One thing that caught my eye and I haven't been able to figure out is the use of double not operator !! in the IE property. If you read through the code you will find it at many other places. I dont understand whats the difference between !!window.attachEvent and using just window.attachEvent. Is it just a convention or is there more to it that's not obvious?

• Do the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features in C#/.NET 4.0 mean Microsoft.mshtml.dll is no longer

  I'm maintaining a WPF based application which contains a WinForms based WebBrowser control that based on the IE web browser control. When we deploy, we have had to also supply Microsoft.mshtml.dll and do some custom configuration stuff for our ClickOnce publishing process as well in order to get things to work. I'm curious that with the new NoPIA and Type Equivalence features and dynamic type capabilities in C# 4.0 can we expect that if we upgrade that we can remove the dependencies on the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly? If so this will not only reduce the size of our deployment quite a bit but will also simplify our publishing process as well. It is my understanding that we should be able embed the types that normally get automatically generated into extra assemblies for COM types such as the MapPoint Control by Visual Studio. I don't know if this also applies to the Microsoft.mshtml.dll or even how it is done even in the most simple of cases. If somebody could provide an explanation about what the practical impact of these new features are on a project that relies on COM interop and especially the Microsoft.mshtml.dll assembly it would be of great help to me.

• How return 304 status with FileResult in ASP.NET MVC RC1

  As you may know we have got a new ActionResult called FileResult in RC1 version of ASP.NET MVC. Using that, your action methods can return image to browser dynamically. Something like this: public ActionResult DisplayPhoto(int id) { Photo photo = GetPhotoFromDatabase(id); return File(photo.Content, photo.ContentType); } In the HTML code, we can use something like this: <img src="http://mysite.com/controller/DisplayPhoto/657"> Since the image is returned dynamically, we need a way to cache the returned stream so that we don't need to read the image again from database. I guess we can do it with something like this, I'm not sure: Response.StatusCode = 304; This tells the browser that you already have the image in your cache. I just don't know what to return in my action method after setting StatusCode to 304. Should I return null or something?

  Hello, I'am looking for a way to have a webview content selectable in the very same way as the stock browser does. user long presses the text the whole word is selected two pins appear at the word's boundary allowing the user to stretch/shrink the selection. I should note that Dolphin HD shows exactly the same text select functionality as the default browser (same icons, animation, etc), so it really should be possible. But I can't figure out how.   Hi, I am new to JSF. I want to use inputListOfValues component from Trinidad in my application which also uses Tomahawk. I have added the required jars for Trinidad and before getting inputListOfValues I tried one simple inputText to be printed on browser using Trinidad. I was not getting any configuration errors but it was not printing the corresponding text on browser. So I wonder if I can use tomahawk and trinidad together ? • Should I use formal methods on my software project?

  Our client wants us to build a web-based, rich internet application for gathering software requirements. Basically it's a web-based case tool that follows a specific process for getting requirements from stakeholders. I'm the project manager and we're still in the early phases of the project. I've been thinking about using formal methods to help clarify the requirements for the tool for both my client and the developers. By formal methods I mean some form of modeling, possibly something mathematically-based. Some of the things I've read about and are considering include Z (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z_notation), state machines, UML 2.0 (possibly with extensions such as OCL), Petri nets, and some coding-level stuff like contracts and pre and post conditions. Is there anything else I should consider? The developers are experienced but depending on the formalism used they may have to learn some math. I'm trying to determine whether it's worth while for me to use formal methods on this project and if so, to what extent. I know "it depends" so the most helpful answers for me is a yes/no and supporting arguments. Would you use formal methods if you were on this project?

• Obtaining Current Fiscal Year from Hierarchy with MDX

  I'm building a report in Reporting Services 2005 based on a SSAS 2005 cube. The basic idea of the report is that they want to see sales for this fiscal year to date vs. last year sales year to date. It sounds simple, but being that this is my first "real" report based on SSAS, I'm having a hell of a time. First, how would one calculate the current fiscal year, quarter, or month. I have a Fiscal Date Hierarchy with all that information in it, but I can't figure out how to say: "Based on today's date, find the current fiscal year, quarter, and month." My second, but slightly smaller problem, is getting last years sales vs. this years sales. I have seen MANY examples on how to do this, but they all assume that you select the date manually. Since this is a report and will run pretty much on it's own, I need a way to insert the "current" fiscal year, quarter, and month into the PERIODSTODATE or PARALLELPERIOD functions to get what I want. So, I'm begging for your help on this one. I have to have this report done by tomorrow monring and I'm beginning to freak out a bit. Thanks in advance.

