• Is there any way to set or code breakpoints conditionally?

  I've been wondering this for a while - is there a way to code/program breakpoints...? Conditionally? For example, can I specify something like - "when this variable becomes this value, break and open the debugger"? (Would be quite useful, especially in long loops when you want to debug loop execution of a late loop value.) I suppose this may be IDE-specific since debugging is implemented differently in different IDEs... I'd be interested to know how to do this in any IDE, but specifically in Eclipse and Visual Studio.

  I need some suggestions for how to implement a very basic mechanism that logs what multiple users are doing in an application. When another feature is running I then need to change the application, to restrict functionality. Use Case Example User can normaly edit unpaid records. If the application then runs a Payrun process (Long), I need to then change parts of the application to restrict functionality for a short period of time (eg. Make existing unpaid records readonly). Any suggestions on how I can do this in a .net application?

• Recording Audio through RTMP/Rails

  I am in the process of building a rails/flex application which requires audio to be recorded and then stored in our amazon s3 account. I have found no alternative to using some form of RTMP server for recording audio through flash, but our hosting environment will not allow us to install anything like FMS, Red5, etc. Is there any existing Ruby/Rails RTMP solution that will allow audio recording? If not, is it possible for Rails to at least intercept the RTMP stream and then I can hope to reference red5 or something for parsing the data (long shot, I know)? The other alternative I can think of is hosting a red5 server on another host and communicating with our rails app once the saving/uploading is done, which is not preferred. Am I going to have any luck here?

• IE browser doesn't close and file download popup needs focus

  Hii all , I am trying to to click on a link after it is active which again produces a popup ( file download) after clicking. Here i have 2 problems 1) I start the code and leave it .what the code does is -after long process -it waits for the link to be active .Once the link is active it clicks on the link and a download popups opens (if everything goes well) and then it hangs there ( showing yellow flashing in the task bar which mean i have to click on the explorer for it to process whatever is next ).every time i have to click on the IE whenever the download popup appears .Is there a way to handle this or am i doing some wrong ? 2) The next problem is even if i click on the IE .the IE doesn't get close even though i write ie.close . my code is below : ## if the link is active ie.link(:text,a).click_no_wait prompt_message = "Do you want to open or save this file?" window_title = "File Download" save_dialog =WIN32OLE.new("AutoItX3.Control") save_dialog.WinGetText(window_title) save_dialog_obtained =save_dialog.WinWaitActive(window_title) save_dialog.WinKill(window_title) # end #' #some more code -normal puts statements # ie.close ie is hanging up for some strange reason ..?

• pyopengl: Could it replace c++ ?

  Hi everyone. I'm starting a computer graphics course, and I have to choose a language. Choices are between C++ and Python. I have no problem with C++, python is a work in progress. So i was thinking to go down the python road, using pyopengl for graphics part. I have heard though, that performance is an issue. Is python / pyopengl mature enough to challenge C++ on performance? I realize its a long shot, but I'd like to hear your thoughts, experiences on uses of pyopengl. Thanks in advance.

• LINQ to SQL SubmitChangess() progress

  I'm using LINQ to SQLto import old DBF files into MSSQL. I'm reading all rows and adding them to database using ctx.MyTable.InsertOnSubmit(row) After reading phase is completed I have around 100 000 pending inserts. ctx.SubmitChanges() naturally is taking a long time. Is there any way to track progress of the ctx.submitchanges()? Can ctx.Log somehow be used for this purpose? Update: Is it possible to use ctx.GetChangeSet().Inserts.Count and track insert statements using the Log? Dividing ctx.SubmitChanges() into smaller chunks is not working for me, because I need transaction, all or nothing. • WPF Visual States and the transitions between them

  I'm trying to define many different states in my app (around 7 in my case) and I have defined each one of them with a "Default Transition" of zero seconds, but the animation that accompanies each state goes for 1 second. When I fire up my app I have a button than goes through the states one by one, when I go "State1" - "State2" it looks perfect, but when I tell my app (which should be in State2 now) to go to "State3" it reverts all the objects in my scene back to their base state, and then animates to "State3", why doesnt it go from "State2" to "State3". I was hoping to only define each state's end position without defining a starting position as this would really take a long time to do. Can this be done? Any examples? Cheers, Mark

  Hi All, Here is my code which is doing the conversion from hex to decimal. The hex values are stored in a unsigned char array: int liIndex ; long hexToDec ; unsigned char length[4]; for (liIndex = 0; liIndex < 4 ; liIndex++) { length[liIndex]= (unsigned char) *content; printf("\n Hex value is %.2x", length[liIndex]); content++; } hexToDec = strtol(length, NULL, 16); Each array element contains 1 byte of information and I have read 4 bytes. When I execute it, here is the output that I get : Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 00 Hex value is 01 Chunk length is 0 Can any one please help me understand the error here.   In my JFreeChart timeseries plots I find the legends lines to thin to see the colour accurately. Another post [ jfreechart - change sample of colors in legend ] suggested overriding a renderer method as follows: renderer = new XYLineAndShapeRenderer() { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; public Shape lookupLegendShape(int series) { return new Rectangle(15, 15); } }; this approach works fine until you do what I did renderer.setSeriesShapesVisible(i, false); Once I did that the legend reverts back to a line. I used Socket s = new Socket(ip, port) Now it works fine. but when my internet connection is very slow that time after a long interval (even if sometimes after 2 minutes) i used to get SocketTimeOutException in that line. means it gives that error while creating socket. I want the exception should be handled properly means if internet connection is very slow then if that error occurs it happens very late now . I want if this type of error occurs then it should be caught very fast means the error should not come at such a delay interval of time rather it should come immediately. How to achieve this. • AS3 TextField - unwanted carriage return when setting value to ""

