• rails controller defaults to respond with application/xml in production

  I have a standard contacts_controller.rb with index action that responds as follows: respond_to do |format| format.html format.xml { render :xml => @contacts } end In development, it works as intended: when I browse to http://localhost:3000/contacts, I get an html response. But, when I start the app using capistrano on a remote Ubuntu server and browse to the same url, I get an xml response. If I go to http://remote_host:8000/contacts.html, then I see the html response. If I comment out the format.xml { render :xml => @contacts }, then I see the desired html response. Pretty sure I'm missing something subtle about difference between Rails development and production modes. Any ideas about what I'm overlooking? Thanks, - Dave

  I am trying to match the sub domain of an url using http://([a-z0-9]*.)?example.com/.* which works perfectly for these cases. http://example.com/index.html http://test.example.com/index.html http://test1.example.com/index.html http://www.example.com/122/index.html But the problem is it matches for this URL too. http://www.test.com/?q=http://example.com/index.html if an URL with another domain has the URL in path it matches.Can any one tell me how to match for current domain only. getting the host will work but i need to match full URL.

  I'm building an flex app that is basically a wrapper for a few websites. One of them is a google docs website, and I'm trying to get flex to allow downloads or popups or something that will allow me to do it. I've tried a whole bunch of solutions online and none of them have worked out.   I am trying to bind the dialog initiation (which happens in document ready) to a live or delegate for a div.   well, ofcourse its not working, im still a n00b :) this is the code that i have : Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule (.*)\.css - [S=7] RewriteRule (.*)\.jpg - [S=6] RewriteRule ^gallery gallery.html [L] RewriteRule (.*)/(.*)/ index.html?page=$2 [L] RewriteRule (.*)/(.*) index.html?page=$2 [L] RewriteRule (.*)/ index.html?page=$1 [L] RewriteRule (.*) index.html?page=$1 [L,QSA] Now, this works fine, if i try localhost/abc but it wont work if i try localhost/abc/ also, when i try localhost/abc/def (or localhost/abc/def/ for that matter) the css file isnt being included properly. i get an error saying /abc/def/style.css does not exist. :( however, the code doesnt work if i remove the QSA flag from the last rule. this is the code that ive come up with after a lot of googling and reading SO. if anyone can help out i'll be extremely grateful. thanks!

  In my javascript file I'm getting the content of a partial with the following call: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: value.href.replace(actionType, actionType + 'Partial'), dataType: "html", success: function(result) { $("#DepartmentsAction").html(result); alert(result); } }); Because the partial has the call Html.EnableClientValidation() the resulting html has a static script in it. In the result variable in the ajax call this script is present. In the page where the html gets inserted (#DepartmentsAction) the script has dissapeared. What am I doing wrong?

  Let's say I have a page, http://mydomain.com/mypage.html, with a "Back to page" link. This link should take the user back to the page where they came from only if the previous page URL matches one of the following: http://mydomain.com/one.html, http://mydomain.com/two.html, and http://mydomain.com/three.html. Otherwise, it would take the user back to the homepage, http://mydomain.com. I would like the "Back to page" link to also take the user back to the homepage when http://mydomain.com/mypage.html is pasted onto the browser. How can i accomplish this with Javascript. Thanks!

So I have created a method like following. public string HomeMetaTags() { System.Text.StringBuilder strMetaTag = new System.Text.StringBuilder(); strMetaTag.AppendFormat(@"<meta content='{0}' name='Keywords'/>","Home Action Keyword"); strMetaTag.AppendFormat(@"<meta content='{0}' name='Descption'/>", "Home Description Keyword"); return strMetaTag.ToString(); } Here you can see that I have written a method which will return a string with meta tags. Here you can write any logic you can fetch it from the database or you can even fetch it from xml based on key passed. For the demo purpose I have written that hardcoded. So it will create a meta tag string and will return it. Now I am going to store that meta tag in ViewBag just like we have a title tag. In this post I am going to use standard template so we have our title tag there in viewbag message. Same way I am going save meta tag like following in ViewBag. public ActionResult Index() { ViewBag.Message = "Welcome to ASP.NET MVC!"; ViewBag.MetaTag = HomeMetaTags(); return View(); } Here in the above code you can see that I have stored MetaTag ViewBag. Now as I am using standard ASP.NET MVC3 template so we have our we have out head element in Shared folder _layout.cshtml file. So to render meta tag I have modified the Head tag part of _layout.cshtml like following. <head> <title>@ViewBag.Title</title> <link href="@Url.Content("~/Content/Site.css")" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-1.5.1.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> @Html.Raw(ViewBag.MetaTag) </head> Here in the above code you can see I have use @Html.Raw method to embed meta tag in _layout.cshtml page. This HTML.Raw method will embed output to head tag section without encoding html. As we have already taken care of html tag in string function we don’t need the html encoding. Now it’s time to run application in browser. Now once you run your application in browser and click on view source you will find meta tag for home page as following. • ASP.NET MVC 3 Client-Side Validation Summary with jQuery Validation (Unobtrusive JavaScript)

