Calculating angle between 2 vectors

I am working on some movement AI where there are no obstacles and movement is restricted to the XY plane. I am calculating 2 vectors: v - the direction of ship 1 w - the vector pointing from the position of ship 1 to ship 2 I am then calculating the angle between these two vectors using the standard formula: arccos( v . w / ( |v| |w| ) ) The problem I'm having is the nature of arccos only returning values between 0 and 180. This makes it impossible to determine whether I should turn left or right to face the other ship. Is there a better way to do this?

Why is ComboBoxText giving me a "no attribute" error?

I'm trying to add a text Combo Box into my app. I've created in and populated the list but when I I try to print out the active text I get an error. I tried RTFMing but came up short. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Subdomain Is Redirected and Causing an Error Because www. is Added

On my site, say example.com, if I try to access test.example.com, Firefox automatically adds www. to test.example.com, making it www.test.example.com, which causes an error. However, if I visit a site like my.ebay.com, no www. is added so no error occurs. What's going on? One nuance I didn't realize until now. If I try to access the site using test.example.com/, the www. is added. If however that trailing slash is not there, then I am sent to the subdomain properly.

E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 ? in Ubuntu

I am working with Ubuntu latest version. While installing via apt-get install i tried to abort that by pressing Ctrl+Z. It terminate successfully ;). But next time when i tried to use apt-get, i got some error "lock" and "temporally unavailable" something like that and **I unfortunately i delete the /var/lib/dkpg folder.** after that i cant install anything from apt-get, getting an error. E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 so how can i solve this issue?

Small font all 'new' messages suddenly in Gmail on Ubuntu in Opera, why?

This seemed to happen out of the blue. I have been using Opera for years. I can't find anywhere in Gmail to change the default font that is used in Opera. Ubuntu is Version 11 Opera is version 11.6 In Firefox the font is normal size. I have tried playing around with both all the browser setting I can find plus Ubuntu system settings (I had seen some mentions of Opera using the system default font sometimes) but no success so far. Really bumming as I have been using Opera for two years and if I can't resolve it I will not be able to use it. I can switch to Firefox but I don't want to.

Deleted Myself from Admin Group - Now Getting Error usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later

I have a laptop with Ubuntu 11.10 that is shared between myself and two other family members. My user id was setup as the only "Administrator" on the laptop. The other users were setup as "Standard" users. In my attempt to try to add myself to the user groups for the other users, I somehow deleted myself from the admin groups. I used the "usermod" command from the terminal. I must have neglected to include the proper switches or syntax for the update. It looks like I successfully added my userid to the group associated with my wife's account. When I use the "groups" command, I can see only my id and my wife's id in the list. I no longer see the "admin" or "adm" groups, and others that used to be listed. When I go into System Settings User Accounts it looks like my ID is now listed as a "Standard" user. I would like to change my account back to "Administrator", but now I can't. I did some searches for solutions and found that I would need to boot into Recovery Mode and execute the usermod command from the root session. I was able to successfully boot into Recovery Mode and get to the root session. I was trying to execute the command "usermod -a -G admin user1" to add my id (user1) back to the admin group. When I execute the command from the root session, I get the error message "usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later". I tried preceding the usermod command with "sudo", but it didn't make a difference, same error. I then tried adding a new user using adduser, thinking I would try to create a new userid and make the new userid part of the admin group. I get the same error using the adduser command. I saw some posts that recommend looking for and deleting files that end in ".lock" in the etc directory. The only file I found was .pwd.lock which I haven't touched. I am at a loss as to what to try next. I am relatively inexperienced with Ubuntu and Linux, so alot of this is new to me. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

C++ linkage error . What am I doing wrong ? [migrated]

So, this is the first time I actually separated a single program into a header and two .cpp files . But I think I am getting an linkage error . Heres how the directory looks . (heres a link to my image I dont have enough rep to post image in the question) http://i.stack.imgur.com/sbT4V.png The main.cpp is my main source file where all the calling functions and other important stuff goes . In functions.cpp I have all my functions , in the coordin.h file I have the function prototypes and structures and Constants . Everything is ok no typo nothing I have checked everything . But I am getting an undefined reference to function error. I have included the coordin.h file too . Do you think the functions.cpp file needs to go somewhere else I mean is the compiler not looking inside that file ? Thanks !