  I have an input TextField and have a KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN even listener on the stage to listen for the Keyboard.ENTER event. The event listener adds the entered text to an array or whatever, and then clears the TextField. The problem is that when the Enter key event fires and the TextField value is set to "", it leaves a carriage return in the TextField and the cursor positioned on the second line. WTF? I've been coding AS2 and AS3 for a LONG time and have never ran into this before. Am I losing my mind? I know how to use the following: BeginInvoke/EndInvoke Calling Application.DoEvents() repeatedly (probably not a good idea) BackgroundWorker etc. But how to manage GUI state with call backs, etc... is not trivial. • Adding barcodes to pdfs

  is there any way to do something like a mail merge, where the data (9-15 chars long) is converted to a barcode? im using trying to use openoffice's code128 for calc, but for some reason, every 10 strings, the barcode goes crazy, and the ascii tells me to register at the site where the extension came from, which i dont want to do i also found one for oodraw, but that requires the values to be inputted manually. since im not familiar with the macros, i can't write something that will do it automatically what im trying to do is: take an old pdf (only 1 page) covert it to word or picture or something add a function/macro/whatever to show a barcode (whether or not the barcode shows in this file, i dont care), given a string from excel data reconvert to separate pdfs or some other way that adds barcodes to pdfs all other free programs i have found do not do this nicely, and since im not really a pdf person, im not going to buy random programs. i just need this done for one large batch of data

• Slow motion tween text isn't smooth

  Hi! i have to create a movie where a text string move in horizontal. the problem is that in the movie (800px wide) the text should go from right to left in about 7 seconds (so it have to go about 400px to the left in 7 sec). i created a motion-tween with ease for my "text" and the tween is long (at 30fps) 30*7=210 frames. the result is that the text DON'T MOVE FLUID... it's not a uniform movement... it's too visible the fact that it moves X pixel each x frames. it's the exact opposite of SMOOTH MOVEMENT. How can i obtain a smooth slow-motion text movement?

  I am using OpenLayers to create a box of interest with my program. However the values come back as pixels. But I want Longitude and Latitude, not pixels. The Mouse Position control does show the correct long & lat. I really don't care how to box is created, I just want an easy way for the user to select a area of the map and I need to get the lat & longs of the area. (Box, Circle, doesn't matter)

  We've an existing system which connects to the the back end via http (apache/ssl) and polls the server for new messages, needless to say we have scalability issues. I'm researching on removing this polling and have come across BOSH/XMPP but I'm not sure how we should take the BOSH technique (using long lived http connection). I've seen there are few libraries available but the entire thing seems bloaty since we do not need buddy lists etc and simply want to notify the clients of available messages. The client is written in C/C++ and works across most OS so that is an important factor. The server is in Java. does bosh result in huge number of httpd processes? since it has to keep all the clients connected, what would be the limit on that. we are also planning to move to 64 bit JVM/apache what would be the max limit of clients in that case. any hints?

• C#, WPF. Length of string that will fit in a specific width.

  Hi, I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, I have an area in which I intend to draw text. I know its (the area) height and width. I wish to know how many characters/Words will fit in the width, characters preferably. Second question, If the line is too long I'll want to draw a second line, so I guess I need to get the height of the text as well, including what ever it considers the right vertical padding? I'd also rather like to know the inverse, i.e. how many characters I can fit in a specific width. I assume the fact that WPF isn't constrained to pixels will have some bearing on the answer? Ultimately I'm planning on wrapping text around irregular shaped images embedded in the text. Any pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks

• Invert bitmap colors

  I have the following problem. I have a charting program, and it's design is black, but the charts (that I get from the server as images) are light (it actually uses only 5 colors: red, green, white, black and gray). To fit with the design inversion does a good job, the only problem is that red and green are inverted also (green - pink, red - green). Is there a way to invert everything except those 2 colors, or a way to repaint those colors after inversion? And how costly are those operations (since I get the chart updates pretty often)? Thanks in advance :) UPDATE I tried replacing colors with setPixel method in a loop for(int x = 0 ;x < chart.getWidth();x++) { for(int y = 0;y < chart.getHeight();y++) { final int replacement = getColorReplacement(chart.getPixel(x, y)); if(replacement != 0) { chart.setPixel(x, y, replacement); } } } Unfortunetely, the method takes too long (~650ms), is there a faster way to do it, and will setPixels() method work faster?

• DragDrop registration did not succeed in Setup Project

  Hello, we have some installation project in Visual Studio solution (Other project types - Setup and deployment - Setup project). This project have other library type project with Installation class named InstallationCore like project output. In user action I call to Install and Uninstall functions of installer of InstallationCore. InstallationCore has windows forms for interaction with user. There, in forms, I use Drag and Drop functionality for Drag and Drop text from Tree View to Text Box. But in line: txbUserName.AllowDrop = true; I get error of JIT debugger: Unhandled exception has occured DragDrop registration did not succeed System.InvalidOperationException: DragDrop registration did not succeed And long stack trace after that. Important to say, that when I run Installer function from test project the error did not occur and all work fine. Error occurs only when I run the .msi package. Any suggestions? Thank you for ahead.

• Have you been in cases where TDD increased development time?

  Hello everyone :) I was reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2512504/tdd-how-to-start-really-thinking-tdd and I noticed many of the answers indicate that tests + application should take less time than just writing the application. In my experience, this is not true. My problem though is that some 90% of the code I write has a TON of operating system calls. The time spent to actually mock these up takes much longer than just writing the code in the first place. Sometimes 4 or 5 times as long to write the test as to write the actual code. I'm curious if there are other developers in this kind of a scenario.
