How to start AJAX in Zend?

I am working on some projects as a developer(PHP,MySQL) in which AJAX and jQuery is already implemented. But now I want to learn implementation of AJAX and jQuery stuff. Can anyone tell me the exact steps with explanation? I have created a project in Zend. There is only one controller(IndexController) and two actions(a and b) in my project now. Now I want to use ajax in my project. But I don't know how to start. I read some tutorial but unable to completely understand. I have index.phtml like this: <a href='index/a'>Load info A</a> <br/> <a href='index/b'>Load info B</a> <br /> <div id=one>load first here<div> <div id=two>load second here</div> Here index is controller in links. a and b are actions. now I have four files like this: a1.phtml I am a1 a2.phtml I am a2 b1.phtml I am b1 b2.phtml I am b2 I think you have got my point. When user clicks first link (Load info A) then a1.phtml should be loaded into div one and a2.phtml should be loaded into div two When user clicks second link (Load info B) then b1.phtml should be loaded into div one and b2.phtml should be loaded into div two And someone tell me the purpose of JSON in this process and how to use this also? Highlight image borders with Ajax request.

First, some visualization of the code. I have the following images that are dynamically generated from jquery. Where imgId is the requested ID from the Ajax call. //Passes the IDs retrieved from Ajax, if the IDs exist on the page the animation is triggered. if ( $('#i' + imgId ).length ) { var pickimage = '#i' + imgId; var stop = false; function highlight(pickimage) { $(pickimage).animate({color: "yellow"}, 1000, function () { $(pickimage ).animate({color: "black"}, 1000, function () { if (!stop) highlight(pickimage); }); }); } // Start the loop highlight(pickimage); } It works great, even with multiple images. But I had originally used this with one image. The problem is I need an interrupt. Something like: $(img).click(function () { stop = true; }); There's two problems: 1.)This obviously stops all animations. I can't wrap my head around how I could write something that only stops the animation of the image that's clicked. 2.)The Ajax retrieves IDs, sometimes those IDs appear more than once every few minutes, which means it would repeat the animations on top of each other if the image exists. I could use some help figuring out how to detect if an animation is already running on an image, and do nothing if the animation is already triggered on an image.

Jqyery Bugs?? Long decimal number after two numbers multiply...

Hi all I am working on a shopping site and I am trying to calculate the subtotal of products. I got my price from a array and quantity from getJSON response array. Two of them multiply comes to my subtotal. I can change the quantity and it will comes out different subtotal. However,when I change the quantity to certain number, the final subtotal is like 259.99999999994 or some long decimal number. I use console.log to check the $price and $qty. Both of them are in the correct format ex..299.99 and 6 quantity.I have no idea what happen. I would appreciate it if someone can help me about it. HTML Form HIdden Fields added with Javascript not POSTing

I have a form where the user can enter a link, click the "add link" button, and that link is then(via jQuery) added to the form as a hidden field. The problem is it's not POSTing when I submit the form. It's really starting to confound me. The thing is that if I hardcode a hidden field into the form, it is posted, but my function isn't working for some reason. The hidden field DOES get added to my form as I can see with Firebug but it's just not being sent with the POST data. Just to note, I'm using an array in Javascript to hold the elements until the form is submitted which also posts them visibly for the user to see what they've added. I'm using [] notation on the "name" field of the element because I want the links to feed into an array in PHP. Here is the link creation which is being appended to my form: function make_hidden_element_tag(item_type, item_content, item_id) { return '<input type="hidden" name="' + item_type + '[]" id="hidden_link_' + item_id + '" value="' + item_content + '"/>'; Does anyone have an idea why this might not be posting. As stated above, any hard-coded tags that are nearly identical to the above works fine, it's just that this tag isn't working. Here is how I'm adding the tag to the form with jQUery: $('#link_td').append( make_hidden_element_tag('links', link, link_array.length - 1)); I'm using the Kohana 3 framework, although I'm not sure that has any bearing on this because it's not really doing anything from the time the HTML is added to the page and the submit button is pressed.