Trying to diagnose network problem: ping 127.0.0.1 (or any address) results in error code 1

NIC seems to be working, as windows detects the hardware and has a driver and reports success. DHCP seems to have gotten an ip address, 192.168.1.101. I released and renewed it and it seemed to work normally. I tried ping 127.0.0.1 as first step of testing network configuration. Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data: PING: transmit failed, error code 1. I read somewhere that net helpmsg [error code] would give a human readable name for the error code. net helpmsg 1 says "Incorrect function" I've tried disabling the firewall and antivirus in McAfee SecurityCenter and I still get the same error. Could the firewall/antivirus be breaking it even if disabled? Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2 is installed, and its network test passes all tests, including ping 192.168.1.1 which is the default gateway. If I try ping 192.168.1.1 from the command prompt I get the error code 1 again. So does anyone have any theories that would explain this problem? Other tests I should try? Thanks!

Where are incoming messages queued/stored when sendmail is communicating with a milter?

CentOS 5.x | SendMail I'd like to better understand how milter hand-offs work. We a remote MTA initiates an SMTP session, my understanding is that Sendmail hands the message data off to the milter during that session. Where/how is this message data stored? Is this all done in memory? Or is there a "queue" area where message data for milter is stored for pickup by the milter? If it helps, let's say I'm calling a milter like this: INPUT_MAIL_FILTER(`foo', `S=unix:/var/lib/foo/foo.sock, F=T, T=C:5m;S:3m;R:5m;E:5m')dnl

Are we queueing and serializing properly?

We process messages through a variety of services (one message will touch probably 9 services before it's done, each doing a specific IO-related function). Right now we have a combination of the worst-case (XML data contract serialization) and best-case (in-memory MSMQ) for performance. The nature of the message means that our serialized data ends up about 12-15 kilobytes, and we process about 4 million messages per week. Persistent messages in MSMQ were too slow for us, and as the data grows we are feeling the pressure from MSMQ's memory-mapped files. The server is at 16GB of memory usage and growing, just for queueing. Performance also suffers when the memory usage is high, as the machine starts swapping. We're already doing the MSMQ self-cleanup behavior. I feel like there's a part we're doing wrong here. I tried using RavenDB to persist the messages and just queueing an identifier, but the performance there was very slow (1000 messages per minute, at best). I'm not sure if that's a result of using the development version or what, but we definitely need a higher throughput[1]. The concept worked very well in theory but performance was not up to the task. The usage pattern has one service acting as a router, which does all reads. The other services will attach information based on their 3rd party hook, and forward back to the router. Most objects are touched 9-12 times, although about 10% are forced to loop around in this system for awhile until the 3rd parties respond appropriately. The services right now account for this and have appropriate sleeping behaviors, as we utilize the priority field of the message for this reason. So, my question, is what is an ideal stack for message passing between discrete-but-LAN'ed machines in a C#/Windows environment? I would normally start with BinaryFormatter instead of XML serialization, but that's a rabbit hole if a better way is to offload serialization to a document store. Hence, my question. [1]: The nature of our business means the sooner we process messages, the more money we make. We've empirically proven that processing a message later in the week means we are less likely to make that money. While performance of "1000 per minute" sounds plenty fast, we really need that number upwards of 10k/minute. Just because I'm giving numbers in messages per week doesn't mean we have a whole week to process those messages.

SQL Server 2008 R2 installation Error "Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller"

Im getting an error half way through an SQL Server 2008 r2 installation. The error states Not all privileges or groups referenced are assigned to the caller. it asks to retry or cancel. Upon trying both, the error message returns and I must cntrl-alt-delete to end the process. I have checked all permissions associated with local account, network domain account and ran installation as administrator. I have searched on the web and other people are having this problem too but I cant find a solution. so I turn to the experts, anyone encounter this error??

Why I am getting following error when trying to start SDK manager?

