• Finding .desktop files based on their titles?

  That's part 2 of a question asked earlier (to be able to give credit to the answers individually). When I type into the Dash applications show up with their title (also when hovering over the launcher), how can I find the associated desktop file. When I look into the usual suspect locations (/usr/share/applications and ~/.local/share/applications) with Nautilus I see the titles, but not the file names (not even in properties which sucks). When I look from the command line I see the file names but not the titles (a switch would be nice). How can I get a listing (a custom column?) that shows them next to each other?

  Is there a way to show and save all "final" definitions entered into a Scheme REPL into a text file? Say, if I have defined in the REPL: (define (increase x) (+ 1 x)) (define (multbytwo x) (* 3 x)) ; let us say this was an error (define (multbytwo x) (* 2 x)) I want to save this into an .scm-file with the content: (define (increase x) (+ 1 x)) (define (multbytwo x) (* 2 x)) i.e. the multbytwo function that got defined erraneously shall be "forgotten" due to re-definition. Is this possible?

• How to build list of items available in World of Warcraft?

  There are a number of non-Blizzard sites that show a complete list of available items in World of Warcraft (such as wowhead, etc). I would like to know the best (easiest) way to compile a similar list. I believe some sites are based on user-entered input, which I would like to avoid. Looking at the lua API, it seems that there are functions to get a list of items, but it's not clear if I can just download everything (I remember a reference to throttling somewhere, can't find it now). Does anyone have code samples that would do this, or links to source? Also, Eve Online has made a database of items available (and I do mean SQL database file for download, not the Armory) - is there anything similar for Wow? I'm just looking for the names and stats, not the graphic icons.

• Why do I have Unity and GNOME Classic running at the same time?

  I've recently updated and found that Unity shows on the gnome-classic/fallback desktop. Is this a new feature (which I doubt to be), or a bug? If it is a bug, tell me how to disable Unity because it interferes with the lower panel (i.e. I bring out Trash instead of showing the desktop when I try pressing the "Show desktop" button when the panel is not in focus). I don't encounter this problem in gnome-classic (No effects). Don't judge me. I like pokemon!

Website Name which show an image from logo class, like this: <div id="header"> <h1 class="logo"> <a href="#">Website Name</a> </h1> </div> and I also include <h1> on the contact page, help, etc and article page for example: <h1>Contact Us</h1> <h1>Name of the Article Title here</h1> On the homepage, it just has one <h1> for the logo Site Name... other pages have 2 <h1> tags

• SEO - Hidden content before main site content

  I have a two hidden divs before my main site content, one with the login form and another with the signup form. I then have login and signup buttons within the page that use JQuery to show or hide these divs. I like the effect this setup offers, dropping down from the top of the page and pushing the rest of the content down. However, recently I have been getting serious about SEO and I am wondering if these divs have been affecting my SERP rankings. Basically, every non-logged page (everything bots see) has the same two display:none; divs at the top of the document flow. Is it bad? Should I re-engineer these forms and the way they are displayed?

  I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on one of my systems and I am using Unity interface. Unity is working quite nice so far but i really miss panel applets for net speed, cpu temp, and system monitor. These applets show useful quickinfo. Unlike 10.10, there is no other way to get these infos onto the panel or unity launcher. There are solutions like screenlets and conky but they don't feel appropriate for a clean desktop look. If you know then please list out any third party indicators with links so that they can be found at one place.

  I've been using Blender for two days now, and ran into an issue while following a tutorial. Before anything else, I'd like to show you all what my problem precisely is. I would like to emphasize that this issue began to occur after I extruded that trapezoidal region (misstated as a parallelogram in the video). • Where can I find crash course in Java eclipse in Vancouver?

  I am not satisfied with what I learned in Java 101 in University. I feel like, lot of time is spent on trying to figure out how to write something in Java properly. I feel like, my lack of knowledge of Java and eclipse is slowing me down. I would like to pay for a detailed and intensive course in Java & Eclipse. I can read a book and read tutorials, but it seems harder to discipline myself. Where can I find such crash courses outside of university courses? I find lot of CS courses just show tip of the iceberg and not too much focused on actual application. I want to learn the latest industry skills and etc. I live in BC, Canada. I am thinking of BCIT, but not sure what they offer.

• Double X-screens on one monitor

  I have two monitors connected currently, my laptop display and an old dell monitor. For some reason one monitor (the dell) has double everything (it will make sense when you see the image). I think it came about when one day I tried using separate x-screen instead of just twin view for a specific reason I don't remember why (I was trying to get the Menu bar to show on my laptop monitor instead of the Dell I believe, it only shows up on the left-most monitor it seems) but anyhow I was wondering if anyone can help me fix this issue.   I am bit confusing about my goals although whole motivation thing is $$$ but still there is something pushing me to pursue higher studies(being frustrated from boot-licking attitudes of peers and lottery system here in India for promotions,pay hikes and onshore opportunities). I am afraid I do not have any goals.I am software developer mainly in JAVA, but an ECE graduate.I want to work in programming languages. My problem is that I am not even Jack of all trades.I have experience in programming and thats where I am good(self-pro-claimed or atleast people say this treating them as a critics). I have decided to go with the wind and applying for programming languages as my specialization.But I know how to code,write test cases,how Perosnal and commercial IT insurances solution works.What I do not know is how to show that what I will do during my masters.I have no idea about what to showcase, how would my work ex will help me. totally oblivious thoughts... thanks waiting for replies....