Storing arbitrary data in HTML

What is the best way to embed data in html elements for later use? As an example, let's say we have jQuery returning some JSON from the server, and we want to dump that datat out to the user as paragraphs. However, we want to be able to attach meta-data to these elements, so we can events for these later. Javascript: Uncaught exception: "too few args"

I think I must be making some really stupid mistake. Apply CSS style to anchor problem

Using jquery I have a clicking tab mechanism that are nothing but anchor tags that return false but call javascript functions to run some events on the page. The problem is I am using jquery to apply an opacity style to the active anchor. and the other sibling anchor get a lesser opacity view. My code looks like this $("#menutab li a").click(function(){ $(this).animate({opacity:'1'},1000); $(this).siblings().animate({opacity:'.25'},1000); } I would think this code would act only on the clicked element and apply that css style to that element and the other style to the other anchor tags except the clicked one. It kind of does that, but also what it does is leave the earlier clicked element to opacity =1, so if I click an element it sets it opacity to 1 and then if I click another one it sets it opacity to 1 while leave the earlier clicked one to 1 also instead of setting it to .25 like the others. Edit: I changed the above code to: $("#menutab ul li").click(function(){ $(this).children().animate({opacity:'1'},1000); $(this).siblings().children().animate({opacity:'.25'},1000); }); and now I get the desired effect, except that when the first anchor in the list is clicked doesn't follow the event rules, When the first one is clicked its as if, the click event is not triggered, because no opacity style changes. which I don't understand.

AJAX contact form in CodeIgniter

Few questions: I'm using CI and JQuery AJAX. In my code below, I assemble dataString, which by default, is appended to the URL as a query string. I've changed the AJAX "type" to POST, so my question is - how do I access dataString in my CI app? It would seem I still have to use $name=$this->input->post('name') Which to me, makes setting dataString redundant? -- I've tried searching but can't really find anything concrete. Would it be possible to still make use of CIs validation library and AJAX? if($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE) { // what can i return so that my CI app shows errors? } Normally you would reload the contact form or redirect the user. In an ideal world I would like the error messages to be shown to the user. Hi, I've been stuck with this problem where there are 3 steps in an asp wizard control. The first step has a radiobutton (yes and no) and based on the radio button input chosen by the user, i would need to hide or show a label in the second wizardstep. Example: Step 1: Choose 1 among the two options: Yes No (radStep1) Step 2: if the radiobutton option in the previous step was yes.. then display a label(lblStep2) in this step.. Else hide the label. I've been handling this through the jquery as i want the functionality in the aspx page itself... The jquery code goes like this... $("#<%=radStep1.ClientID %> input").click(function() { if($("#<%= radStep1.ClientID %> input").index(this) == 0) { $("#<%=lblStep2.ClientID %>").show(); } else if($("#<%= radStep1.ClientID %> input").index(this) == 1) { $("#<%=lblStep2.ClientID %>").hide(); } However, in both the cases, the label is getting displayed.. Does anchor href of an image make it download?

So I was using yslow for firefox and my page weight was way high. My page has a main product image and then maybe 10 thumbnails. If you click a thumbnail, the image opens up in a popup done through jquery. The problem is, yslow is listing even the targets of the thumbnails as part of the page weight, so I guess for some reason the images are downloading. For example, I have: <a class="group nyroModal" rel="lightbox-group" href="/upload/topview.jpg"> <img alt="thumbnail" src="/upload/thumb/t_topview.jpg" /> </a> Would this normal html cause the "upload/topview.jpg" to automatically download? Or is it the jquery plugin "nyroModal"? I'd rather the images didn't preload, that'd waste a lot of bandwidth. So my question is, does a browser automatically try to download image files that are in the href property of anchors, or is the plugin most likely causing this? Thanks for any direction you can give me.

Override absolute position on child container (modal window)

I have a modal window that is pulled from the server and inserted into a container that is absolute positioned. When that window is triggered to open, it does not display properly, it positions itself inside the container and most of it is hidden. Is there a specific css to be written for the container of the modal window (MyModalWindow). My code is as follows: <div style="position:relative;"> <div style="position: absolute;"> <div id="MyModalWindow"> </div> </div> </div> This is a jquery tools window and attaches the following style to MyModalWindow when it shows.: element.style { display:block; left:183.5px position:absolute; top:468.4px; z-index:9999; } I basically need the div to not be a child of the parent, since as jquery calculates it to be positioned at the center of the webpage no matter where the div is.

Hello, I was looking at the pagination script (posted below) and found it to be gros,s and not very good at all especially when trying to customize it. I am trying to put something like this on a separate page like count_page.php and then just include it. I guess my question is, if there is a better way of doing the above with better structure. A better way to go through the db and count the results and display the appropriate numbers. The above seems messy. Thanks for any help or suggestions on this.