  When we were working with ASP.NET MVC 2, we needed to write our own JavaScript to get Client-Side Validation Summary with jQuery Validation plugin. I am one of those unfortunate people still stuck with .NET Framework Runtime 2.0 and .NET Framework 3.5; meaning I am still on ASP.NET MVC 2. So I will still keep on supporting by answering any question you may have with my original code.   Long awaited ASP.NET MVC 3 has been released, and it supports Client Side Validation Summary with jQuery out-of-the-box with new features like Unobtrusive JavaScript.   1. _Layout.cshtml Template Notice that I am using Protocol Relative URLs ( i.e., '//'.  Not 'http://' or 'https://' ) to reference script files and css files and you should use it too like that! MVC View Template There are 3 things you *must* do exactly to get Client Side Validation Summary working. (1)  You must declare your Validation Summary **inside** the `Html.BeginForm()` block like below. (2)  You must pass `excludePropertyErrors: false` to the  Html.ValidationSummary()  method. @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.ValidationSummary(false, "Please fix these errors."); <!-- The rest of your View Template --> }   (3)  You have to put the following two elements in the `<appSettings />` block of your Web.config file. <add key="ClientValidationEnabled" value="true"/> <add key="UnobtrusiveJavaScriptEnabled" value="true"/>   That is all you need to do.  Simple, right? I will upload a sample project for download soon.  Please let me know if you run into some issues.     P.S: Without getting into too much technical details, I just wanted to let you know what I went through to get this to work. I had to look into the ASP.NET MVC 3 RTM Source Code and the jquery.validate.unobtrusive.js source. Initially, I thought I have to hack the jquery.validate.unobtrusive.js or something to get this to work. But after digging into MVC3 RTM source, I found out how to do it.

• User Produtivity Kit - Powerful Packages (Part 1)

  User Productivity Kit provides the ability to create a variety of content types including robust topics on system process and web pages with formatted text and graphics. There are times when you want to enhance content with media types not naively created by User Productivity Kit, media types such as video, custom animations, forms, and more. One method of doing this is to maintain these media files on a web server - separate from the User Productivity Kit player content and link to the files using absolute URLs such as http://myserver/overview.html. While this will get you going, you won't benefit from the content management capabilities of the UPK Developer. Features such as check-in / check-out, history, document properties, folder permissions and more are not available to this external content. Further, if you ever need to move that content to a server with a different name or domain, you'd need to update all your links. UPK version 3.1 introduced a new document type - the package. A package is a group of folders and files that you manage in the Developer library as a single document. These package documents work in the same manner as any other document in the library and you can use all of the collaborative content development features you see with other document types. Packages can be used for anything from single Word documents, PDF files, and graphics to more intricate sets of inter-related files commonly seen with HTML files and their graphics, style sheets, and JavaScript files. The structure of the files and folders within a package will always be preserved so this means that any relative links between files in the package will work. For example, an HTML file containing an image tag with a relative link to a graphic elsewhere in the same package will continue to function properly both when viewed in the Developer and when published to outputs such as the UPK Player. Once you start to use packages, you'll soon discover that there is a lot of existing content that can be re-purposed by placing it into UPK packages. Packages are easily created by selecting File...New...Package. Files can be added in a number of ways including the "Add Files" button, copy & paste from Windows Explorer, and drag & drop. To use one of the files in the package, just create a link to the file in the package you want to target. This is supported throughout the Developer in places such as section & topic concepts, frame links and hyperlinks in web pages. A little more challenging is determining how to structure packages in your library. As I mentioned earlier, a package can contain anything from a single file to dozens of files and folders. So what should you do? You could create a package for each file. You could create one package for all your files. But which one is right? Well, there's not a right and wrong answer to this question. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The right decision will be influenced by the package files themselves, the structure of the content in the library, the size and working style of the development team, how content is shared between different outlines and more. The first consideration can be assessed the quickest. If the content to be placed in the package is composed of multiple files and those files reference each other, they should be in the same package. There are loads of examples of this type of content. HTML files with graphics and style sheets, HTML files with embedded Flash movies, and Word documents saved as HTML are all examples where the content is composed of multiple files and the files reference each other in some way. Content like this should always be placed in a singe package such that these relative links between the files are preserved and play properly in the UPK Player.