I have a 64 bit- 20 GB Ubuntu partition which has very less usable space. So I have put Eclipse in my Ubuntu and downloaded sdks to a folder in my another partition. So when I try to start sdk manager, I am getting the following error in my console: Unexpected exception 'Cannot run program "/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb": error=13, Permission denied' while attempting to get adb version from '/media/Data/android-sdks/platform-tools/adb' I have run chmod recursively on android-sdks directory. If I change the address for sdks to Ubuntu partition, sdk manager starts successfully. Is there anything I can do other than increasing the partition size? Thanks

WhatsApp & Tasker for Android – Read & Write messages

So, I finally gave up on all my previous the Microsoft Mobile/Phone OS devices and made my switch to Android this year. I am using my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with CyanogenMod 9.1.0 (http://get.cm/get/jenkins/7086/cm-9.1.0-n7000.zip) and ClockworkMod 6.0.1.2 (http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-n7000.zip) since August this year and I am so happy with the performance and the flexibility it offers me. As a software developer by profession, I would expect most of my gadget to be highly customizable and programmable (one time or at intervals) to suit my needs as close as it can. I was introduced to Automation for Android – Tasker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en) via reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/tasker) and the word ‘automation’ was enough for me to dive right into this app. Only automation that I did earlier was switching profiles depending on location on there phones. And now, just imagine a complete set of possibilities that can be automate on the phone or via the phone. I did my research and found a couple of other tools that do the same/as close as what Tasker can do and few of them are even free. There’s one even by Microsoft called on{X} (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.onx.app&hl=en). Microsoft’s on{X} really caught my eye. You can write code for your phone on the web application by them, deploy it on your phone and even trace the flow all using your PC. Really brilliant, I love the fact that it’s all JavaScript. Here comes the but, it is still very very young and it’s policy of accessing my News Feed on Facebook is not something that I can not digest. On{X} is good, but as I said earlier, the API is not very mature and hence, I gave up on it. I bought Tasker, the best 5,00 € I spent in ages and I want to talk about it in this post. I am still a “noob” while operating this tool, but I tried my shot at automating WhatsApp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.whatsapp&hl=en), a popular messenger for various platform. The requirement for the automation is that, if I send a WhatsApp ‘wru’ message to the phone, it should respond back giving the location and battery level of my phone. Reduce Multiple Errors logging in sysssislog

Need help. I am trying to automate error notifications to be sent in mailers. For that I am querying the sysssislog table. I have pasted an "Execute SQl task" on the package event handler "On error". For testing purpose, I am deliberately trying to load duplicate keys in a table which consists of a Primary key column(so as to get an error). But instead of having just one error, "Violation of primary key constraint", SSIS records 3 in the table. PFA the screenshot as well. How can i restrict the tool to log only one error and not multiple ??? Package Structure. Package ("On error Event handler") - DFT - Oledb Source - Oledb Destination SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Suppressing "extra ';'" error in GCC when -pedantic is on

Hi all, I'm building my program with -pedantic flag, which causes an extra ';' error (because of a third-party header using a few macros inconsistently; the error is not shown when -pedantic is off). I don't really feel like turning -pedantic off, and neither do I want to edit the header. Is there any way to suppress this exact error? Like a -Wno-annoying-semicolon-error compiler switch or something?

I have the C# Dll (ABService) deployed in COM + and my os Is windows 2008. I have given the strong name for this dll and its dependent dll’s When I access the method of this dll through localhost or if I add the reference to the client project the method are executed successfully. Simply if I access the dll from the same machine with the reference it is working. So I think there is no problem with the way I deployed in the COM +. node.js and jsdom - no way to detect that an http 500 error was returned?

I'm using jsdom with node.js and I'm trying to get it to provide me with some indication that an http error has occurred. I've set up a test server that simply returns an http 500 header for all requests, but when I attempt to load it with jsdom, jsdom doesn't throw any error and doesn't seem to provide me with any information that would identify that an http 500 error was returned. What's the best way to detect an http 500 error?

Is there a way to bypass the jQuery error handler?

If my Ajax call returns a successful result, but while processing the result I cause an exception, the error handler fires. This seems counter intuitive to me as I think the error handler should only fire when an error occurs as a result of making the Ajax call or via a server-side error. I am trying to use the Ajax function in a unit test so I would like to tell the difference between the two different failure scenarios.
