it gets set to the old value. I can't really see why it sets the value twice (and with the old value the second time). Can anyone shed some light on this?

• iPack -The iOS Application Packager

  iOS applications are distributed in .ipa archive files. These files are regular zip files which contain application resources and executable-s. To protect them from unauthorized modifications and to provide identification of their sources, the content of the archives is signed. The signature is included in the application executable of an.ipa archive and protects the executable file itself and the associated resource files. Apple provides native Mac OS tools for signing iOS executable-s (which are actually generic Mach-O code signing tools), but these tools are not generally available on other platforms. To provide a multi-platform development environment for JavaFX based iOS applications, we ported iOS signing and packaging to Java and created a dedicated ipack tool for it. The iPack tool can be used as a last step of creating .ipa package on various operating systems. Prototype has been tested by creating a final distributable for JavaFX application that runs on iPad, all done on Windows 7. Source Code The source code of iPac tool is in OpenJFX project repository. You can find it in: <openjfx root>/rt/tools/ios/Maven/ipack To build the iPack tool use: rt/tools/ios/Maven/ipack$ mvn package After building, you can run the tool: java -jar <path to ipack.jar> <arguments>  Signing keystore The tool uses a java key store to read the signing certificate and the associated private key. To prepare such keystore users can use keytool from JDK. One possible scenario is to import an existing private key and the certificate from a key store used on Mac OS: To list the content of an existing key store and identify the source alias: keytool -list -keystore <src keystore>.p12 -storetype pkcs12 -storepass <src keystore password> To create Java key store and import the private key with its certificate to the keys store: keytool -importkeystore \ -destkeystore <dst keystore> -deststorepass <dst keystore password> \ -srckeystore <src keystore>.p12 -srcstorepass <src keystore password> -srcstoretype pkcs12 \ -srcalias <src alias> -destalias <dst alias> -destkeypass <dst key password> Another scenario would be to generate a private / public key pair directly in a Java key store and create a certificate request from it. After sending the request to Apple one can then import the certificate response back to the Java key store and complete the signing certificate entry. In both scenarios the resulting alias in the Java key store will contain only a single (leaf) certificate. This can be verified with the following command: keytool -list -v -keystore <ipack keystore> -storepass <keystore password> When looking at the Certificate chain length entry, the number next to it is 1. When an executable file is signed on Mac OS, the resulting signature (in CMS format) includes the whole certificate chain up to the Apple Root CA. The ipack tool includes only the chain which is stored under the alias specified on the command line. So to have the whole chain in the signature we need to replace the single certificate entry under the alias with the corresponding full certificate chain. To do that we need first to create the chain in a separate file. It is easy to create such chain when working with certificates in Base-64 encoded PEM format. A certificate chain can be created by concatenating PEM certificates, which should form the chain, into a single file.