POST XML to server, receive PDF

Similar to this question, we are developing a Web app where the client clicks a button to receive a PDF from the server. Right now we're using the .ajax() method with jQuery to POST the data the backend needs to generate the PDF (we're sending XML) when the button is pressed, and then the backend is generating the PDF entirely in-memory and sending it back as application/pdf in the HTTP response. One answer to that question requires the server-side save the PDF to disk so it can give back a URL for the client to GET. But I don't want the backend caching content at all. The other answer suggests the use of a jQuery plugin, but when you look at its code, it's actually generating a form element and then submitting the form. That method will not work for us since we are sending XML data in the body of the HTTP request. Is there a way to have the browser open up the PDF without caching the PDF server-side, and without requiring us to throw out our send-data-to-the-server-using-XML solution? (I'd like the browser to behave like it does when a form element is submitted -- a POST is made and then the browser looks at the Content-type header to determine what to do next, like load the PDF in the browser window, a la Safari)

How to make the value of one select box drive the options of a second select box

I want to make an HTML form with 2 select boxes. The selected option in the first select box should drive the options in the second select box. I would like to solve this dynamically on the client (using javascript or jQuery) rather than having to submit data to the server. For example, let's say I have the following Menu Categories and Menu Items: Sandwiches Turkey Ham Bacon Sides Mac 'n Cheese Mashed Potatoes Drinks Coca Cola Sprite Sweetwater 420 I would have two select boxes, named Menu Category and Items, respectively. When the user selects Sandwiches in the Menu Category box, the options in the Items box will only show Sandwich options. I'm stuck as how I might approach this. Once I filter out the 2nd list one time, how do I "find" the list options once I change my menu category in the 1st list? Also, if I'm thinking in SQL, I would have a key in the 1st box that would be used to link to the data in the 2nd box. However, I can't see where I have room for a "key" element in the 2nd box. How could this problem be solved with a combination of jQuery or plain javascript?

TinyMCE is glitchy/unusable in IE8

Is it possible to render PDF (fPDF) via a javascript?

So, I'm passing some values via jQuery to the server, which generates PDF garble. slideDown() Makes Everything in Wrapper Shift

Hello everyone, I am currently creating a simple menu where there are several names of services and a user can click on one and jQuery will show it's corresponding paragraph describing it below it. My jQuery code is fine and does exactly what I want, however, I have one bug I have yet to iron out. Whenever I click one of these headings and it's description displays, everything in the wrapper for the page shifts to the left about 7 pixels in Firefox, it does the same thing is Google Chrome however I have not measured the amout but I am sure it is irrelevant. Anyways, I am using the slideToggle() command to show the hidden parragraph. I assume this is occuring because when the slideDown occurs it is somehow changing the width of everything and the "margin: 0 auto;" setting for the wrapper rule in my css is compensating for this change. Does anyone have any way I can remedy this problem? I have tried several other fixes I've found around the internet but to no avail. Determine image src in onload and onerror event handlers in IE

How can I determine the image src of the image that triggered the event in the onload and onerror event handlers in IE? I thought jQuery was supposed to normalize the event object for IE so that it acted like other browsers? I've tried a number of permutations but haven't been able to get anything to work in IE8. Anyway if anyone has a suggestion on how to figure out the image src in the onload and onerror event handlers that works in IE I would really appreciate it. Or even how to figure out after the images have loaded which have loaded and which haven't (but not graphically - I need to generate an array containing the filenames of the images that didn't load). Including/Organzing HTML in large javascript project

Hi, I've a got a fairly large web app, with several mini applets on each page. These applets are almost always identical jquery apps. I am looking for advice on how I should organize/include smaller parts of these jquery apps within my larger project. For example, each app has several independent tabs. If possible, I would like to store each of the tabs as a seperate .html file because this makes development easier. My requirements are: 1) All of the html 'tabs' are loaded on the clients end when the page loads. I would like to avoid any delays by dynamically requesting the tab html. 2) If possible, I would like to minimize the raw data sent. For example, it would be preferable to send each tab 1 time, instead of sending each tab 10 times if there are ten applets on that page. Questions: 1) What are my options for 'including' the HTML files / javascript code 2) Any tips for keeping my development simple in this situation? Surely there has to be a better way than just editing one massive html file when working with large pages.
