• Is it possible to build a JPA entity by extending a POJO?

  Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

  I'm trying to use System.Data.Sqlite library, and I'm following the documentation about optimizing inserts so I copied this code directly out of the documentation: using (SQLiteTransaction mytransaction = myconnection.BeginTransaction()) { using (SQLiteCommand mycommand = new SQLiteCommand(myconnection)) { SQLiteParameter myparam = new SQLiteParameter(); int n; mycommand.CommandText = "INSERT INTO [MyTable] ([MyId]) VALUES(?)"; mycommand.Parameters.Add(myparam); for (n = 0; n < 100000; n ++) { myparam.Value = n + 1; mycommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); } } mytransaction.Commit(); } Now, I initialize I connection right before that by using SqlConnection myconnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=blah"); I have a Database named blah, with the correct tables and values. The problem is when I run this code, it says "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object" I've tried changing the code around several times, and it still points to BeginTransaction. What gives?

• need help with installing shared libraries on linux

  Hi, I am new to linux and trying to get the Ajax Push engine server to work on Ubuntu 9.04. I installed the server from source it fails the check that it does by using its own javascript framework. The problem is that it fails to load the modules and the output that i get in the terminal when i start it is. [Module] Failed to load ../modules/lib/libmod_spidermonkey.so [Invalid library] (libmysac.so.0.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) i thought i had to install mysac lib as a shared lib, so after some searching i copied the libmysac.so to /usr/local/lib/ and upon running ldconfig there it created the symlink. But still it gived the same error. Now I copied the libmod_spidermonkey.so in the shared lib dir. But this time ldconfig did not create any symlinks. I am really confused and looking for some pointers . Please help

• Problem deploying GWT project with a servlet that invoke an EJB

  I have a simple GWT project in Eclipse, it has a servlet that calls an EJB and everything works fine when I run it in hosted mode from Eclipse. MyProject +- src +- JRE System Library +- GWT SDK +- Apache Geronimo v2.2 +- myEJB.jar +- openejb.jar -- war -- +- images -- +- myproject -- +- WEB-INF I'm not sure what is the best way to deploy it, but what I did is create a .war file from the "war" folder of the project then deploy it to the server. Communication between client and server works fine but I get an error when I try to do JNDI look up for the EJB within the servlet. The error I get is something like "JNDI error, cannot find FooManagerRemote" Things works fine in hosted mode so I'm pretty sure that I din't deploy it correctly.

  Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and lower function, which takes each char in string and covnerts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and working with hex values manually?

  Hi, I would like to unit test a DEPENDENT service layer which allows me to perform CRUD operation without mocking using NUnit. I know this is probably bad practice but I want to give it a try anyway - even if the tests have to run over night. My data is persisted using NHibernate and I have implemented a little library that 'bootstraps' the database which I could use in a [Setup] method. I am just wondering if someone has done something similar and what the fastest method for bootstrapping the database is. I am using something like this: var cfg = new Configuration(); cfg.Configure(); cfg.AddAssembly("Bla"); new SchemaExport(cfg).Execute(false, true, false); to establish the db schema. After that I populate some lookup tables from some Excel tables. Any feedback would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Christian

  I use an API that expects a SQL string. I take a user input, escape it and pass it along to the API. The user input is quiet simple. It asks for column values. Like so: string name = userInput.Value; Then I construct a SQL query: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", name.replace("'", "''")); Is this safe enough? If it isn't, is there a simple library function that make column values safe: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", SqlSafeColumnValue(name)); The API uses SQLServer as the database. • Having trouble with event creation using the events.create API with the iPhone SDK

  I'm using the FBConnect library in my iPhone app, and I'm trying to create Facebook events. After getting a valid session and verifying permissions, I'm using events.create and getting what looks like a valid event ID back from FB in a success response. Oddly the event isn't showing up on my account's Events page either in current or in past events. I thought the problem might be that the event might not include me as an attendee so I followed the successful events.create call with an events.rsvp call to set my status to "attending". That also gets back success from FB, but I'm still not seeing anything show up. Am I missing a step? Is there something other than Create and then RSVP that I need to do, or is there an error with the api/Facebook? I don't think I'm missing any of the required fields for event creation (name and start_time) and I am populating a lot of the other fields in event_info...

• Is VS 2010 SharePoint functionality good enough to replace WSP Builder?

  I have been using WSP builder up until now with VS 2008. I recently upgraded my IDE to VS 2010, and have heard that VS 2010 now includes functionality to work with MOSS directly. If you guys have had any experience with this new MOSS functionality and have come from a WSP builder background I would like to hear what you think. Just to add more focus to my question, I am not interested in ease of deployment at this stage, only the ability to wrap up a WSP package, so I can ship this off to production machines. So can VS 2010 out of the box create WSP packages from class library projects, like WSP Builder does?

• How to align centre a custom label in highcharts

  See a jsfiddle example I am trying to align the custom label in the /labels/items JSON element to hang right under the title and subtitle. Playing with firebug I can alter the SVG text element for the label and add text-align='middle' and change the x='' attribute to have the same value as the title's x attribute. This makes it perfectly align under the title and stay there when resized but I can't figure out how to make the highcharts library generate this source. Maybe there is a better way to add another label under the subtitle?

  In relation to this question, I was wondering if anyone knows a javascript code snippet/library to convert a single doxygen comment to HTML? For example, /** This is a comment block * * \b bold text * \i italic text */ would be converted to something like: <p>This is a comment block</p> <p><b>bold</b> text</p> <p><i>italic</i> text</p> Similar for all the other formatting related tags of doxygen. I've found this already, which seems to be a good starting point if I have to implement it myself, but possibly I'm missing a complete project :-) So, suggestions welcome!

