• Using Email Address to login - Membership API

  By default, Membership API uses a separate username field to login users. I would like to use the email address for users to login. Is this a good idea? How would I modify the Login, Register a user, Forgot password control to support this?

  Hi, I'm getting the error "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Error executing child request for ChartImg.axd" at runtime from my Chart control. I have read one solution to this error message as documented here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/MSWinWebChart/thread/1dc4b352-c9a5-49dc-8f35-9b176509faa1/ but this does not solve my problem. I have the Chart within a Repeater control, which is within an ajax UpdatePanel. When I take the chart out of the Repeater (but leave it in the UpdatePanel), it works. So I'm thinking it is to do with the Repeater. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  Hello guys; I have a conceptual question... I am making an Intranet application (Web platform) for a company. I have a SQL Server DB with these tables: Users (userID, userName, userPass, roleID) Roles (roleID, roleName) Pages (pageID, pageURL) RolesXPages(pageID, roleID) How is the best way to create a structure to store all this information while the user navigates the site, I mean, on the thread I should be able to check his role, his pages (the ones he can access) I have been reading and there is a lot of stuff there where Im confused, I saw the MembershipProvider, IPrincipal, IIdentity, etc classes but Im not sure what should be the best one for me. Any thoughts... Thanks in advance! Edit: Everytime gets more confusing... I just want to handle those structures at runtime and be able to mantain state during page callbacks or changing pages...

• ASP.net post and default page.

  Scenario: I have a regular aspx page with a form. When someone clicks a button the form submitted via post like normal. HOWEVER. The page where the form resides is the default page(Default.aspx). So when someone goes to the site: http://site.com/ and submits the forms he gets redirected to http://site.com/default.aspx. I tried setting the action of the form to http://site.com/. However asp.net does not allow to use root urls with a POST. So is there any workaround? Ajax is not an option.

  I have had some problems with authentication in ASP.NET. I'm not used most of the built in authentication in .NET. I gotten some complaints from users using Internet Explorer (any version - may affect other browsers as well) that the login process proceeds but when redirected they aren't authenticated and are bounced back to loginpage (pages that require authentication check if logged in and if not redirect back to loginpage). Can this be a cookie problem? Do I need to check if cookies are enabled by the user?   Hello, I thought that this was easier… I have a asp:hyperlink control, with target=”_blank”, pointing to the file I want the user to download. My plan is to track the number of times, the users click on this link. I thought in placing it in ajax update panel, to catch the postback and avoid full page refresh. However, hyperlink doesn’t have a onClick method. On the other hand I could use a linkbutton, which has a onClick built in. But It’s harder to make the file open in a new window… and I would also have to do something like: Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=myImage.jpg"); But I heard that the above approach has some problems with PPT, PPTX, PPS, PPSX… What is you'r opinion on this? How and why, would you do it?

• Use ASP.Net server control code generation from .ashx

  I'm trying to take an existing bunch of code that was previously on a full .aspx page, and do the same stuff in a .ashx handler. The code created an HtmlTable object, added rows and cells to those rows, then added that html table the .aspx's controls collection, then added it to a div that was already on the page. I am trying to keep the code in tact but instead of putting the control into a div, actually generate the html and I'll return that in a big chunk of text that can be called via AJAX client-side. HtmlTable errors out when I try to use the InnerHtml property (says it isn't supported), and when I try RenderControl, after making first a TextWriter and next an HtmlTextWriter object, I get the error that Page cannot be null. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions?

  Are there any similar frameworks like Sinatra, Ramaze etc in .NET? I'm in theory after a framework that let's me create an entire webapp with just one classfile (conceptually) like Sinatra. I'm going to use it for something work-internal, where ASP.NET MVC is too "big" (and I get confused by it's usage) and I have WebForms up to my ears right now (doing a big webforms based project, currently hating it ;) ) Any suggestions? Oh, and I need to be able to host it in IIS. I would go for IronRuby with Sinatra, but I can't find a step-by-step tut for setting it up in IIS ;)

  Howdy, I have what should be a simple question. I have a set of validations that use System.CompontentModel.DataAnnotations . I have some validations that are specific to certain view models, so I'm comfortable with having the validation code in the same file as my models (as in the default AccountModels.cs file that ships with MVC2). But I have some common validations that apply to several models as well (valid email address format for example). When I cut/paste that validation to the second model that needs it, of course I get a duplicate definition error because they're in the same namespace (projectName.Models). So I thought of removing the common validations to a separate class within the namespace, expecting that all of my view models would be able to access the validations from there. Unexpectedly, the validations are no longer accessible. I've verified that they are still in the same namespace, and they are all public. I wouldn't expect that I would have to have any specific reference to them (tried adding using statement for the same namespace, but that didn't resolve it, and via the add references dialog, a project can't reference itself (makes sense). So any idea why public validations that have simply been moved to another file in the same namespace aren't visible to my models? This may be due to absent or incorrectly specified EndpointIdentity in the EndpointAddress used to create the channel. Please verify the EndpointIdentity specified or implied by the EndpointAddress correctly identifies the remote endpoint. If I host the service on ASP .NET Dev server, it work well but if I host on IIS above mentioned error occurs. Thanks, Ram

Although i have left some blank fields in View. Also EnableClientValidation() is also applied in View for client side validation but its not working. what may be the problem

• How to retarget the scroll wheel in VB.Net?

  I have a form in VB.Net with Autoscroll enabled and several ComboBoxes within it. When I click on a ComboBox, I can use the mouse wheel to scroll through options, but I cannot deselect the ComboBox (by clicking off it on a blank portion of the parent form) in order to return to scrolling the parent form. This makes navigation in the form annoying, as I instinctively click off the control and flip the scroll wheel, causing the ComboBox to change selections instead of moving the parent form. Is there a way to make this work in the intuitive way I expect it to, or do I have some conceptual confusion that makes this the wrong question to ask?

• ASP.net Error in Design Mode

  I just switched to VS 2010, and upgraded a previous project. I'm getting the following error on a page in design mode for 2 controls: Error Creating Control - ObjectName Object reference not set to an instance of an object. One of them is a simple label, and the other is a ajax update panel. Other pages look fine. When I build and test the app, the page renders fine in the browser and functions fine - the label functions as expected and the content in the update panel works as expected. Any ideas why I'm getting this error? I tried some of the google results to no avail. It'd be great to get this out of the way. Thanks!

• DateTime from Javascript post to Controller in ASP.NET results in null (01/01/0001)

  This is driving me crazy, similar to this. If I use a standard form and no javascript the controller correctly binds the datetime. However when I'm posting from a form it always binds as null: "MyObject.Name": "Test name", "MyObject.Date": "5/1/2001" I've tried a couple of variations, 5-1-2001, etc. but cannot seem to get it to take. I can confirm that it is being passed to the server as it shows up in the Request.Form string. My culture is Gregorian and I've set: Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.InvariantCulture; In Application_BeginRequest(). What gives?