• Sending Mass Emails

  I have a massive list of users who registered for accounts and opted into a mailing list on my web site and I am interested in sending out a weekly newsletter. How should I go about doing this. I tried sending it out through my host server, but I received a notice stating that if I did it again they would kick me off the server. Are there any good companies that are designed for this type of thing? I need to find a company that will support this and show me some sort of report about how many emails get opened, deleted, opened then deleted, etc. Any recommendations?

• Attempting to install Ubuntu 11.10 along side Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Installer doesn't recognize an operating system present

  System Details: Asus Sabertooth 990FX motherboard AMD FX-8120 CPU 16 GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengance RAM (4x4) EVGA Nvidia GTX-560Ti video card 2x Dvd/cd rw dirves 1 Bluray RW drive 1 Orico USB 3.0 & eSata panel 1 Sabrent floppy bay card reader w/USB 2.0 port 760W pc power & cooling PS OCZ agility 120GB SSD (Windows 7 Professional 64bit installed in an approx 80gb partition, NTFS. There is also a "System Reserved" partition shown in disk management at 100mb in size, also NTFS) That leaves about 32GB usable free, un-partitioned space in which I hoped to install Ubuntu. However when I run the Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64 installer, it doesn't show there is even an operating system installed. It just shows the entire drive as free-unpartitioned space. Just not sure what to do here. I was thinking about using the Wubi installer, but i don't know about that. Is the performance reduction pretty drastic? Thanks,

• 12.10 nautilus on dell xps 12 does not work

  I have installed 12.10 on a new Dell XPS 12 ultrabook. Everything seems to work properly right now, including the touch screen, except for nautilus. The left pane works properly, I can select an item on the left and the contents will show up on the right, but when I go to do anything with the contents on the right nothing happens, I can't double click to open, I can't right click to bring up a menu. I can however hold down the left button and to draw a box to select more than one item, but I can't do anything with the selected items. I did not have these problems when I tried 12.04, but unfortunately the touchscreen does not work out of the box on 12.04 and 12.10 seemed to be the faster way go. Any ideas? How can I log what is happening when I try to do anything in nautilus?

• How to find 2D grid cells swept by a moving circle?

  I'm making a game based on a 2D grid, with some cells passable and some not. Dynamic objects can move continuously, independent of the grid, but need to collide with impassable cells. I wrote an algorithm to trace a ray against the grid, that gives me all cells that ray intersects. However, actual object are not point-sized; I'm currently representing them as circles. But I can't figure out an effective algorithm to trace a moving circle. Here's a picture of what I need: The numbers show in what order the circle collides with grid cells. Does anybody know the algorithm to find these collisions? Preferably in C#. Update The circle can be bigger than a single grid cell.

  SharePoint 2010 Training: more information Greetings! I will be speaking at NNUG Kristiansand tonight (sorry for the very short notice). So I was thinking what should I demo tonight?Hmm!!!Instead of using any slides or such material, what I thought would be a tonne of fun, would be to develop a service bus based application running in Azure. This will be a good opportunity to code and talk, and run into some snafus and show off some VS2012 improvements/annoyances. I have connected my ipod touch 32gb in my ubuntu 10.10 os.It's connected on os and shows in desktop. but it's not showing as a device in Rhythmbox music player. and also I can't open directly like folder or drive or usb device. when I try to open it show this Error: Could not display "gphoto2://[usb:001,003]/". • There was an error getting information about "/" while copying to desktop

  Currently running Ubuntu 13.10 after a fresh install/re install due to this problem. The error occurs whenever I try to drag a file from the Ubuntu search( in the launcher ), to the desktop. the whole error message is as follows... "Error while copying. There was an error getting information about “/”." Show more details reveals the following... "The specified location is not supported" I don't understand the problem and can't see any clear way of fixing it. Any and all advice would be appreciated. :)

• What causes this sonar sound on OS X?

  Both of my Macs play this sonar sound that sounds like "ping ping ping ping" with a small amount of delay / echo. It occurs to me that it is played once a day but I'm not sure why. I checked iCal but didn't found anything (I don't use iCal anyways but maybe it's connected to Google calendar or my iPhone). I've heard this sound played by both my MacBook and my iMac but not yet simultaneously. Update This sound is not submarine.aiff. It sounds much more like what skub linked to but there are 4 "pings" instead of 1. It is played at different times (today around 5pm and again at 8.45, but as far as remember not everyday). That's why I'm not sure I could record it, but I could try. The sound might come from my iPhone, though I'm not sure which apps are alowed to play sound when they are not running. Also I don't see any indication in the message center or something similar. I think I have to start taking notes on which apps running.

But when I use apache-ab to do a test, ab always show errors like this: ab -n 1 -c 1 http://127.0.0.1:1080/ apr_socket_recv: Connection reset by peer (104) I thought that I'm closing the socket too quickly, so I commented the close() function. But ab just hold, ab seems to be waiting for a complete response.

• Usb/vga not recognized anymore

  I don't know what happened, but yesterday everything worked fine, but when I woke up this morning and booted my computer to Ubuntu 14.04 a bunch of hardware isn't recognized anymore. I use a dual monitor setup with dvi-d and vga, but the vga screen isn't recognized anymore and the dvi-d monitor is recognized as "Built-in Display" while I'm not on a laptop. Also every device connected through usb isn't recognized anymore either. I have a keyboard with the blue round connector, which still works, so I can still log in though. The computer goes slower than usual and I have no idea what has happened. Can anybody point me in the direction I should start looking, because this is scary! I just checked and both the front and back sound connectors stopped working also :/ Edit: The devices connected through USB are recognized as they all show up using sudo lsusb, Ubuntu just doesn't let me use them anymore.