• Problem creating PostGIS template database

  I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run. • .Net Regular expression - how to do an exact match exclusion on a full string?

  I need a .Net regular expression that matches anything OTHER than the exact full string match specified. So basically: ^Index$ ... is the only exclusion I care about. Strings can start with, finish with or contain "Index", but not match exactly. My brain doesn't seem to be working today and I'm failing to work this one out. EDIT The answer MUST be via the pattern itself, as I am passing an argument to a third party library and do not have control over the process other than via the Regex pattern.

• Advanced command line argument parsing in Java?

  Does anyone have any java examples for parsing a series of command line arguements in a robust way? I'm looking to be able to handle something like: java myapp [-l language] [-d int] [-f file1 file2 file3] I want to do this in a robust way so I can provide logical error messages to the user if they mistake a command line-option. Some of these options I'd like to make optional, etc, etc. Also, the -f file list should be able to handle a list of files. Is there some library out there to assist me in handling this?

• Why is Yahoo Indexing Bot considered as "evil"?

  After reading and commenting on this question PHP Library for Keeping your site index by Google, Bing, etc, I was curious to look at StackOverFlow's sitemap. This returned a 404 error which I am guessing is just a protected page by determining if your are a Index Bot or simply doesnt exists. This then lead me to look at the robots.txt for StackOverFlow. I was surprised to see the comment "Yahoo bot is evil" along with a couple other Indexing bots (Spinn3r and KSCrawler) . I am unfamilular with Spinn3r and KSCrawler but my question is, why are these bots (particular Yahoo) considered as evil? Surely any and all indexing of any Search Engine is a good thing?

  Folks, I am starting work on an iPad/iPhone application that is essentially a form-filing UI. The requirement is to present a (rather large) form to the user. The form is composed of sections and questions, like so: Form Question 0.1 Question 0.2 Section 1 Question 1.1 etc. The user can take various paths down the form based on answers to questions. I would like to architect this by defining a declarative markup that can be used to author the form questionnaire including traversal rules. My questions are: Can anyone recommend a markup/language that would satisfy the declaration requirement? Is there any existing library that would ease the implementation as described above?   Hi, I am traditionally a Perl and C++ programmer, so apologies in advance if I am misunderstanding something trivial about Python! I would like to create a reference to a reference. Huh? Ok. All objects in Python are actually references to the real object. So, how do I create a reference to this reference? Why do I need/want this? I am overriding sys.stdout and sys.stderr to create a logging library. I would like a (second-level) reference to sys.stdout. If I could create a reference to a reference, then I could create a generic logger class where the init function receives a reference to a file handle reference that will be overrided, e.g., sys.stdout or sys.stderr. Since the call to channel.__next__ needs to be returned when the callback <IRCClient instance>.privmsg is called, there doesn't seem to be a clean option. Using exceptions or threads seems like the wrong thing here, is there a simpler (blocking?) way of using twisted that would make this possible?

  I am creating an interpreter for my extension to HQ9+, which has the following extra command called V: V: Interpretes the code as Lua, Brainfuck, INTERCAL, Ruby, ShellScript, Perl, Python, PHP in that order, and if even one error has occoured, run the HQ9+-ABC code again most of them have libraries, BF and INTERCAL can be interpreted without a library, but the problem lies in ShellScript. How can I run a shellscript from my C++ application ( =the HQ9+-ABC interpreter) and when it's done, get the error code (0 = succeded, all others = failed)? So something like this: system(".tempshellscript738319939474"); if(errcode != 0) { (rerun code); } can anyone help me? Thanks

• Keyboard input for a game in Java

  I'm writing a game in Java, right now it's Swing + JOGL - a JFrame with a GLCanvas. I handle input using keyPressed etc. events (jframe.addKeyListener(...)) and it doesn't seem to work properly: when I have 3+ keys down at the same time, they don't register properly after the window loses, then regains focus, input stops working completely... What am I doing wrong? Is there a better way of handling keyboard input in Java? (I'd rather not switch to another library, like LWJGL... unless I have no choice).

The problem lies in that a constructor cannot exist twice with the same type of parameters. Sure I can tell the logical difference between the two paramters, but the computer can't.   Hello everyone, I'd like to add path to the openMPI library headers. So, after i found all openMPI headers are in /usr/lib/openmpi/include/* i added these two lines to my .emacs: (semantic-add-system-include "/usr/lib/openmpi/include" 'c-mode) (semantic-add-system-include "/usr/lib/openmpi/include" 'c++-mode) I think this is ok, but it's not working! This is the result of semantic-c-describe-envirnoment command: This file's system include path is: /usr/include /usr/local/include/ /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.4.3/include/ /usr/lib/gcc/i486-linux-gnu/4.4.3/include-fixed/ /usr/include/ Can't figure out what's wrong or what i'm missing Thanks

• How to recognise vehicle licence / number plate (ANPR) from an image?

  Hi all, I have a web site that allows users to upload images of cars and I would like to put a privacy filter in place to detect registration plates on the vehicle and blur them. The blurring is not a problem but is there a library or component (open source preferred) that will help with finding a licence within a photo? Caveats; I know nothing is perfect and image recognition of this type will provide false positive and negatives. I appreciate that we could ask the user to select the area to blur and we will do this as well, but the question is specifically about finding that data programmatically; so answers such as 'get a person to check every image' is not helpful. This software method is called 'Automatic Number Plate Recognition' in the UK but I cannot see any implementations of it as libraries. Any language is great although .Net is preferred.