• Is there anyway of making json data readable by a Google spider?

  Is it possible to make JSON data readable by a Google spider? Say for instance that I have a JSON feed that contains the data for an e-commerce site. This JSON data is used to populate a human-readable page in the users browser. (I.E. The translation from JSON data to human displayed page is done inside the users browser; not my choice, just what I've been given to work with, its an old legacy CGI application and not an actual server-side scripting language.) My concern here is that, the google spiders will not be able to pickup/directly link to the item in question when a user clicks on it in google, being presented with an index page full of all the items, rather than being linked directly to the item they clicked on. Is there anyway of "informing" the google spider in the JSON that what they should feed the user a different link?

  Hello! Does anyone know how to read c,š,ž characters in http get response properly? When i make my request in browser the browser displays all characters correctly. • How to get levels for Fry Graph readability formula?

  Hi, I'm working in an application (C#) that applies some readability formulas to a text, like Gunning-Fog, Precise SMOG, Flesh-Kincaid. Now, I need to implement the Fry-based Grade formula in my program, I understand the formula's logic, pretty much you take 3 100-words samples and calculate the average on sentences per 100-words and syllables per 100-words, and then, you use a graph to plot the values. Here is a more detailed explanation on how this formula works. I already have the averages, but I have no idea on how can I tell my program to "go check the graph and plot the values and give me a level." I don't have to show the graph to the user, I only have to show him the level. I was thinking that maybe I can have all the values in memory, divided into levels, for example: Level 1: values whose sentence average are between 10.0 and 25+, and whose syllables average are between 108 and 132. Level 2: values whose sentence average are between 7.7 and 10.0, and .... so on But the problem is that so far, the only place in which I have found the values that define a level, are in the graph itself, and they aren't too much accurate, so if I apply the approach commented above, trying to take the values from the graph, my level estimations would be too much imprecise, thus, the Fry-based Grade will not be accurate. So, maybe any of you knows about some place where I can find exact values for the different levels of the Fry-based Grade, or maybe any of you can help me think in a way to workaround this. Thanks

  First off, I'm using Tomcat 5.5 and my .jsp's live in /webapps/foo/bar/*.jsp. I followed the directions here to set up a default 404 error page. In my TOMCAT_HOME/conf/web.xml I entered: <error-page> <error-code>404</error-code> <location>/error.html</location> </error-page> I dropped copies of a test error.html file into each of the dirs (I wasn't sure where /error.html was referring to): /webapps/ /webapps/foo/ /webapps/foo/bar/ Whenever I attempt to access a non-existent page in a browser at url's /foo/missingpage.html or /foo/bar/missingpage.html I'm redirected to my error page that exists in /foo/error.html. However, attempting to access a non-existent page in a browser at url /missingpage.html yields a blankpage. Or any permutation of /missingDir/missingfile.html will also yield a blank page. Any suggestions? Am I missing some extra configuration? Thanks PR

The problem is, these function won't be executed when clicking on anchors located in the new HTML fragment which were injected right before.   Hi in my application there is web browser control to show some static html pages. The pages are displayed properly. but images are not displayed.. I tried with changing src-path but no success. my htmlpages folder is located at bin folder. And i am assigning it as. FileStream source = new FileStream(@"..\HtmlPages\supportHtml.html", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); if i open html files in browser, the images are displayed properly.. So, What is the correct path for images..?? If i set full path to src attribute of <img> tag..it works. but i think its not a proper way. :( EDIT: If i assign d:\myapp\bin\HtmlPages\support.gif then image is displayed. And if i assign "..\HtmlPages\support.gif" or "support.gif" image is not shown.

• NServiceBus is blocking when hosted in ASP.NET web application

  Hello, I created a simple web application where a search form is filled out, submit button clicked, and a message is sent with the search parameters via nServiceBus. I also have a handler in the same project that picks up the message (from the same queue). For some reason, the web server process blocks until after the message is picked up, is there any reason for this? I set a breakpoint in the message handler and it breaks before the request finishes... locking the browser until I allow the code to continue. I would expect control to return to the browser regardless of when the handler gets fired... Thanks, D.Niemeyer

  Is it possible to use Ruby as a scripting language with a HTTP server ? I'd like to be able to simply put some Ruby files in a web directory and be able to execute them from my browser - just like I did with PHP. I have absolutely nothing against frameworks such as RoR, but I was told that I should first learn Ruby and only then move on with higher level frameworks. Of course, I could write some Ruby scripts and run them in the console, but I would prefer getting the input/output from my browser :) Is that possible at all ? Otherwise, how hard would it be for me to build a quick and simple web framework ?

That problem is solved now, however I came to understanding that I have very abstract idea on how exactly the whole thing is working: how web browser is verifying that received certificate is really for host it communicates to and not faked by same party in the middle? if browser talks to some 3rd party (CA?) to do certificate check? and many other questions...   I need a vertical layout, which would fill browser's viewport top to bottom, with on overflow (scrollbars). I need to layout widgets on the top, and on the bottom, and have one widget in the center which would stretch to fill the remaining space. There seems to be DockLayoutPanel for this purpose, the problem with it is that it forces me to specify widget sizes, and I don't know the sizes of the top/bottom widgets before the browser does it's layouting job, which is tricky (buggy) to track. I cannot find the right moment when to measure my widgets, and I don't want to do this kind of layouting code anyway.

• Custom Calculations in a Matrix - Reporting Services 2005

  I am writing a report to show gas usage (in gallons) used by each department. The request is to view each month and the gallons used by each department. A column is required to display what each departments target goal is, based on the gallons of gas they have used in a past time frame. Each departments target goal is x percent less than the total gallons used for said time frame. I currently have a matrix in Reporting Services with departments making up rows, months making up columns, and gallons filling the details. The matrix is being filled by dataset1. I have the data grouping as is requested for each month by each department. My problem is calculating the target goal. My thought was to create a second dataset (dataset2) that returns the gallons used based on the time frame requested. I grouped this data by department. I was hoping I could use the department field in each dataset to make sure the appropriate numbers were used. I added a new column which shows up next to the gallons field. As I attempted to build the Expression I found out that I could only grab the gallons used from dataset2 if I was summing the gallons field. This gives me the total gallons used by every department combined. I have tried to find resources with similar examples of what I am trying to accomplish but I cannot seem to come across one. I am trying to keep this as detailed as possible without making it too wordy. I would be more than happy to clarify or explain into further detail what I have written above if it is needed. If anyone has links, comments, or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. A very simple visual or what I am hoping to accomplish is below. • IIS7 - Specifying content-length header in ASP causes "connection reset" error

  I'm migrating a series of websites from an existing IIS5 server to a brand new IIS7 web server. One of the pages pulls a data file from a blob in the database and serves it to the end user: Response.ContentType = rs("contentType") Response.AddHeader "Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=" & Trim(rs("docName"))&rs("suffix")' let the browser know the file name Response.AddHeader "Content-Length", cstr(rs("docsize"))' let the browser know the file size Testing this in the new IIS7 install, I get a "Connection Reset" error in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The document is served up correctly if the Content-Length header is removed (but then the user won't get a useful progress bar). Any ideas on how to correct this; whether it be a server configuration option or via code? Thanks.

• sIFR Doesn't Work in FF3 Mac.

  I thought it might be something I was doing wrong, but I am not seeing it working on any site, including Novemberborn.net. Any Ideas? The CSS is loaded, so the headlines are hidden, and then it is like the JS isn't loaded at all. Could this be a browser detection issue? I am using firefox 3 with latest flash player version 10. I have heard the complaint from other Mac users as well. Works on every other browser... EDIT: I removed the CSS to hide, it still doesn't work. After a pause, it loads the JS and removes the headlines, but doesn't replace them.

• Windows 7 120 GB disc drive C full

  I have windows 7 and my disc drive has a capacity of 120 GB. From one day to another it tells me that my disc C is full in a red bar but I dont have many programs installed. I deleted all of my videos, games, music, pictures, etc and I was able to free up 30 GB. I ran the disk cleaner and emptied the TEMP folder and garbage can but it still shows a 70GB used. Can I get some help from the experts PLEASE!!!
